LINCOLN CITY, OREGON
Villages at Cascade Head: Possible resort

The Villages at Cascade Head could be a prime location for a Lincoln City destination resort that might include a high-end hotel, shops and other attractions. Sandy Pfaff, Lincoln City Visitors and Convention Bureau director, said development of a commercial center at the Villages
would give Lincoln City an advantage in drawing more visitors. “It is the probably the best opportunity to develop a high-density area where multiple restaurants, multiple retail and multiple activities can bring people together in a walkable and comfortable setting,” said Pfaff. “This is the first best shot that we have to do it, do it well and probably do
it for the most economical way.” David Hawker, Lincoln City city manager, said he also believes development of a commercial area in the See VILLAGES, Page A8

Former Taft High 7-12 Principal Scott Reed has been cleared of allegations of improprieties made by a group of concerned parents and citizens following an investigation by an attorney hired by the Lincoln County School District. Eugene attorney Randy Harvey, in findings released to the media late Friday, found that allegations of misuse of funds and failure to divulge negative information during the interview process were unsubstantiated or unwarranted. A third issue, the handling of the theft of a commemorative plaque from the school’s football field and Reed’s subsequent handling of the incident, remains in the hands of the District Attorney’s office. In its findings, the LCSD said Harvey, who was hired by the District as an investigator in June while Superintendent Tom Rinearson was on vacation, had concluded his probe into the following:

WEEKLY OUTLOOK The dry spell has been interrupted by measurable rain. An intriguing question: Is this the start of an early rainy season? Saturday should have the best weather during the Labor Day Weekend.

Family Promise opens doors to community JIM FOSSUM The News Guard
Now that the community has had a chance to see it, the call has been sounded for the development of the city’s first family shelter to address a growing epidemic among the area’s homeless. About 100 people came and went Tuesday, Aug., 20, with a bounce in their step, smiles on their faces and lighter hearts and wallets after helping needy homeless children with their contributions and support for Family Promise of Lincoln County at the former Oregon Coast Community College and Taft Fire Hall building on S.E. 48th Street. Purchased by Nelscott Cafe owners Don and Debbie Williams with the

She also said former Lincoln City Chamber of Commerce leader Linda Roy would begin service as interim director on Sept. 3. “It is time to pay someone as we prepare for opening our doors,” Connett said, estimating the building would be ready to provide daytime services to the public in November. She also said that the organization would soon be scheduling 10 church partners to work in four-week periods offering their sanctuaries or available space as a nighttime shelter for homeless families.

will be dedicated to the 170 Lincoln City-area children who are homeless, a considerable portion of the 582 homeless kids in Lincoln County. “It’s great to see what people who care can do for people in need,” Lincoln City resident Jill Walls said. The Williams family essentially donated the vast majority of space in their newly purchased building to Family Promise for $1 a month rent for 10 years to use as a daytime shelter. Homeless advocate Hanna Connett of Family Promise estimated $700 was contributed to the cause by the causal visitors, but expects checks will continue to come in supporting the new project.
