He is taking life just one step at a time. Jeremiah Ray is walking the West Coast from Los Angeles to Seattle with a special message for those he meets. “I am doing this walk for my sister and to raise awareness and funds for the Amputee Coalition of America,” said Ray. “So, I am walking for those who can’t.” Ray’s sister, Rebecca, lost her leg in 2012 in an abovethe-knee amputation. Ray said he got the idea for his walk and has been inspired by his sister’s strength. “She is one of the stron-

He’s placed reflective tape on my walking poles, wears a flashing light on his chest and walks against traffic to be seen. Ray estimated he’ll walk about 1,200 miles. He averages about 20 miles a day, camps outside, stays at motels or with people he meets

Ray is now a few days ahead of his walking companion in the trek. The News Guard caught up with Ray as he walked from Newport to Lincoln City earlier this week. “This is an enjoyable time of year for this walk,” said Ray. “The best part is doing something for someone I admire and for a nonprofit that I am very impressed with and the work that they do.” But Ray acknowledges the challenges of his walk.
