Folding
Cory Fernandez Aggregated Assemblies Reading Assignment 2
Marble Fairbanks completed this project for a MoMa Exhibition. The wall is comprised of two sheet metal panels that have a series of perforations. The perforations areas are folded then folded in order to connect the two panels together for both structural stability and an interesting pattern. The project was based around digital fabrication and cnc milling in order to create the perfectly milled panels for the exhibition

Sectioning
Cory Fernandez Aggregated Assemblies Reading Assignment 2
This project emphasizes sectioning in this doubly curved topographic form. Reiser and Umemoto felt that the best way to acheive this type of form was to section in into a series of truss ribs. Digital media is very effective for this type of design strategy. The diagram to the right shows a few simple steps in Rhinoceros in which a topographic surface can be sectioned into ribs quite conveniently.

Contouring
Cory Fernandez Aggregated Assemblies Reading Assignment 2
These projects by Aranda/Lasch emphasize design by contouring. In these examples material is removed in successive layers with cnc milling. The relief carvings are so precise and match the architects design to a degree unprecedented before the use of digital design and fabrication techniques

Tessalating
Cory Fernandez Aggregated Assemblies Reading Assignment 2
This building in Dubai emphasis design using tessalating strategies. The facade is broken up into a pattern that is an abstracted, diamond shaped tessalated grid. The accuracy needed during the construction process could only have been acheived with digital media. Foam blocks milled from cnc machines served as templates for building construction.
