WELCOME!
“The castle grounds were gleaming in the sunlight as though freshly painted; the cloudless sky smiled at itself in the smoothly sparkling lake, the satin-green lawns rippled occasionally in a gentle breeze: June had arrived.” ―J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
While most of us won’t be visiting Hogwart’s, we can feel the magic of the season starting. The days are longer, the sun a bit warmer, school will soon be out, summer is almost here. It is that time of year where we can slow down, spend more time with our family and enjoy those things that give life meaning. The Community Services Department has been busy planning for the season, and we look forward to spending the summer and creating good memories with you. Here are a few highlights of what we have in store: •
Jump Into Summer, our annual free healthy kids day takes place at Weber Point Events Center on Saturday, April 27. It’s a day of healthy kid’s activities, arts and crafts, information on summer programs throughout the City, and lots of prizes. This free event includes lunch for the whole family. Visit our Facebook page for more information.
•
The annual Summer Reading program for all ages begins June 1. There will be some great prizes for all our readers as well as free weekly programs for the whole family. Check out our Summer Reading page for details and a calendar of events.
•
We are also hosting our Summer Book Buddies program for children entering grades 1-3. Volunteer to help younger readers or register your kids to give them extra help with their reading skills. Available at all library branches this summer.
•
Our annual Movies at the Point will occur at Weber Point Events Center every second Friday of the month between June and October. Gates open at 6:30pm. This year’s movies include: Aquaman, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Captain Marvel and Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween.
•
We will also be hosting a Fourth of July Celebration at Weber Point Events Center with music, entertainment, kids’ activities, food vendors and a spectacular fireworks show at 9:30pm! Gates open at 5:30pm.
•
All Stockton Community Centers will resume Ultra-Friday Nights every Friday from 7:00-11:00pm starting June 7 until school starts in the fall.
•
Day Camps will also resume with all centers offering all-day and half-day options for parents this year, starting June 3.
•
We also want to introduce you to our first official outdoor futsal court in Paul E. Weston Park! The popularity of futsal is growing, and we look forward to adding to our list of locations in the future.
•
Drop In for Adult Sports - The City now offers a variety of adult drop-in sports throughout the year including Badminton, Basketball, Pickleball, Table Tennis, and Volleyball. Check with your local community center for hours.
In addition to all the programs that we are offering we are excited to announce that all Community Centers now have free WiFi Internet access. We know this is something the community has desired for a long time and we are glad to finally add this to our offerings. Summer is a special time of year. I encourage you take the time to enjoy this season. It is easy to get caught up in our day-to-day life and forget that the most important thing we can do is to slow down, take a breath, enjoy nature and the company of those we love. Wishing you a safe, fun, and memory-filled summer. Best,
John Alita Community Services Director
