SEC market design MIXED USE PLANNING

conceptual representation I began the ceiling plan with a literal application of the conceptual drawings as soffits on the ceiling. Below is the simplified fished product.

The overlap and stepped heights derived from the concept serve as tools for way finding in the market ceiling design.

periscope design

conceptual representation The focal point of this design is a staircase that is designed to link the marketing and design departments with a common ground mezzanine in between floors.

The stair functions as both the literal and metaphorical link between the departments of this company.

conceptual process This design is inspired by my series of photographs depicting the overlap of man made and natural on the project site in Seattle. To illustrate the concept I looked at depictions of asymmetry, overlap and growth.

las cositas

conceptual process A series of light box images illustrating design terms derived from the song bring the abstract inspiration of the song Diablo Rojo into physical form. These images convey fusion, vibrance, and dynamism. From those light box images, a series of conceptual sketches based on the elements and principals of design further simplify the inspiration from Diablo Rojo.

conceptual representation The conceptual illustration is used in this instance as a tool for space planning. The three sections created by the intersecting lines worked well to divide the uses of the space.

This conceptual diagram influenced the placement of walls and soffits in the final floor plan.

casa batllo door details Gaudi’s design’s are known for his amazing attention to detail. Door handles and drawer pulls are molded to fit the human hand. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to experience these details in person.

casa batllo - stair detail The way Gaudi molds a spaces is an inspiration to me as a designer. Casa Batllo looks to be modeled after a dragon and every detail is highly conceptual. The organic curves of the walls in Casa Batllo looked like the skin of a living thing and the carved wood of the grand stair case curved like a spinal cord winding up through the center of the townhouse.
