Pedro the Penguin Goes to the Fun Fair - Story Script
W
Today we are taking our friend Pedro the Penguin to the fun fair for his first ever visit! Let’s start by making ourselves a healthy packed lunch. Legs out long, bending our knees a little so we can touch our toes and lifting our arms to open our lunch box. Ooooop. Now taking our arms wide, we twist one way for some sandwiches. We wrap them up and fold forward to put them in. Now we twist the other way to get Pedro’s sandwich. Let’s get him a fish sandwich! He LOVES fish sandwiches! We wrap it up and fold forward to put it in! There! Now we bend our knees a little, reach up high, then fold all the way forward to touch our toes and close our lunch box. Oooop!
IE
“Eating a healthy lunch will keep us feeling good all day long!“
EV
At the train station, waiting for us is Pedro the Penguin (penguin pose)! He waddles over with a big smile “Hola amigo! I can’t wait for our day at the fair!” We give him a big hug and jump on our train (group pose if you like)! Pull the horn - toot toot! And off we go! Clickety clack, clickety clack here we go around the track! Faster and faster and faster we go. Until we’re going very slow! Pull the horn again - toot toot! Here we are at the big golden gates of the fun fair. Coming into our gate pose. They open one way and close the other way behind us.
Great! Now we’re inside, Pedro can’t wait to go on the rides! “Look horses going around and around!” Pedro has spotted the Merry-go-round carousel! This will be fun! We climb onto a horse (horse pose) and off we go! It goes up and down - tucking our back toe we lift and lower our back knee! Let’s switch sides and go the other way too - horse pose on the other side, going up and down again! After that we skip with Pedro. Over to the twirly whirly Teacup ride (Washing machine pose). Afterwards we feel quite dizzy so we show Pedro how to rub our hands and cup them over our eyes to help our brains get over all that spinning!
PR
“Cupping our eyes with warm hands is a quick way to feel calm and relaxed.”
That’s better! Now we feel calmer we spot a new place to explore - Jurassic Land! There’s a Jungle river cruise! We get into a boat on a river surrounded by trees and plants. Looking through our Cosminoculars we see a huge Dinosaur stomping along through the grass. And yikes over there we see a T-Rex doing a big roar like a lion!
W
After our close call with the T-Rex we say goodbye to Jurassic Land and head for the Roller Coaster. This looks fun! We sit one behind the other with our legs wide, then we lean back as we climb the steep hill. We whoosh forward with our body as we zoom downhill. We sweep over to one side, going round the bend, then the other side, up again, then down, side to side before coming to a stop. Phew! That was fast. Poor Pedro has a bit of a tummy ache after the roller coaster, so we show him how to do twists on his back to help his tummy feel better.
“When we feel an ache in our body, if we stay calm, and move gently we can usually help ourselves feel better.”
IE
Before we hit the rides again Pedro spots the coconut shy! “If you knock a coconut off the post, you win a goldfish! I LOVE goldfish!” Uh oh! Pedro doesn’t just LOVE goldfish he also LOVES TO EAT goldfish! Lucky we brought that fish sandwich along to give him for lunch! Pedro can’t wait to play! The coconuts balance on their stands (egg pose). We throw the ball and it sends the coconut rolling onto the ground! Yay we did it! We won the goldfish! Fish pose. But Pedro has only one thought on winning the goldfish! “Mmm. LUNCH!”
EV
But before he has the chance to gobble up the fish, we sit down on a bench (chair pose or partner pose Invisible Bench) with Pedro and take out the fish sandwich we packed earlier in our packed lunch! He’s delighted and rubs a flipper on his tummy and pats his head at the same time! “Mmmmm! Delicious!” Now the goldfish is safe, we decide to call him Bob! Now we’re ready for the rides again. Pedro carries Bob the Goldfish in a clear plastic bag and we all head to Treasure Falls - the log ride! We might get a bit wet on this one, so look out! Pedro and Bob don’t seem to mind! From a kneeling position, we sweep our arms up and over our heads - coming high onto our knees. Then we swoosh down into mouse pose as we splash into the water! Splodoosh! (I like to spray the children with a water spray/mister as they splash down in mouse pose.)
PR
Let’s go again! (Repeat the kneeling lift and the swoosh down as many times as you like - with the water spray the kids will love repeating it over and over again!) This time when we sit up we see that Pedro and Bob are no longer in our log raft! Where did they go?! We twist one way like a mermaid to look, then the other way, then we look over the front (coming to hands and knees) and see Pedro and Bob whizzing down the big slide ahead on their tummies having a great time. Weeeee. Pedro even holds onto his feet with his flippers (bowl pose)! We whoosh down after them to catch up! When we get to the bottom we see that Bob the Goldfish is much happier out of his bag and in the water – so we say Namaste to say goodbye!
And we’re ready to go home now too. Pedro is yawning and stretching and clearly ready for a snooze. Look up in the sky – it’s a hot air balloon coming to take us home! In we get, one foot at a time (flamingo pose). We sit with legs crossed and blow up our hot air balloon. We float all the way home, saying tick tock like a clock until I find my centre. Pedro is staying over with us so when we get home we tiptoe inside and get into our beds. Pedro has a little bed on the floor beside us.
Relaxation
W
We lie back, taking a moment to rest. We think about all the fun we’ve had today. All the rides, the excitement and the new things for Pedro. We looked after ourselves and Pedro today. We were responsible. We made sure we had a lovely healthy lunch. And we used our yoga to feel better - when we got dizzy and when Pedro had a tummy ache. After a busy and exciting day it’s important to balance it with rest - a sound and peaceful sleep. Listen to the little noises around you. Enjoy being still.
Follow on Activity - Colouring & Labeling Pedro
IE
Print and handout copies of the following printable Pedro the Penguin activity along with pencils and colouring pencils.
Ask the kids to write the correct names of each body part in the boxes to label Pedro’s body, then colour him in how they wish.

Identifying anatomy and learning what different body parts are called is a good learning exercise. Followed by the colouring, we have a peaceful and calming end to the session.
