PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE TECHNICAL DESIGN

COMMERCIAL OFFICE INTERIORS SEPTEMBER 2014 - PRESENT As a design lead for a busy Move, Add, Change team I specialize in taking the client’s test fit from idea to install drawing in 48 hours. One of my favorite parts of this role is producing renderings that help communicate design to the client. Recently, I have been more involved in specifying a variety of furniture for clients outside the Move, Add Change business. The specification process includes producing proposal drawings, bills of materials with finishes, and install drawing sets.

WORKPLACE CONSULTING BUILDINGi OCTOBER 2011 - SEPTEMBER 2014

As a workplace consultant I supported design strategists in the facilities department of Microsoft and Starbucks Corporate. Responsibilities included project progress reporting, product research, presentation design, survey data compilation, space type development and quarterly design guideline updates.

GRAPHIC AND UX DESIGN BUILDINGi OCTOBER 2011 - SEPTEMBER 2014

Employing a user-centered design process, I worked with clients to write user stories that inform our team’s design decisions. I then collaborated with information architects and developers to take the design from wire frames to pixel perfect comps. I have extensive experience working with Microsoft’s visual identity guidelines and love an opportunity to develop a brand from scratch.

MODULAR EXAM ROOM MOCK-UP

This modular Beyond Wall exam room features panels field modified to have running water. The mock-up was designed for testing acoustics and durability of finishes. As the drawing shows, both painted steel and laminate panel tiles have been specified. The clinic’s facilities team will test how these materials perform against standard cleaning products. DESIGN GUIDELINE FACILITATION QUARTERLY CYCLE As Design Guideline Facilitator for Microsoft Real Estate and Facilities my role was to update and maintain the guidelines on a quarterly basis. I also served as a resource for new vendors.

STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT The facilitator sends a call for updates to stakeholders of programs such as design strategy, construction management and AV. Stakeholders then have the option to send changes via email or meet with the facilitator to review guideline documents.

INCORPORATION AND PUBLICATION

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR REVIEW

Approved guidelines are published on the intranet site to be made available to vendors. The facilitator then drafts an email newsletter sent to vendors and stakeholder to communicate the change.

The facilitator updates all guideline documents and prepares a roll-up for ease of review.

In addition to this quarterly email, the facilitator is a resource for questions about the design guidelines and holds a monthly WebEx training to on-board new vendors.

SUBMISSION TO THE REVIEW COMMITTEE A summary of changes is emailed to the committee lead prior to the review committee meeting. The facilitator’s role is to then assist with gathering any additional information from stakeholders.

GRAPHIC AND UX DESIGN

RESPONSIVE DESIGN WIRE FRAMES

During the Microsoft Fargo campus site upgrade my role was to create wire frames to show how the existing layout could flex to be more friendly to mobile devices. Tools Photoshop

UX CHALLENGE

Improve the checkout process for a given persona. Dave works for an Internet company in South Lake Union. He makes good money, but is down to earth. Dave sometimes works long hours and likes to make the most of free time. He can frequently be found checking out the newest restaurant, watching the next blockbuster or sitting on the couch with an Xbox controller. He likes DIY: brews his own beer, builds his own computer and spends hours configuring his iPhone.
