Romantic Rhine From Basel to Amsterdam DAY 1: Basel
Embarkation in Basel and departure downstream the Upper Rhine River.
DAY 2: Basel - Breisach - Strasbourg Arrival in Breisach in the morning. Full day *excursion by coach through the Alsace region: First you enjoy a city tour in Colmar. The city enchants with its half-timbered houses, the „Litte Venice“ district and its churches. Then by coach through the Alsace wine region to Strasbourg to visit the charming Alsatian capital. The excursion includes lunch in a restaurant and the re-embarkation in Strasbourg.
DAY 3: Strasbourg - Speyer - Mannheim The next stopover harbour is the emperors’ city of Speyer, one of the oldest German cities. A *walking tour takes you through the Old Town to Speyer Cathedral. This largest preserved Romanesque church building in the world is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981. Continuation of the river cruise from Speyer to Mannheim. There will start an excursion to one of the most beautiful cities in Germany, *Heidelberg. Situated idyllically by the Neckar, the Old Town is the epitome of German Romanticism. After the city walking tour return to Mannheim.
DAY 4: Mannheim - Rüdesheim - Koblenz Arrival in the charming winegrowing town of Rüdesheim, which is part of the Rhine Gorge – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and famous for its beautiful lane called Drosselgasse. The morning *shore leave includes a trip on the mini train „Winzerexpress“ into the centre of the small town, a visit to „Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet“ and a walk down Drosselgasse, lined with wine taverns. After the ship has left Rüdesheim, you enjoy the river cruise on the romantic Middle Rhine, past the Lorelei rock, steeped in legend. Right where the Moselle flows into the Rhine lies today’s destination – Koblenz, *city walking tour through the Old Town. In the evening, MS Johann Strauss departs from Koblenz and heads northwards.
DAY 5: Koblenz - Cologne Arrival in Cologne around noon. During a *walking tour through the Old Town you can explore this vibrant city. Among others you will pass the Cologne Cathedral that is on the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the third-largest cathedral in the world. Furthermore it is the most visited sight in Germany. MS Strauss leaves Cologne in the late evening.
DAY 6: Cologne - Arnhem The ship is moored in Arnhem for the whole day. This provides time to visit the *open air museum of Arnhem with its historic buildings. The afternoon is taken up with *city sightseeing in Arnhem, whose rich and eventful history is still reflected in some historical monuments today. At night, the ship starts the last stretch of the river cruise to Amsterdam.
DAY 7: Amsterdam The ship is expected in Amsterdam around noon. In the afternoon, an coach excursion to the *Zaanse Schans open air museum is scheduled. Here, in a former residential and craftsmen’s district, several windmills, a clog workshop, a cheese dairy and much more give you an insight into the typical Dutch lifestyle of the 17th/18th century. You will then return to the ship in Amsterdam.
DAY 8: Amsterdam Disembarkation in Amsterdam after breakfast.

The MS Strauss – named after the famous Austrian composer of Viennese waltzes – is an absolute premium ship cruising between the North Sea and the Black Sea on the Danube and Rhine River. The public areas such as the restaurant or the panorama salon were renovated and completely redesigned in 2017/18. All cabins are outside cabins. The Deluxe cabins (15 m²) and suites (19.5 m²) on the Danube Deck have French balconies with sliding doors. On the Rhine Deck there are Deluxe cabins (15 m²) with openable semi-French balconies, Deluxe Junior suites (18 m²) and Standard cabins (15 m²) with non-openable panorama windows. The cabins on the Moselle Deck are slightly smaller (12 m²) and have smaller, nonopenable windows. All cabins are equipped with adjustable air condition, shower and lavatory, flat screen TV, two beds (on request also separated / on Moselle Deck just separated), wardrobe, hair dryer and telephone.
