Vernon Blackmore and his team have now been at the Anchor for more than ten years. Our o ering has developed into what we feel a quayside pub should be. Great beers, a friendly warm welcome, food that you would expect in a good British hostelry with additional dishes that reflect our backgrounds and passion.
We want you to feel the history in the pub, so we’ve been very careful not to remove the old charm and character. The floor tiles may have been professionally cleaned, but they are still wobbly and remind you of sailors past spilling beer on them.
However, a pub is about people, so come and enjoy it with us and let us welcome you in. Check out our website (displayed at the bottom of the page) for full details of opening times, menus and events.
The Anchor in Woodbridge is part of the portfolio looked after by Vernon Blackmore and his team. Also check out our country pubs: The Easton White Horse, IP13 0ED and The Duck, Campsea Ashe, IP13 0PT.

With two rotating local cask ales, our very own house ale and an always changing craft beer tap, our pride for our cellar shines through.
Our cherished pub lies snug in the heart of the Gipping valley in the historic High Street of Needham Market. As you step through the door, you’ll be welcomed by the rustic charm of weathered oak beams, the hubbub of locals and, depending on the British weather, a cosy crackling fire or doors open to our sunny terrace and garden.
Winter or summer, at our pub community isn’t just a word; it’s our way of life. Our fantastic team take care to make you feel at home, whether it’s for a pint of locally-brewed ale and a catch-up with friends, or a family meal before an afternoon by the Needham Lakes. Our cellar o ers old favourites alongside guest ales and our menu showcases delicious seasonal treats together with the dishes you know and love.
But it’s not just about food and drink; for us it’s about creating experiences. We are famed locally for our events, from quiz nights to intimate acoustic music sessions and summer barbecues, there’s always something happening. Here, everyone (and their four-legged friends) is welcome and we hope each visit feels special. We look forward to seeing you!
