Spartz-24 Robodog Kids Yoga Class Plan We travel in time to the future to meet a robot dog called Spartz-24. He teaches us that we need to LISTEN TO OUR BODIES to learn when we need to relax or energise. A story about SELF-REGULATION and being in tune with our body. It’s fun to hear how children imagine the future, so allow time to chat and visualise this at the end.Have fun!

Spartz-24, Robodog - Story Script

IE

W

Today our adventure takes us into the future by one hundred years! So we need to go in a time machine! We’re off to meet a special dog called Spartz-24. Now Spartz-24 is no ordinary dog…he’s a robo-dog! It’ll be a bit squashed in the time machine, so let’s get our shoulders warmed up with some lovely rolls (sing the ‘roll your shoulders’ song as you roll!) Now our head and neck - looking over one shoulder and over the other shoulder. And again! Now tilt your head over one way - like your ear is going to touch your shoulder with a ‘tick’! And tilt it the other way - with a tock. Let’s do that a few times too. Finally we roll our head all the way round one way and then all the way round the other. Let’s get our sides ready by reaching up and over with our arm and playing a tinkly piano on our ribs! And over to the other side too! Let’s go. We open the door ooopp and close the door behind us (other side). Our time machine is a big round bubble (hot air balloon) crossing our legs, cup your hands at your mouth we blow our bubble time machine up nice and big. Wow! Let’s get in. On our hands and knees we crawl in reaching one arm, two arms, one leg, two legs.

EV

We sit up nice and tall with our legs outstretched (sandwich pose) and reach forward, maybe bending our knees a little to pop on all the lights and beepers (twiddle all toes) “beep, boop, biip, baap, buup.” Setting the timer for one hundred years ahead in the future. We’re ready for take off. We bend our knees, put our feet flat on the ground with our hands behind our bottoms in take-off position (bridge pose, hips down). Countdown begins! Lifting up your hips with each count as we count down from “5,4,3,2,1. Blast off.” We hug our knees into our chest, tuck our chin like we’re squashing a tomato under it and we rock and roll as our time machine zooms off. We lie on our backs with our legs in the air (candle pose). Our knees bend as we twist from one side to the other (supine twists). Flying forwards in time.

PR

We hear a little announcement - ‘One hundred years complete. Prepare for landing.’ Time to get into our landing position. On our knees tucking forward into a tiny little landing ball (mouse pose). Keeping very still 3,2,1. “GGGGuwww” (Spaceship coming into land sound). We sit up and stretch. What a ride that was. Coming forward we wriggle out of the spaceship on our tummies like a snake then tuck our toes, lift our bottom up (dog pose) and walk our feet forward to our hands (ragdoll pose), then roll all the way up to stand. Wow it’s bright. We sit down, crossing our legs and put on our eye protectors (binoculars). We hear a funny humming sound, hands together at your heart, close your eyes and say OMMMMMM. Opening our eyes we see It’s Spartz-24. Yay! Dog pose. Woof woof woof! He does a spin (in dog pose) then bows (puppy pose) coming down onto your knees and leaving your arms outstretched to say Hello! He has two tails! He wags one, coming to all fours and lifting one leg to wag and do a happy robo-dog pant with his tongue sticking out! Then the other tail, lifting the other leg and panting.

Spartz-24 has a green television screen on his tummy, rubbing our tummies with one hand and patting our heads with the other. He says “When my tummy turns from green to red, my batteries are running low. I need your help to find which part has gone to sleep to get myself switched back on again so I will work properly.”

W

Can you tell when you feel tired? What helps you refresh and feel energised again?

He also says we will hear a funny sound as an extra warning! BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP! Or NEE NAA NEE NAA (Demo your chosen sound effect now!)

EV

IE

Great! Now we know about Spartz-24 and his battery warning, we can go and explore the future with him! We hop into a flying car (yoga train/roller coaster - if you’re in a class you can do this as a group pose with one child sitting behind the other or with the children individually on their mats). Sitting with our legs out wide we take a city tour. Wow it’s so cool as we whizz round one side, then the other side. We head uphill, leaning all the way back, and downhill, leaning forward from the waist.] Time to hop out - so let’s stand up! Wow! All around we see tall buildings (house pose) with pointy glass roofs. And lots of rivers with little bridges to cross. In the rivers are fish, and they all have lightbeams on their heads! Skimming the water are amazing dragonflies who clean any pollution away.

PR

Then we hear the funny noise! BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP! (Or NEE NAA NEE NAA) Uh oh! It’s Spartz-24… His tummy has turned from green to red which means something has switched off. He is as still as a dog statue. Let’s do our check! Is it his back paws? Sit on our bottoms, lift up our feet and twizzle our ankles side to side (boat pose variation with hands down). Nope! They still twist and turn. Is it his front paws? Now lifting our hands up too (boat pose variation with hands up)! Twizzle twizzle. Nope! They still twist and turn too. Could it be his eyes? Let’s try our eye exercises. Crossing our legs, stick out our thumb keeping our head still, let’s follow with our eyes as we move our thumb up and down and side to side. Nope… eyes are fine too! Perhaps it’s his shoulders? Can we lift one shoulder, and the other shoulder, go down with the first shoulder and the second shoulder. Going up, up, down, down… Well they seem to work. Maybe it’s his ears? Let’s lean forward on all fours and say “Hello… Spartz-24?” – Nothing! Ah ha! IT MUST BE HIS EARS. We switch on his special ear switch (rub ears) and all of a sudden he can hear again. Phew! In his dog pose Spartz-24 spins round (from dog pose) and bows (puppy pose) to say a happy Robodog thank you!

you can notice Listening is a skill and we have to practice to get better at it. See if when you stop listening and try and switch it back on again.

We’re quite peckish now and Spartz-24 leads us to the yum yum telephone. We pick up the receiver and dial the yum yum number. Beep boop beep, boop beep! Spartz-24 tells us to say what we’d like, but make sure we say PLEASE. “Oh hello, I’d like a strawberry yoghurt please? Coming right up!” (Go round and ask the children for their suggestions.) Now we have to put that telephone down and lift the other one up when it rings. Spartz-24 says we have to say THANKYOU and then we get our food! “Ring, ring, ring, ring.” Let’s answer it and see. “Thank you!” Mmmmmm. Wow! That was YUMMY. © Cosmic Kids 2018

We’re nice and full now, but once again we hear the funny noise from Spartz-24! BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP! (Or NEE NAA NEE NAA)

IE

W

Uh oh! Spartz-24’s tummy has turned red again! Which means something has switched off. We do our special check again. Is it his back paws (boat pose variation feet lifted, hands down)? Sitting on our bottom, lift up our feet and yes, they still twist and turn… Is it his front paws? Can we up our hands now. No they still twist and turn. Is it his ears? Coming on to all fours we say Hello… Spartz-24? “Woof woof.” We know his ears are on. Is it his shoulders? No they still go up, up, down, down… Is it his eyes? – Let’s check with our exercise. Going side, to side, hang on… Yes. His eyes aren’t moving. Let’s flick the switches on blinking our eyelids up and down 5 times very slowly. Yes! Now he can see again. Phew! He spins (in down dog) and bows (puppy pose) with arms and hands outstretched and a happy Robodog Thank you pant!

It’s helpful to check in with our body to make sure everything is worki and feeling good

Relaxation

EV

Spartz-24 suggests we head for the relaxation pods as it’s clearly time to recharge the batteries. It would also be good for our bodies and minds too so we find ourselves a lovely comfy pod to settle into and let the relaxation pod work it’s re-charging magic. Plugging in our feet one at a time, then our hands and finally the back of our heads. We’ve learnt from Spartz-24 that we need to listen to our bodies and give them what they need to make sure everything is working properly. Sometimes this might mean we have to switch things back on, that have accidentally switched off… especially things like our ears when we need to listen. Let’s bring ourselves back now, wiggling our fingers and twinkling our toes. We stretch up long and thin like spaghetti and lift our knees to our chest. Rolling over to our sides, we come up to sitting with our hands together at our hearts.

Follow-on Activity - Drawing a picture of the future

PR

Overleaf is an image of ‘the future’! It’s fascinating to wonder what our landscapes, buildings and transport will look like in a 100 years! Show the children the image and handout plain pieces of paper with pencils and colouring pencils for them to use. Ask them to draw their vision of the future. What would their city or town look like one hundred years from now?
