The Walhonding Valley Fire Department will be making their famous barbecue chicken on Sunday. WARSAW – The River View Community Park Social is celebrating its 50th year. In addition to its regular annual schedule, the park will be highlighting its anniversary celebration with “Sparks in the Park” fireworks show at 10 p.m. on Saturday. The social will be held Friday, Aug. 5 through Sunday, Aug. 7. Friday will feature an old-fashioned hoedown and the community pool party from 8 – 10 p.m. Before the fireworks begin on Saturday, Bingo will be played at the large shelter from 6 – 9 p.m.

The popular watermelon-eating contest will be Sunday, Aug. 7 at 3 p.m. below the main stage.
Sunday will feature the main event. At 11:30 a.m., come hungry for the barbecue chicken by the Walhonding Valley Firefighters, homemade noodles, sandwiches, homemade pies, and homemade ice cream. At noon, there will be a martial arts demonstration by McFarland Martial Arts School. The Walhonding Rube Band will be performing from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. and the Chestnut Ridge Bluegrass Gospel Band will take the stage from 1:30 – 3 p.m. At 2 p.m., kids dive for money during the $50 coin toss at the pool.
At 3 p.m., kids can enter the watermelon-eating contest that will be held below the main stage. There will also be a 50/50 raffle at this time. At 3:30 p.m., adopt a plastic duck(s) for the Beaver Run Duck Race and hope he finishes in the money. All day Sunday, there will be a cruise-in car show, dunk tank, and the Rollie Darr Memorial Baseball Tournament. Contributed | Beacon
