SPRING INTERSESSION Each Fall and Spring break, we host a four day intersession. This time is used to work on specific skills needed to help each student be more successful in the classroom. For the Spring Intersession, we invited 120 students with letters being mailed to parents detailing the criteria for the invitation. Since the development of new state standards and the increase in rigor of the TCAP assessment, the state identified student’s percent chance of scoring proficient on this year’s TCAP assessment. We invited those students who were identified as having a 70% chance or less of reaching that goal. The skills for these students were identified from the last MAP assessment given in the winter and is based on their specific achievement levels. Each day more than 50 students attended intersession. It was a positive and productive experience. These students attended classes in reading, math, and goal setting with teachers worked in teams of two and with small groups of students to help them prepare for the final quarter of the year.

ANNUAL 8TH GRADE PLAY: WHO KILLED ELVIS? Lots of 8th grade students have been learning lines and staying after school to practice for this year’s humorous play, Who Killed Elvis? Play Synopsis: When the Verelli family holds an Elvis impersonation contest for their newly renamed business, the "Elvis Ate Here" Inn, a host of star-struck Elvis fanatics shows up with the media in tow. The Verellis get more than they bargained for when thieves show up in disguise and suspicious thugs wander in, followed by a group of high school students who desperately need to win the prize money for prom. Add to the mix a fortuneteller who mysteriously predicts "death to the king," a troupe of ogling Elvis fans and a banker intent on foreclosing, and it's general Elvis hysteria! Order up for one "Heartbreak Hoagie," some "Love Me Chicken Tenders" and an "All Shook Up Shake," but who asked for two murders?! Crack cop Betty and her partner Bernice try to apply a strong-arm approach to their investigation with aid from Chief Ralph. Meanwhile, Madame Laski conducts a séance to contact the real Elvis, who speaks through his impersonators to reveal some cryptic clues using titles of his many songs. This madcap mystery-comedy offers a simple set and plenty of hilarious opportunities to show your own Elvis fervor!
