WARSAW CANDLELIGHTING Festive Christmas music filled the village square in Warsaw thanks to the fifth and sixth grade honors choir from Warsaw Elementary School. The students are a traditional part of Warsaw’s candlelighting ceremony, which was held on Nov. 29. The Warsaw Business Association, the Warsaw Lions Club, the River View Ministerial Association, the Walhonding Valley Fire Department, EMS and the sheriff’s department work together to make the annual event happen. This year’s honorary candlelighter was Ronnie Lawrence and the speaker was Rev. Ron Davis. “We need to remember that the real reason for the season is to celebrate a light coming into this world named Jesus,” Davis said. He reminded attendees that they represent the light of Jesus and should let it shine brightly, not just at Christmas, but all year long. Lawrence helped get the candles, donated by Canal Cargo, lit while “Silent Night” was sung and then children were invited to visit with Santa Claus.
