ello lovely readers, and welcome to another issue of Your London Wedding. We’re well into autumn now, and I’ve loved every second of this beautiful season. There’s nothing better than strolling hand-in-hand through the forest this time of year to get some fresh air while enjoying nature. Plus, I’m a jumper girl at heart, and love wrapping up warm. The scenery has embraced shades of orange, red and yellow this time of year, which creates the ultimate backdrop for weddings. For those tying the knot during autumn, embrace the rich tones and seasonal foliage in your venue styling. Think sunflowers, berries, acorns, dahlias and hydrangeas, which can be transpired throughout your stationery, florals and cake too! My favourite season is just around the corner, and I couldn’t be more excited to welcome winter. I can picture it now, getting cosy on the sofa with a blanket and hot chocolate while watching my favourite Christmas films. The treats will be in, and the candles will be lit as the darker evenings approach. It’s such a magical time of year with plenty of family time, food, festive cheer and friendly competition with must-have board games – scrabble anyone? This issue is bursting full of inspiration, thanks to the wonderful suppliers around the region! We have wedding must-haves, drawdropping weddings, showstopping venues, expert advice, gowns galore and top honeymoon destinations. Flick to our beauty pages to discover the latest product launches and wellness advice, or discover all the latest happenings from around the city in our news feature. No matter where you’re at with wedding planning, there’s something for everyone. That’s all from me; happy planning!

YOUR ESSENTIALS
JEWL OF THE AISLE London-based jewellery brand Loveness Lee has introduced the new Mushroom Collection, an 18-piece jewellery adventure with texture-filled designs paired with the largest combination of lab-grown gemstones the brand has ever created – it’s perfect for boho or rustic-themed weddings. Inspired by the beauty within, owner Loveness foraged an array of curious-looking wild mushrooms from the forest floor while on her morning run. After bringing them back to her OXO Tower studio, she plucked underneath each pillow-like shell to uncover intricate patterns and forms. Working closely with her team, she used their signature wax
casting technique to capture the textures, then formulated how each casting could be transformed into wearable art using her unique eye for design. Luxury gemstones were added to extenuate each texture, including cushion-cut blue sapphires, octagon-cut green emeralds and brilliant-cut moissanites. The collection highlights include signet-style rings like never seen before, signature choker necklaces and the Eryngii necklace with handcrafted link-like textures. PRE-WEDDING DATE NIGHT AT THE DORCHESTER Nestled on the doorsteps of Hyde Park, The Dorchester is conveniently located in the heart of London and is home to one of only eight threeMichelin-star restaurants in the UK, Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, where refined elegance meets modern French haute cuisine from the talented head chef Jean-Philippe Blondet. I had the fantastic opportunity to dine at this iconic restaurant that highlights the brilliance of Alain Ducasse, who holds 21 Michelin stars and has an international reputation in the culinary world. After being greeted by the professional staff who showed us to our brown-arched booth in the intimate setting, it was time to indulge in some unforgettable dishes with a seven-course tasting menu with wine pairings. After enjoying some amuse-bouche and a glass of Dom Pérignon P2 Vintage 2004 champagne, it was time for a hand-dived scallop with citrus beurre blanc and Kristal caviar paired with a Filipa Pato Nossa Calcário Branco 2021. The dish was utterly delicious, thanks to the fresh produce and the smooth, delicate texture that leaves you wanting more! Next, we enjoyed an aubergine with smoked sardine and lemon balm washed down with a glass of Domaine Barmès-Buecher 2018 Rosenberg Sylvaner. With well-balanced flavours and beautifully presented, it didn’t disappoint. My favourite was the restaurant’s signature dish with exquisitely cooked lobster medallion, chicken quelles, earthy Périgord truffles and homemade semolina pasta coated in a delicious sauce – it’s been on the menu since 2007! A Louis Roederer Rose 2016 from France was the perfect addition before being served a Domaine de la Tournelle Terre de Gryphées 2020 from France that was fine yet rich and profound. It was beautifully paired with the Cornish turbot, a sweet but mild fish known as the King of the Sea, and a tender sea thong marinated with green anise and sweet apricot. 10
SHINE BRIGHT LIKE A DIAMOND Luxury hotel brand Shangri-La is the first international hospitality brand to partner with Skydiamond, the world’s most sustainable diamond company. Mined from the atmosphere instead of the earth and made to the same quality and carat grading, Skydiamonds are the world’s rarest and first climate-positive diamonds. As part of the collaboration, Shangri-La The Shard has created an exclusive Skydiamond Celebration experience to mark special occasions. Guests who book the package can enjoy exclusive prices for jewellery at Skydiamond and access to the concierge team, who will provide a personalised consultation. They also benefit from private access to a carefully curated collection of rare and dazzling diamonds on the company’s website. Guests can choose between a diamond ring in a setting of their choice or a standalone diamond to personalise later. They can also peruse a selection of earrings, necklaces and other fine jewellery to complement any outfit. Choose from a luxury room or suite overlooking London’s skyline while a dedicated Shangri-La Celebrations Butler takes care of every last detail. Potted plants, sustainable flowers, petals and balloons add a touch of magic to any luxury room or suite. Guests can toast with a bottle of champagne and enjoy a delicious, locally sourced three-course dinner served in the privacy of their room. Rates start from £1,200 per night. Note the diamonds are sold separately. Discover more here: www.shangrilaexperiences.com/skydiamond A first for me was a pigeon from Anjou! Tasty crapaudine beetroot, bottarga and Scan to wasabi accompanied view video the tender meat that was served with a Nestor Cuvee No.2 Cabernet Franc 2020 from Austria, which featured cornelian cherries, blackberries and a nougat note. As a huge cheese lover, I dived into the assortment of French cheeses and Colston Bassett stilton paired with a 10-year-old Dow’s Tawny Port before enjoying a lemon palate cleanser ready for dessert. A fig from Provence was beautifully presented with seaweed, tarragon and fig tree leaf sorbet. I couldn’t recommend Ducasse’s signature rum baba dessert with vanilla cream, an unforgettable heavenly dish! My top beverage of the night was a 2018 Domaine De Montgilet Les Trois Schistes, a sweet wine with marmalade, apricot and notes of honey. We finished the meal with canapé desserts and an assortment of chocolates before meeting the head chef. Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester provided an incredible culinary journey with world-class service and innovative dishes with delicious but subtle flavours. Everything was superb from start to finish, thanks to the faultless service provided by the professional waiting staff. With an insightful knowledge of each dish and an evident passion, they made my experience even more outstanding. It’s a showstopping experience to highlight and celebrate special moments in life – I will be returning in the near future. Discover: www.alainducasse-dorchester.com

REAL WEDDINGS
S
hirin and Steven knew each other from work and became closer over time. Things developed slowly as they got to know each other and realised they shared matching goals and aspirations. Steven proposed back in 2019 at The Shard in London on the eve of the Persian New Year, which occurs on the 20th of March. Shirin is half Persian, so it was a lovely moment that will be treasured for years.
SETTING THE SCENE The couple tied the knot on 11th May 2023 at The Old Marylebone Town Hall, surrounded by loved ones. Their number one goal was to have a day to celebrate love with their favourite people in the world – they achieved just that! The Landmark London was the perfect setting to spend the night before the big day. The bride, her mum and maid-of-honour stayed the night after enjoyed cocktails and dinner locally in Marylebone. They picked somewhere spare for the moment after walking past and thinking it looked nice; it turned out to be the same place Steven and his best man George were having a drink! The bride says, “As we walked past, my mum and maid-of-honour realised before I did and quickly shouted so Steven wouldn’t see me the night before! We couldn’t believe that out of all the locations, we had ended up in the same place at the same time.” The pair love London and its history, so being in the central of the city in such a beautiful building was a dream come true. Steven found The Greenhouses, which had that element of an inside-outside wedding they were after. The breathtaking, intimate setting added a romantic atmosphere thanks to the stunning blooms. A classic London taxi in white not only transported the pair between venues but provided a photographic backdrop. As The Greenhouses already had many beautiful flowers, the pair chose to have white blooms in lots of little vases down the table. Small bags of the bride’s favourite Persian sweets were used for favours, a nod to her Persian heritage and as a nice touch for Stevens’ side of the family to have their first taste. Guests also enjoyed a white classic cake with white roses for a touch of elegance. The bride’s brother is a graphic designer, so he created the invites, place names, thank you cards and welcome signs to the table plan. The designs were black and white with white flowers to match the colour scheme.
LOOKING THE PART The bride wanted a plain, classic dress and fell in love with a Morilee gown – it’s not hard to see why. She says, “I loved the material as it was so light and easy to move in – plus it had pockets! I added sleeves for that extra detail, and I loved the split that added an extra modern touch to the dress. I chose minimal accessories with a pearl bag and shoes with a big bow. I was pleased with my hair and makeup when my whole look came together; I felt excited to finally exchange vows!” Steven wore an ivory velvet tuxedo jacket from Reiss to stand out from the men, who all wore black tuxedo jackets. “I thought he looked incredibly handsome, like something out of a film and he smelt amazing”, says Shirin. The flowergirls and the maid-of-honour wore white to match the bride.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS To keep loved ones entertained, the lovebirds had a trio of violinists before, during and after the ceremony who were fantastic. The team played beautifully and really set the scene for these special moments. The pair felt both excited and relaxed most of the day. It was only right before 31

the ceremony they suddenly got a bit nervous but was fine as soon as they saw each other – they were on a high for the rest of the day! “Seeing my dad at the bottom of the stairs at The Landmark Hotel was a big moment for me”, comments Shirin. She adds, “I suddenly got very nervous waiting to walk down the aisle, and it suddenly got me when I saw Steven – I had to hold back the tears as did he. We laughed a lot during our vows as we got tongue-tied!” Steven didn’t wait until they asked if he’d take Shirin to be his wife; he just said ‘yes’ straight away, and everyone laughed. The bride adds, “Walking along the streets of London after the vows and having our wedding photos taken was surreal! We thought we would be embarrassed, but we were on such a high as everyone was beeping their horns and shouting congratulations – it felt like a film! Steven is brilliant at picking playlists and created all our dinner music. Everyone would be sitting, eating and chatting before a great song like Stand By Me by Ben E. King would come on. Everyone would start singing, which was such a vibe.” The maid-of-honour wrote the bride a letter about their 25-year friendship to read on the wedding morning, which was so lovely and made Shirin very emotional. Her dad, the best man and Steven did fantastic speeches in the evening – they had everyone in stitches! It rained all morning and finally stopped just in time for the ceremony and stayed dry for all the photos. The pair’s photographers Zach & Grace went above and beyond to capture memorable shots. Whether holding items like a bag, flowers, dress or entertaining the children, they couldn’t have helped more. The team put everyone at ease for such great natural photos, and they captured exactly what the newlyweds wanted, which was a day full of laughter and love. The staff at The Old Marylebone Town Hall were incredible; they were so friendly and instantly got rid of any nerves the lovebirds had.
HONEYMOON The pair jetted off to Sani Resort in Greece for 10 nights for their honeymoon. Shirin says, “Steven organised most of it, which was lovely as I normally plan all our holidays. We had the most amazing time away as the staff were incredible. We didn’t have to lift a finger and could spend plenty of time together enjoying the lovely weather and food, so it was perfect. A highlight was a boat trip out to the lagoons and jump off into the clear blue sea.”

hese lovebirds met one another while working at Jack Wills while both at university – the rest is history! Emily says, “We decided to get married while travelling in Iceland and staying at the Blue Lagoon Hotel in October 2021. We realised our 10th anniversary would be in October 2022 and decided it would be fun to get married then. It’s slightly unconventional but exactly who we are.” Here the bride shares details about their wedding… 37
I’d always imagined getting married at The Old Marylebone Town Hall; it’s intimate and relaxed. I love the entryway, hallway clad in marble and the Knightsbridge Room.

The bridesmaids wore black dresses for that chic and sophisticated look.
We’d arranged for our dog Penelope to be there as we entered the ceremony space, which made us feel relaxed and calm. 38
We wanted a wedding where all our favourite people would have fun! James always said he wanted a room where he could say without hesitation that he loved everyone there, and this suited our plans of having a guest list of 30 in the day and 40 in the evening.
We always wanted an intimate wedding in our home city; we’re both big foodies and are obsessed with chef Ottolenghi. We were so excited that we could book one of his restaurants for our wedding reception.
James has been a member of The Reform Club for a few years, which feels like a different world, and were thrilled to host our drinks reception there.
REAL WEDDINGS
Our wedding was about good food, free-flowing drinks and great company. Having all our favourite people and our pug in the same room was so special.
James is super into tailoring and menswea r! He finished off his outfit with a pair of black shoes from Crockett & Jones, a white shirt from Eton and a tie clip from Dunhill.

We sped off to Paris on the Eurostar for five days after our big day, which was brilliant as the city is one of our favourite places.
For our honeymoon, we went to South Africa for three weeks! We loved staying in Franschhoek at Babylonstoren, experiencing the wine region Cape Town, visiting the De Hoop Nature Reserve hiking in Plettenberg Bay and the safari in Kruger.

REAL WEDDINGS
BLOOMING Laura and Mike’s elegant wedding featured beautiful florals Images courtesy of Eloise & Mitch
T
hese lovebirds have been together since they finished secondary school almost 20 years ago. After many wonderful years together, the pair finally got engaged! Laura says, “Mike always said it was a case of when he would pop the question and not if, while keeping in mind that I wanted the proposal to be very us and involve the children. So on Christmas day, my daughter asked me to open a toy while my son filmed the moment I discovered the ring!” 43
I wanted it to be a stressfree day and for everyone to feel comfortable.
The Greenhouses is a simply stunning reception venue! I’d only seen the venue on social media a couple of times but never for a wedding. I had my make-up done by the Bobbi Brown team; my MUA Jen was amazing! I popped a couple of my favourite products in a bag for all of the ladies and made gift boxes of fidget toys for the children.
The morning had been perfect! I was just so excited to get married and see our guests. I was obsessed with my hair and makeup; it looked much better than I’d ever imagined. 44
REAL WEDDINGS
Mike wore a suit from Moss Bros, which suited the theme perfectly – he looked so handsome!
I sent a photo of my bouquet inspiration to Floward, and the team knew exactly what I wanted!
The flowergirls wore dresses from Angel & Rocket, and the boys wore linen shorts from John Lewis & Partners and shirts from Gap and Nike. I chose to wear a jumpsuit from ME+EM because I wanted to feel very much like me and comfortable enough to have fun with the children – especially on the steps at The Old Marylebone Town Hall.
My best friend made our cake, which I wanted very simple. Of course, we opted for chocolate cake!
I’d had my eye on my jumpsuit for a while and never considered it for the wedding – I loved it from the moment I tried it! 45
I wore a Gigi & Olive veil, which was only meant for a little fun, a Forever New heart bag and Zara shoes.
Everyone says their wedding day flies by and that they didn’t get the chance to enjoy it, but I can hand on heart say I got to enjoy every second – it was unbelievable.
We moved into another greenhouse in the evening at our reception venue, where we danced the night away.
We chose not to have speeches, as we plan on having another reception soon with all our loved ones. But Mike said a few special words that really meant the world. Something that was magical was our son choosing to do a reading, which was such a brave thing for him to do! We had a family trip to Marbella following the wedding for our honeymoon.
We didn’t have any champagne. Instead, we had Limoncellos and Tequila – I always had a Margarita in hand! The Greenhouses win for cocktails.

Beauty queen
We chat to Hannah Martin about her new book, Makeup, and all things bridal beauty
H
annah Martin is a world-class make-up artist to the stars and one of the most respected professionals in the industry. With 15 years experience, she works her magic everywhere from catwalks to masterclasses, as well as creating looks for industry giants such as L’Oréal Paris, Clé de Peau Beauté and SpaceNK. In February 2020, she joined Channel 5’s revamped 10 Years Younger in 10 Days as its resident beauty expert, where her life-changing makeovers were an instant hit with audiences. A YouTube sensation with more than four million views, Vogue hailed her the queen of radiant skin and smoky eye tutorials while her social channels are a treasure trove of easy make-up tips and tutorials for novices and seasoned professionals alike. Now, Hannah shares her expertise in a new must-have book: Makeup. CWM beauty editor Kelly Andrews caught up with her at the time of its launch to tap into her wealth of knowledge on bridal beauty and skin prep know-how. Congratulations on the launch of your book. What can you tell us about it? Thank you! I’ve always been passionate about helping people do their make-up and understand how products work and how to master different application techniques so it was the logical next step to put everything I’ve learnt over the last 20 years onto paper, creating a resource people can either read from cover to cover or dip in and out of as and when they want to. I hope the result is an easy-to-read guide for those interested in make-up.
Some of the work you’re most famous for is creating flawless bridal make-up for Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice. Are there any elements of these royal looks that our brides could apply to their own for the big day? I want to help all my brides achieve a beautiful make-up look that will last all day and make them feel amazing. I’ve mainly worked on the basis that bridal make-up should be timeless and not dated by trends. I suppose the looks I’m best known for are more on the natural side but I have a little secret: natural make-up doesn’t mean minimal, it’s just make-up that allows a person’s natural beauty to shine through. It means a sheer base so you can see your skin, eye make-up that frames without overwhelming, and lip and cheek colours that enhance the tones naturally present in the skin. Brides need their make-up to last all day. How can they make sure it doesn’t slide of their faces by the speeches? It starts at skin care. I love rich plumping moisturisers but on a wedding day it’s advisable to use light layers of water-based hydration so your skin is moisturised but not slippery, meaning products have a better grip. Light layers of concealer and foundation worked in well lasts significantly better than thick layers, and setting powder is essential. I know a lot of brides don’t like to use powder but a little under the eyes, around the nose and chin will lock the base in place before you finish with a spritz of a setting spray. Powder applied with a brush will set lightly, powder applied with a sponge or puff will set even more effectively. Just be sure to use a setting spray that’s made for longevity and not for rehydration because you could inadvertently be adding more moisture, which won’t help it to stay put. 64
There’s an emerging trend for brides to switch up their attire from daytime to evening bash. Can this be applied to make-up too and how can they transform to a party look quickly and easily? I love this trend but I do remind brides that it’s the one day to be as present as possible and not spend all day in the make-up chair, so I like to suggest quick and easy tweaks. The easiest after a quick base touch up is to add a bold lip. A bright red is so fun for brides who like the idea of the impact but don’t want to wear red all day or for the all important first kiss. My other go-to is a smoky eye. The addition of a darker shadow all over the lid and up through the crease with a sparkle shadow pressed on top makes for the most beautiful soft, smoky eye that shouldn’t take longer than about half an hour. I usually do this while the hair stylist redoes the hair.
INTERVIEW
How can our readers ensure their skin is in tip top shape providing the perfect canvas for their W-day make-up artist? The best thing you can do is drink water! Yes cleansing and exfoliating are extremely important but being really well hydrated from the inside out can make a whole world of difference to the skin. I also advise my brides to go easy on the sugar intake in the week leading up to the wedding and to avoid excessively salty food the night before, as this can result in puffiness and water retention on the big day. What I strenuously suggest brides don’t do is try facials or treatments before the wedding that they’ve never tried before. So many times I’ve been confronted with brides who have either had a reaction or their skin has broken out as a result of a treatment they’ve not had before. If you’re in the habit of having facials then by all means continue but don’t have one, or indeed any other new treatment right before the wedding, if you’ve never done so before, as they could have a negative impact on your skin. In your new book you talk about the tools needed for the job. Is there a set of basics that we should all have in our make-up bags? Tools are key when it comes to make-up application. I’m an avid believer in using your fingers if you’re happy to do so but if not then decent brushes make all the difference. It’s a bit like cooking: chopping an onion with a bent, blunt knife is a real challenge but like slicing butter if you have a good quality kitchen knife. The same goes for make-up brushes. As a make-up artist I own hundreds but not everyone needs that many. A base brush for all cream and liquid products (like skincare, foundation, cream bronzer, cream blush); a powder brush (for powder, blusher and bronzer); an angled brush (for eyeliner and eyebrows); and a classic eyeshadow brush are the key essentials along with a decent eyelash curler. A smoky eye is one of your trademarks. How can this be adapted to suit a bridal look? When I create a smoky eye for a bride I tend to keep the shades I use a little softer than I would for a red carpet moment just to ensure the eyes aren’t lost in too much darkness. I’m obsessed with soft bronze shadows all over the lid with dark brown kohl smudged along the lash line and a few lashes added for a little extra lash density. If bronze isn’t your tone then any muted shade like grey, heather, mink, mocha, mushroom are all gorgeous for a soft smoky eye.
What is it that makes you so passionate about make-up and skincare? I’ve always loved the creativity and art of make-up. I never tire of trying new products and experimenting with trends but as I’ve gotten older I’ve realised that actually what I love most about my job is helping other people feel good about themselves. I’ve had the privilege of seeing complete transformations with clients over the years, there’s something so magical about lavishing someone with your time, care, attention and artistry and seeing someone morph from shy, reserved and lacking in energy to beaming with confidence thanks to liking what they see in the mirror. I can assure you the make-up itself is only partly responsible for the transformation, it’s more about the personal connection made between artist and client. What’s been your career highlight so far? I’ve been lucky enough to have many but one of my greatest accomplishments is my book, Makeup. I’m not an academic and writing has never come easy. In fact I gave up on my dissertation at university because it was all together too much for me, and I ended up getting a diploma instead of a degree. So, to think almost 20 years later I managed to get my words out and actually wrote a book, a book that was number two in the Sunday Times best-seller list no less, is extraordinary to me. What’s next for you? Now that’s a question! I absolutely love what I do and I feel extremely grateful that that’s the case. I loved my time on 10 Years Younger so would always be open to another opportunity in TV but I’ve also loved working with brands on various product development moments and collaborations so I hope to do more of the same. I’d love my own brand one day but the market is so oversaturated at the moment so it won’t be any time soon. Makeup by Hannah Martin is published by HQ, Harper Collins. Available in hardback, £22, and in eBook and audio formats. You can follow Hannah on Instagram at www.instagram.com/ hannahmartinmakeup, and on YouTube at www.youtube.com/BBProHannahMartin
The lips are going to get a lot of attention on the big day! So, what do you suggest to make them perfectly kissable with colour that has staying power? A gentle scrub is imperative the evening before the wedding or at least three hours prior (to allow for any redness to subside). A simple sugar scrub will gently exfoliate the lips so they feel soft and smooth allowing lip balm to absorb efficiently. More importantly lip products will sit seamlessly without any visible cracks or flakes. Be sure to apply balm first thing in the morning as part of your cleansing routine to start the hydration process then again at the very start of your make-up application to make sure the lips are as soft as they can be. Blot away any excess before lipstick is applied. I prefer to line the lips first with long-wearing liners, then fill in with a long-wear liquid lipstick – I find sheer layers best for both comfort and wear. Then, for a soft finish, I press on a creamy lipstick and a tiny bit of gloss so the lips look full and plump. The liquid lipstick underneath acts as an insurance and the colour lasts for hours. A touch-up kit is essential and I always suggest my brides remove all remnants of lip colour, apply some balm, blot, then reapply for the freshest look. 65
Well grounded If wedding planning stress is getting the better of you, take this time-out with Ground Wellbeing’s Peigin Crowley
A
n award-winning spa consultant Peigin Crowley has spent more than 20 years crafting distinctive and transformative wellness products and treats for fivestar luxury properties. But in 2020, her attention shifted to the home. Experiencing the devastating impacts of stress, burnout, loss of identity and disconnection from the natural world, she embarked on a quest to create products and at-home rituals that could easily be incorporated into a daily self-care routine. Today her brand, Ground Wellbeing, continues to grow, focusing on craft and quality over quantity, sustainable business practices and the promotion of accessible and intuitive self-care for all. Committed to the power of touch, the brand’s rituals are created by Peigin to deliver carefully developed massage treatments through her years of work as an aromatherapist, where she gained a deeper sense of empathy, compassion and understanding. She is also dedicated to addressing women’s health issues. Here, Peigin tells us how to tackle wedding planning stress and build an effective self-care routine amidst a hectic schedule.
sure you’re both on the same page. Always remember the why – remind yourselves why you’re getting married in the first place. Focus on the love and commitment you share rather than getting lost in the details of the event.
TIME TO RECONNECT I think it’s really important to understand how we wake into the day, and how we go to sleep at night. Our first 10-15 minutes of the morning as we wake up into the day are crucial in terms of our attitude, intention and breathwork, as well as just being kind to ourselves. Likewise, at the end of the day, using aromatherapy products to help you slow down, helps invite sleep and gives you a moment to reconnect with yourself. So, those would be the two most important times of the day to remember to look after yourself, then you can build your self-care routine from there. When we’re busy, we can tend to forget to look after ourselves. We need to recognise the importance of self-care and make it a nonnegotiable part of our daily or weekly schedules. Understand that taking care of yourself is not a luxury but a necessity.
BETTER TOGETHER The first thing to say is that it’s natural to be overwhelmed and stressed in the run up to your wedding. It’s a really important day and you want all your friends and family to enjoy it. Acknowledge these feelings with each other and book out time each week to go on a walk or do something together. Take some time out where you don’t speak about the wedding at all! Do something else to take your minds off it, relax and focus on each other. Prioritise self-care routines individually and as a couple: go for a massage, have a treatment together, or just relax and de-stress. Even just running each other a bath and making sure you acknowledge the stress and really looking after each other is helpful. Communication is key, so voice concerns with one another and make

WINTER WINDS What advice can you share regarding finding a winter wedding gown? Consider layers and look for gowns with removable sleeves or detachable skirts to enjoy the versatility of having different looks throughout the day while staying warm. Layers can also add depth and visual interest to your gown. Accessorise with winterthemed accessories like a luxurious faux fur wrap or a cashmere shawl for a touch of elegance and sophistication. Long-sleeved gowns are an excellent choice for winter weddings as they offer an extra layer of warmth and can be incredibly stylish. To add a romantic touch, look for gowns with beautiful lace or intricate embellishments on the sleeves. Opt for rich textures to complement the winter ambience. Fabrics like velvet, tulle or embroidered lace can add depth and visual interest to your gown, making it stand out during your winter wedding. Consider a fitted silhouette, which can work wonders in colder temperatures while avoiding bulky layers. Pair it with a stylish coat or cape for a dramatic entrance and warmth. Remember the footwear, as winter weddings often require suitable footwear for slippery surfaces. Consider closed-toe or boots with a low or block heel for style and comfort. Embellish with lace or sparkle to match your gown. Be open to unique colours! While white and ivory are traditional for weddings, don’t be afraid to explore other shades like blush, champagne or even rich jewel tones. Remember to try different styles and work with bridal consultants who can help you find the perfect winter wedding gown based on your preferences. YOUNG LND REVIEW As we entered the winter months, the dropping temperatures and harsh winter winds have hugely impacted my skin, leaving dry patches and dull skin behind. Young LDN came to my rescue with its iconic Fire and Ice treatment designed to resurface the skin. Nestled on Notting Hill’s iconic streets, the team has taken beauty and skincare to the next level with various offerings to help clients look and feel beautiful. They’re on a mission to educate and inspire clients of all ages with a five-star service and the latest technology. Clients can pick from acclaimed beauty, skin and body treatments for the ultimate pampering sessions. As I entered the award-winning facility, I was welcomed to a calming space away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. After being greeted by my wonderful beauty therapist, we discussed my skincare concerns before diving in. I struggle with congesting, especially around my nose and chin areas. So, we decided some extractions would help to achieve the best results – spoiler alert, it worked a miracle! The treatment started with a deep cleanse and exfoliation to prepare the skin for the Intensive Resurfacing Masque, formulated with sugar cane extract and vitamins A and B3 to help decrease the appearance of fine lines while healing the skin, preventing breakouts and retaining its moisture content. This is where the fire part kicked in due to the active ingredients, but it’s only a slight tingle and nothing too intense. An Intensive Resurfacing Masque followed, formulated with strong antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, green tea, grape seed and rosemary extract. The concoction of ingredients helps hydrate the skin, reduce hyperpigmentation and help control oil production. It was time for a hand and arm massage while this sank in, where I felt my worries melt away before some red-light therapy to help boost skin collagen. My favourite part of the treatment was the cooling massage balls gliding over my face to help stimulate the skin while reducing puffiness. After the treatment, I noticed an immediate difference that left me feeling beautiful! My skin looked more radiant with faded hyperpigmentation, added hydration and no more blackheads – thank goodness! I received plenty of compliments about my glowing skin over the course of the next few days, and I didn’t need to wear any make-up for at least two weeks. I loved how my knowledgeable beauty therapist shared priceless skincare advice through the experience. I’ve made some notes, and I’m already noticing a difference in my home routine. The treatment is perfect for all skin types, especially acne-prone or ageing skin. It’s priced at £175 for 60 minutes, which is worth the results – especially before the big day. With no downtime, I took to the streets of London feeling ultra-confident! BOOK IT! 228 Westbourne Grove, London W11 2RH www.youngldn.com 02083 543 970 hello@youngldn.com 67

TIS THE SEASON How can we incorporate winter themes into our bigday cake? There are lots of ways to incorporate winter into your wedding cake. You can opt for a semi-naked design adorned with red flowers, pinecones, holly, ivy leaves and foliage. Or go for that iconic white winter look with snowflakes for the ultimate bake. Alternatively, you can have a sugar paste-covered cake using warm colours such as forest greens, rich reds and deep purples complemented with creams and gold for a timeless look. This pictured design uses an ivory sugar paste with a hint of gold, red silk flowers, deep red ribbon and a beautiful hoop to add the wow factor! Regarding flavours, chocolate is a favourite paired with chocolate buttercream and strawberry/cherry jam. How about adding nutmeg, cinnamon mixed spice and clove to give guests that warm wintery feel? The traditional fruit cake is always a go-to for winter weddings, with a bit of rum to give your guests Christmas vibes! Selina Prescott | Sweet Sils Cakes http://sweetsilscakes.com

JUST THE TWO OF US We’re looking for the perfect honeymoon destination after our winter wedding; what would you suggest? Why not continue the winter theme from your special day? Set on a magical journey to a pristine winter wonderland, think snow-covered mountains and frozen lakes. An option could be to embark on a rail journey through the stunning Canadian Rockies before arriving at your winter wonderland resort in Banff or Whistler. Enjoy the ambience, visit the Snow Festival and participate in winter-themed activities such as heli-skiing or ice skating. Days could end with mugs of warming hot chocolate (or maybe something stronger) and vibesy après ski fun. If you wish to escape the winter and enjoy glorious sunshine, it’s a perfect time to go to the Caribbean. A fantastic option would be to take a trip to St Lucia, voted the world’s romance capital for the past 14 years. There’s a wide range of accommodations, including the prestigious Jade Mountain, one of the most luxurious resorts on the island. You could then take advantage of your gorgeous surroundings and celebrate by adding an exclusive yacht charter under the command of an experienced skipper. Board your yacht in St Lucia and sail with the wind through the Grenadines and onto the island of Grenada, stopping at your leisure to enjoy beautiful pristine beaches, deserted coves, must-see views and delightful local restaurants. What better way to start your married life than by enjoying the dazzling blue Caribbean sea and romantic sunsets? Denise Bent | Fabulicious Travels www.fabulicioustravels.com 69

I want to read a poem at my wedding, but public speaking makes me nervous. How can I make sure the reading goes well? You’re not alone! Even professional poets get nervous about performing for an audience. Here are our top tips to help the nerves… •Choose a poem that really says what you want to say. Get in touch if you’re struggling to find one; we can help the search or even write a poem just for you. •Practice is key! Ideally, record yourself experimenting and listen back to the audio. Try reading at different speeds or putting emphasis in different places to discover what works best. •Bring a printed copy of the poem to the wedding. It’s much easier to read from paper than a phone. •Speak slowly, have water with you, pause occasionally and look up at your audience when you can. •Ensure you relax and remember everyone present is there to celebrate the happy occasion, not judge. Reading at your wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime way to demonstrate your love. We hope these tips help you enjoy the moment! Rachel and Elspeth | Poems for Weddings www.poemsforweddings.com
HEAVEN SCENT I’m looking for the perfect perfume for my wedding day. Do you have any suggestions on where to start? When it comes to planning your special day, selecting your ideal wedding perfume will not only complete your outfit, it will also remind you of the big day for years to come. Scents are renowned for triggering memories, so what better way to remember your momentous and unforgettable occasion than through a new scent? You can, of course, choose whichever fragrance you love. But I’d recommend trying a completely new discovery, something you’ve never worn before. This ensures it has no relation to any previous memory and means the new scent will always transport you back to the special day. You’ll also want a fragrance that will last throughout the day, so opt for an eau de parfum, which has a higher concentration of fragrance oil (around 25 per cent), which typically makes them stronger and longer lasting. Also, look for such notes as patchouli, white musk, sandalwood, tuberose, vetiver, and freesia as these linger on the skin for longer. Check out Lancôme La Via Est Belle, Barbour Female, Carolina Herrera Good Girl Supreme, Jennifer Lopez Promise, Ghost Orb Of Night and Estée Lauder Beautiful – all great bridal fragrances. Alternatively, if you’re struggling to find the perfect scent match, flirt before you buy with The Fragrance Shop scentaddict subscription and choose a new 8ml fragrance each month for £12. They’re also perfect to carry with you on the big day. Hollie Race | The Fragrance Shop www.thefragranceshop.co.uk 70
BLOOMING BEAUTFIFUL We’re thinking of preserving our wedding flowers; what are the benefits? Preserved flowers retain their natural beauty and freshness for an extended period. Unlike fresh flowers that wilt and fade within a few days, preserved flowers can be re-homed on the mantelpiece postceremony. This means you can order them well in advance, reducing lastminute stress and ensuring your floral arrangements are picture-perfect throughout the entire wedding celebration. Preserved flowers offer flexibility in wedding planning. Since they’re not subject to seasonal availability, you can choose your favourite flowers regardless of the time of year. Whether you desire delicate spring blossoms in the middle of winter or vibrant summer blooms in autumn, the blooms allow you to achieve your desired aesthetic without limitations. Fresh flowers can trigger allergies in some individuals, causing discomfort or potential disruptions during the wedding. Using preserved flowers eliminates the risk of allergic reactions and ensures everyone can enjoy the celebration. The blooms offer endless possibilities for wedding styling in bouquets, centrepieces, corsages, boutonnieres and other floral arrangements. Whatever your wedding theme, it pieces can be easily incorporated to complement and enhance the overall aesthetic. Using preserved flowers for your wedding is an eco-friendly choice. The florals undergo a preservation process that involves replacing the natural sap with a preserving solution, allowing them to maintain their appearance for an extended period without needing water or sunlight. It also reduces waste associated with fresh flower arrangements, making your wedding more environmentally conscious. Molly Newcombe | Shida Preserved Flowers | www.shida.florist

When did your passion for hair and make-up start? I’ve always had a passion for art; it was my strongest subject at school, and so I went on to study at Central Saint Martins. My artwork was mainly focused on the human form and its distortion. So, I figured prosthetic make-up was something I could make a career out of. I started freelancing in the film and photographic industry but found my true calling in bridal hair and make-up – I love being part of someone’s special day! When did you start the company? I started as a sole trader/freelancer in 2010 and began building the CJC Hair & Makeup agency in 2014 to give brides the five-start treatment I believe every client deserves. Emotions can run high on the wedding day, so we wanted to ensure that brides feel like they have a friend there. We aim to build confidence and beauty from within for our lovely clients through the care, attention and empowering conversations in the make-up chair. What do you offer nearlyweds? We offer a 30 to 45-minute free, no-obligation video consultation to discuss all things bridal! As well as discussing looks and visions for the day, we can help lighten the load of wedmin and offer support with our little purple book of suppliers if needed. I also created a digital coaching course which takes brides-to-be from stressed out and overwhelmed to in control and confident. Our small boutique agency allows us to cater for larger bridal parties and wedding guests while maintaining focus and care with each of our lovely brides. The team works wonderfully together, creating a lovely energy on a wedding morning. We don’t have a high turnover of artists, and many have been with us since the agency started. What’s your favourite part about the job? It’s got to be nailing that looks both at the hair and makeup trial and then again on the big day when a bride’s face lights up at her reflection in the mirror. There’s no better feeling than witnessing that and knowing that you helped make that feeling of pure joy happen. What’s your top wedding tip? Create space in the day for you both to take some alone time together and process the day as it goes along. This day is a celebration of love, so allow yourself to feel and enjoy that with each other. It’ll be over in the blink of an eye, so taking a few intervals and moments to get the most out of your day! Check out: www.cjchairandmakeup.com

When did my passion for beauty start? It all started at a local college when I was 18! I was in my second year of hairdressing NVQ, and I was entering a ‘Dressing Hair’ award where my style was based on Elisabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice – I ended up winning! This award sparked my passion for dressing hair; I loved tapping into my creative side as regular hairstyling at that time felt more like a job to me. When did you start the company? I started a mobile hairdressing business early aged 19; I dabbled in different salons but hated the atmosphere. I loved people and mobile hairdressing as I could make friendships with my customers and enjoy my work. At that time, I aimed to keep my customers loyal and happy – I had no ambition for more. I fell into bridal and events because of the mobile nature of my business. People wanted someone to come to their home or hotel to get them ready; this is where my bridal business started around 10 years ago! What do you offer nearlyweds? I offer brides a hairdressing journey from their first enquiry and reserve their date before working to bring their hair goals to life while tackling any hair-related problems. I pride myself on being a happy and approachable hairstylist, where my clients feel comfortable speaking with me about anything. As I’m married, I always draw out how the bride feels and contribute to suggestions. What’s your favourite part of the job? I love wedding days when all the ideas have come together and all the vendors create a beautiful wedding atmosphere! It’s always a proud moment to receive the professional images back. What’s your top wedding tip? You have done all the planning possible, so enjoy every moment and always find time with your partner when possible, even if it’s for ten minutes, to soak it all up! ANNA LOUCAH AT ANNALOUCAH FINE JEWELLERY When did your passion for jewellery start? I honestly can’t remember a time when I wasn’t making something. As I learned about the traditions and symbolism of jewellery, I knew that I had found something that would offer me endless fascination and a deep personal connection. When did you start the company? I grew up in Cornwall, far from big brand names or businesses. Artisan makers and craftspeople surrounded me, so starting my small business in my Cornish hometown felt natural. I aimed to immerse myself in what I love and to create work that would be meaningful and cherished. I have always loved the physical process of working with precious metals. As my understanding of the jewellery industry grew, I realised how I source my materials is just as important. As a result, a focus on best ethical practices has been at the foundation of my business for many years. What do you offer nearlyweds? My focus has been almost entirely on bridal and custom-made jewellery. Alongside my made-to-order collections, I also offer a fully bespoke wedding and engagement service. I work closely with couples, advising and guiding them through the process to help them realise their vision, ensuring we create their perfect piece. I try to make this process as light as possible as I understand how daunting it can initially seem! I recently started holding Make Your Own Wedding Rings sessions in my central London studio for those wanting to get involved. What’s your favourite part about the job? It must be the big reveal, the moment the jewellery recipient opens that 74
box for the first time. Seeing their faces light up with such a precious and honest response is what it’s all about for me. When that happens, I know I’ve done my job correctly. What’s your top wedding tip? Remember that everyone in the room is there because they love you and want the best for you. Check out: www.annaloucah.com

When did your passion for beauty start? I was obsessed with 90’s supermodels and the Golden Era of Hollywood – I was probably the only one who loved watching the TCM TV with the classic movies! I would buy whatever magazine was available to check out product recommendations and scan a beauty section for tips and tricks, even though not much was available in stores when I grew up. When did you start the company? I started my first training session 10 years ago while working part-time as an admin in a construction firm. I wanted my life to be more than a spreadsheet; I wanted my job to take me places while creating beautiful looks. What do you offer nearlyweds? I specialise in timeless make-up looks with a modern feel. My clients choose me for my attention to detail, passion for effortless looks and experience. They trust me because I listen to their needs, which always comes up in reviews. What’s your favourite part about the job? My favourite parts are creating the look and the initial inspirational conversation. Translating a look suitable for the bride’s style and personality is critical, as it’s never one size fits all. What’s your top wedding tip? Take your time in the morning, schedule a nice shower/bath or go for a run – wherever calms you down. Ask your make-up artist to come with an assistant for bigger bridal parties to ensure a relaxed morning. Check out: https://skbridalmakeup.co.uk

When did your passion for beauty start? It all started when my nan used to teach me how to plait my dolly’s hair that used to stick to her kitchen door. I always knew I wanted to do hair since infant school and took part in my first wedding at 17 – the rest is history! When did you start the company? I officially started Vanity Lounge in 2014; I aimed to have my own salon and specialise in bridal hair – this came true in 2023! What’s your favourite part about the job? My favourite part is constantly meeting new people and seeing what brides have chosen for their big day. But I also love witnessing the father-of-the-brides first look at their daughters during their special day – I cry every time. What’s your top wedding tip? Try not to stress on the little things and take in every moment because it goes so fast. Also, ensure you steam all dresses before hair and make-up. Check out: www.vlbridallondon.com

Influencer Eyal Booker and his brother Ariel reveal their hair care tips for grooms-to-be
M
odel, TV personality, and influencer Eyal Booker and his brother Ariel Booker have launched Wavy, the Everyday Curl Crème for men. Designed to maintain and enhance curls for all hair types, the everyday cream uses high-quality ingredients and lasts for up to 30 days when used daily. Our grooms’ editor, Melissa Cullen, chatted with Eyal and Ariel to discuss male hair care and the next era of men’s grooming. What do you suggest for grooms-to-be who are conscious about looking after their hair in the run-up to the big day? Don’t do anything drastic or try a new barber or hairdresser; the key is to get your haircut a week or two before the wedding so that if anything goes wrong, there is still enough time for your hair to grow back to your preferred look. It’s important to communicate with your hairdresser about what it is you’re looking for, and then you can go in for a slight touch-up a couple days before the wedding.
People are becoming more conscious of their impact on the environment; how can we choose products that are environmentally friendly but still good for our hair? Always look for brands that are making a conscious effort to be more sustainable. Looking at their packaging is crucial; find a brand that uses sustainable packaging and works towards an eco-friendly future. Most brands are making a conscious effort to be more sustainable and typically mention this on their websites.
How do you recommend styling my hair for the big day? The big day is all about you looking and feeling your best. Go with whatever makes you feel most confident. Our recommendation is to go for a timeless style; your pictures are going to last a lifetime and will remind you of one of the best days of your life, so it’s important that you choose a style that you’re happy with.
What do you consider to be the biggest development in men’s hair in the past five years, and what do you think will be the next big trend? We think it’s within the formulations that are being used. In the past couple of years, consumers have trusted brands, and they weren’t asking any questions. More recently, men have become more aware of the good and bad ingredients and, as such, are looking for them in the products they use. If a brand is quiet about their formulation and/or what they’re putting in their products, the likelihood is that their ingredients are probably not the best for your hair. One in four men in their 30s experiences male pattern baldness. What tips or advice can you give to help men look after their hair and delay this onset? We have noticed that a lot of this comes down to the lifestyle that men have. It’s crucial to make sure that your body is getting the vitamins and nutrients it needs, as this impacts how the body reacts to hair growth. We suggest that males experiencing baldness try taking supplements that strengthen their hair and help it grow back to its potential. This will slow down the balding
process and give men a chance to keep their hair looking its best and, most importantly, feeling its best.

Sitatunga Private Island is a new water-based safari camp in the upper reaches of Botswana’s Okavango Delta. Built on a raised, wrap-around private deck, Sitatunga Private Island can accommodate four adults in two private suites. Constructed almost entirely of recycled materials, the camp offers couples a ‘slow safari’ that is as sustainable as it is luxurious. The suites come complete with an indoor lounge, bathrooms with baths and separate showers, a deck with outdoor lounging and seating areas, as well as a private pool with views over the lagoon. Dereck Joubert, the CEO of Great Plains, tells us: “Sitatunga Private Island is unlike any other Great Plains property, pushing the ecodesign boundary in a remote region in Botswana whilst also offering the highest level of hospitality and accommodation. The Italian dream
Louise Prance enjoys her inaugural visit to Italy, discovering the delights of Sardinia with a stay at the impressive Forte Village
F
or many, when you think ‘honeymoon’ you think white sands, clear seas, sunshine and an abundance of rest and relaxation. But, if you’re anything like me, sometimes you need a little bit more – enter Forte Village, Sardinia. A self-confessed travel addict with eternal wanderlust, I’m ashamed to say that my recent visit to Sardinia was my virgin voyage to Italy. And what an error or judgement that was. Just a hop, skip and a very short two-hour flight from the UK it was clear from touch down that Sardinia lived up to the Italian dream stereotype and then some.
on offer. For me, the focus on health and fitness was an instant draw, there are, wait for it, a whopping 11 pools, a gym, tennis club – the resort offers exciting events such as lessons with tennis legends – football pitches, boxing arena and climbing wall – which induced a severe bout of FOMO from my climbing-obsessed partner back in the UK. If that’s not enough, there’s a plethora of fitness classes available in the ‘FIT-ZONE’ including the likes of HIIT and yoga.
RESPLENDENT IN ITS BEAUTY
The focus on fun doesn’t stop at the exercise offerings, with there being something for all the family. Heading off on a Familymoon? The kids club feels like a separate resort in itself with its own swimming pool, Mario’s Village and, my personal favourite, life-sized Barbie Dreamhouse. Fancy some family activities to enjoy together? The on-site Go Karting and Bowling tick that box nicely.
Those looking for the aforementioned honeymoon vision of sun, sea and sand would be hard pushed to beat this beautiful destination. Giving off Greek island vibes, Sardinia is resplendent in its beauty, with the softest white beaches, dream-like crystal clear oceans, and an impressive history – there are Roman ruins at archaeological site Nora and a network of underground grottos some 530 million years old at the Caves of Is Zuddas, to explore. And of course, there’s the food. With Italy known for its cuisine, Sardinia didn’t disappoint, and neither did the culinary offerings at Forte Village – a resort set in a whopping 50 acres in the South of Sardinia.
FITNESS FIRST While of course exploring the island is a must-do recommendation, when you stay at Forte Village, you really won’t feel like you’ve missed out if you decide to stay put. Village by name, village by nature, the resort emulates a quintessential small Italian town, with residents getting around either by foot or on the quaint bikes provided, where the 21 restaurants (with three boasting Michelin stars) being just the beginning of what’s

LOOKING FOR MORE?
Back to newlywed life, Forte Village’s spa is its shining glory. Loved by the Italian National Football Team, the Thalassotherapy Circuit was perhaps one of the most memorable spa experiences I’ve ever had. Offering six Thalasso pools, the circuit is designed to follow a pre-designed route to generate optimum health benefits. My personal favourite? Pool number one was a magnesium-heavy sea oil pool heated to a balmy 38c. Wearing an inflatable neck pillow you’re encouraged to simply float in the water, which is effortless thanks to the high salinity. I challenge anyone to leave the pool after the recommended 20 minutes feeling anything other than heavenly. The further five pools offer similar blissful experiences, which were only surpassed by the spa treatment I received after. The treatment rooms are set amongst the trees in a private tropical garden, with floor-to-ceiling (one-way) windows providing an awe-inspiring setting. My full body mud treatment left me feeling rejuvenated and relaxed, ready to take on another day in paradise.
For me, a getaway is not complete without a water-based excursion, and Sardinia offers ocean activities galore. However, always up for trying something new, I jumped at the chance to be taken out on a Jeep safari up the Monte Santo di Pula. Led by a knowledgeable guide, we bumped our way to the top of the mountain to take in some wow-factor views. We were then met by local Shephard Roberto, who did a demonstration under the forest canopy of how his family continue to make pecorino the traditional way. Coupled with some delicious red wine and authentic Italian fare, it was a memorable experience. It’s safe to say that Italy didn’t disappoint, with the Sardinian town of Cagliari being a wonderful final destination to explore. And while it may have been my first venture to the country, it certainly won’t be my last. Intoxicated by the setting, people, food and culture, Sardinia, and Forte Village, is a destination that should rank highly on your honeymoon shortlist.
DOWN TIME The endless fitness, spa, food and activity choices aren’t the only things you’ll no doubt have the pleasure of deciding upon at Forte Village, with the accommodation options as wonderfully expansive as the rest of the resort offerings. There are a selection of hotels, suites and bungalows dotted around, each with their own restaurant and pool. The decision between beach front, private garden, terrace, or balcony is where the difficulty will end, with each choice being as decadent as the next. My private garden bungalow was the perfect place to relax in my

As I visited on a Sunday, Yu, the Retreat’s pan-Asian restaurant wasn’t open, but I’ll definitely be back to experience the Japanese fine dining establishment with a reputation not to be ignored! I finished my stay with a full body ‘Made for You’ massage at the Signet Spa. My therapist was able to locate and relax my pressure points leaving me recharged and well cared for. Utter bliss.
