Relay For Life is a family event 1. No alcohol is allowed.

2. No smoking is permitted at this event.

3. No pets (even on leashes) are permitted within the fairgrounds at any time – even during setup.

4. No skateboards, rollerblades, bicycles or golf carts are allowed on the track after 5:45 p.m. Basically nothing with wheels except wheelchairs or strollers.

5. All personal vehicles must be off of the track by 5 p.m. Friday.

6. Campfires are permitted as long as they are contained in firerings.

All ash should be removed from the grounds. Do not burn trash in the campfires. There are ample trash cans available throughout the fairgrounds.

7. Pop cans can be disposed of in the recycling that have been placed around the track.

8. Teams are asked to leave their campsites exactly as they found them.

That includes depositing all trash in the trash cans.

Julie Kiser & Heather Pope As your co-chairs for this year and on behalf of your many committee members, we want to personally welcome you to Relay For Life 2014!

We are very excited and honored to be given this opportunity to be your co-chairs again this year. Relay For Life is something we hold near and dear to our hearts. Our committee has worked very hard throughout the year starting in September to make this the best Relay yet. We set ourselves a goal of having 32 teams, with 3 new teams participating.

We surpassed the goal and are happy to announce we have a total of 40 teams, with 10 new teams participating in Relay 2014. Coshocton County is reaching for $121,000 to help fight this dreaded disease known as cancer.

This year’s theme is “Racing For A Cause”. As always in the past, teams can decorate their campsites with their own interpretation of the theme. Everyone looks forward to the creativity and different aspects of campsites. One of the many activities teams can take part in is the annual tent judging contest. We invite you to join us at the fairgrounds Friday, May 16th and Saturday, May 17th and bring a friend to enjoy this years Relay. Our opening ceremonies will begin at 6:00pm, with our survivor lap kicking off the official event followed by the caregiver lap. The annual Luminaria service will begin later at 9:30 pm honoring those who continue to fight and those we remember that have lost their fight. Throughout the full 24 hour event we will have food, games, entertainment and fun for the whole family. Just as Relayers are beginning to grow weary through the night we have a jam packed Saturday. Starting the morning off with a 5K and continuing to the Miss Relay contest followed by the Purse auction and Cake Auction. As always our wonderful Armed Forces Ceremony will begin at 12pm. We will wrap up the event by announcing the total money raised, top team levels, and reflecting on a memorable 2014 Relay For Life. New and exciting changes are the Anything Goes Auction starting at 7pm Friday evening and then the team processional lap will follow at 9:00 pm.

Our honorary chairs, Skin Cancer Survivors, will be recognized during the opening ceremonies on Friday evening at 6:00 pm. Even if you’re not on a team or have never participated before, stop by and take a walk around the track and be a 2014 Relayer. We are “Racing For A Cause” so that one day someone will not have to hear those dreaded words, you have cancer. Please mark your calendar for Friday, May 16th and Saturday, May 17th to be part of the 2014 Coshocton County Relay For Life.

B-11 Racing for a Cause

- New this Year: Miss Relay will be themed - This year’s theme is women of racing. Use your imagination.

- She could be a driver, a runner, a wife, a tire changer, etc.

The possibilities are endless - We encourage you to bring a purse full of goodies with an itemized list and value as previous years - This is a family-oriented function, so keep the content to PG-13 please - If your lady would like to dress up and promote your team and/or purse at the “Anything Goes Auction” and help remind patrons that this auction as well as the cake auction will be the following day after Miss Relay. The contestant is invited to dress up and mingle through the auction crowd. Show off your purse and liven up the bidding crowd. This could be worth participation points.

- Be ready by 10 a.m. at the Main Stage. Fill out your Miss Relay form and bring it with you for the announcer.

You are cordially invited to attend the Relay for Life Armed Forces Walk on May 17, 2014, 12 noon, at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds. A Veterans’ Reception area will be located in Commercial Building #1 and open at 11:00 am. Snacks, water and seating are available while you wait for the walk to begin. The brief opening ceremony will begin at noon. Veterans will assemble and walk by military branch. Blue Star Mother’s will carry branch flags and precede each unit. All walkers are asked to return to the stage area after the walk for a brief closing ceremony and singing of God Bless America. There is a “Veterans Only” parking area, which is located behind the Commercial Buildings for easy access to Commercial building #1. Use the 8th Street entrance to access this parking area.

Walhonding Rube Band There was an African American barber who came to New Castle about 1913 and got some of the boys together with instruments.

He taught them to play and they made the original Walhonding Band. Somewhere in the 1950’s, they allowed girls to join and at this time they played only marches. Around 1980, under the direction of Don Nixon, they began to play other types of music as well as marches and became the Walhonding Rube Band. We incorporate musicians from several counties in the vicinity and will accept anyone who has an instrument and knows a little about playing.

Jody’s Dance Group Jody’s Dance is a dance studio in West Lafayette that began on a patio at the Ridgewood High School in 1973. Still going strong after all these years, we offer tap, jazz, hip hop, baton, gymnastics, and beginning ballet. The dancers learn to dance with the greatest focus being on the child’s spirit and confidence. The child can forget about the concerns of their hectic week for just a little bit and get lost in the fun of dance as they look forward to a Spring Recital. Thank you to the community for all your support.
