A COLLABORATIVE LAWN COLLECTION

SOFT AND SILKY:

COTTON LAWN Our cotton lawn is a lightweight woven fabric with a soft and silky touch. It is created using smaller yarns and a higher thread count, which gives it a very smooth and untextured feel. Imagine a crisp cotton button-down dress shirt, and you’re probably imagining cotton lawn. Our lawns makes the most luxuriously soft, silky, lightweight quilts that are gorgeous quilts for warmer climates or seasons. Lawns are also fabulous choices for lightweight garments.

S AND TRICKS:

WORKING WITH LAWN Many people are surprised to learn that you can mix cotton lawn in with your standard quilting cotton without much change to your technique! Although it is thinner and lighter weight, cotton lawn is still a stable woven fabric, so working with it is not too different than working with the fabrics you’re used to. Here are some extra tips and tricks for working with cotton lawn: Prewash your fabric. If you’re making a garment, prewash and dry your cotton lawn the way you intend to care for the finished garment to take care of any shrinkage that may occur. Prewashing your lawn will also help give it a little “tooth” and grip to make quilt piecing easier. Use a smaller needle. Cotton lawn is more delicate than quilting cotton, and you don’t need quite as big of a needle when sewing it. A size 70/10 needle is a great size to use with cotton lawn. Use spray starch for extra stability. If you find the thinner lawn to be a little wiggly while cutting and sewing, pressing it with spray starch before cutting can work wonders! Don’t be afraid. This is the most important tip! Don’t be intimidated by a different substrate name. Cotton lawn isn’t that different than quilting cotton, but finished cotton lawn projects feel so airy and divine. You can do it!
