Aquatics The Aquatics staff is a team of dedicated, trained professionals providing individual personal service to all our patrons. NCRD Aquatics offers a full range of classes and activities for people of all ages and abilities. The Aquatics Program encompasses and speaks to every aspect of the District's Mission Statement: Fitness, Youth, Adults, Education, Therapy, Recreation, Sports, Life Saving, and general Well-being.

Our pool was built in 1930 as an addition to an existing school building. The pool and its programs have a long standing history! Through several generations it has enabled every child in our community to learn water safety and swimming skills. Students K – 5 receive weekly instruction as part of their school curriculum. No doubt lives have been saved because of this vital program! The pool is 75 feet long and 30 feet wide. It's ideal for lap swimming and athletic training. It ranges in depth from 3 feet to 8 feet, with diving possible in the deep end. We also have a small wading pool offering a non-threatening introduction to the water environment for young children.

Swi m C lu b 23rd Annual Pool-a-Thon Coming in February 2013 Look for It!

The NCRD Pool-A-Thon is an annual event that raises funds for the Nehalem Elementary School Swim Instruction/ Water Safety Awareness Program. The mission of this 82 year old program is to provide a safe environment in which the students can learn to swim, and be educated in water safety, while instilling the value of swimming as a lifetime skill and healthy recreational activity. Benefitting the lives of 200 children (including basic skills students of School District 56), the lessons are provided weekly throughout the school year. Participating kids canvass throughout the community looking for sponsors who will pledge dollars for their swimming efforts. Last year, 70 enthusiastic swimmers swam 2,240 lengths, totaling 32 miles!

Take your swimming to a new level. Swim Team work-outs Flip turns, butterfly, breaststroke, racing starts and much more Lots of fun! Monday and Thursday after school. Coach Kiley Konruff. For information call the pool at 503.368.7121.

“I swam in this pool from 1930 to 1938 when it was brand new. I lived in Garibaldi and they would bus us kids up to Nehalem for recreational swims. It was the most fun thing we did and the pool was incredible. I will be 92 this year and I feel so lucky to be swimming here today.” – Ruth Lewis, age 92 “The pool is the best deal in town. My 92 year old mother and I take the arthritis class. I bring my 4 grandchildren for swim lessons, open swims and water polo. I bought my 40 year old daughter a pass so she could exercise and bring her 7 month old to the parent/toddler swim. We have 4 generations of our family who love the pool. I mentioned to my grandchildren that we hadn’t been to the beach and they said, that’s ok grandma, we got to go to the pool every day.” – Rosalie Rynearson, age 64

Testimonials “I went hiking for the first time in my life with the NCRD Thursday Hiking Group. It was a 6 mile hike. I just loved it!!!! The hiking group members were very supportive and encouraging. Hiking has now become my favorite workout routine. Love it!! Love it!! Love it!!” — Joyce Mayo, Rockaway Beach “We are a very long way from the Metropolitan Opera, but NCRD provides us with the next best thing by arranging trips to Newport to the Performing Arts Center to view the Met HD broadcasts. The theater is smallish and intimate; every seat is superb and the sound quality is outstanding. The sight and sounds are so faithfully transmitted that one forgets it is not a live and in-person performance. I would not have made the trip alone. Thanks for making this possible.” — Sue Jelineo, Nehalem
