Have you ever wondered what purpose our dreams serve, what they’re about and why they occur? Are you curious as to how the sub/unconscious part of the mind plays a vital role in how we process lovers while we sleep?

12

Dreams & Their Meanings by: Loralee Venna

Experts of scientific interpretation of dreams and translation analysis explain how the subconscious and the potential to protect and/ or cure disease, accidents, mental illness and even physical disease. Content that exists in the brain is known to be harmful and aggressive. If uneducated on dreams and their subject matter, this causes decay, and corrupts the mind. While we sleep our primitive consciousness produces our dreams. Transmitters are sent by the sub/unconsciousness that acts similarly to psychotherapy. Dreams are extremely informative. Love, for example, has such an important impact in our lives. Isn’t it interesting how we tend to unknowingly, and habitually, neglect automatic assessments we make while we sleep? Our dreams purposes are to guide and protect us by analyzing, processing and distributing messages containing traits, and knowledge about our lovers or interest.

Here is a list of the top 5 dreams and their meanings:

Being Chased:

This is interpreted to mean you are running away from or trying to hide from something your psyche possibly needs to face. It could be a feeling or conflict you are avoiding and do not want to deal with - even a memory you would rather forget. On the other hand, it could also be a positive thing or situation you are avoiding or running from! A talent perhaps or feelings you’re unwilling to admit.

Falling:

This is known by experts to be a sign of being out of control. According to curiousdreamer.com, these dreams signify a loss of control as well as a “sudden lack of foundation” in your current life.

Lost and/or Unprepared:

Life changes that occur on a daily or recurring basis are known to cause high levels of stress. “If you feel unprepared for changes coming to your waking life, then prepare yourself for dreams furnished with impenetrable school lockers, locked doors, and labyrinthine buildings”, said curiousdreamer.

com. Experiencing a dream of being tardy represents fear of going for a possible opportunity and/or change. Maybe there are harbored feelings of lacking selfworth or credentials regarding this particular fear. Dreams associated with being at school often mean you are experiencing insecurity about your social status, your abilities, or performance in a situation.

Public Exposure:

This can indicate fear of possible exposure, in any context. Are you hiding something? Studies by numerous experts have also proven to acknowledge dreams of being naked as “revealing the real you”.

Missing Teeth:

One source, smartgirl.org, suggests that “In general, dreams about losing teeth are common and suggest the dreamer feels powerless or out of control in a real life situation.” According to dreamsdictionary.org, “It could just be time to see a dentist . “

MATCH M A KER We caught up with Joann Cohen, who is THE Phoenix Matchmaker and Dating Coach, to find out about Matchmaking and if dating is really tougher in Phoenix. Joann loves what she does and is very good at it. She has been featured on TLC, USAToday, Arizona Republic, ABC News, Phoenix Magazine, and is frequently sought out by national and local media for her clear, straightforward and practical advice about relationships and love.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A MATCHMAKER?

I had been ‘dating coaching’ for years and people were demanding that I go into the matchmaking business. As a Dating Coach, it seemed like the logical next step as I was getting men and women ready for their matches. So I decided to introduce them. I have loved it!

IS YOUR BUSINESS LIKE THE “MILLIONAIRE MATCHMAKER”? The Millionaire Matchmaker is probably taking clients she wouldn’t normally take because they make good TV. I am respectful to the clients and women I work with. We laugh a lot but with - not at each other. I also meet with each woman individually to get to know all about her before she meets with a client. Some matchmakers like the Millionaire Matchmaker take both male and female clients that they match. My business only has 14

male clients and women are matched for free. That allows me to have access to hundreds of women so my clients meet their best matches.

HOW DO YOU FIND POTENTIAL WOMEN FOR YOUR CLIENTS?

I find them everywhere. I’m doing the exploring my men don’t have time for. I will talk to any woman at gyms, stores, networking events, social gatherings and everywhere. A good percentage of my women are referred by friends who met their match through me. Along with the media attention and my social networking, I am blessed to have so many exceptional women I can introduce to my clients. They’re attractive, fit, smart and feminine. I meet amazing women every day - I have the man’s dream job!

WHY ARE MEN HIRING YOU AS

A MATCHMAKER? WHY CAN’T THEY FIND SOMEONE ON THEIR OWN?

Usually the men have become fatigued by dating. While they can easily get dates, they aren’t finding the exceptional women who have all the qualities to make a relationship work - and they’re busy. My clients are successful and goal driven, have achieved their goals and now they want to have that healthy relationship that makes their lives complete. I do all the searching and screening to find the right woman who is their perfect match.

WHAT ARE MEN REALLY LOOKING FOR?

Of course men want women who are attractive. But men also want someone who is

“I MEET AMAZING WOMEN EVERY DAY - I HAVE THE MAN’S DREAM JOB!”

feminine, sane, drama free and appreciative - appreciative of the little and big things that the man does to make her happy and appreciates that he’s her man.

PHOENIX HAS A REPUTATION FOR BEING A HARD PLACE TO DATE. DO YOU AGREE? Yes and no. There are a lot of attractive people here and some are into their appearances and demonstrating their worth through material objects. So often, people go to places that have more of that type of person and think that’s Phoenix. But it isn’t. We’ve got attractive, sane and relationship-minded people who aren’t looking for a wallet or arm candy. If you’re not meeting the kind of people you want to meet - then try something different. And also make sure you’re not judging people by the price of their cars or size of their breast implants.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR SINGLES TO FIND LOVE?

Make sure you are really ready for love. Many want love but aren’t willing to make the changes that are necessary to have it. If people are bitter and negative towards the opposite sex, it shows and the relationship-minded, positive people who they want to attract stay away from them. You have to try to be the type of person you’re trying to attract. Perhaps the most difficult thing about finding love is to keep the walls down and your heart open.

TO LEARN MORE ABOUT JOANN: www.joanncohen.com Share the love. Tell your friends to call Joann when they’re finally ready to meet their match! Office Hours: Monday - Friday 11:30-6:30 480-620-1463

Cares MAINSTREAM

Becoming A Friend by Danell Lynn

It began with a little boy in 1984

and providing a grant for him to have music lessons; from there it has growth with laughter and joy in providing childhood back into foster children’s lives. From dance lessons, to tutoring, baseball equipment to karate lessons, creating grants to award the safety of childhood for these young lives. The mission is dedication to promoting self-esteem and enriching the lives of Arizona’s children in foster care by funding activities, education and other needs that provide them with quality experiences while they live through very difficult circumstances. “Each day, more than 30 children come into the foster care in Arizona. They’ve

been neglected or physically, sexually or emotionally abused by the very people they should have been able to depend on to keep them safe. Most children come into foster care with little more than the clothes on their back. They’ve never ridden a bicycle or sat down for a family meal. They’re most likely behind in their development, and if they’re school age, behind in school. The Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation provides these ‘something extras’ for children in foster care. Over the past 30 years, we have awarded more than $3,500,000 to more than 23,000 children in foster care in Arizona.” Just like the grants they provide, AFFFCF is creative in the grassroots way you can support children: conducting book drives or pledging your birthday are two that stood out. Conduct a book drive for the VNSA book sale by collecting paperback books, hardbacks, DVD’s, CD’s, videos, tapes, maps, jigsaw puzzles and more! Tired of getting unnecessary trinkets for your birthday? Ask for a pledge instead. Give yourself the best gift and create a life changing experience for children in need by receiving presents on your special day as donations in your name for AFFCF. No more unwrapping surprise “stuff”.

With more than 14,000 children currently in foster care in Arizona learn how you can become a friend to the foster children in our state. Provide a summer memory today! www.affcf.org

BELL’S Brigade The D-Backs and Heath Bell caught our attention with a wonderful charity they call Bell’s Brigade. This is where Heath and the D-Backs invite kids from the Miracle League on the field pre-game to visit with Heath and some of the other players. Heath was awesome! He was giving out T-shirts and signed baseballs left and right. We watched as no kid left disappointed. He made it a point to go back and grab more shirts and baseballs because he noticed there were still a few empty hands. These kids are amazing and their smiles alone attracted other D-Back players to come join in the fun and interact with the kids. At one moment we even saw Martin Prado teaching a little girl to dance while Gerado Parra was cracking up with the other kids watching the dance audition. We had a chance to chat in the dug-out before the game and interview the dominating D-Backs closer Health Bell. The first thing we asked Heath was why he did this? He said he loves giving back to kids, but this is special to his heart because his daughter has down syndrome. It caught him off guard when she was born because he didn’t know much about it at the time. Heath takes great pride in his little girl and talked her up the whole time. He has definitely embraced the role of being a parent to a child with down syndrome. He has a great conversation before every game with his daughter and she always asks him what he’s doing. He laughs and says “I’m getting ready for work, I’m going to go play some baseball”. He encourages the parents of special needs children to get them out to the ball park or anything outdoors for that matter. So we had to ask Heath a few off topic questions… MAINSTREAM: Do you have any superstitions like most of these other baseball players? HEATH: I don’t have too many, but I do jump on the foul line when I’m not closing just to be funny. I also wear the same hat because my dad was a Marine and he grew up with very little essentials, so it’s a way of showing he doesn’t need new things all the time. MAINSTREAM: Any health tips? HEATH:Yeah, I just took that food allergy test and was fascinated with the results. I was eating things this whole time not knowing it wasn’t agreeing with my body. Once I applied the new diet recommended after the test I’ve felt amazing! Go get that allergy test! It’s called Alcat. MAINSTREAM: Any favorite restaurants in town here?

20

HEATH: Yeah, it’s called Oink Cafe in Phoenix. It’s a modern, comfortable cafe specializing in 5 kinds of bacon! We would like to thank the D-Backs organization for having us and Heath for being a role model on and off the field. Be sure to come out and support our team.

Meet Rebecca, CEO and Designer of Born4Bikinis….. Written by Shannon Campbell The company began in April of 2009 and has only grown since. After relocating to Scottsdale to become more established, Rebecca realized she loved every part of the fashion industry. Rebecca began her experience by learning to sew, and accessorizing her own suits, then began collaborating with local boutiques. She started out as a bikini model in Las Vegas. She has always had an eye for fashion and desire to be a designer. Instead of modeling swimsuits, she thought why not make them! “Always wear with confidence,” is the logo that adorns every Born4Bikinis swimsuit that Rebecca makes. She wants females to feel great wearing one of her garments and stand out among the rest. Rebecca is inspired by the places she has lived most recently, Las Vegas and Scottsdale, and finds ways to represent the two cities in her suits. The mission of Born4Bikinis is to make every woman feel sexy and confident in her own skin! Her suits are available at Triangles, and Clothes Minded Boutique. She also takes appointments for making custom made swimsuits. If you are interested in checking out more about her, and her contact info please visit www.born4bikins.com. You will be hearing a lot more about this brand in the future! Oh wait, our cover model is wearing a custom suit designed by Rebecca! We also have a few other pages dedicated to her amazing designs, see for yourself!

BODY SHOTS Body Shots Tequila™ is 100% Blue Weber Agave silver tequila. The agave is harvested in the highlands of Jalisco. While the bottle itself is basic, the label is not. The first thing you see when looking at the label is the silhouette of a shapely female wrapping around the bottle. When placing three bottles next to each other the female silhouette can be seen in all her glory. To enhance the effect, we created an acrylic illuminated display box. Three bottles are put in place, the display then cycles through 7 different colors, and viola…. our girl comes alive! As the name implies, Body Shots Tequila™ plays upon the age-old interactive, party activity known as the “body shot”. Not a big fan of salt and lime, I wanted to create an alternative. Be introduced to Body Candy™. Body Candy™ is proprietary cinnamon vanilla based syrup. The Body Candy™ combined with the tequila and an orange slice has created an entirely new way to take a shot, whether it be off a body part or just straight up. It is proving to be quite popular. We have seen incredible exposure even prior to our launch. We have twice been a part of the Back Stage Artist Lounge. This is where the brand is made 30

available to musicians, staff, and promoters. Some of the bands at these events were Rob Zombie, Stained, and Buck Cherry among others. We were also part of the Black Entertainment Television after hour’s party in Hollywood. The future looks bright for Body Shots Tequila™ and Body Candy™ . While only being launched at the end of May 2013, the brand has seen incredible interest. Within the first 6 months, we will push the Arizona market following up in California and Nevada….(Can you say “Body Shots” at the typical pool bar in Las Vegas?!) We intend to have the brand fully launched nationally within the next year. We bring the party to you... along with the Body Shots Tequila™ promo girls. We now have a standup game that can go into the bar or even a private party. Of course some of the locations for a body shot has been given names….. How about “Vamp me”, or “Over the Hills and Far Away”, or maybe “Lickety Split”? There are also phone apps out for the interactive game as well. We have created a t-shirt line as well. -brian@bodyshotstequila.com, Cell: (480) 227 3695 31

The Staff at Mainstream magazine meets people from all walks of life. Sometimes we meet people who stand out from the rest. They live a unique life; a life that we feel is interesting. We find ourselves asking ourselves, how did they do it? This issue we feature Heather Nance. Read on to find out about her fascinating, and extraordinary life.

MAINSTREAM: Welcome Heather, thanks for joining us. We find what you do, belly dancing, sword dancing and fire breathing truly unique, how did you get started? HEATHER: I have always had an interest in belly dancing…I finally worked up the courage to find a studio and start taking classes. I found a cute little studio in Tempe called The Mystic Jewel and that’s where it all started. The studio is now called Plaza de Anaya and it’s still an amazing place to dance and meet people. I started in Beginning and took every class I could afford. I loved it and met so many amazing people in the process. The belly dance community is a pretty close one, most dancers in the valley know each other. It was at the studio where I met people and went to functions and parties. One night I saw these people doing some crazy dance stuff with fire. It was then I became obsessed with fire props and learned everything I could from every fire performer I could find that would teach me. I practiced every spare moment I had…I loved it. I was dancing and doing fire for a few years… started dancing with a troupe called Indigo Fire and then also Samadhi Collective. I am solely dancing with Samadhi now and we do shows with a combination of belly dance and fire. Currently I perform Fire Poi, Fire Staff, Fire Eating, Fire Fans and Fire Sword.

doing. There was one time I was burned badly (3rd degree at least) and that was because I was careless with fire safety and did not use the right fuel. That was completely my fault and I knew better. Note to self…don’t spin fire and drink.

MAINSTREAM: How long until you did your first show? HEATHER: Well when we took classes at the studio (Plaza De Anaya) they encouraged us to take part in the quarterly student recitals. I was reluctant and shy but I did…and it helped me get used to dancing onstage in front of people. I am so glad I did it. I was dancing for a few years before I did my first show outside of the studio. About my third year dancing I started dancing with a troupe and have since.

MAINSTREAM: Tell us something about you that no one else knows. HEATHER: OK…if you see me walking…or doing fire or belly dancing while balancing a sword on my head, you would probably never guess I am a complete klutz. Always have been…I am so clumsy.

MAINSTREAM: Have you ever been burned? HEATHER: Oh yes…I have several times, pretty much every time I light up, it’s just part of it sometimes. It depends on the trick I’m

MAINSTREAM: Where are you from? HEATHER: I’ve been an AZ native all my life. MAINSTREAM: What was your dream to be as a child? HEATHER: I always wanted to be a Veterinarian….and then I realized I couldn’t handle having to put an animal down or see suffering animals all day. Too sad. MAINSTREAM: What were you like growing up as a kid? HEATHER: I was totally awkward and didn’t fit into any of the groups at school. I hung out with the stoners but I wasn’t one. I was a tomboy. I loved muscle cars and heavy metal, tattoos and piercings. So, not a lot has changed. MAINSTREAM: Men or Cars? HEATHER: I enjoy things that kick ass, both in my cars and guy.

MAINSTREAM: Do you own a dog and if so do you speak with it? HEATHER: Yes…his name is Scrappy. He’s a Pomeranian and yes, I talk to him all the time and he talks back. MAINSTREAM: Where can we see more of you? HEATHER: www.youtube.com/FireGypsyschannel

The

Healthy Alternative

By: Matthew Lenzi

You are driving down the road and get hungry. What do you go for? Every fast food chain has a naughty list of reasons why I would tell you to go elsewhere! You can find fast food drive-throughs on every corner but you can also find a Fry’s, Safeway, Walmart, Target, Sam’s Club or many other food markets nearly every mile or so. Get out of your car and take just a few steps to walk into the store and grab a bag of carrots and celery . Fill up on something healthy instead of that burrito you got just because it can be purchased at a drive-thru window. There are plenty of healthy reasons to get out of the car besides the calorie counting: 1. Eggplant peels can fight against cancer as well as the aging of skin. 2. Tomatoes can help lower risk of getting cancer 3. Broccoli can protect against cancer. 4. Cucumbers reduce constipation. 5. Onions lower blood pressure. 6. Carrots help the body maintain connective tissue, teeth, and gums. 7. Cauliflower is an excellent source of Vitamin C. 8. Yams help maintain night vision. 9. Artichokes are a great source of fiber. People are now advised to eat five to possibly six times per day in small doses. But why? This is because when 6-8 hours pass after a meal, the body starts to turn the next few items eaten into fat cells as the body’s metabolism changes. By having a yogurt, cottage cheese or a healthy shake as a meal between meals, you will help your body maintain its metabolism, have more energy throughout the day, and stay healthier overall. For the quicker option on shakes, I recommend going to your local Nutrishop supplement store and getting a meal replacement shake from them. For those wishing to have an all natural substitution, try: 1 can crushed pineapple, 1 banana, 1 container of yogurt, and a cup of ice cubes mixed together. For more health and fitness tips, visit me on facebook: www.facebook.com/matthewthefrenzilenzi

WORKOUT: THE ULTIMATE BICEPS Guys, obviously this one is for you! It’s summer and what do you want to use to impress the girls? Abs and Arms! I have done this usually once a year for the last couple of years and it has always been helpful for tightening up my biceps as well as increasing strength within only FOUR weeks! For the next four weeks of your training, try to add curling the easy curl bar into the beginning of your workout three times per week. To get this started you will need to find out your maximum one rep capability. After finding out that number I want you to calculate what 50% and on up in 5% increments will be. Since you will be doing sets with 55 or 65% of your max at times this will be necessary.

WEEK 1: DAY 1: 50% - 3 sets of 6 reps 55% - 3 sets of 5 reps 60% - 2 sets of 4 reps 65% - 2 sets of 3 reps 70% - 2 sets of 3 reps TOTAL REPS: 53

DAY 2: 55% - 6 sets of 6 reps 65% - 4 sets of 4 reps 70% - 4 sets of 4 reps 75% - 3 sets of 4 reps 85% - 2 sets of 6 reps TOTAL REPS: 86

DAY 3: 50% - 8 sets of 4 reps 55% - 6 sets of 6 reps 70% - 4 sets of 4 reps

DAY 2: 60% - 4 sets of 8 reps 70% - 6 sets of 6 reps 80% - 4 sets of 4 reps 90% - 3 sets of 3 reps TOTAL REPS: 93

DAY 3: 55% - 8 sets of 4 reps 60% - 6 sets of 6 reps 75% - 4 sets of 4 reps

DAY 2: 60% - 3 sets of 8 reps 80% - 2 sets of 4 reps 85% - 2 sets of 3 reps 90% - 4 sets of 2 reps 95% - 6 sets of 2 reps TOTAL REPS: 61

DAY 3: 60% - 8 sets of 8 reps 70% - 6 sets of 6reps 80% - 4 sets of 4 reps 90% - 2 sets of 2 reps

TOTAL REPS: 84

WEEK 2: DAY 1: 55% - 4 sets of 5 reps 60% - 3 sets of 4 reps 65% - 3 sets of 4 reps 75% - 4 sets of 4 reps TOTAL REPS: 60

TOTAL REPS: 84

WEEK 3: DAY 1: 65% - 4 sets of 2 reps 75% - 3 sets of 3 reps 80% - 3 sets of 4 reps 85% - 3 sets of 5 reps 90% - 3 sets of 6 reps TOTAL REPS: 62

TOTAL REPS: 120

Now repeat week 1 for your fourth week. Keep in mind every set should have only about a 15-30 second maximum break which is hardly long enough to load your next set or get a drink of water. This routine is only supplemental to your current workout, which means you still should continue doing your normal weekly workout routine on top of doing this routine. I would highly recommend going to the Nutrishop in Tempe for any supplement purchases when starting this to see your maximum results!

You Googled What?

“Hey, what do you think this bump is?” “I don’t know Google it!”

42

How many times have you caught yourself Googling random things? How personal do you get with Google? Do you have any shame? I recently was having a drunken conversation at happy hour with a few friends, and the topic of what scares you to death came up. Well, like normal folks, my friends listed things like drowning, burning, being haunted by a ghost, pooping your pants in public (don’t ask, she’s a bit out there)…. But being the weirdo I am, all I could think of was “Oh my God, someone is seeing my Google history”. Now, granted I use Google for answers like: how to make a delicious three dollar dinner, or can a process server serve you papers at work. I mainly use Google to diagnose myself, like it’s my own personal computerized doctor. I firmly believe Google has diagnosed me with every sickness I have had for the last three years. I have Googled things like… what does an ingrown hair look like, home remedies to cure a yeast infection, and the worst Google images of every disgusting flesh eating disease you can think of. So, I started to think maybe I am a hypochondriac, or maybe most people do the same, and I shouldn’t feel so ashamed. So I called a few of my not so normal friends and asked them “hey what’s the last thing in your Google search history… and to my surprise I had much relief, as well as the need to reevaluate my friends. Friend 1. Free porn… ok, so you use your Google for personal needs, this isn’t so

by: Randi Tepper

bad. I guess everyone enjoys a little play now and again; however, I will not be using my friend’s phone for anything ever again. Friend 2. I clear my history constantly because of the …. that I Google, but the last one was, do I have a normal vagina ? Hahahahahaha, I still can’t stop laughing about this one, maybe friend 1 and friend 2 should get together, I see a future match-making job for me. Friend 3. Can I use Lotrimin on athlete’s foot and jock itch? Really? Maybe if you weren’t scratching your toes then scratching your nuts you wouldn’t have that problem. Google has the answers to almost everything. Have you ever felt guilty or dirty for the things you end up seeing on Google? Like if your friend calls you a blue waffle and you think what the heck is that so you Google it and realize you could have gone your whole life without seeing something so repulsive, or wondering why your friend thinks of you like that. My question to you is, look at your history and ask yourself, would you be scared to death if someone saw your everyday questions, or the things you have looked up?
