Frank the Frog Kids Yoga Class Plan We travel to the rainforest for a special Olympic Games. We meet Frank the Frog and learn how to SUPPORT OTHERS and what being a FRIEND means. When we take part in competitions it’s always nice to win, but we also learn a lot when we lose - so either way, winning or losing, we can find something positive. May the games begin!

Frank the Frog - Story Script

W

Today we’re off to a special Olympic games in the amazon rainforest. We’ll be meeting our friend Frank! Who is a Frog! We’ve got a big old journey ahead of us so let’s start by packing a bag with everything we need for the rainforest – twisting to each side to get waterproofs, hat, sun cream (ask the children for their suggestions). Now we hug everyone at home to say goodbye. We open the door, and make sure to close it behind us. We hop on our bikes and cycle to the airport. Then we catch a plane. Neeeoooow round one side of the world, and neeeooow around the other all the way to the Amazon rainforest. When we get there we find there’s a rainstorm happening! (pitter patter raining).

IE

We stand up, to look through our binoculars for a sign to the Olympic swamp where Frank is. But we can’t see through the trees! So we climb up a tree to get a better view! “Up we go, up we go, up we, up we, up we go!” These are very tall strong trees (tree pose) Now I wonder how strong you are!… I wonder if I can make you fall down with a big huffy puffy blow? Ready? You stay tall and strong and I’ll come and have a go! Wfffffffff! Wow! You are super duper strong! What amazing trees you are!

EV

We’re not quite high enough so let’s climb a bit higher up the tree. Now we stand still again being a tree (tree pose other side). Careful not to wobble as we’re right at the top. Here in the tree we meet a monkey who does a big jump in the air. He’s very excited to meet us and tried to point us in the direction of the Olympic swamp! First he lifts and points with his toe! Mmm?! Then he points at his toe with his finger! Errr?! He points his other finger at the sky! Uhhhh?! Finally he sticks out his tongue which he points towards his finger in the sky! Whhhatt?! He is one confused monkey! He tries again doing exactly the same moves but on the other side (confused monkey other side). We smile politely, say Namaste, then jump down! Uh oh! At the bottom of the tree is a crocodile. Let’s stay very still everyone! Quick! Let’s hide! Curling up in mouse pose so we’re a tiny little ball. All of a sudden we hear a funny noise (snore in mouse pose). It’s coming from the crocodile! We sit up, kneeling and realize…. the crocodile is asleep!

PR

Quiet as a mouse we stand up super quietly and tiptoe, quickly away! Phew! Now we take big steps through the jungle undergrowth and we find ourselves at the edge of a river. There’s a little boat here for us! We hop in and begin to row (rowing one side) singing our row row your boat song! We seem to have rowed round in a circle, so let’s row with the other oar now to get back on track! (Rowing other side).

Up pops a fish to say hello! He tells us we need to hurry as the games are about to begin. He offer to give us a pull to get us there quicker… and my goodness is he good at pulling! We feel like we’re water ski-ing, (chair pose bouncing with arms stretched forwards). Then it’s like surfing, (step one foot back and release one arm back). Back to the water ski-ing again (chair pose bouncing with arms stretched forwards)! Then more surfing this time on the other side WoooHoooo! © Cosmic Kids 2018

W

Look out! There’s a big waterfall (candle pose) up ahead! But before we have a chance to tell the fish to stop, we go whooshing (rock and roll) down it. We land with a splash at the bottom and sit up with our legs crossed. When we surface, we hear lots of croaking and ribbiting… It’s lots of frogs and they’re singing to celebrate the start of the games! Let’s sit in a big circle with legs crossed, holding hands with our neighbours. We rock side to side singing “Ribbit, ribbit, ribbit ribbit… Side by side, hand in hand, we all stand together!” (the last part and tune is taken from the song We All Stand Together by Paul McCartney & the Frog Chorus - have a listen/look on YouTube to get familiar with it! See if you can all stand together, holding hands as you sing the word ‘stand’.)

By supporting each other, we help each other and ALL benefit!!

IE

Here comes Frank the Frog (frog pose)! Ribbit, ribbit!” He hops (frog jumps) over to us and he says “Just in time, my friend! Let the games begin!” First we go to the diving pool, where we see the most amazing freshwater dolphins diving, jumping and splashing! We cheer (kneeling) them on with Frank. “Go Dolphins!” Our cheers and whoops make the dolphins jump even higher! (Dolphin pose with knees lifted).

EV

Next we go to the rock stadium where we see the river rock crabs playing football. All sorts of clever kicks and tricks, scuttling side to side. We cheer them on (kneeling) with Frank “Go Crabs!” They show how much they love the support by spinning round in a circle (rotate in crab pose)! Onwards now to the jungle jump. There’s a long line of grasshoppers (dragonfly pose) all happily flinging themselves over a very high bar! Doin-oi-oi-oi-oing! We give a huge cheer (kneeling)… “Go grasshoppers!” and they leap even higher (dragonfly using other leg)…weeeee!

When we feel supported and our friends cheer us on, we often do Remember to cheer your friends on!

better.

PR

Frank ribbits to tell us it’s time for his event… the Lilypad leaps. It’s like the hurdles but with lilypads instead! He’ll be racing and leaping from one lilypad to the next all the way down the river and will need our cheers to help him along. There’s a super fast frog in the race with him called Blue Frog Bolt (bolt pose). The fastest frog in the world! First we help Frank warm up with some special froggy hops (bunny hops) that we’ve been practicing. Then some big strong froggy breaths (dragon fire breaths) to make his body feel stronger from the inside.

It’s good to warm up our bodies when we’re going to run a race or physically challenging.

do anything

It’s time. Frank gets on his starting pad, into position (beep beep - low lunge), ready to take the leap. Looking down the line of the other frogs racing, they all look pretty focused and strong too. Blue Frog Bolt is pulling silly faces at the crowd...he seems very confident about this race! © Cosmic Kids 2018

W

The starting parrot takes his position and with his big beak, squawks (tweety bird with squawky parrot voice), “on your pads, get set, LEAP!” (Repeat bunny hops or frog leaps on the spot or set out yoga mats in a circle to be the lilypad race track. Have the children leap either bunny hopping or frog jumping from one mat to the next all the way round until they get back to their spot.) It’s a really tight race, and Blue Frog Bolt is catching up with Frank. But all of a sudden the little blue frog misses his footing and falls off his lilypad (happy baby pose). His leg looks to be hurt! Frank wastes no time diving in (stand tall, forward fold to ragdoll and jump back to lower down onto our belly) Forgetting the race, Frank tries to save Blue Frog Bolt! The crowd sits completely still and falls silent.

Friends look after each other at all times

IE

For a few seconds everyone holds their breath as they wait to see whether Frank and Blue Frog Bolt will surface. All of a sudden, we see bubbles (whale pose) on the water - bubble bubble bubble pop! Then we see Blue Frog Bolt, with Frank right beneath him. Frank carries Blue Frog Bolt on his back (seal pose). He swims (swimming pose) with him on his back to the nearest lilypad to safety. He saved his life! Poor Blue Frog Bolt’s leg is broken, so he couldn’t swim. The crowd gives a huge cheer. Frank is a hero! (Hero Pose)

Relaxation

EV

It’s time for us to go home and the night sky is lit up with fireflies buzzing (candle pose). One flutters down to us and says “Taxi?”. Oh yes please! Nice to get home on a firefly! We lie ourselves back on the warm and fuzzy firefly and enjoy some well earned rest time as our friendly firefly taxi takes us home.

PR

As we soar into the sky, our firefly feels warm and soft beneath us like a comfy bed, so we relax and snuggle up into the fuzzy fur. We take some slow, easy breaths. What an amazing adventure with Frank. He taught us that sometimes it is more important to stand by someone who needs you rather than only thinking of yourself. And if you can cheer someone on and give encouraging words you can lift someone up and help them. Let’s rest and take ten special counts to think how good it feels just to lie here and relax our body. Now let’s wiggle our fingers and wiggle our toes and slowly bring ourselves up to sitting. (Once everyone is up it’s fun to repeat the group frog chorus – sitting cross legged in a circle, holding hands and rocking - “Side by side, hand in hand, we all stand together.”)

Follow-on Activity (Drawing the Frog’s face - overleaf) Print out the frog face grid template overleaf and handout to the children with pencils. The idea is to use the grid as a guide to draw the symmetrical other side of the frogs face. Once everyone is happy they’ve done it, hand out pots of colouring pencils to add some colour! By focusing on each grid, the drawing becomes much easier to complete - great for kids to learn how break down a task into smaller, manageable chunks!
