his month we have held a successful Chairman’s briefing for representatives from Groups via Zoom. Thank you to all who attended and apologies to those who were unable to get online. Topics discussed included the admission of caravan owners as new members, how to attract younger members to the Club, and the problems with attracting members to become hosts at rallies. As mentioned at the meeting, many of these problems need Group support as well as CoM, so please all pull together as we go forward. You will find a form giving you a chance to vote on the topic of caravans in this magazine and responses can be made by post or online via the Club webpage, please take the time to respond as we value your opinion. It would be appreciated if there was no discussion on Facebook. Our National Rally is coming, and bookings are starting to come in. Please consider attending and book if you can. Although the booking form only shows 3 nights and above you can book for less if you wish, but we would encourage members to attend and enjoy as much of the weekend as they are able to. Please remember that you can only be guaranteed a pitch with your Group if you have booked ahead. You will find information in this magazine along with a booking form. There is also information on the Club’s webpage, and you can book online. By the time you read this the first Members’ Casual Campsite at Croft Farm Water Park, Gloucester, will have taken place, but bookings are open for Topsham and Tencreek, Looe. See your Handbook, the Webpage or the Club Facebook page. I look forward to seeing you at one of these events and don’t be afraid to come and introduce yourselves if you see me.

DORSET HOME FARM CAMPSITE (CL94125)

Should caravan owners be allowed to join our Club?

Complete the form inclu ded in this magazine.

An important question for all Club members

W

ould you consider a family membership for the children of members who own caravans to be allowed to rally with their families? The question of allowing owners of caravans to join our Club has been asked on several occasions at our Members’ Meeting at AGMs. Following a straw poll vote of those members in attendance at the time, the majority have always indicated that they do not wish to change the current Constitution which states that to join our Club, new members “must own or have use of a Motor Caravan. (4.1) We do allow caravans on the following basis: “Existing members who subsequently change to a caravan, for whatever reason, can continue their membership. (4.2)” In this way, our friends who a have supported the Club and rallied with us, are able to do continue to do so, using a caravan. However, owners of a caravan cannot join as a new member.

6 MOTOR CARAVANNER April 2022

We currently offer Full Membership and Associate Membership. We would need to amend our membership definitions or create a new category of Associate Membership so that our exemption certificate and insurance would be valid and the creation of full documentation for this would be a complex task. As part of the process of looking at this question again, Council of Management would like to consult as many members as possible. The data collected during this consultation will be considered in our discussions. This is a complex issue and potentially a controversial subject. We respectfully request that you submit your views by completing the form included in this magazine rather than opening debate on our Facebook page. It should be sent to Head Office to arrive no later than noon on 29th April 2022. Council of Management of The Motor Caravanners Club

NEWS

Lifestyle change is 'here to stay'

T

he phenomenal rise in people embracing van life and staycations as a result of the pandemic has continued to boom, says motor insurance brokers Adrian Flux, who have seen a rise of 146% in policyholders who insured campers being converted at home. A host of other areas that prove more people have taken up travelling or staying in the UK for holiday can be shown by year-on-year growth for cover – with a 21% increase in motor caravan (campervan); 11% increase in US motorhome (imported US campervan) and 9% increase in camper in conversion (camper being converted). Gerry Bucke, general manager at

Adrian Flux, said: “It’s obvious that more people are deciding to holiday at home rather than travel abroad. “And while we expect that may change slightly this summer

as restrictions are lifted, plenty of people have changed their habits for good now. It’ll be interesting to see how long it lasts and whether more people adopt the van life."

Explore Britain's longest waymarked trail The South West Coast Path features on every list of the world’s greatest walks – and it’s only a short journey from home. At six hundred and thirty miles long, the path passes through two World Heritage Sites and is home to the best coastline in Britain – it’s not surprising that the path is one of the nation’s favourite national trails. Stephen Neale spent more than a year walking and camping

the path, and has written this fantastically detailed guidebook to 1,000 offbeat, famous and surprising adventures to be had along the route. Divided into regions, the book explores the best places to get closer to nature and reveals the locations for hidden beaches, woodland areas, wild swims, kayaking and camping. The book costs £20 and can be purchased in either paperback or ebook form from all good retailers.

CLUB NEWS | NATIONAL RALLY 2022

What can I take part in at the National Rally? There are lots of activities that you can take part in, some of which are listed below INDIVIDUAL COMPETITIONS • The Homecraft competition – various sections covering different crafts and artwork. All the details are in the 2022 Handbook pages 73 -76. You do have to be rallying at the National to enter any of the Individual categories. • The annual Fun Dog Show is a chance for members to “show off” their beloved canine pet. Dogs are welcome at our National Rally, though only Assistance Dogs will be allowed in the halls. • MCCs Got Talent: Our very own Talent Show compered by Lisa. This proved to be hugely popular at Norwich, and lots of fun. No pre-booking required – talented members can just come along to the auditions (when and where to be advertised during the rally) and Lisa organises the rest. • This year we are adding some of the competitions that were held in the 1960’s – so if any of you have potential as a Glamorous Granny or even a Knobbly Knee (or two) consider taking part. PARTY NIGHT on SATURDAY The Party Night theme is ‘The 1960s” and it is hoped that Groups will participate in decorating their

12 MOTOR CARAVANNER April 2022

tables and wearing costumes in line with the theme. There is no individual allocation for Groups and it is intended that the theme is common across all Groups. (Please note, table decorations must not be above a height of 30 cm (12 inches) to avoid blocking other members’ view of the entertainment). CRAFT ACTIVITIES Various activities run throughout the rally: informal gatherings when a member will share their craft skills and you can try something new. Watch the notice board at the rally for place, time and craft – you may need to sign up for each session and some sessions may have a small charge to cover materials. SAMMY SNAIL CLUB A club especially for our Junior members, run by Maria and Gill. Lots of fun and activities and a good place for our younger members to make friends. There’s so much happening we can’t list it all! From a Silent Auction to the Fayre (where your Group can raise funds for your Group Charity, or you can sell good quality items) to a Ceilidh/Barn Dance and trips out to a brewery or pottery (unfortunately Blist Hill tickets are now sold out). Then there are meetings when you can find out more about the Casual Campsites, the FICC and a meeting especially for first-time National ralliers: plus meetings for Scribes to continued on page 16

Camping in the Forest business changes hands

F

orestry and Land Scotland (FLS) and Forestry England have taken over the Camping in The Forest (CiTF) business from the Camping and Caravanning Club. FLS and Forestry England have bought the controlling shareholding of 72% from the club, enabling each country to separately manage its future national forest camping offer. With staycations on the rise, the purchase will also make possible the potential expansion of the network of campsites beyond existing locations, enabling more people to get closer to nature. To ensure a seamless transition, the campsites will be operated by the club in 2022. Forestry England chief executive, Mike Seddon, said: “Camping experiences bring people closer to nature and heighten their appreciation for the environment and the wildlife these precious

Glenmore campsite near Aviemore, one of the Camping in the Forest sites (picture Forestry and Land Scotland) habitats support. With an increasing awareness of the impact of tourism and travel, individuals and families are considering their carbon footprint and cultural impact, leading to a growth in ‘staycations’. “This commitment enables us

to plan for the future. Across the nation’s forests Forestry England and Forestry and Land Scotland will be better placed to provide overnight stays in beautiful forest locations, helping make memories that enhance health and wellbeing."

Discover the real France The 30th edition of the popular France Passion Stopover Guide and App are now available. The guide lists more than 2,100 farmers, winegrowers and craftsmen and women – including 240 new hosts – who offer a place to stay for the night on their land to motorhomers from all over the world. The agritourism concept allows motorhome owners to discover a different France and encourages them to support the local economy and its gastronomic and cultural treasures. NEC SHOW REPORT

A WARM WELCOME AWAITED Kavanagh Deville reports on the recent reprisal of the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show held at the NEC in Birmingham. Part two follows next month.

COACHMAN COMPETES AGAIN Big news…touring caravan manufacturer Coachman are supplying motorhomes again. They dipped their toe in the market a few years ago by importing quality Kabe motorhomes from Sweden. Now Kabe are back again, totally tailored to the UK market and badged as the Coachman Travelmaster. Launch offer is three coachbuilts [1] with slightly confusing numbering. The shortest is the 560 (length: 7.627m / 25’ 0.25”; width: 2.47m/8’ 1.25”); the other two - 565 & 545 - are the same width, but longer at 8.07m/26’ 5.75”. All are built on the Mercedes Sprinter Al-Ko chassiscab, equipped with a 170bhp turbo-diesel engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Currently the biggest retailer is Simon Jones [inset] from Alan Kerr Motorhomes, (Paignton) 20 MOTOR CARAVANNER APRIL 2022

who reported a huge amount of interest and buoyant sales at the show. No surprise there, they are mightily impressive. All share a similar lounge [2] with a drop down double-bed above. It is pictured in on-site mode, but the offside settee quickly converts into two faceforward travel seats. Well-equipped kitchen [3] is centrally placed with a large domestic-style fridge-freezer to the right of the photo. It’s at the rear where the models diverge. 560 has a European-style corner double-bed [4], 565 features two longitudinal singles [5], and finally 545 opts for a peninsula double [6]. Note that all have a generous payload of 850-950kg, but in order to achieve this, the MTPLM has to be 4,500kg, thus requiring all drivers to have Group C1 on their licence. Prices: 560 - £105,715; 565/545 - £108,500.

CHAUSSON LINES UP NEW MODELS 7

8

9

Several significant models are now available in RHD. Marketed under the ‘First Line’ and ‘Exclusive Line’ range names we’ve picked some of the most innovative layouts. Firstly, a brace of compact and slim sub - 6m First Line models. 514 [7-9] features the new ‘butterfly’ (fixed) transverse double-bed at the rear. ‘Butterfly’ because both halves of the mattress flip-up to aid access to storage underneath. 460 [10] manages to seat eight for aperitifs. Both arrive as standard with a manual gearbox and 130bhp motor. Price: £50,390. Next is one Motor Caravanner reported on following its European launch, the £64,890 Exclusive Line 660 [11&12] whose USP is two habitation entrance doors. 13

Finally, a Fiat Ducato based van/ motorhome crossover, the CX-line 550 [13] has made it to Blighty. Originally launched in Europe under the ‘Challenger’ marque [14], it is badged as ‘Chausson’ for the UK market and carries a windscreen price of £63,690.

NEC SHOW REPORT

AVANT GARDE ADDITION One of the most popular layouts from the Erwin Hymer Group UK is that to be found in the Fiat Ducato based 250, which is within their flagship Elddis Encore range. However, not all members are able to afford an Encore, thus in response to consumer demand, EHG UK recently launched a similar layout in their more approachable Autoquest range. Now it’s also available with a similar price tag, but with different finishes, as the Compass Avantgarde 150 [15-18]. Base vehicle is the Peugeot Boxer with an ‘equine count’ of 140. As with all Avantgardes, MTPLM is driving licence friendly (3,500kg) and the spec is generous at its price point of £54,369. That said, the ‘eye candy’ alloy wheels fitted to the show model are an extra £780. What is important - but cannot be seen in the exterior shot [15] - is the standard (steel) spare wheel stored in an underfloor cradle. We wish more converters would copy EHG’s excellent example! Sociallyinclusive forward lounge [16] hides

15

a secret. Underneath the settees are two folding Aguti travel seats. Centrally-placed washroom is opposite the kitchen [17] with a peninsula double-bed [18] flanked on each side by a wardrobe and nightstand, bringing up the rear. Overall length: 7.338m/24’ 1”

18

LITTLE AND LARGE 19

It is remarkable that motorhomes appear to be getting both shorter and longer at the same time! The growth areas in the market are reported as being for those `vans under 6m or over 8.5m (19’ 8.25”/27’10.75”). Following are two great examples, which we think will be of interest to members. First, one that seems to defy logic in that it appears to be bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. It’s the Oasi 540 from independent Italian manufacturer Wingamm. Utilising their own in-house GRP moulding facilities, Wingamm has crafted an appealing and beautifully-fluid monocoque body [19] which would win 20

LITTLE AND LARGE continued any beauty pageant, as well as offering phenomenal rigidity and integrity. Despite its Lilliputian length (5.42m/17’ 9.5”), the interior [20] feels roomy, principally a result of opting for a single ‘L’shaped lounge settee instead of the more common twin inwardfacing benches. Contemporary cabinetwork adds class. Price: £92,155 (160bhp auto). The only obvious feature the palatial Moto Trek Euro-Treka IB [21] has in common with the compact Oasi is a spacious lounge [22], courtesy of a single L-shaped settee. Here floor space is further increased by placing the mine’sbigger-than-yours kitchen in a slide-out [23]. Midships is home to a spacious full-width ‘en-suite’

washroom and separate walk-in shower. The rear bedroom has a generously-sized peninsula double-bed and masses of storage [24] for even the most sartorially advantaged garment collector. Not keen on the layout? Fancy a different finish to the cabinetwork? Or perhaps different fabrics? The always flexible Moto Trek staff can oblige, as well as offering adaptions for wheelchair users. RAISING THE ROOF The show featured more campervans with pop-tops than in previous years, reflecting their growth in sales. Four in particular caught the author’s eye. First two on VW Transporter, the others on Ford Transit Custom. Campaway’s Vista Slide 22 [25] was beautifully detailed. Price as exhibited: £68,995. A slide-out rear kitchen facilitated a huge full-width bed in the Jöbl Kombi SE [26] (£50,950). Auto Campers has always been about putting the MPV into motorcaravans. Its design-led conversions [27] featuring modular 25

27 vans came to Risby Village Hall for our Valentine's Rally from Anglia, Essex and Chiltern. Despite our Rally Officer checking that things were ok a week before, the large hall and small one had been double booked for the whole weekend resulting in us only having the large hall on Saturday afternoon and evening. Furthermore, we were informed that there was a party booked for the large hall Sunday morning and a football match as well. It is a well-known fact that motorhomes and cars do not go together and since we were taking the whole car park up, we had to finish on Saturday night and forgo the Sunday morning coffee in order to get the car park clear by 10am. However, enough of the disasters which were not of our making. On Friday evening, we had cakes provided by Jenny. We then had ‘Call my Bluff’ compered by Richard Sanders with a panel of Derek Clarke, Keith Poole and Sandra Glendenning. It was the usual mayhem but a good laugh. Thanks to Richard for keeping things in order. This was followed by a short quiz from Tony Park. There was a raffle for a hamper of goodies, also table plants the proceeds went to EACH and Air Ambulance. Saturday, few members went into Bury since there was only one bus, most had a look around the village and many of us invaded the local pub for lunch which was very good for the pub. Saturday after 4pm, the hall was decorated, and we were entertained by Dale Diamond.

He was very good as usual and in the intervals we sold raffle tickets and drew it. Thanks to the stewards Ray, Paula, Tony, Carole and any who assisted in the parking up and clearing the tables and chairs in both halls. 26 vans came to Hoveton Village Hall (23 Anglia and 3 Essex). Over the weekend, the stewards put on quizzes which taxed our brains (especially the one on backing groups). Friday evening we had bingo followed by David Seals entertaining us. Saturday most members went into Hoveton itself or off ‘up the city’ (meaning Norwich). One group went on the bus the whole of its route and back again. Getting the most out of their bus passes! There was a full English for some in the hall first thing on Saturday followed by Claude giving a defibrillator and CPR demonstration which was very informative. In the evening, we had a Mr and Mrs game which was won by Jan and Mal. We were once again entertained by David Seals at times joined by Keith as the Dynamic Duo! Sunday morning the Dodgy Dip and Raffle was drawn and a bottle of whiskey was ‘rolled’ for and raised £46 for Macmillan. Thanks to the stewards Bob, Muriel, Tony and Carole for a good weekend. Cost £11pn incl (no EHU). This is a familyrun farm in a beautiful location with access to stunning countryside. It’s a few minutes walk into the village where you’ll find two nice pubs. There’s a bus stop outside the site for Winchester one way and Fareham in the opposite direction. The farm sells fresh eggs. The Torquay rally has unfortunately been cancelled by the venue. ADVANCE NOTICE: 27 April-2 May: Stratford-onAvon Racecourse Touring Park. If you require EHU, you must pay for 5 nights (£17 per night) or without hookup: £14 per night. All our rallies for this year, with the exception of the Balloon Fiesta, must be booked. If you’re unable to keep a booking, please advise Karen as soon as possible. Email: avonmcc@markandkaren.co.uk or call 07971 540909. Your committee wish you an enjoyable rallying season and look forward to meeting up with you over the forthcoming weeks. Caroline

CHILTERN There are no rallies to report on this month as the meet scheduled for 18-20 February at Old Warden Village Hall was affected by Storm Eunice and the committee decided that, in the interests of members’ safety, it had to be cancelled. However, our Rally Officer has rebooked this meet for 4-6 November. This is a small venue with only room for twelve vans, so booking is essential (via text to Julie in the usual way). We also need stewards for this meet so please have a think about helping your group. There is also another change to our programme. The dates for White Mark Farm have been altered slightly to 20-23 May. At the time of writing, we still have a few spaces available at our 60th anniversary meet. We have a full programme planned for the bargain price of £37.50 for three nights: 2-5 June, 2022. Upcoming rallies: 14-19 April: South Lytchett Manor, BH16 6JB, fully booked. 19-24 April: Weymouth Rugby Club, Monmouth Avenue, Weymouth, DT3 5HZ. 29 April-3 May: Hoar Park Farm, Ansley, Nuneaton, CV10 0QU. 12-16 May: St Peter’s Campsite, North Moreton,

OX11 9AS. 20-23 May: White Mark Farm, Watlington, OX49 5AF.

EAST MIDLANDS IMPORTANT NEWS about our rally at Wainfleet. The dates for this rally have changed; it will now be held earlier in the year from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June 2022 and NOT July 8-10 (as listed in our rally booklet). Due to the space available to us, this rally in June is now bookable. Our Jubilee Rally at Arena UK, 22-25 July 2023 has also been made bookable and the booking form will be available from rallies and our website very soon. To book a rally, contact Anne Taylor: email anneeastmidlands@gmail.com or phone 07414 852497. Casino Night at Marshall’s Yard, Gainsborough. February 25-27, 2022: What a fantastic weekend was had by all at the annual casino weekend rally. 24 East Midland vans attended the rally welcomed by stewards Anne, Sue, Mick and Ron. Friday evening bingo was followed by a quiz with money related answers, was won by Trish Gallop. We woke up to glorious sunshine on Saturday, so some members took the steep walk into Gainsborough and the obligatory visit to Wetherspoons for their lunch. In the afternoon, tea and coffee was provided in the hall: time to sit and chat. Saturday evening, everyone put on their best bib and tucker ready to hit the casino tables. Everyone was given £150 of pretend money and the winner was the person with the most at the end of the night. Well done to Pauline Kelly with £530 (obviously signs of a misspent youth). Next came our annual snail race. The men’s race was won by Steve Louch, ladies race won by Sue Louch and the mixed race won by John Rice. There was then a gripping final race to find the overall champion and the winner was Steve, who paraded his cup around the hall (making especially sure that his wife Sue saw it as he had beat her in the final!) On Sunday morning the chairperson closed the rally by hoping that we had all had a good time and wished all a safe journey home. Yvonne. Upcoming rallies: 14-19 April, Easter Rally, Springfields, Spalding, PE12 6ET. 29 April-2 May, Anglia Invite to Sheringham High School, Sheringham, NR26 8ND. 13-15 May, Tattershall Village Hall, Lodge Road, Tattershall Lincoln, LN4 4LL. 27-31 May, Cattle Market, Salford Road, Melton Mowbray, Leics, LE13 1JY.

GROUP NEWS of us who can't sit still when listening to Pete's music needing little encouragement to take to the dance floor. Being bitterly cold on Saturday, most headed to the hall to keep warm. All our electrical equipment was PAT tested; sadly the bingo machine bit the dust, but the urn and hotplate passed which was lucky as both were needed for the weekend. Some brave souls wrapped up and walked into town for lunch, then returned for afternoon tea and card bingo. A bowl of Sheila's tasty homemade vegetable soup started the evening's activities and warmed us up nicely. Just hope Sheila's thumb has recovered from chopping all that swede. With tables decorated with roses (courtesy of Yvonne), we enjoyed listening to Pete's romantic music until he stepped up the beat and got us dancing again. On Sunday morning, Chairman Larry welcomed new members Maureen and Dave, and we found that three people were all celebrating their 80th birthdays. By now, the rain was torrential, and everyone decided to cut their losses and go home. Unfortunately, several (me included) got soaked to the skin packing up but despite this we all enjoyed the weekend. Many thanks to Julia and Tony for hosting, and also to Pete for the music. Hopefully the experience wasn't too daunting. Looking ahead, if you have any ideas of group activities or games etc, we’d love to hear from you. We want everyone to enjoy themselves but need fresh ideas. Hope to see you at a rally soon. Usually, no need to book but if you can, please let the host know you're intending to come so we know how many to cater for. Upcoming TC's: 14-18 April: Burnham Copse Primary School, Newchurch Road, Tadley, Hampshire, RG26 4HN. Easter rally: Hall and hardstanding. Hot cross buns, quizzes, and various indoor games, cold buffet and new entertainer (Alexis) on Saturday night, Easter bonnet competition - bring yours along, bus stop for Basingstoke nearby, cost £60 (£52 singles). Arrivals after 5pm, host: Diane 07971 888492. 29 April - 3 May: Winchester Rugby Club, Russell Road, Winchester, SO23 7EF. DO NOT USE POSTCODE TO SITE. Bank holiday field rally with pods. Outdoor games, quiz, easy walk to town, Wetherspoons, cost £14 pupn, £13 pupn singles. Arrivals after 1pm, host: Larry 07789 39389. ESSEX Westcliff High School for Boys: We arrived on Friday evening with it being cold and a bit windy. After seeing the vans in, it was over to the girls school for Friday night entertainment of bingo. A lucky couple (Keith and Ann) won both jackpots. Hope you did not get too many begging letters! After the bingo, it was a natter and chatter evening catching up with friends old and new. We had a couple from Anglia and we hope you enjoyed the weekend. Saturday saw members venturing off to Leigh-onSea or Southend. We went off shopping to Southend. It was bitterly cold there, so we didn’t hang about to long, had lunch, quick look at the shops and then back to the motorhome for some warmth. It was said that Leigh-on-Sea was very cold too. On Saturday evening, we had a Chinese auction. As always, there appeared to be two very wanted prizes. The prizes had to be a minimum of £5 and the most wanted prizes was a teddy bear and a unicorn. Good fun was had by all. Raffle tickets were sold and the raffle was drawn. Our ticket was one of the last and we won a bucket and sponge which Lin said would come in handy for me to clean the motorhome, very good of her! The hall was cleared up as we were having coffee and tea in the sixth form changing rooms on Sunday. On Sunday, we had the Chairman’s chat and tea and coffee. The couple who won the teddy bear kindly auctioned it for charity which was the Air Ambulance. The lucky couple to win the teddy bear were Ann and Peter Collins. It was then off home after a good weekend. John Upcoming rallies: Bradwell Village Hall has been cancelled. 8-10 April: Pleshey Village Hall, CM3 1HJ. 29 April-2 May: Lower Park Playing Fields, Brightlingsea, CO7 0JX.

KENT The recent winds have caused a few issues at some of our venues, particularly St. Edmunds at Dover, who unfortunately received considerable damage. Because of this, they are unable to accommodate us for our 1-3 April rally and therefore, we had to switch venues. Thankfully Oasis Academy, Sheerness were able to assist. Could I please ask all members, if you are aware of a venue, which you believe might be suitable for a rally, then let our Rally Officer know. Particularly if there is use of a hall or one nearby. With regards to our rallies, we still need hosts for some of these venues, see list below. Please help your committee by volunteering to host a rally, help will be given. Without a host, these rallies will be cancelled. Unfortunately, we also received some devastating news, that Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys in

LANCASHIRE Our first T.C in February was at Whittingham Club. The first arrivals were sited in sunshine but after just 15 minutes the rain started and then hail, then back to rain which continued for most of the weekend! Now you might think ‘miserable’ but that is not a word to be used when describing this weekend. It was such fun! The evening began with payment for weekend stay and sales of tickets for bingo, bonus ball and raffle. In the absence of the chairman Mel, our host, welcomed 27 units including new members, Michelle and Steve

Kurling finalists - Lancashire Group

Ulkers - Lancashire Group Harwood. He explained about the indoor games format and asked for the names of all entries. Jack was the DJ (no Dean as Lisa had Covid). Allan called the bingo followed by Bill’s quiz and dancing til the end of night. A lunchtime practise for our ukulele players was interrupted by Brian mopping the floor ready for Kurling. After lunch, we all assembled for Dominoes, Darts and Kurling. Some very tense matches and lots stayed to the end watching the final of the Kurling. Lisa and Mark were the winners. Brian and Steve won Darts and Joy won the Dominoes with Bob being a losing finalist in all three. What bad luck! The evening started with monetary prizes for all winners and runners-up plus (chocolate) medals to winners presented by Mel and President Jack. Line dancing followed by 'Take Your Pick' then Jack gave us a variety of dances, St Bernard waltz, Working Man, Dreaming, a Spot waltz and Best of Friends. GROUP NEWS everyone still in high spirits. Our second T.C was arranged to be at the Canberra Club but was cancelled because of the weather forecast for gales over the weekend. In fact, we had three gales over the weekend, all named; Dudley, Eunice and Franklin and there was much damage and disruption through the whole UK. Your temporary scribe, Alma. MOTORCYCLE Hi all. We are now only four weeks away from our first motorbike rally of 2022. The days are getting longer and a bit warmer too. Thanks for all your lovely emails, confirming your support for the group. I know that you are looking forward to meeting up again and sharing our days out together on our motorbikes. The difference for me this year is that I will be joining you on the ride outs and can enjoy the fun first hand. MCG Committee Update: Martin Borrill is now the Treasurer, as Pat Wighton has resigned. Upcoming rallies: 29 April-2 May at Sheringham High School, Holt, NR26 8ND, hosts are the Anglia Group, start time 5pm. 2-13 May at The Chestnut Campsite, Fundenhall, NR16 1EG, start time 12 noon. Hosts are Noreen and Martin. Full details for all our rallies are on the Motorcycle Group website and our Facebook group.

NENE VALLEY After the disappointment of no January rally, we were all looking forward to our February rally at Cardington. However, the great British weather decided to put a spanner in the works with a couple of hefty storms which covered a great part of the country and, at the last minute, we had to cancel. A notice was put on our website, so hopefully any members thinking of attending, accessed the website and didn’t have a wasted journey. Denis was able to rearrange the Cardington Rally to replace the weather-hit cancellation with a new date, 25-27 March, and to start with, the support was minimal. The March rally at Geddington had such little support it was in danger of being cancelled along with Cardington. Notices were put on the website with updates of both of these rallies. A lot of time and work goes into organising these events, so please help us to make the effort worthwhile. 38 MOTOR CARAVANNER April 2022

Hopefully, our next rally will be 21-24 April at Barnstones C&C Park. The Saturday of this rally is the 23 April (Saint George's Day). Our stewards (Janice and Martin) invite you to join us in the evening in the Village Hall as we celebrate the patron saint of England and everything English. If possible, we’d like everyone to dress in red and white. Find out a little bit more about George and then celebrate with us some historic English men and women – songwriters, rulers, politicians, performers, poets, artists, military heroes and more. We'll have singing and entertainment and an England and the English Quiz. Looking ahead to 27-29 May, we have a weekend at the lovely ‘out in the country’ site of Cherry Tree Farm. It’s peaceful, with walks and lovely views across the valleys. Denis is busy organising a range of outdoor games to enjoy, if you wish to join in. The National Rally: The 2022 Handbook is helpful if you are going to the National and wish to make an entry for the individual Homecraft. The rules are on page 76, with item 8 showing how to make your entry application, with a deadline for entries of 10 May. The theme for Party Night is the 60's. If you have any ideas for decorating the Nene Valley table, we shall be happy to know. Please get in touch with our Secretary, Peter Moore. Upcoming rallies: 21-24 April: Barnstones C&C Park, Main Street, Great Bourton, OX17 1QU, cost £12 inc. electric, plus rally fee. 27-29 May: Cherry Tree Farm, Woodford Hill, Woodford Halse, nr Daventry, NN11 3SB, cost £12pupn.

NORTHERN COUNTIES Hi all, we had our Valentine’s weekend at Houghall Campus, Durham. We played games and had raffles. Everyone was treated to a lovely couple’s photograph. The ladies were presented with a red rose on arrival. It was a very enjoyable weekend. Many thanks to hosts Jean and Alan Hope and Sandra and Jim Hall. Our next rally was at Blucher Social Club, Newcastle – Where Una McNichol did a very enjoyable quiz and we listened to the local group Moonshine Stragglers which is always very popular with our members. A lot of our members enjoyed the great transport links to Newcastle and the lovely sites of Hexham. A big thanks to Sue and Stu Collingwood who did a great job of hosting. Thanks, Nora. Upcoming rallies: 11-14 March: Heighley Gate Garden Centre, Morpeth. 18-20 March: Leyburn Auction Mart. 1-4 April: Amble Foreshore, Northumberland. 8-11 April: Stokesley Showground, Middlesborough. 14-18 April: Guisborough Prior Pursglove College. All rallies are on the Northern Counties website.

GROUP NEWS NORTHERN IRELAND Cookstown: Well, another successful weekend in Cookstown, even though the weather was a bit inclement, We were warmly welcomed by Yvonne and Florence with their ‘little’ helpers Gary and Jack. After all the vans were parked up on Friday night and Valentine shortbread eaten, we were entertained by Gary’s Mr and Mrs. Taking part were John and Joyce Mc Millen, Martin and Marion Ostler and Ben and Florence Young. This turned out to be a very amusing evening, and the Mr and Mrs was won by Martin and Marion who romped home with the highest score, this was followed by music and a catch up, Saturday was quite a nice day, with some heading up the streets of Cookstown for some retail therapy. As usual the Saturday Market was on. On Saturday night there was a change to the usual music we had a real live Entertainer ‘Dave Kane’, it wasn’t too long before the floor was filled right till the very end. Altogether there was 41 vans and 2 new members, The Dowie family and the Crawford Family. The Valentines quiz was won by our newcomer George Crawford, and the entry draws were won by Bryan Chew and Willy Graham. See you all again soon, Ellie. Larne High School Rally: 25-27 February 2022: 36 vans attended the Larne Rally and received a warm welcome from hosts George and Diane, and Davie and Evey. Fortunately, it stayed dry for the parking of the vans. On Friday night, a large turnout came to the hall for bottle top bingo ably compered by George. We also enjoyed music provided by Gary. We woke on Saturday to windy weather, but this didn’t deter us, and many ventured into town for shopping. The hall was open in the morning for kids' craft session and Selma gave an update to those wishing information on the upcoming National Rally. Saturday night we gathered in the hall for live music by Robert Swann who had everyone on the floor dancing. In the interval we all enjoyed a game of Roll A Pound. At Sunday’s Coffee Morning, Irene thanked everyone for attending and congratulated the hosts for a well organised and enjoyable rally. She also thanked everyone else who had assisted. George advised that £65 had been collected from the Roll A Pound game (Lindsey and David winning). The proceeds will be donated to Cancer Focus NI our Chairman’s charity. He welcomed new members Gary and Jennifer Matheson and Clive McDowell to the Club and welcomed back Eric and Sandra Moore. Ian and Shiela, Mary and Tony and Sally and Norman were congratulated on their new vans. The Mega Quiz winners were Dave, Liz, Neil, Peter,

Lindsey, Irene and Mary. The number plate draw was won by Ian McKenna and Ms O Kalinina. Many thanks to our hosts for another great weekend. Joyce and John McCune.

NWM&NW What a brilliant rally we had at Hough Village Hall. A great big thank you to Shirley, Glenys, Darren and Len for the wonderful Chinese New Year theme for the weekend. There was the usual bingo on Friday when our visitors from Lancashire group, Les and Joyce, were the top winners with a house and a line. Sue Clarke managed two lines. The hosts then tortured/entertained us with a "collective nouns" competition, won by Ian, Les, Peter, Maria and Joyce's table. Did you know a group of hares is a husk or that a group of hippopotamus is a bloat? Having recovered from that, many went out on Saturday to Nantwich or Crewe from the handy bus stop just outside. The evening kicked off with a Chinese New Year quiz. The winners were Two Sue's table with Candy and Mark and Les and Joyce with Ian, Maria and Peter. This was followed by a wonderful Chinese buffet with a plentiful supply of food. The raffle followed, again with a Chinese theme. This was going well until one of the prizes, M&S box of chocolates was unwrapped then the swapping began. It became the hottest property in the room changing hands so many times the chocolates probably melted. ‘Man Bites Dog’ game also changed hands many times as did the knitted monkey. Who knew knitting was such popular an activity! So many changes it was difficult to keep track. Joyce was the victor of the chocolates; Maria had the knitted monkey (maybe she will show us when it's finished). Sue Johnston formed a close attachment to the Dean Martin CD. Mike, disappointed he missed the mug with socks, was compensated with the lucky van prize draw for turning up. The money raised from this raffle (£31) was donated to Rose's Cancer Charity. Everyone had a wonderful time. Thanks again to the hosts. Not all rallies have to be so action packed. We are still in need of hosts so if you would like to help or run a rally, please see a committee member. Our Easter Rally is at Shrewsbury 15-18th April when you can wear your wonderfully decorated bonnets/hats on Saturday evening for the parade, so get creating. Upcoming rallies: 1-3 April Stone Cricket Club, Lichfield Road, Stone, ST15 8QH, Farmers' market on Saturday, close to town, bar drinks, £12.50pupn. 15-18 April Greenhous West Mids Showground, Gravel Lane, Shrewsbury, SY1 2PF, Easter rally, walk into town, own drinks, £15pupn. 29 April-2 May Weston Park, Weston Under Lizard, Shifnal, Shropshire, TF11 8LE, plant fair, own drinks, £15pupn. >> April 2022 MOTOR CARAVANNER 39

Welcome to all our new members and looking forward to meeting up throughout this year. Writing this newsletter at the beginning of March to meet the April publication deadline, the Government have recently announced that all Covid-19 guidance be lifted. This positive news resulted in a flurry of bookings for our Watergate Bay rally as we carefully ease ourselves into a more social lifestyle. It would be good to have all this year’s rallies well attended and be interesting to monitor how many ralliers take advantage not to book and receive a warm welcome by hosts on the day. Due to bad weather in previous years, a rally was not organised for February and, with this year’s storms it seems to have been the right choice. Hopefully, nobody suffered any serious damage. One or two SWPG members joined the West Country at Riverside for their Valentines Rally and had a good time - thanks go to their hosts Sam and Tim Snell. We have been notified by Headland Caravan Park in Tintagel that they are not taking either individual or block bookings for tourers (it seems to include Caravans, Motorhomes and tents). Please delete this listing if it was on your original 2022 rally programme. There is a possibility that we might get a booking this year sometime during the rugby off-season at Bude RFC. This is a popular site with the MCC along with several other motorhome clubs, so we have already asked them to pencil a rally date for 2023! If anyone knows a SWPG member who does not access Facebook and the website, do please act as 40 MOTOR CARAVANNER April 2022

S&W WALES Hello again, many thanks to Muriel Butt for her help in reporting the Kidwelly rally which was much appreciated as we were unable to attend. The first rally of 2022 was from 4-6 March and we had a lovely venue to kick off the year with a St. David’s Day theme. There were 25 vans including the hosts Sue and Keith and Muriel and Dave with 6 new members Jenny and John Smedley, Helen and Adrian Gwillam, and Debbie and Lyn Davies, also regular guests Margaret and David Smith from the Avon group. We were lucky with the weather as it was dry and fairly sunny, although very cold. The venue is great for winter rallies and the heated hall and tea and coffee on tap makes socialising all the more comfortable. It was lovely to see the members catching up with friends old and new after what we have all been through. Friday evening there was a few games of bingo a singsong with John Davies and an opportunity to meet the new members and make sure they felt welcome. Although Kidwelly is a small town, it has a great café which was very busy on Saturday morning and there was also a craft fair, in and around the town, giving us the opportunity to walk off some of the calories from a lovely breakfast. Saturday evening we had food and drink from Wales, a few more games of bingo and a quiz with a Welsh theme from Keith. There was also the raffle for the quilt, donated by Mel back in August last year, in aid of the Wales Air Ambulance which is our nominated charity. It was supposed to have been raffled at the new year rally but obviously that never went ahead so this was the first opportunity to do so. It raised a magnificent £300 for the charity and was won by Rowena from the Avon group. Thank you to everybody who bought a ticket. It is for a very good cause and the cheque will be on its way to them this week.

Sunday morning came all too soon and time for coffee and the main raffle, thank you to all the members who so generously donated prizes and last but not least the lucky van was won by Trish and Adrian Buck. Many thanks to all who stayed back to put the furniture away and help with the cleaning it was very much appreciated. Upcoming rallies: 1-3 April: Dan-yr-Ogof Caves, Abercraf, SA0 1GJ, amazing venue, starts 2pm. 14-19 April: Buttyland Manor, Manorbier, SA70 7SN, Easter weekend, starts 2pm. 28 April-3 May: Sully Sports & Social Club, CF64 5SP, May Bank Holiday weekend, starts 2pm. 13-15 May: Ross on Wye Rowing Club, HR9 7DD, starts 2pm. 1-6 June: Aberystwyth Rugby Football Club, SY23 1HL, starts 2pm.

SUSSEX Firstly, we have to congratulate 66-year-old Jim Spring for his successful mammoth task of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of the Prostate Project. If you see him on your travels, I’m sure he can pass on any late donations which can be taken until September. Thanks to Kent for a terrific Valentine's Weekend where we all had a great time. Good attendance at Tillingbourne where hosts Kim and Martin kept the brains ticking over with a couple of 'B' quizzes (all the answers started with B!). Then, Teresa and Peter took over with card bingo for amazing amounts of money. Sussex and West Wessex shared the sum of £8 then Phil Gilliat-Smith (Kent) helpfully shuffled the pack… Then, he and Mel went on to win three times… the princely total of £10! Drinks are on them! And Molly will get a special treat for allowing them out! Our Easter Rally is fully booked and we have a reserve list. We thank all of you for your support. 15th to 24th May sees us at The Barn (Lancing) and Fairfields (nr Pevensey). Both are bookable at linda. reading51@yahoo.co.uk. Our Group Forum will be held on Friday 20th at 3pm. Please come along to Fairfields and have your say. If you are coming to the National, please let Carole (07769 944009) know ASAP. WEST WESSEX Although there were five cancellations due to illness, 29 vans arrived at our TCS at Herston Yard Farm in Swanage. There were 14 West Wessex, 3 West Country, 4 Avon, 3 Severn Valley, 2 East Wessex, 1 East Midlands and 2 Sussex. We welcomed East Wessex members, Mike and Renata, to their first ever rally with MCC. There were walks, taxi rides or steam train rides into town to explore the shops, listen to the music in the pubs and clubs or stroll on the sandy beach. On Thursday evening we had a fun quiz and raffle in the bar and

then barman, Alfie, took the mic and entertained us, encouraging everyone to singalong to Elvis and other favourites to round off a brilliant evening. There were Blues Bands playing in the bar on two evenings and one lunchtime as part of the town’s “Blues Festival”. Many of us enjoyed a huge and delicious Sunday lunch in the site restaurant and then either retired to the motorhome for a nap or went for a walk to make room for supper! The fully serviced pitches were surrounded by beautiful views and the friendly, helpful staff at the site pulled out all the stops to ensure our stay was a huge success despite some dubious weather. Our Easter TCS is at St. Michael’s School, Colehill, Wimborne, BH21 7AB from 14-19 April. After settling in on Thursday, we are holding our Charity Auction on Friday. Please bring all your donations for the sale, and your wallets to buy other lots! Remember, we sell anything from Peppa Pig paddling pools to TV’s and jigsaws to raise funds for our charity! This is always an evening not to be missed. On Saturday evening, we will serve filled jacket potatoes, followed by a disco to dance the night away. On Sunday, a roast lunch will be followed by an Easter Egg Hunt to give you a chance to walk off your lunch. In the evening there will be fun and games with a ‘Chinese Raffle’. Please bring

GROUP NEWS a WRAPPED prize for this - anything from a tin of beans to an unwanted tiara will do! On Monday afternoon, there will be an Easter Bonnet Parade with a cream tea and in the evening, there will be music and a raffle. We are hoping to raise a good sum for the charity whilst having a brilliant time. The cost is £70 to include food on Saturday and Sunday. We hope to see you there. YORKSHIRE We had a good turnout for our Valentines rally at Wetherby racecourse, 38 vans joined us including 4 East Midlands, 1 northern counties, 1 Lancashire, 1 South West Wales, 1 North West Midlands, we were also joined by 3 new Yorkshire members and a few first-time members from other groups. It was great to see new and old members. On Friday night, we all enjoyed catching up, playing bingo, a quiz and music. A good night had by all. On Saturday, we had a lot of rain but this did not stop many of our members walking into Wetherby, with many having to walk over a couple of planks that had been placed over a very large puddle which you could not get round. We enjoyed a quiz and a game of Mr and Mrs, in which 6 couples took part, the winners Sylvia and Chris scored 10/10 well done. Sunday morning had a coffee morning before everyone set of home on a very wet and dreary day. Thankyou to Carol and Malcolm Core for hosting. hen it comes to Motorcaravan road trips, America has Route 66 and Scotland has the North Coast 500. Further south, in the bottom right hand corner of England, there is the A272! You may scoff, but before you do, name any other English crosscountry road that has a book written about it. The A272 does! Dutchman Peter Boogaart wrote an “Ode to a Road” that achieved an almost cultlike readership and became the inspiration for a TV programme. Published in 2000, and still available today, it was described by one reviewer as “a most eccentric and fascinating guidebook ever.” The text was even chosen for English A-level study in 2006. Originally conceived to link the ecclesiastical city of Canterbury to that of Winchester, the A272 in fact starts near Uckfield in East

Motorhome friendly Canterbury

Sussex and crosses the heartland of the southern Home Counties passing through some of the most beautiful and historical landscapes in the country. This cross-country highway passes through Piltdown, Haywards

Heath, Cuckfield, and Billingshurst, each offering its own stopover temptation to the motorhome driver. Petworth is home to Petworth House and a divine selection of antique shops, while Bolney has a wine estate to explore. Drive along the roads of Kent and Sussex during cherry season and just about every layby and off-road pull-in will boast a pop-up cherry stall. Later, strawberries and raspberries take their rightful place. The region boasts no less than eight cathedral cities one of which, Portsmouth, houses two cathedrals! Motorhome friendly Canterbury even has an Aire-like policy that allows motorcaravans to overnight in specially allocated bays in municipal carparks Because we are island hopping, we left the A272 at Petersfield and headed for the Royal Navy port of Pompey or Portsmouth as >> April 2022 MOTOR CARAVANNER 45

Efficient, cheerful crew loaded us quickly, giving us special treatment because of our height and length. Just be sure to follow the signs for motor caravans rather than cars when you approach the check-in. Departure was on time and St Clare made her way sedately over smooth waters to the island port of Fishbourne. The onboard café, with its servings of island produce, provided an auspicious tasting of good food to come. 45 minutes Ventnor beach, Isle of Wight

few! Not far from the ferry port was Quarr Abbey, a delightful oasis of peace, quiet and tranquillity. Here Benedictine monks carry on with the devotional duties and care for their surroundings while inviting the likes of us to enjoy them without charge. There’s plenty to do and see here from feeding the pigs farmed by the monks to visiting the fascinating museum which explains, so well, how the monks came to be here in the first place. Don’t forget to visit the Abbey farm shop for a selection of wonderful island food stuffs. It was in the shop that we got our second glimpse into the wide range of locally produced foods, wines and spirits that are available on the Isle of Wight. Here indeed was proof that the island is truly a foodie’s paradise and, over the days that followed as our journey progressed, that favourable impression was reinforced at almost every stop. Not far from the Abbey, is the Wishing Well Inn. On the surface, a

Get your timing right and you can get to taste their signature gin, a salted vodka and the Royal Navy approved overproofed rum that has been infused with timbers from one of Britain’s most famous warships HMS Victory. Our own personal favourite was the Mermaid Pink Gin in its gloriously distinctive glass bottle. Don’t dismiss the appeal of visiting a garlic farm. Taste, smell, look, learn, and discover. The Boswell family have been growing garlic here for over 30 years but judging by the relics, ruins, and archaeological finds hereabouts, it is evident that man has been farming this part of the island for the last 6000 years. Our food quest continued with visits to the Isle of Wight deer farm, Goddards Brewery, The Isle of Wight Cheese Company and the Green Barn where Michelle and Richard Stevens keep and milk a herd of goats. These goats produce delightful cheeses, milk, and Kefir. The on-site, eclectically stocked gift shop even sells goats' milk soap that Michelle makes herself. If you >>

If you’re still hungry then head over to the Briddlesford Farm dairy where they make butter and cheese, using milk from a herd of pedigree Guernsey cows. The quality and flavour of which is so good it came to the attention of TV celebrity chef James Martin who was so inspired by the farm and its produce that he created recipes that especially feature them. The Griffin family run a delightful farm shop and a stonkingly good restaurant called Bluebells. We can recommend the veal burger and veal lasagne. Time your visit right and you can eat lunch before watching the cows being milked and if you have to wait

for that to happen, the farm's very own museum showing dairy farming through the ages is well worth a visit. By now, you will have noticed that we have tasted island dairy produce, venison, veal, beers and spirits and you may be wondering why we have not yet sipped a glass of wine. We put that wrong to right at the Adgestone winery located in the island’s highlands. Here, at what is, the U.K.’s longest continually worked vineyard, there are over 10,000 vines lovingly cared for by Russ and Philippa Broughton who, with their family and friends, create an amazing selection of wines that are truly excellent. Driving on the island is easy. Roads are well-signed and, in most cases, well maintained but, drivers intimidated by single track road with passing places may find it difficult to visit all of the attractions mentioned here. Driving Voyager, our long wheel-based Ducato, was hassle free, but larger motorhomes may have more of a problem. The island and its people welcome tourists and certainly make those who visit driving a motorcaravan most welcome. Check out the Motorhome Friendly Parking section of our club handbook, and you will find the island has entries whose numbers far exceed those of other parts of the country. It has to be said however, that with the rest of the UK happily – and enthusiastically – embracing the staycation revolution brought about by Covid, the phenomena may have passed the islanders by! LeoBay is quite unique as it is a campsite with fitting facilities, so if there’s that little something you need doing from replacing a bulb to a complete conversion we do it all. Our experience goes back 40 years. Our core experience is in auto electrics and vehicle security as well as vehicle diagnostics, we use factory diagnostic software to solve your problems. Trained in both vehicle and mains voltages we can also inspect and test your mains hook up too! Gas that’s no problem either! Now there’s a service that makes life simple, so next time you need help, come and stay at LeoBay, a nice cuppa on arrival, we will sort your problems while you relax on our 1st class site. There’s even a courtesy vehicle to use during your stay at LeoBay! LeoBay is a site in a million, completely built by us and independent, so all are

welcome whether you’re a club member or not. We have drawn on our 25 years as motorhomers, collating all the best bits from the many sites we have visited over the years. The pitches are all wide hardstanding, with a 10amp hook up and your own grass area to spread out on, the site sits up on a hill over looking the sea with amazing views. On site facilities include a unique summer kitchen, where everyone can chat, relax and eat under cover, there’s a barbeque and pizza oven for you to use, or sit and relax by the open fire with a bottle or two. We like to make sure you’re warm and comfortable so the shower block is heated, with two large rooms, and to top it off the gardens are just splendid. Pets are welcome; the dog walks along the shore are great, there’s plenty of wildlife to watch. So as you can see it’s well worth a visit at just £18 per night all in.

OUT & ABOUT March, we were disappointed that so many campsites and facilities were closed, with many clearly only happy to offer a short May to October opportunity. This is really rather sad because the island has so much to offer outside the summer season, yet most attractions defiantly refuse to take advantage of very proactive efforts made by the excellent tourist authorities who do a wonderful job of promoting the island's appeal. We stayed in campsites that were open the year round and they made us very welcome. The Waverley Park Holiday Centre is a hands-on, family run business located in East Cowes. The terraced hillside site is well laid out, so as to offer touring motorcaravans, stunning views across the Solent. It is wonderfully close to Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s summerhouse that is open to the

public. Run by English Heritage, this is a treat not to be rushed. Our advice is to stay an extra day at Waverly Park and use it to thoroughly enjoy everything that the Queen's former residence and its grounds have to offer. You will not be disappointed. When we designed Voyager, we did so knowing we enjoyed camping in the wild. So, we were delighted to find, and stay at, Camp Wight which offers some of the cheapest overnight accommodation on the island. Motorcaravan touring sites are both off grid and back to basics. They boast big plots and a sustainable environment that is a million miles away from the manicured lawns and tarmac so many other campsites offer. your stay. The campsite has access to bridlepaths, the Tennyson Trail and other fabulous trekking and cycle paths that cross the islands beautiful landscape, this is the place to let go – lose yourself and find yourself at the same time. This is the spot to fill the fire-pit, with wood, gather round the flames, and sip a tipple of something good while watching the stars cross darkened skies. This is a spot to feel good about. The campsite is just two miles from the Wightlink ferry port at Yarmouth, where we caught our ferry to the mainland port of Lymington. Yarmouth harbour is constantly buzzing with nautical activities as yachting folk come and go. Many sail here just to visit and enjoy the hospitality offered at the famous Bugle Inn – and why not? We did, and really enjoyed well cooked food and a pint or two of ale locally brewed on the island. We bade a sad farewell to the Isle of Wight with a heavy heart but one thing we know for sure: We will return.

We recommend that you have your habitation checked annually. Key points checked during a habitation inspection include: 12 volt electrics, gas, mains electric, water system, body work, water ingress.

Water ingress is the most under-estimated factor in a motorhome, and can be costly when not treated in time. Our engineers can help prevent and successfully repair damage caused by damp.
