ITV’s hit entertainment show Britain’s Got Talent has returned for a fifth year following the success of the last series, which saw gymnastics troupe Spelbound crowned the 2010 winners.
The twenty most entertaining acts will go on to perform for the Britain’s Got Talent judges at the YouTube online audition round, but do they have the talent to win a place at this year’s live semi finals?
Hosted by Ant and Dec, this series sees comedian Michael McIntyre and actor and television personality David Hasselhoff join Amanda Holden on a new-look judging panel. The judges have hit the road and traveled the length and breadth of the UK in search of Britain’s best talent.
As ever, the only rule is that there are no rules! From dance troupes to acrobats, magicians to comedians and dancing horses to singing dogs, the show is open to any performer of any age, from any background, with any talent. All they need is a skill and star quality which they think will impress the judges.
This year they also visited the city of Liverpool for the first time. Simon Cowell will returned to Britain’s Got Talent as a judge for the live stage of the competition. New judges, a new city and in an exciting first for Britain’s Got Talent, this series will also see a brand new online audition round. For the first time ever, contestants can enter the competition by uploading videos of their act via video-sharing network YouTube.

be in the finals and surprisingly a fantastic dog act and some very funny comedians. And the worst? A man who did impersonations of trucks. I think he was run over last week while doing a truck sound..... because someone really thought he was a truck.
Had you met Michael or Amanda before? Yes I had met Amanda before, briefly, and I knew of Michael’s reputation as the number one comedian in the country. How have the three of you got on? Lots of fun.... lots of respect and sometimes complete and utter chaos with us not agreeing! How have you found the British talent? I find that the talent so far is brilliant, some of the young people especially, and we’ve seen some very funny comedians. I have also enjoyed some of the wackiest acts on the planet! What do you love most about Britain? The heart-warming and kind people that I’ve met in every city that I’ve visited and the full English breakfast and Liverpool girls. If you were to enter Britain’s Got Talent, what would your act be? My act would be a dancing willy! No, no, no .....just kidding! Running in slow motion! Without giving too much away, what have been some of the best acts during the auditions? The young acts are without a doubt going to

We are friends first and it will be fun sparring with him on a live show because we are such good friends. It will be fun having him on. What kind of act would you like to see win this year? That is a secret.

singing children this year, so that will be quite a competitive area. The illusionists have been great too, some of which we really hope make the semi-finals.
What do you think of the new line up on the judging panel? Ant: It’s fresh and different! The new judging line up has allowed some acts a look in that would never have gotten the chance before.
Ant: There hasn’t been so many dance troupes this year, as we think Diversity set the bar so high before. There were a lot of Glee inspired acts though, groups singing and dancing, but not all of them were that great!
Dec: Acts like comics and magicians have been taken more seriously this year. There was a really great vibe on audition days and a general feeling of excitement!
And the worst? Ant: That’s difficult to say, as even the ones that are bad you have a laugh with and we want them to carry on with their act.
Which of the new judges surprised you the most? Ant: David Hasselhoff. He’s been a great judge from day one and has all that experience from America’s Got Talent, which he’s been able to bring over to the UK.
Dec: We’re there to give everyone a chance and to encourage them, although some needed more rehearsal than others. We love all the contestants, the good, the bad and the ugly!
Dec: We weren’t sure what to expect, but he was constructive and gave really good criticism to the younger acts. He gave out the best advice.
You went to Liverpool for the first time this year, how was the talent there? Ant: Liverpool was great. It was just like when we went to Newcastle last year, lots of fun, and because we don’t go every year the audience was really excited.
What do you think of the talent this year? Ant: We had a real feeling of variety this year because of the new judges.
Dec: We found lots of talent in Liverpool, so it was definitely worth going there.
Dec: Variety is great for Britain’s For Talent as that’s what the show is all about. We’ve had lots more pole dancers, dog acts, comics and magicians this year. Without giving too much away, what have been some of the best acts during the auditions? Dec: There’s been lots of very talented
What kind of act would you like to see win this year? Ant: I’d love a comedian to win this year, that would be fantastic. Dec: Or a magician. We’d like to see a really fun variety act win that can go to Vegas and perform a sell out residency there.

Michael McIntyre Q&A How are you finding your new job as a Judge on BGT? I’m loving my new job. I’ve watched every series of BGT and am a huge fan of the show. To be part of it has been surreal and amazing. What most appealed to you about the role? I’ve been performing stand-up comedy for 10 years, it’s what I love and will always do. I had no plans to do anything else, but BGT is like a national event so I leapt at the chance to be part of it. Had you met David or Amanda before? I had met Amanda a couple of times before at showbiz events and I met David when he saved me from drowning on holiday in Gran Canaria. How have the three of you got on? We had such a laugh during the auditions. I can honestly say it’s the most fun I’ve had at work. What has been the most shocking/ surprising thing you’ve learnt about British eccentricities? Eccentric acts are what have made BGT wonderful over the years. Stavros Flatley were probably my favourite. This series has so many acts that were quirky and unexpected that the audience and judges loved and we weren’t even sure why.
Without giving too much away, what have been some of the best acts during the auditions? BGT is all about discovering real talent. It’s about those moments when an unknown person takes to the stage and changes their life in the space of a few minutes. There were several of those life-changing auditions and any of them could win. Witnessing those auditions at first hand was so wonderful, so powerful, so emotional and uplifting. They make the show what it is and I can’t wait to see them on TV. And the worst? There were acts that were so bad they were hilarious. My favourite is probably these two tiny dogs who looked identical and both had to complete an assault course. One of them got everything right and the other one got everything wrong, I was crying with laughter.
