Former NKN student, turned film ON TIME, producer, returns with a message UNDER

BUDGET

By Dave Fisher The Citizen

For former Neah-Kah-Nie High student Windy Borman her recent visit to the north Oregon coast was somewhat of a nostalgic stroll down Memory Lane. The critically acclaimed film producer/director lived here during her formative years from 1992 to 1997 and attended Neah-Kah-Nie middle and high schools. A member of the class of ’98, Borman spent her senior year at West Linn High School as a result of her family moving to the Willamette Valley. Still, she harbors fond memories of her time here and considers herself a Pirate, in more ways than one. With the success of her documentary, The Eyes of Thailand, which debuted at the Newport Beach Film Festival in April 2012, Borman has spent the past year “following the film” and its screenings in the United States and other parts of the world. For the former University of Oregon graduate, who became a Duck to pursue an acting career, it has been a whirlwind of activity. “I though I wanted to be an actor,” Borman told the Citizen, but her parents’ concern that their daughter would end up just another starving artist, prompted her to rethink her strategy and broaden her studies to include journalism and film production. The decision paid off. Coupled with her interest in environmental issues, Borman, at age

Nehalem celebrates the opening of its new City Hall By Dave Fisher The Citizen

“I never thought I would live to see the day,” said Nehalem City Council President Dale Stockton, of Nehalem’s new city hall. “We’ve been talking about this for a long time and here it is,” Mayor Shirley Kalkhoven added. The two, along with other council members and

quently dedicated the next four to five years of her life to The Eyes of Thailand, filming poignant moments at Salwala’s elephant hospital in Thailand — including when injured elephants Mosha and Motala each received their prostheses in August 2009. “I’ve been somewhat of a gypsy pirate the past year with my travels,” said Borman, as she went wherever The Eyes of Thailand took her, living, for the most part, on the road. Trashion Fashion!!!

CARTM’s annual Trashion Show and Upcycle Party, once again, delighted audience members with 22 “trashionistas” donning attire made out of... well, trash and other recyclable materials. The hour-long Saturday evening show at the North County Recreation District auditorium got off to a rousing start with entertainment provided by the Tsunami Drummers. Master of ceremonies “Trashionista” Aina Tonjes, decked out in her trashiest best, was at the top of her game, as were those who joined the fun. The Trashion Show and Upcycle Party, held afterwards in the NCRD gym above the auditorium, is an annual fundraiser for CARTM Recycling Center near Manzanita.

LNCT selects a new executive director By Dave Fisher The Citizen

The Lower Nehalem Community Trust bid farewell earlier this week to its longtime coordinator and executive director Erich Miller and at the same time continues to welcome Dale Cramer Burr, who, out of 17 applicants, was tabbed by the LNCT Board as its new director, a position created in 2012. As for Miller, he is headed to Virginia where his fiancé lives. The couple plans to get married next summer. From there, the possibility of running the 110-acre family farm located near South Bend, Indiana is appealing to Miller.
