COSHOCTON – Dogs and cats weren’t the only pets recently treated to the opportunity to get their pictures taken with Santa Claus. A pot-bellied pig named DaVinci also got into the holiday spirit when Four Paws held a fundraiser at Tractor Supply. DaVinci is one of three pot-bellied pigs owned by Craig and Jill Bolitho of Canal Lewisville. “Craig heard they were doing the fundraiser down there and wanted to take DaVinci to get his picture taken,” Jill said. “He’s our traveler. The girls don’t travel well.” DaVinci only had one minor setback on the

day he was photographed. “We put a piece of wood and padding down in the shopping cart so he’d be comfortable, but he jumped out in the parking lot when he got scared by a dog,” Jill said. “I was scared when he hit the pavement, but my husband and daughter got him back in and he stayed there until it was time to sit on Santa’s lap.” DaVinci and his sisters Bubble and Minnie aren’t just pets to the Bolithos. “They are family members,” Jill said. The pot-bellied pigs are all housebroken and even get presents for Christmas. “A lot of people see them and end up wanting them as pets, but before you get one you have to research, research, research,” Jill said. “They are not a dog or cat. They are a pig” The pigs don’t do stairs well and you aren’t supposed to give them table scraps. “They need fruits, vegetables and pot-bellied pig food,” Jill said. She also advised potential pot-bellied pig parents to be aware of how big the animals get “Ours are each 100 pounds plus,” Jill said. “They are adorable when they are little but a lot of people get rid of them after a year or two because they don’t realize how big they get.” Pot-bellied pigs also can live for at least 20 years “They are a commitment,” Jill said. “Make sure you talk to someone who has them before you get one to find out what their experiences have been like.” JOSIE@COSHOCTONCOUNTYBEACON.COM

Rep. Gibbs address Obamacare issues CONTRIBUUTED TO THE BEACON BY U.S. REP. BOB GIBBS (R-OH)

Three weeks ago the news began to break about the problems with the Obamacare website. As if the website mishaps were not enough of a problem, millions of Americans who are now losing their current healthcare coverage took to the media. This week, American families are unable to afford their healthcare plans. The broken promises continue to pile up, all while the White House continues their campaign to sell the failing healthcare law. Stump speeches and flashy graphics cannot cover up the broken promises made under this law. Americans are quickly realizing that the Affordable Care Act seems to be ‘affordable’ in name only. It seems as though the president has forgotten what affordable means. According to Webster’s dictionary, the word afford is defined as: The ability to pay for something or the ability to do something without having problems. The stories we have heard from across the country and in Ohio shows that this law is doing the exact opposite of what was intended. Americans across the country are unable to keep their healthcare plans even though the president had promised them countless times they could. The promises and assurances the president gave Americans over the last three years regarding the option for people to keep their current healthcare plans was one that many Americans were relying on. The administration knew in 2010 that up to 93 million Americans in the private market could lose their current plans due to Obamacare. Instead of acknowledging this problem and acting to avoid it, it was swept under the rug. On Nov. 13, the administration released the Obamacare enrollment data for the month of October. As we know these numbers were well below their expectations. The administration had projected that 13,300 Ohioans would enroll and when the time came only 1,150 Ohioans enrolled. Many Ohioans are feeling the effects of Obamacare and I’ve received your stories. A constituent from Ashland, wrote in saying that he and his wife are both retired and liked their current healthcare plan. They were led to believe by the president that they could keep their current healthcare coverage if they liked it. Their premiums are now set to increase and they will struggle to afford the plan. They asked a question that many of us have asked ourselves, why has fairness not been applied to all Americans regarding the healthcare law, especially if big businesses are exempt but American families are left to fend for themselves? The questions and sentiments that many of you have expressed, regarding your healthcare

WHO:

Sacred Heart Children’s Choir to perform at Statehouse COSHOCTON – The Sacred Heart Children’s Choir has been invited to sing at the Ohio Statehouse this Friday, Dec. 13 for one of their noon concert series leading up to Christmas. In addition to the choir, the Sacred Heart Dulcimer Prayer Group will be traveling with them to provide accompaniment. But for those who can’t travel to Columbus to hear the two groups perform, a live broadcast of the performance will be aired on www.ohiochannel.org. Only 20 groups a year from Ohio are invited to sing at the Statehouse Holiday concert series. The children’s choir has sung at the Statehouse once before, two years ago, but this is the first time the Dulcimer Prayer Group has performed out of state. The Dulcimer Prayer Group started around the Lent season in 2012. They began as more of a prayer group, bringing music into their own prayer life, but when they played for a mass at Dulcimer Days Festival, the members wanted to start performing. “I started it as an opportunity to have people get a sense of how to bring music into their prayer life,” said Father Bill Hritsko.

The group is open to any community member who enjoys music and is not restricted to those of Catholic faith. They meet the second and fourth Monday of the month from 6 – 7 p.m. at the church. The group has been practicing since October to prepare for their performance at the Statehouse with the Children’s Choir. The Children’s Choir will also play along on their instruments for two numbers, performing with the autoharp, the merimbula, and others. The choir has a repertoire of 24 songs and will sing at the Statehouse for one hour. Some of the sacred music included in their repertoire is “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming”, “Angels We Have Heard on High”, “Maria Walked amid the Thorn”, “The Carol of the Birds”, and many others. They also sing, “The Friendly Beasts” where choir members sing duets as each of the animals. The Children’s Choir will also be featured as part of the Sacred Heart Christmas play on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at the school at 7 p.m.

broken bones in her legs, one being a compound fracture and a broken heel. “Sadly Amber also was sick before the accident,” Marla said. “She was going to go to the doctor the next day for bronchitis, but after the crash and being bed ridden she ended up developing MRSA.” It’s been a long month for the Lillibridges, but Marla has remained by her daughter’s side every step of the way. “I haven’t been home yet,” she said. “I came up here the day this happened and will remain here until she comes home.” Amber is currently a patient at the OSU Wexner Center in Columbus. “She’s been through a variety of emotions since she got here,” Marla said. “She’s gone through feelings of disbelief, grief and hopelessness, but now she is spiritually, mentally and emotionally on a good road to recovery. This whole thing has brought her closer to God. She relies on prayer a lot.” The family also has found strength in support from the community, especially the SportZone, where Amber is employed. “They’ve been fabulous,” Marla said. Jodi Selders from the SportZone also organized fundraising efforts for the family by selling t-shirts, car decals, bracelets and sweatshirts that show support for Amber.

COSHOCTON - Amber Lillibridge is a determined 21-year-old and that fighting spirit is helping her battle back from injuries sustained in a severe car accident. The Nov. 5 accident near Tyndal, broke every bone in her face. “The doctors did a heck of a job rebuilding her face,” said Marla Lillibridge, Amber’s mother. “She has minimal scaring and looks very close to what she did before.” The facial injuries, however, were just the start of Amber’s problems. She received several other injuries that day including a crushed pelvis,

“It’s a true godsend,” Marla said. “They have just done so much at the SportZone. They also put her name at the top of the time clock and said it’s not coming off until she clocks in again.” Unfortunately, returning to work and classes at Ohio University in Zanesville is still quite some time away. She is healing, but still has many battles to fight. “She has a peg and feeding tube, but the formula they give her makes her sick and she vomits,” Marla said. “That’s super scary because her mouth is wired shut.” Thankfully, one problem Amber doesn’t have to deal with is brain damage. “When she came out of the coma she started using sign language so we knew her brain functioning was still intact,” Marla said. “I taught her sign language when she was 4-yearsold and she kept up with it.” The goal is for Amber to be home by March. “We have four more weeks until they can remove the wires from her jaws and then they have to remove her tubes so she can start eating,” Marla said. “She also will have to go through intensive physical therapy at OSU’s Dodds Hall. She’s not allowed to be weight bearing until January. Until then her days are spent in bed.” Marla does her best to update everyone on Amber’s progress and updates also are posted to a Facebook page called Amber‘s Journey. There also is a gofundme.com site set up to raise funds to help Amber. Nearly $6,000 has already been raised. All contributions are greatly appreciated, especially since Amber doesn’t have insurance. “The town’s support has been phenomenal,” Marla said. “Everyone has been so comforting and I feel like they are fighting right along with us.” The family, which includes Amber’s dad Keanan and her brother Brice, also is very appreciative of Levi Lamp, Amber’s boyfriend of almost five years. “He attends Ohio State University and has been by her side since the day this happened,” Marla said. “He left class to rush over here. He was here when the Medflight helicopter landed and was able to answer any questions until we arrived.” Levi is a River View High School graduate and Amber is a graduate of Coshocton High School. “I just want people to know how grateful we are for every donation that has been made and their prayers,” Marla said. “At first it was uncertain if Amber was going to make it and without all the prayer chains she’s been on I’m not so sure she’d be where she is. All the prayers have been very helpful.” JOSIE@COSHOCTONCOUNTYBEACON.COM

In 2011, with public and private financial support from churches, businesses, individuals and a generous grant from the Schooler Family Foundation, the shelter re-opened its doors in the former church parsonage. The Homeless Shelter, located next to the Shiloh Church, provides a fully furnished full service 10-bed emergency shelter for the citizens of Coshocton and the surrounding area who have fallen on hard times. The shelter is supported by an all volunteer staff from the Executive Director to the Residential Advisors. Most recently, the Shiloh Church through the leadership of its pastor of 23 years, Reverend Cliff Biggers, works with 15-20 at risk youth. The Shiloh Church opens its doors to these youth along with its members for table-tennis, pool, dart games, hot chocolate, doughnuts and fellowship.

COSHOCTON - On Nov. 24, the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Coshocton, Ohio celebrated 106 years of religious and social services to its members and citizens of Coshocton. The local church was responsible for establishing a full service homeless shelter in the lower level of the church in 2005, helping two Hurricane Katrina survivors. The shelter is currently operated by the board of directors of the Greater Coshocton Community Development Corporation a 501 (c)(3) non-profit. The Shiloh Church has supported the shelter through giving and the in-kind gift of office space and volunteers. The Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Coshocton, Ohio recently lost the use of the building heat source. After an extensive evaluation from a qualified boiler contractor, the boiler cannot be repaired but must be replaced at a cost of just under $32,000.00. The Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church members are requesting public and private financial support to help replace the boiler in the church building. Any size donation would be appreciated as Shiloh intends to carry on the tradition of religious and social support to members of the Coshocton community and the world. December 13th, 1953 Harry A. Canton of White Eyes Township had been re-elected as secretary of the National Grange in Burlington, VT. Canton had been active in grange activities since 1902 and had served as secretary of the National Grange since 1928. He was an active member of the Oak Grove Grange and joined just two months after it was founded when membership fees were $1 a year. It had since been raised to $2.

December 11th, 1983 Donna Jean Ramsey of River View Schools had placed first in the area’s Voice of Democracy National Broadcast Scriptwriting Contest. The contest was open to all 10th, 11th, and 12th graders in five local counties and drew 375 participants. The theme of the contest was “My Role in Upholding the Constitution”. Other county students who placed well were Sarah McFadden and Phil Conn, both of Coshocton, who tied for sixth place.

December 16th, 1973 The Johnson Humrickhouse Museum had just been awarded full accreditation by the American Association of Museums. This certified that the museum had met the ridged standards of operation established by the leaders of the museum profession. Only 284 museums in the United States had been certified at that time with 14 being in Ohio. This was a fine achievement for the local museum as many museums in the United States were turned down on their first attempt to receive accreditation. The JohnsonHumrickhouse Museum had been awarded the first time applying.

WARSAW The twelfth annual Higher Hopes Therapeutic Riding Center auction was another great success and Tom Roahrig gives all the credit to the volunteers. Roahrig said, “It just means everything for us that people come out and support this event. Every year we get scared, every year we get the weather, every year we get something but people still come. They support us so much; you saw the $500 check. And I’ve been told there are other checks. It’s a wonderful feeling. I could stand here and it would bring tears to my eyes. It’s just a wonderful feeling

December 15th, 1963 Rev. Thomas Phillippe of the Wesleyan Methodist Church on Burt Ave. wanted to reach out to the community through prayer in a new and unique way. Residents of Coshocton could call Dial – A – Prayer to hear a personal spiritual message recorded by Rev. Phillippe. The prayer was changed each day at midnight and lasted 60 seconds. Rev. Phillippe stated that he had started the ministry when he heard that similar ministries in other cities were helping those with depression or suicidal thoughts.

to see the community supporting us. And not only that, it’s getting to be more and more. It’s getting easier to get donations. Frees Medical called us, just come out and get it. Tom Edwards, last year a Stihl weed eater, this year a Stihl chainsaw. The quality is coming up and up of the donations. The people give like there is no tomorrow and that just means so much to us – to see the support and to know that what we’re doing makes a difference in this community. It takes a lot of volunteers, everyone has their jobs, nobody asks questions, and we all check and balance each other. Everyone does their job and it all comes together today. It’s a wonderful thing.” The auction was held Saturday evening, Dec. 7 in the River View High School cafeteria. The event is sponsored by the River View FFA and members of the FFA chapter volunteer their time at the event by taking auction items to the successful bidder and helping organize the many donated items. Auction services were provided by Jim Nelson, Shawn Dostie and Wayne Yoder. MARK@COSHOCTONCOUNTYBEACON.COM

Coshocton County highest in deer check numbers COLUMBUS – Hunters checked 22,620 whitetailed deer on Monday, Dec. 2, the opening day of Ohio’s deer-gun hunting season, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

The deer-gun season remained open through Sunday, Dec. 8. Hunting is the best and most effective management tool for maintaining Ohio’s healthy deer population. Approximately 420,000 hunters were expected to participate in this year’s season. Find more information about deer hunting in the Ohio 2013-2014 Hunting and Trapping Regulations or at wildohio.com. So far this season, hunters have harvested 109,932 deer compared to 113,107 at the same point in the season last year, which represents a 3% difference. Counties reporting the highest numbers of deer checked in 2013: Coshocton (940), Ashtabula (880), Tuscarawas (853), Muskingum (831), Guernsey (742), Harrison (738), Carroll (698), Knox (645), Columbiana (584) and Licking (572). The ODNR Division of Wildlife remains committed to properly managing Ohio’s deer populations through a combination of regulatory and programmatic changes. Progress toward reducing locally abundant herds closer to target levels is expected and strides have already been made in reducing deer herds in many counties that are above their targeted levels. Hunters are encouraged to harvest more antlerless deer in some areas of Ohio this season to help the needy in their area and also manage deer populations. The ODNR Division of Wildlife is working

with Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH) to help pay for the processing of donated venison. Hunters who donate a deer to a food bank are not required to pay the processing cost as long as funding for the effort is available. More information about this program can be found online at fhfh.org. Other opportunities for hunters to donate venison can be pursued through Safari Club International’s Sportsmen Against Hunger program. Information about this program can be found at safariclubfoundation.org. Whitetails Unlimited chapters also use local funds for programs such as venison donation. Go to whitetailsunlimited.com to find a local chapter and make a donation. Deer hunting in Ohio continues to be a popular activity for many who enjoy the outdoors. Ohio hunters checked 218,910 deer during the 2012-2013 season. Ohio ranks fifth nationally in resident hunters and 11th in the number of jobs associated with huntingrelated industries. Hunting has a more than $853 million economic impact in Ohio through the sale of equipment, fuel, food, lodging and more, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s Hunting in America: An Economic Force for Conservation publication. ODNR ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR website at ohiodnr.gov.

“This is a time of year when our minds are understandably focused on our families and the holidays, but the Ohio Veterans Bonus is a great benefit for those who’ve served, as well as their families,” Ohio Department of Veterans Services Director Tim Gorrell said. “If you think you may be eligible, take the time to check into and apply, you owe it to yourself and your family to find out. If you know someone who you think may be eligible, please reach out and let them know. We don’t want anyone to miss out.” The Ohio Veterans Bonus is open to veterans who served anywhere in the world during the Persian Gulf War era as well as the eras of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The amount of the Bonus is higher for service in the war zones. The Bonus is also open to the next of kin of those who were killed in action or died of disease as a result of in-theater service. The Ohio Veterans Bonus is not subject to federal or state taxes, and can be used for any purpose. Ohio voters approved the Ohio Veterans Bonus by an overwhelming margin in Nov. 2009, to be awarded to veterans of the Armed Forces and military service members who served during the periods of the Persian Gulf War and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The specific criteria and deadlines for all eras of service are below: • Military service of more than 90 days active duty, not for training, anywhere in the world during the following periods: o August 2, 1990 through March 3, 1991 – Persian Gulf; deadline to apply is December 31, 2013 o October 7, 2001 through a date to be determined by the President – Afghanistan o March 19, 2003 through December 31, 2011 – Iraq; deadline to apply is December 31, 2014 • Eligible veterans and military service members must have been Ohio residents at the time of their entry into the military, and must be Ohio residents at the time they apply. The bonus pays $100 a month to veterans who served in the Persian Gulf theater, or in

COLUMBUS – Many Ohioans are looking ahead this month to Christmas, but veterans of the Armed Forces who served during the time of the Persian Gulf War have a very important deadline falling just after the holiday. Applications for the Ohio Veterans Bonus for Persian Gulf era veterans must be submitted no later than Dec. 31. Veterans eligible to receive the Persian Gulf War portion of the Ohio Veterans Bonus can have served anywhere in the world for at least 90 days active duty, not for training, between August 2, 1990 and March 3, 1991. The amount of the bonus is higher for service in the Persian Gulf theater. Eligible veterans must have been a resident of Ohio when they entered the military, and must be a resident at the time they apply. The Ohio Veterans Bonus was overwhelmingly approved by Ohio voters in November 2009 as a thank you to those Ohioans who served in the military during the time of the Persian Gulf War, as well as during the time of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Bonus continues past Dec. 31 for veterans of the Iraq War, who have until Dec. 31, 2014 to apply. It also continues for veterans of the Afghanistan War and all veterans who served after Oct. 7, 2001. No deadline has been announced for these veterans.

the countries of Afghanistan or Iraq, up to a maximum of $1,000. For veterans who served elsewhere, the payment is $50 a month up to a $500 maximum. Veterans medically discharged due to injuries sustained in combat can receive $1,000, plus up to $500 for months of service elsewhere. Family members of those killed in action or who died from disease as a result of their in-theater service can receive a bonus of $5,000 plus whatever the service member was eligible for, up to a total of $6,500. To date, almost $60 million has been paid to nearly 72,000 veterans and family members. For more information or to apply: • Call toll-free to 1-877-OHIO VET (1-877644-6838) option 2 • Visit www.veteransbonus.ohio.gov • Visit any county veteran service office (see www.ohiovet.gov for an interactive map of the county offices). These offices can also provide information about all federal and state veterans’ benefits, and assist veterans in the application process. • The department also provides information about the Bonus through its social media and at veterans’ events, and has advertised the program in print and broadcast media, as well as in veterans’ publications and a mailing to veterans whose service likely occurred during the Persian Gulf era. The Ohio Veterans Bonus continues a tradition of bonuses to reward Ohio veterans that dates back to the Civil War. Those other war bonuses are now closed.

They will look back on this as the years go by and know that it was something very special.” The lone senior on the team, Laura Frazee said, “It was truly something I will never forget. To spend the season with the group of girls on the team made it even more memorable to me.” The Ridgewood Lady Generals varsity volleyball team made it to the state tournament for the first time in school history. Edward Jones ranks first in National Survey of Financial Advisors CONTRIBUTED TO THE BEACON COSHOCTON - For the 19th time, the financial services firm Edward Jones ranked No. 1 in WealthManagement.com/REP. magazine’s annual survey of the nation’s six largest financial services firms, according to Mike Remington and Doug Speicher, Coshocton area Financial Advisors. The magazine randomly selects financial advisors nationwide and asks them to rank their firms in various categories. Edward Jones’ overall score was 9.5 out of 10 possible points. The firm scored top marks across the board, earning near perfect scores in overall ethics (9.8) and public image (9.7), according to WealthManagement.com. “This honor is a testament to the enduring strength of our firm values, our tradeoffs and our partnership,” said Mike and Doug. “We are guided by a clear mission to serve the serious, long-term individual investor and to provide the best career-long opportunity for financial advisors who take pride in their work and appreciate the importance of the work we do.” Edward Jones financial advisors gave the firm some of the highest scores in the technology and training category, scoring high above the other five firms in every sub-category which includes the quality of technology, clarity and online access of client account statements and ongoing training. According to WealthManagement.com, between Oct. 7 and Nov. 7, 2013, invitations were emailed to print subscribers and advisors from various firms in the Meridian-AIQ database requesting participation in an online survey. By Nov. 7, 2,333 completed responses were received. Financial Advisors rated their current employers on 33 items related to their satisfaction. Ratings are based on a 1-to-10 scale, with 10 representing the highest satisfaction level. Edward Jones provides financial services for individual investors in the United States and, through its affiliate, in Canada. Every aspect of the firm’s business, from the types of investment options offered to the location of branch offices, is designed to cater to individual investors in the communities in which they live and work. The firm’s 12,000-plus financial advisors work directly with nearly 7 million clients to understand their personal goals -- from college savings to retirement -- and create long-term investment solutions that emphasize a well-balanced portfolio and a buy-and-hold strategy. Edward Jones embraces the importance of building long-term, face-to-face relationships with clients, helping them to understand and make sense of the investment options available today.

Focus group discusses ‘Contagion’

CONTAGION DISCUSSION What would happen if an infectious disease broke out in Coshocton County? Would county emergency responders be prepared? That’s what public health officials and other community members discussed last Wednesday, Dec. 4 in the Frontier Power Community Room after watching the 2011 movie, ‘Contagion’. The event was facilitated by Christy Mosier, Public Health Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, and Betty King, Regional Public Health Coordinator. “If this were happening here in Ohio, would we be prepared and what effect would it have on your agency?” asked King. Participants in the table discussion agreed that hospitals would need to be notified, doctors would need to keep a close eye on all patient symptoms, the sick would need to be secluded from the healthy, and there would need to be a way to notify residents of the disease.

earns soccer honors Quarter auction to benefit Children’s Hospital ArneyCONTRIBUTED TO THE BEACON COSHOCTON - A quarter auction will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Coshocton Village Inn & Suites to benefit Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. Doors open at 5 p.m. “Quarter auctions, especially this time of the year, are a great way to support charities and possibly win great items which can be used as gifts for those holiday exchanges,” said Valerie Boateng, event promoter for RD Promotions. Throughout the year, RD Promotions raises funds for the hospital which serves thousands of families from Coshocton and surrounding counties. The auction is the last fundraiser for the year for the group which also raises funds from its annual Celebrity Waiter Dinner, singing events and other community appearances. “About four years ago, after touring the hospital and learning about its services, as a group we decided to allow the hospital to put our donations to serve its greatest need,” Boateng said. “And we have done that each year since.”

CONTRIBUTED TO THE BEACON

RD Promotions and several of its volunteers had a connection with the hospital. Karen Mahon’s grandson has been a patient his whole life. Just recently, volunteer Andrea Goodwin found herself seeking services at the hospital for her son. “When you have a child needing surgery or other services, there’s no better environment than Children’s Hospital,” Goodwin said. A variety of local vendors will have displays and cash and carry items during the quarter auction. Admission tickets are $5 in advance or at the door. Attendees should take quarters for bidding. Vendors will have some quarters available for exchange. A food stand will be available with snacks, drinks and sandwiches. For more details on how quarter auctions work, or to purchase tickets in advance, call Boateng at 740-610-1519.

coverage are similar to other stories from around the country. The pattern of broken promises that the American public has been put through continues to bring more uncertainty for hardworking Americans. It will continue to be a priority of mine to spur economic growth, put people back to work and provide fairness for all. Obamacare is flawed and we need to repeal the law and start from scratch. Americans deserve a plan that has market based principles that would strengthen the patient to doctor relationship. Many are worried that they will lose access to their current doctor. Families should not have to worry that they will have limited access to hospitals and have different doctors because they are forced into Obamacare. We need a healthcare law that would allow patients to keep their current doctor, address the high costs of care and also improve the quality of care patients receive. The American people deserve and expect more than a sluggish jobs report, a stagnate economy and the threat of losing their current healthcare plans. The red tape that plagues Washington is standing in the way of Americans at the doctor’s office, the gas pump, and the dinner table. It is important for me to hear your thoughts on how the implementation is affecting

on establishing such a memorial through the Endowment Fund should contact Moe Siegrist or Dick Baker at Ohio Heritage Bank. In addition, yearly sponsors are very much needed. These contributors can stipulate some requirements of a qualified applicant such as a student in a particular school, a specified youth group such as 4-H, sports affiliation, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, FFA, Student Council to name a few examples. Sponsors are very much needed as contributions are down in these complex economical times. Many past recipients or their parents give back to the Dollars For Scholars upon completion of their studies as a way of saying thank you. Sponsors are invited to personally present their award at the annual Awards Ceremony. The 2014 campaign will kick off in January with previous sponsors receiving sponsorship letters. If you or your service organization would like to be part of this very important element of the education process for the youth of Coshocton County, please contact Moe Siegrist or Dick Baker at Ohio Heritage Bank. With the help of the community, the Dollars For Scholars is looking forward to another great year of serving our youth in 2014. Students wanting more information on applying for a scholarship should contact their school guidance counselor.

COSHOCTON - The annual meeting of the Coshocton County Dollars For Scholars was recently held at Ohio Heritage Bank with President Stan Zurowski presiding. Directors for the 2014 term and officers for the 20132014 fiscal year were elected. Serving the Board as officers are: President Stan Zurowski, Vice President Moe Siegrist, Secretary Chuck Wiseman, Treasurer Marsha Cusin, Publicity Chairman Jan Luce and Campaign Chairman Jim Eckelberry. The Board welcomed new Board member Marcia Mercer. Sandra Randles retired from the Board of Directors after serving for many years as Board Secretary. Board members were presented with the president’s annual report for 2013. Due to the generosity of the community and hard work of Campaign Manager Jim Eckelberry, the 2013 Coshocton County Dollars For Scholars was again an impressive success. One hundred thirty eight students were awarded $73,700.00. The dollar amount awarded since the inception of the county chapter of the Dollars For Scholars is over $1,747,700. The program has assisted over 3,151 students seeking to continue their education. The Endowment fund is a large contributor to this success. The fund was established in 1980 and provides a way to memorialize friends or relatives. Unfortunately, this fund is beginning to need additional monies to be able to continue to serve the youth of Coshocton County as generously. Anyone wanting more information
