Paul Casey, Retief Goosen, Camilo Villegas and Robert Allenby have confirmed that they will play in the Volvo World Match Play Championship finishing as the highest ranked available players from their regions; Europe, Africa & Middle East, South America and Australasia respectively. The players have qualified via the all new qualifying criteria, part of Volvo’s innovative ‘new look’ match play. Paul Casey, World Number 3 and winner of the 2006 World Match Play Championship, is delighted to have secured his place, explaining “I thoroughly enjoy match play and winning in 2006 was definitely one of my career highlights so I am delighted to qualify for this year’s Volvo World Match Play Championship. One thing I noticed when I won the World Match Play was the number of great players who made it their business to win the title at least twice. Seve Ballesteros, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman and Nick Faldo have all got their name on the Champions roster at least a couple of times so I will definitely be hoping to emulate them by winning again this year.”
Casey continued, “The Volvo World Match Play Championship is shaping up to have a great field and it will be a huge boost to my confidence as well as my Race to Dubai Rankings to put in a strong performance.”
Two time US Open Champion Retief Goosen from South Africa, the leading player on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) at the cut-off point following the USPGA

Championship from Africa & Middle East, explained, “I have been following my position on the qualification table over the past few months and have been very aware of what I needed to do to hang on to my place. I am delighted to have made it into this prestigious tournament and am really looking forward to playing in the Volvo World Match Play Championship. I am intrigued to play on the Finca Cortesin course and I think the new ‘champions league-style’ format will make for a really exciting inaugural event in Spain”.
Colombian superstar Camilo Villegas, who qualified as the leading South American player on the OWGR will be playing in his first World Match Play Championship, is similarly enthusiastic; “I really enjoy the cut and thrust of match play, “ explained Camilo who has quickly become Colombia’s No.1 sports pin up. “It is very important to have secured a place in the Volvo World Match Play Championship as it is a limited field and very close the conclusion of the Race to Dubai so I think the winner there will have a great advantage going into the Dubai World Championship. It would be great if I get to play against my good friend Sergio Garcia – I think we would have a very exciting match though I’m not sure I will have too many supporters in the gallery!” World Number 30, Australian Robert Allenby added, ““I am thrilled to have qualified for the Volvo World Match Play Championship. It’s a world class event with a terrific heritage and

The Championship is being held at an exciting new venue; Finca Cortesin Golf Resort, October 29th to November 1st, 2009 and the 16 man field will now compete in a ‘round robin’ group format until the semi final stage as opposed to the traditional knock out format of the previous 44 editions of the tournament.
Sergio Garcia remains determined to secure his place in the field and has set his sights on qualifying through his world ranking on the 28th September.
Garcia explained, “As I have said before, I am very keen to win my place in the draw. I am hoping I will have a few good weeks and make it into the field on my world ranking position. I thoroughly enjoy match play and the group format makes the tournament unique and of course, I am always proud to play in front of my home fans. ”
This is the 45th edition of the World Match Play Championship will be Volvo’s first as title sponsor, having hosted the 21st and final Volvo Masters at Club de Golf Valderrama in 2008. The Finca Cortesín event is Volvo’s 120th title sponsorship in professional golf.
The Championship will be held in Spain for the first time in its history moving from Wentworth Club as 16 of the world’s best players go headto-head in classic match play golf over the magnificent 7,439-yard course at Finca Cortesin designed by Cabell B Robinson.
The winner of each group will qualify for the semi finals which, along with the final, will be played over 36 holes in traditional and compelling head-to head-match play golf, considered by many to be the purest form of the Royal and Ancient game.
The other two continental qualifiers will be announced shortly. Impressive European finishes at the USPGA Championship from Lee Westwood and McIllroy at tied third and Martin Kaymer and Henrik Stenson finishing at tied six has done much to strengthen their claims on a coveted position in the line up via both their positions on the Official World Ranking and through their places on the Race to Dubai Rankings. The cut off for the leading four players not otherwise qualified on the World Ranking is 28th September and for the Race to Dubai is the 5th October.
The Official World Golf Ranking and The Race to Dubai will be used as the qualification mechanisms to identify the final eight protagonists for the world’s longest-running and most evocative World Match Play Championship with the final line-up known on Monday 5th October 2009; along with leading players from the continents of Europe, Africa/Middle East, North America, South America, Asia and Australasia, the defending Champion and winner of the 2009 Volvo China Open are all eligible to play. With a total prize fund of €3.25 million, and a first prize of €750,000, a place in the Volvo World Match Play Championship could significantly enhance a player’s position on the ‘Race to Dubai’, with all 16 players chasing a place in the end-ofseason showpiece.

Gourmet Guide
Eating out in Andalucia, Spain Spain is an excellent destination for those who are truly interested in good food. In Andalucía the emphasis is on the freshest of ingredients, simply prepared so that the quality can be really appreciated. The Mediterranean diet, with its emphasis on fresh fruit and vegetables, exquisite seafood and extra-virgin olive oil is one of the healthiest in the world.
The
Costa D In addition, what really makes eating out in Spain different from anywhere else is the sheer enjoyment and informality that prevails in the restaurants and bars. Here you will find no hushed silences or pretentious surroundings, just family and friends enjoying each others’ company. What we particularly appreciate is that children are welcome everywhere, even in the smartest of restaurants. The staff are always happy to prepare something special for their youngest guests. Spanish children stay up as late as their parents, particularly in the summer, and they learn to appreciate good food at an early age. Everyone is familiar with paella, that classic of Spanish cooking, but properly made with Spanish short-grain rice, saffron, and the freshest of seafood it is an unforgettable experience. Gazpacho is also well known, but have you tried the Antequeran “porra”, a thicker type of Gazpacho with Serrano ham?
Moorish spices are heavily used in Spanish cooking - a reminder of Spain’s Arab past - and they add a delicious but subtle touch to meat dishes, from “pinchitos” (small kebabs) to casseroles. Most meat is simply prepared on the grill or barbecue, flavoured only with olive oil and garlic. A favourite with children is always “pollo al ajillo” - tiny pieces of chicken cooked with lots of garlic and olive oil with bread to soak up the juices.
It would take more space than we have to describe the variety of fish and seafood available in Spanish restaurants. The city of Malaga in particular is famous for its delicious fried fish. Choose the `fritura malagueña’ for a variety of fried fresh fish. Most frequently encountered is hake (“merluza”) served fried or grilled or cooked with clams, garlic and parsley. Depending on what has been caught that day you will also find sole, cod, sea bass, bream and many others whose names you cannot translate! Two favourites with children are small pieces of “Rosada “(a firm white fish) crisply fried in a light batter and served with Ali- oli, a very garlicky mayonnaise and “Cazón en Adobo” ( a kind of shark!) cut into small pieces and marinated before being fried. You will not find buttery or creamy sauces often as generally the Spanish believe that the flavour of truly fresh fish should not be obscured! Seafood aficionados will find prawns of every size from tiny to gigantic, together with langoustines, crayfish and lobster.
Meet • Eat • Drink • Be Entertained
Most visitors arrive determined to sample the many tapas available in the bars and restaurants. One notable thing about the tapas in more Spanish areas is that they are included in the price of your drink, something which has all but vanished in resorts with many foreign visitors. Tapas can be either hot or cold. The choice of cold tapas will often include a piece of delicious manchego cheese or Serrano ham, a tiny plate of seafood salad or some “pipirrana”- a refreshing salad made with finely diced peppers and tomatoes and of course a piece of the famous Spanish omelette.
But most memorable are the hot tapas. It could be a tiny piece of fried fish served with some perfectly dressed salad leaves, or a couple of grilled prawns or fried fresh anchovies. All kinds of little sausages are served as tapas, notably the spicy “chorizo” and “morcilla” ( a kind of black pudding). You might also try a miniature casserole of pork cooked in a fresh tomato sauce or with Moorish spices and served in a tiny earthenware dish. Small pieces of steak also feature as tapas, either served on their own or inside tiny buns. One or two meatballs or chicken wings are also popular with children. This is only a fraction of the tapas available as every bar has its own unique specialities and at some, particularly in Antequera, you can choose from more than 20 different tapas!

Don Bacardi’s Cocktails Bacardi rum, the vital ingredient for many summer cocktails, was created a century and a half ago by Don Facundo Bacardi Masso. Though he might sound like a mafia godfather, he was actually a humble Cuban immigrant.
Cos When Don Facundo started making his intoxicating liquor, rum was a cheap and pretty nasty drink. After experimenting with several techniques to tame rum, he hit upon an idea to filter the rum through charcoal to remove impurities. He also aged the rum in oak barrels, which had a mellowing effect.
In the early days, Bacardi rum was bottled by hand. Don Facundo and his brother Jose began production in a tin-roofed distillery where customers brought their own containers to be filled. The first batches of Bacardi rum moved from cask to bottle slowly through funnels and hoses. The distillery was home to a number of fruit bats, which later became the famous Bacardi logo. The famous mojito, made with Bacardi, fresh mint leaves and lime

Hemingway Daiquiri
Bacardi’s home of Cuba endured the Cuban War of Independence from Spain and the subsequent 20-year US occupation after the 1890s. As a direct result of the war, the famous Cuba Libre cocktail was born. Bacardi made a monumental move from its home in Cuba to Puerto Rico after Fidel Castro came into power 1959. Today, their headquarters is in Bermuda but the main distillery is still located in Puerto Rico.
The famous writer Ernest Hemingway was partly responsible for adding mystique to this cocktail. Hemingway was said to drink six daiquiris on an ordinary day and 12 doubles when he wanted to get drunk. Add 35ml (50ml for a double) of Bacardi to the juice of two limes and the juice of half a grapefruit. Pour over crushed ice and top with 5ml of Maraschino liqueur without stirring.
sta DiDespite its expansion into a successful international corporation, Bacardi is still made with the same secret recipe concocted 140 years ago. It is now the world’s largest privately held, familyowned spirit, selling in excess of 240 million bottles per year in 170 countries.
www.thecostadirectory.com
Here are three of the world’s most popular Bacardi-based cocktails:
Cuba Libre
To all intents and purposes, the Cuba Libre is simply a rum and coke. It was born in Cuba as the country fought to sever ties with Spain. The first Cuba Libre is said to have been mixed in a bar in Havana in 1900 at the request of a group of US soldiers. They toasted to Cuba’s freedom, por Cuba libre! Add 50ml of Bacardi to 150ml of coke. Simply add ice and squeeze in a wedge of lime.
Sweeter, fruitier daiquiris now come in many flavours.
Mojito Strangely, the history of the mojito is often traced back to the piracy days of the British Empire. Sir Francis Drake’s subordinate, Richard Drake, is said to have invented a medicinal cocktail called Draque made from an early version of white rum called aguardiente, sugar, lime and mint. Centuries later, Bacardi became the mojito’s essential ingredient. Lightly crush fresh mint leaves and lime slices together and cover with syrup or sugar and fill the glass with ice. Add 35ml (50ml for a double) of Bacardi rum and top up with soda water. Stir well and garnish with a lime wedge and a spring of mint.

The
Costa D Remember back in 2002, when ‘Pop Idol’ and reality TV were essential and new and not the monotonous madness it is today? Neither do I. However, the talent contest that was ‘Popstars - The Rivals’ provided a quality of television that had not been seen before. Thousands of hopefuls entered the show and some proved to have raw talent and some, made us cringe with embarrassment. Thankfully, the ruthlessly
public how talent-less some of their acts were any longer. Actual singing talent was of the up-most importance. It had to be, when your manufacturing (sorry, finding!) a new girl band from and in front of the entire population of the UK, your fooling no-one, and it is them who is going to decide who they want to see marry footballers, possibly go into rehab and gamble their careers on Celebrity Big Brother.
brilliant judges knew what they were doing and from the myriad of the good, the bad, definitely the sad and the down-right ugly, five girls were seen to be a cut above the rest. For one, they are all astonishingly beautiful, but above all, they could sing. Record companies who churned out girl or boy bands like factory made mannequins, could not hide from the
Yes, it is not easy being a pop star anymore. Has it ever been? Britney’s fall from grace has seen her let her baby drive the car, forget to put her knickers on and shave her head. Although, I quite like her new look and she might too. Sinead O’Connor has had that look for years and before she decided to go mad and commit career suicide by ripping up a picture of the pope in

front of every catholic in America. These girls though, it has to be said, have handled the pressures of fame well their singles all made it to the top ten and they hold the Guinness World Record for Most Successful Reality TV Group. The eponymous act are of course, Girls Aloud and thankfully none of them are in rehab just yet. Since they were formed, the girls have rarely been off our TV screens or out of the tabloids and ‘lad mags’ and all five were named in the ‘Top 100 Sexiest Women in the World’ by FHM IN 2006. Their meteoric rise to the dizzy heights of fame and celebrity has not been without tragedy, the occasional PR disaster and a bizarre plot to use Nadine’s flat as a coke-den; On Christmas day 2002, their road manager John McMahon was killed in a car crash and in
2003, Cheryl was arrested for an alleged assault on a washroom attendent in Guildford. Their record company, Polydor were quick to point out that the allegations of racist abuse were fabricated and Cheryl was released without charge, just in time to appear on TV with fellow Geordies, Ant and Dec. After their first tour, Girls Aloud began working on their third album, the platinum-selling ‘Chemistry’. The group were now an established act and a force to be reckoned with in the world of pop; they now had the same record of consecutive top ten hits as the Spice Girls. Cheryl had said previously that they hoped to emulate the Spice Girls success: “We would love to have the same success as the Spice

www.thecostadirectory.com Girls. They really made it. They paved the way for girl groups and I think it is our time now.” The girls also released two DVD’s, ‘Girls on Film’ and a DVD of their live tour of the album, ‘What will the neighbours say?’ and were also the subject of two televised documentaries, ‘Girls Aloud: Home Truths’, shown on ITV2 and ‘Girls Aloud: Off the Record’, shown on E4, which followed them as they prepared for their ‘Chemistry‘ tour. The show candidly showed the girls going about their demanding routines and delved into the girls’ high profile love-lives. In one episode, Sarah had a visit from one time lover Callum Best, in which he failed to charm his way out of explaining the un-gentlemanly comments he had made about her to a tabloid newspaper. The Snake. The astoundingly attractive Nadine caught the attentions of ‘Desperate Housewives’ star, Jesse Metcalfe and was gushing when their date in Sydney went well. The highlight of their televised escapades though, has to be their hilarious and foul-mouthed foray into the world of the paranormal, when they appeared on ‘Most Haunted - Ghost Hunting with Girls Aloud’.
The
What are your loves and hates? Cheryl: “I hate nasty people and crudeness and I love my clothes and make-up!” Sarah: “You’ll probably think I’m lying but I hate getting’ drunk! I love singing, obviously, eating and having fun!” Nicola: “I hate stuck up people and I love singing, dan-cing, shopping, going out, performing and having a rest” Nadine: “I like singing, cooking and mucking around and I hate cleaning” Kimberley: “I love shopping and eating out and I hate going to the gym!” What is your most embarrassing moment?
Costa D The programme saw Nicola, Cheryl, Kimberley and Sarah swear a lot and get spooked as they ventured into supposedly haunted locations. Nadine, flatly refused to take part stating that she would like to be able to get a good nights sleep again. This left the others to be fair game for the ghosts and ghouls (or the television crew!). The ‘Most Haunted’ team took the girls to various locations that had no lights or heating, including castles and old hospitals and filmed there expressions as the ‘ghosts’, who must be fans, touched them and moved things around. Nicola, was the first to leave every location but Sarah, Kimberley and Cheryl, not taking the whole thing to seriously, proved they were as no-nonsense with ghost hunting as they are with partying. Following ‘Most Haunted’, the girls have seen success with their greatest hits album, ‘The Sound of Girls Aloud’ which flew into the top of the charts in late 2006. Their single ‘Something Kinda Ooohh’ was a hit and reached number five on digital download sales alone.
After their hugely successful tour earlier this year, Girls Aloud have taken a well-deserved hiatus. But that doesn’t mean they’re becoming couch potatoes or signing on to the dole. After being together since winning Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 (yes, it has been that long!), Cheryl, Sarah, Nadine, Nicola and Kimberley are each leaving the safety of the girl group to focus on their own projects. Unfortunately, the girls were to busy rehearsing, shopping and judging the X-Factor to speak to us personally but we found out a few of their favourite things and some things they would rather forget…..

Spotlight on Duquesa Puerto de la Duquesa really is the Costa del Sol’s best-kept secret. Although within easy reach of the airports of Malaga (40 minutes) and Gibraltar (30 minutes), La Duquesa seems like a thousand miles away from the throng of the holiday resorts and offers an unparalleled quality of life in Southern Spain. With its superb 360 berth yacht marina and is regarded as one of the best zones on the south coast, with a privileged all year round climate, sandy beaches and unspoilt natural scenery. With temperatures amongst the hottest in Europe, the Costa del Sol is the place to soak up the summer sun and make the most of the mild winter climate. During the summer months, up to 14 hours of sunshine a day provides the ideal opportunity to get maximum enjoyment out of simply sunbathing and lazing the days away, or taking part in more active sports - both on and off the water.

www.thecostadirectory.com
Capricorn Dec. 23 - Jan. 19 What really matters - your bank balance or inner peace? One doesn’t affect the other unless you let it. Acceptance helps, as does sceptical openmindedness. Listen to new ideas, but think carefully - for a week or two - before implementing them.
Aquarius Jan. 20 - Feb. 19
The
Who are you now, and who do you want to be in 12 years? See challenges to your plans as a spur to rethink them. The changes suggested probably aren’t the ones you need to make.
Pisces Feb. 20 - Mar. 20
Be ready for a spotlight to hit you from any angle. You could find yourself the center of attention when you least expect it. Keep your best foot forward. Use this time to promote yourself, and you’re sure to get ahead.
Aries Mar. 21 - Apr. 19 Re-examine any strategies or plans you have for the future. New input will make them quickly obsolete, and the longer you cling to old notions, the harder it will be to make necessary adjustments.
Taurus Apr. 21 - May 21 Feeling pressure from above can provoke you to speak up more forcefully than you’d intended. That could work out for you; but think it through, and if you can, let speaking out wait until next week.
Gemini May 22 - June 22 Finding or building a partnership requires revising some opinions. Getting the facts will make it a little easier. Exercise the maturity and integrity to make adjustments with minimal drama. Circumstances can make that more challenging than usual.
Meet • Eat • Drink • Be Entertained
Cancer June 23 - July 23 Review your approach to being safe, be especially careful right now. There’s more than a few flu symptoms out there, and, by the way, how’s your liver? If you feel poorly make an appointment for a full check-up in the next two weeks.
Leo July 24 - Aug. 23
Cos
Your extremely expansive notion of playfulness can be causing trouble with your partner or undermining chances of finding one. Any good performer looks for ways to improve his or her act. Ask someone near and dear for a constructive critique.
Virgo Aug. 24 - Sept. 23
Health troubles, however real, are exacerbated by nerves. Meditation helps. So does focusing on the tasks at hand. If they are too big or too many, break them down and prioritize, and then do what you can. Breathing and relaxing make all jobs easier.
Libra Sept. 24 - Oct. 23
Explore new ways to play - anything from kissing to backgammon, whatever offers an interesting challenge. But avoid risky things like cliff jumping or skydiving. It’s time to experiment and learn from mistakes. Go easy and have fun.
Scorpio Oct. 24 - Nov. 22 Arguments at home are likely to arise over money. Just to keep things clean, assume you’ve made the mistake, look for the error and fix it. If you’re in the clear, that will make it easier for the other person to come clean.
Sagittarius Nov. 23 - Dec. 22 It’s almost impossible for you to stay out of arguments now. Keeping a sense of humour will avoid most of them and drive your more relentless opponents crazy. You need to take some people very seriously, so be careful with that strategy.
