Alan the Camel Kids Yoga Class Plan This is kids yoga meets Indiana Jones! We take a trip to Egypt for a grand tour of the temples by a very kind camel called Alan. A thief has stolen the precious Crystal Rose from the Temple of the Sun Queen. We help Alan unravel the mystery and find the thief. This story is all about TELLING THE TRUTH and NOT STEALING. We learn that there are always CONSEQUENCES TO OUR ACTIONS especially when we take something that isn’t ours. It’s also a good way of learning about Pyramids, and Pharaohs.

Alan the Camel - Story Script
W
Very exciting! We are off to Egypt today to visit a camel called Alan. Alan is a tour guide and knows all about ancient Egypt! The Pharaohs, the tombs and the temples. Let’s get our brain and body ready to be brave explorers. We sit with our legs crossed and take some big deep breaths, slowly in through our nose and out of our nose. And again. That’s better. Now we feel steady and calm.
IE
Let’s make a packed lunch! Sitting with our legs crossed still, we reach up to get our lunch box. We lower it down in front of us. Keeping our bottom planted on the floor. Now we reach up and get our water bottle – we’ll be needing lots of water in Egypt as it’s very very hot. We twist one way to fill our bottle up. Now we twist the other way to get our sandwiches. Mmm…It’d be good to get a couple of nice snacks for Alan too. We reach over to one side to get a nice handful of fresh green grass. Now over to the other side to get some juicy tasty dates! Finally we reach up again to put the lid on our lunch box.
There now we’re packed it’s time to go! Look! On the window ledge is a Pelican (flamingo pose) who is going to take us to Egypt! He’s standing on one leg and has a lovely long neck, very graceful! And a big bulbous beak blowing our cheeks out. We fold forwards to hop on and off we go flying high into the sky. So exciting!
EV
We’re coming into land (mouse pose). And we find we’re in Cairo… The capital of Egypt! Wow It’s very busy, and bustling with people and noises. And the sunshine is boiling hot. The Egyptians believe in the Sun God Ra, so let’s say Hello! Hello Ra! Now we put on some sun cream. Blob blob blob and rub it all over! There’s a donkey (horse pose) trotting over. He does a little happy donkey kick before saying “Excuse me, Alan the Camel is waiting for you at the Crystal Temple. I’ll take you!” Well this is exciting! We get onto the donkey (horse other side), and off we trot to meet Alan. Clip clop clip clop!
PR
We ride past the famous pyramids (dog pose with leg to the side). These were built in ancient times, like giant graves or tombs, to bury the Kings who they called Pharaohs. They are amazing. Oh look! Trotting out from behind one of those pyramids is a camel. It’s Alan! He blows a big happy raspberry! Oh thanks Alan! We know he doesn’t mean to be rude! We say ‘Shukran’ (namaste pose), which means thank you in Egyptian to the Donkey. Then off we go with Alan to shelter from the sun in the shade of a Sphinx statue. A sphinx is a creature with the body of a lion and a lady’s head.
Alan tells us he has some bad news. Something very precious has been taken from the Crystal Temple. The one and only crystal rose! We all know we shouldn’t take things that don’t belong to us! This very important item belonged to the Sun Queen. Now it has been taken, Alan is worried the spirit of the Sun Queen will wake and be very angry. We must find it before she wakes up!

“Taking something that doesn’t belong to you is never a good idea. If we want to look at or hold something, we must ask permission. ”

Alan needs our help, so we get busy trying to find out some more information. We talk to a fellow tour guide - a cat called Widget who stretches her back and then greets us warmly ‘how do you do’. Widget has noticed the new snake charmer outside the temple and wonders if he might have something to do with it. We peek out at him using our binoculars. There he is, sat cross legged playing his pungi – his snake charmer flute. He closes his eyes as he plays to concentrate. In front of him is a basket. This is where the cobra snake must be. Yes. Look! There it is, wiggling its way up and poking its head out of the basket! Hang on! We can see something sparkling on top of the cobras’ head! Could it be? Yes! It’s the Crystal Rose! All of a sudden the snake charmer opens his eyes and sees that the snake is wearing the crystal rose on its head – can you look up to your forehead? The snake charmer stands up from cross legged (without touching the ground), folds forward placing the lid quickly down on the basket and the snake. He then picks it all up, balances it on his head and runs off!
EV
“When we do something wrong, we always have the choice to stop, breathe and think calmly about what to do.” We go after him to get the Crystal Rose back! We take big steps to keep up with Alan the Camel, who is able to cover more ground than us with his very long legs! Alan lifts his nose to smell the air (reaching up with arms) and detect which way the snake charmer has gone. Uh oh! We’ve come to the river and it’s completely full of rather large menacing looking crocodiles! It’s a Crocodile infested river!
PR
We sit up and look over to one side, then over to the other side where we spot a very wobbly rope bridge. Oh crumbs! We’re going to have to cross the bridge. Alan has an idea – to make sure the crocodiles don’t snap at the bridge while we’re crossing he will distract them by doing one of his big funny camel raspberry sounds! We start our careful balancing as we cross the rope bridge! Phew! We did it! Alan manages to cross the river further up avoiding the crocodiles and meets us on the other side. Up ahead we can see a mountain. Alan tells us that this is called Viper mountain – we can see the snake charmer running towards it. We follow. But to help us go faster, Alan suggests we jump on his back. He lowers his huge body down (puppy dog pose) to the ground and we get on – wrapping our legs around his hump (butterfly pose). Then we hold on tight as Alan trots in the direction of the snake charmer.
At the foot of Viper mountain we see a cave. But the cave is shut with a large stone door! Hmmm! How do we get in? Look! Someone’s coming! It’s the snake charmer! Quick! We hide (mouse pose) behind a rock! We wait – listening carefully to see what the snake charmer will do. We hear him say some words…”Open Sesame!” Then a deep rumbling sound starts – that’s the stone door opening! We hear his footsteps enter the cave and the grinding sound of the cave door closing again! Ah Ha! We now know the secret code to unlock the door! Let’s try it! © Cosmic Kids 2019
W
We stand in front of the door and say the special code words “Open Sesame”. The door slowly starts to open. We enter and it closes behind us. It’s so dark in here! We tiptoe inside…Oh be careful! We can see a scorpion (dragonfly pose) scuttling along the ground! Once we get to the end of the cave we see lots of candles around. In the centre of the candles is a table. On the table is the precious crystal rose! We then see the snake charmer. At first he tells a lie “It wasn’t me. I just thought I could give it a clean and then return it!” But it’s very clear he is not telling the truth – it never pays to lie does it? All of a sudden the snake charmer leaps into the air like a monkey! He’s been stung by the scorpion!
“Telling lies usually ends up causing harm”
IE
We explain that he should not have taken the crystal rose as it doesn’t belong to him. And if the sun queen notices that it’s gone she’ll be very angry and release a curse. The snake charmer feels very bad about it and is very sorry. He promises to do everything he can to pay for stealing. First we must get the crystal rose back to the Crystal Temple before it’s too late! We put the crystal rose carefully in our backpack and spot a mine train in the cave – this will take us underground all the way back towards Cairo past the temples. We all jump on board into a cart and clickety clack all the way back to the Crystal Temple.
EV
As we get outside, we notice that a wind has picked up. There is a whirl of sand kicking up from the desert. There is a clap of thunder in the sky, then another and another! Uh oh…The Sun Queen has released a ferocious storm – she must have noticed that the Crystal Rose is missing. No time to lose! We enter the amazing Crystal Temple! We pass through a corridor of large stone statues – they are still with big wide eyes. We tiptoe past as we don’t want to disturb them! At the end of the corridor is Widget the Cat! Phew! She leads us into the centre of the beautiful temple, past the wall paintings, towards a seated statue of a beautiful woman (mermaid pose) This is a statue of the Sun Queen and her hands are lifted to hold the Crystal Rose. We carefully replace the rose. Then walk backwards, our heads bowed in respect to the Sun Queen as we quietly leave. We are hoping that this means the sandstorm will now be over.
PR
On our way out of the temple we spot a little beetle. A Scarab Beetle (happy baby) and it’s stuck on its back with its legs in the air. In Egypt the Scarab beetle is thought to bring you good luck! We flip the beetle over and his back gleams a beautiful blue colour and he scuttles off. Maybe this is a good sign? Thankfully when we get outside the storm has mysteriously settled – we know why and together with Alan the Camel and Widget the Cat we are heroes today! Let’s raise our arms and have a cheer! The snake charmer has made a promise to Alan to become a guardian for the temples and to always be on the look out for thieves – and that he will never steal or tell lies again. It’s time for us to go! Drifting down to land in front of us is a magic carpet! We get on. Alan thanks us and says goodbye and we drift up into the night sky. As we fly we lie back on our soft cosy magic carpet to head home. Relaxing and enjoying the ride.

Relaxation
W
It’s been a very exciting adventure in Egypt today and we have had to be very brave. It was very wrong of the snake charmer to take the Crystal Rose. He thought it was so beautiful and wanted it for himself – but we know that it’s not right to take things that don’t belong to us. Hopefully he has learnt this lesson – and the lesson about telling lies. It never works and always ends badly. The best thing to do is to own up when we’ve done something wrong – this is the right thing to do and will mean we can always make things better. Whatever we decide to do, we have to understand that there are always consequences for our actions. And even if we make mistakes, we always have the choice to learn from it and and be kind to ourselves. Time to wake up now.

Follow-on Activity - Draw & write about your favourite part of the story In this activity the kids reflect on what happened in the story and draw a scene of the part that they liked best. If possible, they can also write a few sentences about their favourite part explaining what happened and why they liked it.
EV
Give out copies of the worksheet along with pencils and colouring pencils. Spend 10-15 minutes at the end of class completing the sheet or the children can take it home to complete.
PR
This activity offers a literacy and imagination challenge. It helps the children think critically and notice what grabbed their attention the most.
