Tour Itinerary
DAY 1: Amsterdam In Amsterdam embarkation in the late afternoon. In the evening the ship leaves the city and crosses the dense Dutch waterways heading south.
DAY 2: Rotterdam In the morning the ship reaches the bustling seaport of Rotterdam. In the morning, a coach excursion to the picturesque Dutch town of *Gouda starts here in the morning. The town is well-known for the cheese, which is not produced in Gouda itself, but has been traded here for centuries. The market square between the „Waag“, the historical house where the cheese was weighed, and the Gothic town hall is a special attraction. As one of the oldest Gothic town halls in Holland, Gouda‘s is definitely worth a few photos - just like the Sint Janskerk, the longest church in the Netherlands with 123 metres. This Gothic, five-aisled basilica is famous for its stained glass windows. Back in Rotterdam, you will have lunch at the on-board restaurant before the next coach excursion leads you to the well-known city of Vermeer *Delft, where small canals lined with patrician houses dominate the cityscape. You will also pass by the sites of the Dutch government in *The Hague. In the evening, our ship leaves Rotterdam again.
DAY 3: Zeeland Area This day is dedicated to the province of Zeeland, where people have lived for centuries in close contact with the forces of nature, water and wind. The enchanting town of Zierikzee with its fishermen‘s and merchants‘ houses can be explored on a *walking tour - including the visit of the Watersnood Museum, which commemorates the great flood disaster of 1953. For lunch everyone is back on board and in the afternoon you will visit the impressive *Delta Works, where you will learn interesting facts about the world‘s largest flood protection project, called „Deltaplan“. Afterwards the ship sails back to Amsterdam, where it moors after dinner.
DAY 4: Amsterdam Our ship stays moored in Amsterdam all day long. You can use the morning for a coach excursion to the *IJsselmeer, which was deflected by the artificially constructed Afsluitdijk dam of the North Sea. The first destination of the excursion is the small island of Marche, famous for its authentic houses and living customs. In the past, the island was regularly flooded – which is why the houses were built on stilts and earth mounds. Since 1957, a dyke has connected the island with the mainland. In a boat called „Markenexpress“, the journey then takes you to the charming fishing village of Volendam, where you can explore the maze of alleyways with the beautiful old fisherman‘s cottages. Lunch is again served on board the ship in Amsterdam and in the afternoon the next excursion leads to the world-famous *Keukenhof tulip paradise, where a blossoming carpet is spread out in spring. In the picturesque park, you can revel in a real sea of flowers of 800 different tulip varieties between old trees, ponds, windmills and modern art installations, and allow yourself to be captivated by elaborate flower arrangements. Then return to the ship for Amsterdam.
DAY 5: Amsterdam Disembarkation in Amsterdam after breakfast.
What is Keukenhof? Keukenhof, the best day out among the flowers! Over 7 million bulbs will bloom this spring, with a total of 800 varieties of tulips. A unique, unforgettable experience! Besides the spacious 32 hectares of flowers you can enjoy the spectacular flower shows, surprising inspirational gardens, unique art and wonderful events. Do not miss the Tulip mania exhibition at the Juliana Pavilion. Keukenhof is also fun for the children. They will have a blast with the treasure hunt, petting farm, maze and the playground. A great day out for the whole family. Keukenhof will be open from 21 March - 19 May 2019.
