branch having a full shop refit in early 2021. This has given the team at Harleston more space to display new mid-week meal products and seasonal goods for their customers. Both shops pride themselves on providing an excellent customer service. All the team know the produce inside and out and will gladly pass on the benefit of their experience and knowledge to anyone that needs guidance on recipes and the cuts of meat to use. You regularly hear TV chefs saying, 'ask your butcher', you can certainly do that at Browne's. Also, alongside the local meats you'll find tempting cooked meats, their amazing sausage rolls, pork pies, meat pies and scotch eggs as well as an assortment of local produce such as chutneys, condiments, honey, and eggs. All these products can be delivered to your door at no cost and no minimum order within a five-mile radius of both branches. This is a long-established family business, and residents and visitors to both Diss and Harleston have enjoyed the superb local produce and traditional approach to good old fashioned customer service for nearly ninety years. With Callum ThompsonBrowne starting an apprenticeship at the Harleston branch, the future looks bright with the business in good hands for years to come. Callum will be the fourth generation of the Browne family to take up the butchery trade. With Christmas fast approaching, please get in touch to place your seasonal order. For any further information or details, please call Harleston on 01379 852235 or Diss on 01379 642105 or better still, pop into one of the shops.

Browne's bangers have become a large selling point over the last few years. The shop boasts over thirty different flavours using a wide range of meats including pork, beef, chicken, lamb, goat and venison when available. These are all produced on their premises by hand. Checkout their website for a full list of Browne's bangers: www.dabrowne-butchers.co.uk. The business is currently being managed by his grandson Danny with a shop on St. Nicholas Street in Diss and another in the Thoroughfare in Harleston, just a few minutes away along the A143. Though much has changed in the trade over the last 80 years, 'Browne's' have kept many of the old traditional ways, sourcing meat locally from excellent longstanding farms from surrounding areas in Norfolk and Suffolk. Quality of produce and service is something that will never be compromised. The business has a particular reputation for sausages and

As we approach the end of another extraordinary year, we'd like to thank all those who continued to support the Framlingham and Saxmundham Cats Protection branch during another difficult time. We send our very best wishes to everyone for Christmas and a very good new year to come! Eight precious weeks, Covid and subsequent lockdowns has further increased demand for new pets and changed the way that owners find them. CPs report (Cats UK 2021) found that just over half of all cats purchased (52%) were found online, including sites like Facebook and Gumtree. Because of unregulated online selling, a worrying cat welfare issue is now on the rise. Kittens are being mis-
sold by unscrupulous sellers, who separate them from their mothers before the eight precious weeks mark, meaning they're missing out on vital nutrients and social development time. This winter, CP wants to raise awareness of the 'eight precious weeks' of a kittens life. Kitten mis-selling for easy profit is on the increase, often resulting in kittens being taken from their mother when they are too young to thrive without her. Buying over the internet makes it far harder to spot a deceitful seller often with devastating consequences. • A kitten sold too young is far more likely to suffer a lifethreatening illness than if they've built up immunity through their

tunes, a huge helping of audience participation, and plenty of feefi-fo-fun, as they tell the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, which unfolds in the Pantoland village of Fiddle-on-the-Fen and tells the tale of Jack, who is tricked into exchanging the family cow for a bag of beans, that turn out to be magic seeds that grow overnight into a giant beanstalk. The Trot family climb to the top of the beanstalk to rescue Daisy the Cow, only to discover a Giant's kingdom and the answer to all their money worries. But will they make it back in one piece? Or will the Giant Blunderbore grind their bones to make his bread? Film Theatre Manager and Pantomime Director, Wayne Burns, is looking forward to returning to the stage: "After such a difficult time for our beloved Film Theatre, we're so pleased to see Pantomime back to Leiston and the entire cast can't wait to bring our brilliant script to life on stage and perform for such appreciative crowds. Following the resounding success of Goldilocks and the Three Bears in 2020, Pantomime returns to the stage of the splendid Leiston Film Theatre in January, after sadly having to be postponed in 2021, due to lockdown. Jack and the Beanstalk appears live on stage at the 107-year-old venue on Thursday 13th, Friday 14th, Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th January, with demand for tickets so high, that seats for some performances are already limited, with over 1,000 tickets already sold. The Pantomime has been written by Wayne Burns and Stephen Ginger, who between them have over thirty years of Pantomime behind them. The show is being brought to the stage under Wayne's 'Team B Productions' title. CHET VALLEY VINEYARD
AWARD-WINNING ENGLISH WINE VINEYARD TOUR EXPERIENCES VINEYARD HOLIDAY STAYS
St Peter's Hall is one of the most picturesque and iconic buildings to be found, deep within the beautiful Suffolk countryside. You get a sneak preview of it as you round a sharp bend and it truly is a stunning building. On the site of the famous St Peter's Brewery, it sits majestically with its church like facade and moated grounds. Dating back to the 13th century, it really is a restaurant and wedding venue extraordinaire! Fully refurbished over the summer by the Trio's Catering and Events team who are the new tenants. After a long search for the right venue in which to extend their already established events business, the team knew when they found St Peter's Hall that it was the place they'd been looking for and just had to be reopened but with a little twist if their own! When they re-opened St Peter's Hall on October 1st, as a much-loved local building, the team were aware they had to get the balance right between the old and the new. So far, they've received fabulous feedback from all that have visited. The main restaurant is situated in the Great Hall, with its huge medieval fireplace and fulllength stone church windows, it really does have the wow factor. If you're lucky enough to grab the fireside table with its comfy velvet chairs, you may even spot the 16th century graffiti etched into the stone of the fireplace. The cosy Bishop's Bar serves

Sizewell C £250m boost to Suffolk from the start of construction As part of building Suffolk's new power station a package of over £250m has now been allocated to key areas covering: Employment and skills - £22m Up to £22m has been allocated to a far-reaching programme of work with Further Education colleges and training organisations, including bursaries for those struggling to access education and new centres of excellence to deliver the skills needed to work on Sizewell. Environment - £100m The local natural environment will also benefit from up to £22m through investment in projects that will mitigate the landscape impacts, whilst at the same time further increasing biodiversity on Suffolk's heritage coast and the creation of habitat where wildlife can thrive. Sizewell C ecologists have already successfully created Aldhurst farm in Leiston along with other habitat creation in surrounding areas, which are now home to a range of wildlife enjoying lagoons and reed beds, lowland heath, heather, acid grassland and wet grassland which are characteristic of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths. Separately, A further £78m
has also been agreed for an independent Environmental Body to enhance the area's rich landscape. Community Fund - £23m A special fund for community projects of £23m will be administered by Suffolk Community Foundation, the Suffolk local authorities, community representatives and Sizewell C to ensure that local villages and groups can access funds which will limit the impacts of construction but also enhance the environmental, social and economic wellbeing of East Suffolk Taken together with the legacy of infrastructure improvements that the project will deliver, the overall investment aimed at limiting impacts and benefitting the local community will exceed that committed to in the Deed of Obligation. Alongside this, the Sizewell C Consortium, the group representing the 200 leading organisations bringing forward the construction of new nuclear power stations, has estimated the direct benefit of the building programme to the Suffolk economy will be £2bn and £4.5bn
to the wider East of England region. Humphrey Cadoux Hudson, Sizewell C Managing Director, said: "I am excited by the opportunities Sizewell C presents and I am determined that the local communities will benefit as much as possible from the opportunities presented by the project. Impacts of the construction phase will be minimised, and we will continue to work with local councils to deliver this. Sizewell C offers opportunities for all, the range of skills we need are diverse and we want a workforce that reflects society. With this funding package in place, we can ensure the project will help level up the county so that those most in need can access training to develop skills for rewarding local jobs and provide an incentive for people to live and work locally." The Planning Inspectorate now has 3 months to make a recommendation to the Secretary of State with a final planning decision expected to be published in April 2022. • Up to £100m for the environment made up of £78m for an environmental body and £22m for habitat creation and mitigation. • £23m community fund administered by Suffolk Community Foundation. • Up to £22m for employment and skills. • Multimillion investment in improvements to Suffolk's infrastructure. The public examination of the Sizewell C project has now closed. Both Suffolk County Council and East Suffolk Council have stated their position on the proposals and while there are still some issues to work on, agreement has been reached with the councils, emergency services and other recipients including the RSPB and National Trust on the associated funds the project will deliver locally. The funding programme, known as the Deed of Obligation, has been agreed as part of the planning process to mitigate impacts and compensate for the construction and in some cases into the operational phases whilst ensuring legacy benefits for local communities for decades to come.

British Open Taekwon-do Championships 2020 (2021) Newly formed ICENI Taekwon-do took a small group to Coventry for the GTUK British Open Championships, and came back with five medals! • Jason Drake 2nd Dan Black Belt won a Silver for Sparring • Michael Wickwar Green Tag, won Gold for Patterns and Gold for Sparring • Danny Abramson Green Tag, won Silver for Patterns and Silver for Sparring • Amanda Dykes was in full support, along with ICENI instructors and officials Mr and Mrs Bedingfield. But there's more to this story than just the medals... This was the first tournament since the pandemic, and both Danny and Michael joined the club while training was restricted to sociallydistanced techniques with no
contact. This was then followed by a lengthy spell of training at home via Zoom sessions with their instructors, sometimes with very poor internet connections, and very small training spaces in their homes. Only in August did they actually get to hit a bag and were allowed close contact sparring tuition. So their achievements (like so many at this tournament) was a victory for all those who have persevered to learn Taekwon-do through the pandemic, supported by hard working instructors who wouldn't give up their dedication to teaching Taekwon-do. If anyone out there wishes to join us at ICENI Taekwon-do, please go to our booking page for more information on how to book a free session: www.iceniTKD.uk

On the 16th of October, we held our Jumble Sale in Holton Village Hall. We had an excellent day and we thank everyone who came out to support us and all our volunteers who work so hard for us. Thank you to everyone who baked, the cakes were delicious. We raised a staggering £836.17p which is incredible! We know
that the money we raise will help to save people's lives as new and better treatments are developed. The committee would like to say a huge thank you to EPS Transfers for designing our lovely new banners (look out for our Christmas Fair one in Halesworth). We're very grateful to EPS for supporting us. We'd also like to say a huge thank you to Holton Village Hall.
They always go that extra mile and we're very grateful for all they do. Without the Hall, we wouldn't have a venue for our events, so please support them whenever you can. Our next event is our Christmas Fair in Holton Village Hall on November 20th, 10:30am-2pm. (Our adverts were in the November edition of the Community News). Don't forget to visit Carole at 84 Duke's Drive for all your book needs (weather Alison, Laura and Jenny permitting). For any information please contact Dawn Davis, Chair on 01986 873640.

Memorials
Since our last report, we've been getting back into the routine of meeting again, and remembering some of our songs and games, with the girls picking their favourites for an evening. The Brownies got creative and used leaves, feathers and grasses to design an autumn place mat and have designed self-portraits for a Girlguiding Anglia 50th birthday card to send to another pack. We've been pleased to welcome Poppy, Cassie, Frankie and Emelia to Brownies. We hope you'll all enjoy your time with us. Our first meeting back following half term, we dressed up sparkly for a firework party and thought about celebrations. We all enjoyed the delicious spread that Penguin put on for us. On Friday 22nd October we had a special guiding farewell and thank you lunch in The Stables, at The Angel for Alison and Laura Nichols, who moved up to Chesterfield, last year during the first lockdown. Our District Commissioner (Jenny Allen) presented Alison and Laura (better known as Koala and Panda at Brownie) with gifts and thanked them for their commitment and dedication to Guiding over the years. It was extra special in that Alison was also presented with her fifty years' service award to Guiding! Alison was a Brownie and Guide herself, gaining her pre-warrant in 1969 with a Brownie pack in Mansfield. She

then went on to run Brownie packs in Lincoln, and Wangford after moving to Suffolk. Alison discovered there was demand in Halesworth for a second Brownie pack and in 1984, along with Sheila Dunce, started 2nd Halesworth Brownies. This is a fantastic achievement, Alison has dedicated over fifty years to Guiding and it's thanks to her that so many girls have been able to enjoy challenges, make new friends, to learn, to grow and to most importantly, have fun as a Brownie. It was also lovely to catch up with Guiding friends who we haven't seen for so long. We miss you both terribly but are pleased that you've settled in well to your new home and look forward to seeing you again when you are next down. We also miss Katie, who's settled in well at Lancaster University.

Beccles weather report October 2021
This summary is compiled from the records of Stephen Bartholomew of Beccles.
October overall was milder and somewhat wetter than the long-term average.
Max temp: 20.6C (69F) on the 19th, compared with 17.8C (64F) in October, 2020. Min temp: 4.4C (40F) on the 12th, compared with 5.5C (41F) in October, 2020. Average max temp: 15.80C (60F) in 2021. 14.22C (57F) in 2020.
15.10C (59F) on average. Average min temp: 8.50C (47F) in 2021. 8.42C (47F) in 2020. 8.11C (46F) on average. Mean temp: 12.15C (53F)in 2021. 11.32C (52F) in 2020. 11.61C (52F) on average. Air frosts: Nil, compared with nil in October, 2020. Rainfall total: 4.18", compared with 4.11" in October, 2020 (1981-
2010 average: 2.38"). The 2021 total is 176% of the average. Most rainfall on one day: 0.88" on the 20th. Wind direction: Mainly from: South-west 10 days, south 8 days, north-west 7 days and west 3 days. October 2021 overall was milder and somewhat wetter than the long-term average. The mean temperature for the whole month was 0.5C above the long-term average and also the mildest October since 2017. Pleasant days during the month including the warmest (20.6C) on
the 19th (the warmest October day since 23.0C and 22.0C recorded on the 13th and 16th of October 2018 respectively) and was one of 5 days to reach or exceed 18C. However, it's an autumn month and by far, the coldest daytime maximum of 10.7C was recorded on the 21st, just 2 days after the warmest noted above, thanks to a rapid change of air type over a cold front from mild, moist south-westerlies to chillier north-westerlies. Minimum temperatures varied slightly more than the maximum. On the plus side, because of the high presence of cloud at times, 10 nights preserved some of the modest warmth from the day to achieve a figure of 10C or better. This included the overnight of the 19th/20th when no lower than 15.2C was recorded (akin to some of the milder summer nights). At the other end of the scale, even
just 14 days, almost all in periods 1st to 5th, 18th to 22nd and 29th to 31st. There were 3 days which exceeded six tenths of an inch (0.64" on 2nd, 0.68" on 4th and 0.88" on 20th) and a further 3 days of 0.40" or more (1st, 19th and 30th). The 20th was in fact the 2nd wettest 24-hour period of the year so far, just short of 0.90" on the 5th of January. Ironically, this left space for some pleasantly mild and dry periods when high pressure dominated. During the period of the 6th to the 17th, only 2 light shower days occurred, while 6 days (23rd to 28th inclusive) were totally dry. It seems almost certain that above average rainfall will be recorded this year, up to and including 31st October 22.04" has been noted against long-term annual figure of 25.60".

the coldest night fell no lower than 4.4C on the 12th. Overall, the average minimum did achieve a small positive anomaly. For the majority of the month, we were looking westward to determine our weather type. Even though our conditions were seemingly wet at times, spare a thought for areas of Cumbria and south-west Scotland which experienced a severe soaking towards the end of the month in particular. Reports of 12 inches of rain in 48-hours were made. Here, this was the 3rd wet October running and wettest month of the year so far, having narrowly exceeded 4.14" in January. On my 54-year record, there have been 8 wetter Octobers than the 4.18" total recorded this time (including 2019's 5.51" total and the highest 5.61" in 1982). This amount was accumulated on

Greetings from Emmanuel Church
Woodbridge Cruising Club As winter approaches, Woodbridge Cruising Club members are enjoying a full range of activities, with weekend lunchtime bars, as well as dancing, maintenance parties and the Monday afternoon group with coffee and cake. Wednesday suppers are a welcome interlude to cold dark nights, with delicious home cooked food, and the chance to socialise. These continue until spring, when boats are back in the water. The winter walk programme is now well into its stride, with Monica and Janet leading a November walk from Levington and along the Orwell, giving a different view for sailors. This is a four-mile stroll, along the side of the marina, round the lake, across farmland, with glimpses of the Orwell. All walks are researched and led by members, and are a
regular Thursday event. The first Sunday talk of the new season was Andy Beharrell about the Army and Navy forts built offshore in the Thames Estuary, and North Sea. This was an amusing, humorous and entertaining talk, with nostalgic photos of pirate radio stations and the principality of Sealand. Andy is also a trustee of The Woolverstone Project which provides sailing for those with disabilities throughout the year at Alton Water and during summer on the River Orwell. Robert Simper's talk was on people who made the River Deben, and gave an insight into some of the characters at the very heart of the River Deben over the years and who have contributed to the rich character of the river. Future talks are by our very own Captain Peter King on 'Thermopylæ - The finest clipper
of them all', and Paul Bragg on Biscay Ports. If these sound intriguing, why not join WCC to discover more. The November AGM was well attended, and reports submitted from the treasure and cruise captain Andy, who organised the wonderful summer cruises enjoyed by all. There's a range of social events, from the Black Tie Commodore's Christmas Party, the New Year's Eve party and more, and members are looking forward to these. The club has a wide range of events throughout the year (nautical and land-based). If you're keen to join, do visit the club website: www. woodbridgecruisingclub.org. New members are always welcome, whether you own a motorboat or yacht, or are keen to start sailing.

We may already be the proud recipients of the Eco Church Gold Award but we intend to continue the good work in years to come. Please note there'll be no regular coffee morning in December. Luncheon Club Luncheon Club is now operating again regularly on the second Friday in the month in the Orange Hall at 12 noon. A great group of elderly people meet for fellowship and good home cooked food. The hall is nice and warm! Rosedale Rosedale Funeral Directors are planning to hold their annual Memorial Service at Emmanuel on Sunday December 12th at 2pm. charge. • Other loss relief (which may be lost if not claimed) can be used instead. • There is a large Balancing Charge (where on disposal the relief you have had exceeds residual value) ahead upon a planned cessation. A few points to consider when considering waiving your entitlement: • HMRC cannot force you to make a claim for CAs each year. • You need to do the maths. • You can choose to waive some or all of any capital allowances. • Consider the future. • You may end up waiving your entitlement to CAs at one rate to replace it in a later year with a lower rate (but ultimately, you'll still receive the same amount of allowance over the life of the asset. It's just the timing of when you receive the relief that you're adjusting). • Try to get the CA claim right first time, as HMRC take a dim view to reopening accounts. • Take professional advice unless you understand the implications. By not automatically claiming every allowance at the first
127368
For tax purposes, the method of claiming asset depreciation is known as Capital Allowances (CAs). These operate on a reducing pool of value basis using HMRC-prescribed rates ranging from 2% to 100% depending on the asset (and tax year) involved. These allowances are then treated as deductions against your annual profits. But must you claim them? The answer is no. You're not forced to claim CAs each year and there several reasons why you may choose to waive your entitlement, especially as you generally don't lose the unclaimed value (so you're able to continue claiming in a following year where you left off). You may wish to waive CAs when: • Your profits are low enough to be covered by your personal allowances and by claiming CAs, they don't affect your tax and/or NIC liability. • You wish to increase the effectiveness of any averaging claim. • Higher profits are needed for pension or mortgage purposes. • Claiming them might trigger an excessive Gift Aid donation

12% of people over 16 in Suffolk are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes...
Manager From £6,000 p.a
Could you be one of them? You can check your risk and reduce your chances of developing the condition with help from the NHS and the National Diabetes Prevention Programme (NDPP). Type 2 diabetes is largely preventable through lifestyle changes. The NDPP is free to join and has a proven track record of success in helping people reduce their chances of developing the disease by supporting them to maintain a healthy weight, eat better and be more active. Anyone can check their own risk status and find out if they're eligible to join the programme by completing the 'Know Your Risk' online assessment on the Diabetes UK website: www.riskscore. diabetes.org.uk/start. People who reach a risk score
of sixteen or above will be given instructions on how to join the programme. Participants are booked into group classes which are currently being delivered remotely. Classes are available in eighteen languages and participants may have a friend or relative alongside them for support if necessary. Those who'd rather not attend group sessions for practical reasons or because they have learning difficulties or mental health issues, can request one-toone coaching with a specialist dietician over the telephone and track their progress via an app. Dr David Egan (GP and

Diabetes Lead for the NHS Ipswich & East Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group) said: "We know this course can work very well for the people who stick with it. Type 2 diabetes is currently one of the biggest threats to our population's health and yet it's a condition which can be delayed or prevented. I'd encourage everyone at risk of diabetes to assess their risk as diabetes can lead to kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, sight loss and amputations. It also makes it more difficult for people to fight serious conditions such as cancer and heart disease and viruses such as Covid and flu."

It's been four years in the making. We've researched, we've commissioned reports but most importantly of all, we've consulted. Now, we need to know what you think of our draft Neighbourhood Plan. The Halesworth Neighbourhood Plan is about protecting what you value most about the town as well as identifying potential opportunities to enhance and improve. We cannot necessarily stop developers building, but we can ensure that they apply proper standards of design and that the green spaces and play areas you love are protected. There are some aspirational ideas in the plan, but there are also nineteen formal policies, protecting our town for the future. On Monday 1st November, Town Councillors approved our draft plan and so it now goes through a rigorous consultation process called 'Regulation 14'. We'll be writing to over sixty-five organisations, consulting local businesses but most importantly of all, we want to hear from YOU. You have until the 17th December to tell us what you think about our plan. You can download a copy from the Halesworth Town Council website or you can find a copy and forms for commenting at the Library or Town Council
Offices. Remember, we cannot change developments that have already been agreed or are in the Waveney Local Plan. On Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th November, over 140 people joined us for the Neighbourhood Weekender. A further twenty-six people joined us online and by live stream (so sorry about the poor sound quality). Thank you for those of you who shared your questions and concerns and thank you to those of you who filled in our comments forms. And thanks to Rev Jane Held and St Mary's PCC, Simon, Gwen, Gabrielle and Jo who helped with the teas and Juddy Leach who provided the van. Our weekender reminded us how much you value Halesworth and how passionate you are about protecting it. You love the green spaces, the mix of shops and businesses that make the Thoroughfare buzz. Many of you also spoke about your worries that long-promised plans for new sports facilities, new retail opportunities will never come to fruition. We believe our plan shows the ways that we can act now for future generations, safeguarding what we cherish about Halesworth but also highlighting exciting opportunities for the future. Now, it's over to YOU to tell us what you think.

The last few weeks have been a busy period at The Pear Tree Fund, as demand for our services and support has continued to increase. We welcomed our new Information and Advice Coordinator, Caroline Goldsmith, to the team at the Pear Tree Centre. We welcomed the return of the Parkinson's and Dementia Carers Support groups to the centre. Our team started a new fortnightly Friday morning general carers support group, and a cancer support group is soon to follow. We'd like to hear from people who'd be interested in helping develop support groups for diabetes and stroke. We've had stalls at both the Bungay and Beccles Infomarkets organised by East Suffolk District Council and made useful links with other local organisations. We took delivery of a 'Grandpad', a tablet computer designed to help older people connect with the wider world and reduce loneliness and social isolation. Our team can provide a demonstration of the 'Grandpad' and help local people to acquire one on free loan from the District Council. The Pear Tree Fund provides holistic wellbeing and bereavement support, information and advice and access to support groups, to anyone with a life-changing illness, long-term condition and their families and carers, living in East Suffolk and neighbouring parts of Mid-Suffolk and South Norfolk. Community memorial event People of all ages were invited to remember those that had lost, share stories of what helped in grief and explore ways to support each other at a special event to mark World Compassionate Communities Day on the 1st November at Kaliwood in Holton. Philip Carr-Gomm, psychotherapist and former Chosen Chief of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, led an inclusive opening and closing ceremonies and a remembrance fire walk. The Pear Tree Fund and Kinda Education worked in partnership for months to create this opportunity for the
community to come together in remembrance and celebration. Activities included mortal yarns storytelling, compassionate conversations, Samhain weaving, decorating glass lanterns, creating a memory tree and 'letting go' with leaves. Further events are planned for the winter solstice and equinox with smaller workshops held in the intervening months. Dee's Den fashion show A fun-filled evening of fashion and fizz took place at the Pear Tree Centre on Friday 12th November at the inaugural Dee's Den fashion show. The evening was a showcase of the finest selection of pre-loved clothes stocked at Dee's Den, our charity shop in Halesworth. A dazzling array of accessories were also on display. Our amazing models wowed the audience on the catwalk accompanied by an exciting selection of music, ranging from Abba to a Superman-inspired pyjama section and a James Bond-themed evening-wear finale. The audience enjoyed a glass of prosecco, tasty canapés and a delightful sweet. Thank you to Edwards Restaurant in Halesworth for donating a delicious array of chocolate treats. After the show, there was an opportunity to buy the clothes features on the catwalk and a selection of other high quality pre-loved clothes and accessories from Dee's Den. We've been inundated with requests to host another fashion show from both those who attended and others who missed out on obtaining a ticket. Watch this space! The money raised will help us continue to support people with life-changing illnesses and longterm conditions, as well as their families and carers.
We'd like to thank Halesworth Golf Club and especially the team captains, for all their support this year in raising funds for us. Members of Halesworth Golf Club have been very generous in their support. We're grateful to other local organisations who have raised money for us over the last two months, including Bramfield Bingo Club (£717.13), Queen's Head Bramfield (£166.94) and Bramfield harvest supper (£25). A special mention to Joy Ayes of Joy's Junk, who has regularly raised £150 a month at the Laxfield community market. We received donations in memory of Alison Ringwood and Pamela Gray. Thank you to their family and friends for supporting The Pear Tree Fund. Over the last three months, we've received many donations from individuals. We'd like to thank: P Bones, Mr and Mrs Cunningham, J Edward and J Smith, A Langford, D Penman, C Lloyd, Rachel Booth, J Clarke, David Watts and F Phillips, for their generous donations to our charity. Congratulations to Mr Witherby, who won both second and third prize in October's 50:50 Club draw. The 50:50 club helps to raise funds for the charity and enables us to support more people that need our help. If you're interested in joining the 50:50 club, you can find out more information and register on our website.

Hungate Christmas Tree Festival BACT community transport has had a busy month! Passenger numbers continue to grow as services, local amenities and groups open again. Our drivers have been taking passengers for their important medical appointments, vaccinations and to many other destinations. Our exciting new project, 'Meet, greet and treat' has enjoyed another successful month. With thanks to funding from East Suffolk Council and East Suffolk Community Partnership, we've been able to take people out to combat loneliness and isolation. In October, we took thirteen residents from the Bungay, Beccles and Lowestoft area to a local garden centre. They enjoyed a couple of hours perusing and shopping before being treated to tea and cake in the café. Ivy and Jean agreed: "It's been such a much-needed day out. I've really missed times like this." Gillian's feedback was: "I had such a lovely time. It was
wonderful seeing people I hadn't seen since before lockdown. I thoroughly enjoyed shopping for plants and bird food. Thank you so much!" If you or somebody you know is feeling lonely or isolated, feeling anxious about leaving the house or are unsure of what groups and clubs are available, please contact BACT community transport on 01986 896896 or visit our website: www.bactcommunitytransport. org.uk to discuss how the project could help. We can provide a oneoff paid journey from your home address to take you where you'd like to go. This could be an introduction to a sports or social club or event, to visit a friend or pop to the shops or a café. We look forward to hearing from you.
After last year's successful 'Virtual Christmas Festival', we're planning for the real thing this year and to date, the response to decorate trees is good. Special care is being taken to make it as Covid-safe as possible and we look forward to seeing lots of people coming to enjoy the amazing spectacle of light, colour and creativity. The entrance charge is still £2 per adult with free entry for accompanied children. The festival is opening on
Friday morning, earlier than in previous years. Light snacks and drinks will be available in the Stable Café throughout the festival. Support from proceeds will be given to BACT Community Transport, Ormiston Families and St Elizabeth Hospice. Dates and times: November 26th-28th Friday: 10am-12noon 3:30pm9pm Saturday: 9:30am-4:30pm Sunday: 12noon-5pm.
Go green and save money by following the lead of the Waveney Centre. The popular drop-in centre for the retired in Beccles, has produced a small book called 'Waste Not Want Not'. People from the Waveney Centre and other organisations in the town have contributed by remembering what their parents and grandparents used to do in the days when we were not so wasteful. There are useful hints on saving money and energy, mixed with a little nostalgia and
some humorous verse which all makes for an enjoyable read. All proceeds go to the Waveney Centre, which (like so many charities) has suffered from lack of fundraising events due to Covid restrictions. By buying this book and following some of the advice, you'll help the planet at the same time. An ideal small Christmas gift and easy to post. They are on sale for just £3.99 from the Waveney Centre, Country Cards in the New Market and Field2Fork in Blyburgate. Please put it on your shopping list!

Following announcements by Mr Sunak within the recent Spring Budget, there are interesting times ahead for the Residential Property Letting Industry, which will affect a vast proportion of landlords in England. Currently, you must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) to let a residential property on an Assured Shorthold Tenancy and it must, by law, meet a minimum standard of an 'E' rating. With all world thoughts directed to "saving the planet" and "green energy", the Government have decided to hit landlord's first by changing the rules in 2026 to require that a newly rented property will have to meet a minimum EPC rating
of a 'C'. Now, since I deal with hundreds of properties, I know for a fact that a huge number of my clients (together with millions of landlords in England) will very likely get hit with a large bill to energy efficiently improve their properties to comply with the new legislation. Under the current rules, there's a cap on the amount a landlord can be legally required to contribute to the "improvements" of £3,500. Here's the rub, this is going to increase to £10,000. In reality, 2026 is not that far off and so this is something that landlords really should start planning for right away and building a contingency into their letting to ensure they have funds
available when the time comes. And don't think you can get out of it if you don't change your tenant. These new rules will state that all rented property, meaning your existing tenancies, must comply by 2028. You have been warned!
