I
’ve worked at County Wedding Magazines for almost seven years now, and I’ve always admired the gorgeous venues, weddings and talented suppliers in the North East, so I’m really excited to introduce myself as the new editor. I don’t know about you, but the older I get, the quicker time seems to fly by. It seems like only yesterday that I was writing about my upcoming wedding, and here we are over a year later. If you’ve recently become engaged and the wedding feels like it’s forever away, trust me, it will be here before you know it. The best piece of advice I can offer is to enjoy the planning process and celebrate the small things. If you’ve said yes to the dress or booked that special venue that you’ve had your eye on, take the time to celebrate – go out on a date, treat yourselves, and make a scrapbook of those key moments. Once the wedding is over, you’ll love having those memories to look back on. It’s been wonderful seeing the wedding industry flourish again this year. I’ve loved seeing nuptials across the UK, businesses beginning to return to normal, and new companies opening their doors, so to celebrate and end the year with a bang, we’ve gone all out with an issue full of must-see venues, photography and wedding dresses.

A NEW LOOK After a successful year capturing weddings across our wonderful region, Durham-based photographer Dash Photography is preparing to launch a new website. “I’m working hard behind the scenes to get the new website ready,” says the owner, Brendan. “I’m looking forward to its reveal this winter with some special offers for 2024 and 2025. Our approach to wedding photography is to produce images that tell the story of your day. We want to capture all of those special moments as they happen without being too intrusive or distracting. We want your day to be about you, but we also want you to have fantastic and creative images that record the emotions of your special day and create memories for you to treasure. We also understand that not every couple is looking for the same style, so we are able to combine our signature style with a traditional approach or a more creative editorial style if needed.” Dash Photography will be exhibiting at the North East Wedding Show at the Hilton Hotel Gateshead on 21st January 2024. If you’re in the area and want to discuss your big day, come down and meet Brendan and lots of other wonderful suppliers. To find out more, visit www.dashphotography.co.uk 9

MIND-BLOWING MAGIC
DATE FOR THE DIARY Blackton Grange in the beautiful North Pennines, County Durham, is hosting a wedding open day on Sunday 24th March, 2024. If you choose to get married at Blackton Grange, you will have exclusive access to the whole estate for two or three nights, depending on the option you choose. This includes the eight-bedroom luxury farmhouse, the Celebration Barn, and access to the surrounding 11 acres of land. If a large wedding is not your thing, several areas in the beautiful farmhouse have also been licensed for ceremonies. This means the two of you can run away to Blackton Grange to elope, giving you the choice to get married in the most intimate way with just the two of you or even bring some guests to help you celebrate. The wedding open day is the perfect opportunity to see Blackton Grange’s beautiful wedding spaces for yourself and talk to the friendly team about how you can personalise your big day. The show will take place between 11am and 3pm. To register your attendance, email weddings@blacktongrange.co.uk For more information about Blackton Grange and its wedding packages, visit www.blacktongrange.co.uk 10
FURRY FRIENDS If you can’t contemplate saying ‘I do’ without having your beloved pooch in the wedding party, then you’ll love Langley Castle’s new doggy chaperone service provided by Mukki Pups Pawfect Days. You can choose how many hours you want your dog to be present, whether or not you want them to just have a brush and spray or a full bath and blow-dry before the wedding, and bespoke packages can also be created. Your dog will be chaperoned for the photos, which at Langley Castle can be in the glorious woodlands, on manicured lawns, in front of the stunning castle building, or even on the 1350 battlements. Collection and delivery of your pooch, pre- and post-event, is included, and pre-wedding chemistry sessions are also built in. Wedding and events co-ordinator, Katie Livingstone-Evans Lowes, says: “We love to see well-behaved dogs at Langley Castle weddings, and, in fact, I had our family dog, George, at my own wedding here. The key thing is to ensure that they feel relaxed and don’t get bored. By providing them with a chaperone with whom they have already become familiar, you can make sure their tail is wagging all day without putting the onus of looking after them on any friend or family member who just wants to enjoy the wedding.” Head to www.langleycastle.co.uk to find out more.

DURHAM AND AROUND SEAHAM HALL, SR7 7AG 01915 161 400 | www.seaham-hall.co.uk Seaham Hall is a Georgian country house hotel that dates back to 1791. Over the years, the house has seen many owners, but in 1985, it was converted into a hotel. It was acquired by an independent hospitality group in 2012 and became the striking building we see today. Rich in heritage and decorated in a contemporary style, the property is home to a collection of bedrooms, each one different from the next, but all featuring luxuries and unbeatable views. There are two fabulous restaurants. The Dining Room, headed up by chef Damian Broom, serves dishes inspired by the rugged North Sea and glorious Durham countryside. While the pan-Asian restaurant, Ozone, is where you can sample warming curries, vibrant stir-fries, and tempting tapas selections in a theatrical setting. Celebrate in style Whether your guest list is two or 122, Seaham Hall can accommodate your big day. The Annabella Room can hold up to 20 of your nearest and dearest. This room has modern facilities and is tucked away in a quiet corner of the hotel. With floor-to-ceiling windows providing plenty of natural daylight and views over the fabulous gardens, the space is perfect
for intimate celebrations and private dining. Located on the ground floor of the main house, The Ballroom has direct access to the south-facing terrace and spectacular views of the stunning grounds. This room is wonderful for weddings of up to 100 loved ones. Adjacent to The Ballroom is a private bar, making this ideal for a breakout area or drinks and canapés. A bright space offering panoramic views of the grounds, The Garden Room features a top-quality smart TV, integrated AV, and a tele-adapt media hub. This room is ideal for a variety of events, including arrival drinks and dinner with up to 30 friends and family. We love... The award-winning Serenity Spa is an inspiring wellness retreat that draws influence from Far Eastern healing rituals. New for 2023 is the Blue Health Spa and Wellness Package, part of Seaham Hall’s ongoing commitment to harnessing the mental and physical benefits associated with close proximity to the coast. The new packages and treatments have been carefully formulated, taking inspiration from the hotel’s stunning surroundings and the natural landscapes of the Durham Heritage Coast. Seaham Hall offers a range of day and overnight spa experiences to choose from, perfect for some pre-wedding pampering.

BRANCEPETH CASTLE, DH7 8DE 01913 789 670 | www.brancepethcastle.org.uk Brancepeth Castle is a Medieval castle near Durham that was first constructed in the mid-12th century. Over time, the property changed hands and uses until it became a family home open to visitors on a number of days each year and for public events. Celebrate in style If you’re looking for a picturesque setting with the opportunity to personalise your day, the castle is ideal. From the moment you receive your guests until the last dance is over, it’s up to you to decide the look, the timetable, the menus, the entertainment, and all the little details that make your wedding uniquely yours. On the ground floor, there are four principal reception rooms, each with a different character and 16
style. Features include waxed oak floors, high vaulted ceilings, and working fireplaces. Linking anterooms and numerous access points to the courtyard let you combine almost any of the spaces to suit the size of your event, whether it is for an intimate wedding with 80 guests or a larger guest list of up to 170. For a truly historic atmosphere, there are also two intimate reception rooms in the original Medieval fortress. In addition, there is an enclosed lawn courtyard, which makes a perfect entrance and backdrop for champagne, canapés, and photos to start your reception or to escape for a breath of fresh air later in the evening. Although it’s not licensed for marriage services, you can hold a blessing in the chapel with up to 100 of your friends and family. We love... The venue’s rich and interesting history.

ay and Kenny met at a soul night. “On our first date, Kenny wanted an informal vibe, so we wined and dined me at our local Wetherspoons’ curry night!” says Kay. “I knew then he was a keeper! He also makes me laugh and is an amazing cook, which was definitely the way to my heart.” Kenny proposed after 14 years together. “By now we had two children and had spoken about getting married in the past, but nothing ever came of it,” remembers the bride. “It was a huge surprise when Kenny proposed by writing a cryptic ‘WYMM’? in a Christmas card I opened on Christmas Day 2022. It was a lovely morning; we drank lots of buck’s fizz before getting ready for the day.” The couple set the date of 13th April 2023, choosing The Palm as their venue. Here, Kay tells us more about their wedding… 23
The Palm’s quirky interior was right up my street, and the staff were so welcoming and accommodating.
Don’t be afraid to make the wedding your own. We chose not to have a threecourse meal or speeches to make the day feel more comfortable and relaxed.
For our place names, I hand-stamped tags and tied them with twine around napkins and sprigs of rosemary from our garden.
The main bouquets were put together using achillea, spirea, rice flower, and a variety of roses, carnations and ranunculus.
Our daughters, Nina and Edie, were our bridesmaids and they looked unbelievably beautiful.
I bought a few dresses from ASOS Bridal to try. The dress I chose had the illusion of being a two-piece, with an embellished bodice and a plain tulle skirt.
My mother-in-law made our dog, Holly, a sage tulle skirt and she even wore a floral necklace! 24
REAL WEDDINGS
We hired a photo booth for two hours and brought our own props to use. It was great fun!
Kenny wore a suit he already owned with a skinny sage green tie to fit in with our colour scheme.
We bought scratch cards for favours and put them in personalised envelopes.
One of the highlights of our day was our magician, who had us laughing hysterically from the start.
It was such a special day being surrounded by close family and friends and making fantastic memories.
Kenny and I love cheese, so as well as a traditional cake, we also had a four-tiered cheese cake made of Gubbeen, Cornish Yarg, Colston Bassett and Dorstone.

H
annah and Robs met on a dating app. “However, after six months we went our separate ways as it just wasn’t the right time,” says Hannah. “Two years, a pandemic and two break-ups later, I messaged Robs again – and that was it; I wasn’t letting her get away! I’ll never forget tipsily screaming, ‘Will you be my girlfriend?’ at Durham Pride in the rain, and she moved in five months later.” Neither Hannah or Robs wanted to get married – or so they thought. “One day we were sat in a pub when it hit me how much I’d love to marry her, so I could introduce her as my wife,” continues Hannah. “Telling Robs there and then, I was shocked when she liked the idea as well. I had a bit of a cry – I might have had a pint or two! – but nothing further happened at that point in time.” Robs popped the question when the couple had been together just under a year. “I took Hannah to Grassholme Observatory the day before her birthday, so she wouldn’t suspect a thing, even roping in the guy who runs it so we could have the whole place to ourselves,” says Robs. “Turns out I picked the only night that weekend where you couldn’t see the moon due to cloud cover, but the ring was in my pocket and I was sweating buckets, so I committed myself to asking the question! I first gave Hannah a locket shaped like a book – as she’s a librarian – with its pages folded out to a message saying, ‘Will you marry me?’. By the time Hannah turned around there I was, down on one knee, thinking I was about to pass out! Hannah jumped on me as she was so excited – and didn’t even realise I was holding a ring. It wasn’t until I got up that she asked, ‘Have I got a ring?’ that I managed to show it to her!” The couple set the date for 13th July 2023, choosing The Parlour at Blagdon for their big day. Here, they tell us more about their wedding…
TO THE MOON & BACK The couple originally planned to elope. “However, as soon as Robs put a ring on Hannah’s finger she suddenly wanted a big wedding!” say the couple. “We started to look at venues, and after visiting a few knew The Parlour at Blagdon was for us. The outside space was a massive advantage, as we were getting married in the summer. We also couldn’t fault the staff. When we mentioned we didn’t really want a traditional day they were all for it, and we felt as if they were as excited as we were as we continued our planning journey.” When it came to a theme, Hannah and Robs agreed it should be celestial. “Hannah’s always told Robs, ‘I love you to the moon’, and seeing as Robs proposed in an observatory it seemed the perfect fit,” they continue. “Instead of traditional favours, Hannah made moon-shaped place names for guests to take home, with each name stamped on and a little tassel added. They also had magnets on the back to pop on fridges as a memento of the day. We continued our theme with our table plan and a beautiful white neon moon for the end of the aisle.”
OVER THE RAINBOW When it came to flowers, both Hannah and Robs agreed it weren’t a priority for their day. “We liked the whimsical feel of gypsophila, so decided that was enough for the venue, along with a hint of eucalyptus and dried elements,” say the couple. “Robs, on the other hand, wanted a floral hat – which she decided on before even thinking about her outfit! Our florist was really excited to make it, choosing dried flowers which we then tied in with the buttonholes. We also had flower crowns made for our flowergirl, as well as Robs’ sister and maid-of-honour. Finally, as a surprise for the evening, Hannah had a rainbow flower crown made. In the excitement she almost forgot to put it on – luckily her bridesmaid remembered and brought it out to her!” Speaking of rainbows, the couple also had a clear idea of what they wanted for their wedding cake. “One of Robs’ closest friends, Beth, is an amazing baker, and she approached us to say she’d love to gift our cake,” adds the couple. “We decided on lemon and poppy seed, funfetti and a rainbow layer cake, which we wanted to cut as a surprise. We can’t stress how amazing the cake looked and tasted. Beth and her business partner Megan are just starting out their business, Whisk Away, and we cannot recommend them enough.”
WEAR IT WELL Finding the perfect dress also wasn’t on Hannah’s list of priorities. “I’m not a 29

standard size and didn’t want to spend a fortune on a dress I’d wear once,” she says. “I knew I wanted a lace, boho feel with sleeves, and found a design on Etsy which I adored. However, there were no samples in my size, so I shelved it for a bit and started looking elsewhere. In the end nothing lived up to the one I’d seen, so I sent over my measurements, with my BIBILUXE Maya dress arriving a few weeks later. The first time I tried it on I cried tears of happiness. I could move in it, I could dance and I felt really beautiful, which I guess is the point for a wedding dress. Everyone said how ‘me’ it was – even my mam, who at first was hesitant about ordering a dress online.” It was then down to Robs to find the perfect suit, with the couple agreeing they’d keep their outfits from each other until the day. “There’s actually a big hole in the market for androgynous suits,” says Robs. “In the end I found a cropped-style jacket and pair of flares from ASOS, with a vibe of Harry Styles meets Fleetwood Mac. Hannah says she’d never seen me look so amazing.”
REAL WEDDINGS
A PLACE IN THE SUN The couple asked their venue if they could organise Spanish-style catering, as opposed to a more traditional meal. “Hannah’s dad had a house in Spain, which she visited regularly before he passed away,” continues the couple. “He loved a good party and was a great entertainer, so we wanted that feel to remember him by. Our coordinator suggested tapas, which was insane! We had boards brought to the guests’ tables piled with olives, meats, cheese and patatas bravas, followed by bowls of paella. It was perfect for a later wedding, leaving room for pizza from a local company later on in the evening. We had stacks left at the end of the night, which loads of people took home. We also had some sent to our room to eat later on!” Another nod to Hannah’s late dad was hiring a Spanish guitarist to play at their reception. “Unfortunately, he couldn’t make it in the end, so the venue suggested we make our own playlists, which they could pop on,” say the brides. “We took this very seriously, including having an emo hour and the very best of female power singers while we ate. We also had a band booked as a surprise for the evening, buying glow sticks for friends and family to use as Acoustic Clubland did their thing. They were exactly the vibe we were going for. One of our guests said it felt like they were sitting in a bar in Ibiza – what more of a compliment do you need?”
MAGIC MOMENTS There are many memories of Hannah and Robs’ wedding that will stay with them forever. “We asked Robs’ little cousins, Luke and Joey, if they wanted to be our ‘wedding security’; a task they enthusiastically agreed to,” say the couple. “We ended up with stricter security than Geordie Shore! People were getting turned away as we’d forgotten to give them an evening guests list; and Joey even added extra tasks to his role, such as taking people’s snack orders. He even made some tips! Everyone loved them, and people were still mentioning them weeks after the wedding.” Seeing each other for the first time as they were about to become wife and wife is also something Hannah and Robs will never forget. “Waiting outside with my mam, who walked me up the aisle, felt like an eternity,” says Hannah. “I knew Robs was already in there and I just wanted to see her, then the minute we were in the room together we locked eyes and didn’t look at a single other person. I ugly cried the whole way!” Robs, who’d spent the day being super-calm and collected, also fell apart when she first saw her future wife in the ceremony room. “I sobbed like a bairn!” she laughs. “I’ll also never forget the music in the evening, which was totally our vibe. I got to dance with Hannah as my wife, with our friends and family, then my brother and I did a perfectly choreographed routine to Party in the U.S.A. by Miley Cyrus!”

Scott’s proposal to Ruth didn’t exactly go to plan Images courtesy of Infinity Images Photography
R
uth met Scott through a mutual friend. “Lockdown hit, so we started FaceTiming as well as messaging,” says Ruth. “Scott works offshore, so when he returned – and after restrictions were lifted – we went to the beach for our first date. We then met nearly every night to go for a walk and grab some food. We moved in together quickly, and there was no looking back!” Scott asked Ruth to marry him in their kitchen – not what he’d planned! “Scott spent ages looking for the perfect ring; a pink morganite oval design with diamonds all around,” continues the bride. “He then booked a night away at a lovely hotel that I’d been asking for months to visit. It fell on the same day as my nephew’s christening, so we spent a lovely day with family, where I enjoyed a few drinks. Scott, the designated driver, then took us home to get our stuff, letting my mam in to collect our dogs before quickly telling her his plans. Realising they’d taken themselves off into another room, I got suspicious and started asking why they looked so proud of themselves. Scott got overexcited and impulsively got down on one knee in the kitchen, asking me to marry him there and then! I ended up jumping on him and pushing him over, landing on the floor in a heap with three excited dogs piled on top, with my mam crying with happiness in the corner. By the time I’d sent messages to family and friends, the house was full of guests and champagne, meaning we had a huge party and missed the trip away! Scott’s still wounded at paying £600 for a night we didn’t get to, but we’ll forever have the brilliant memory of how his proposal ended up!” The couple set the date of 3rd June 2023, marrying at St Michael’s Church in Alnwick before hosting their reception at The Plough. Here, Ruth tells us more about their big day… 35

When I started dress hunting, I knew where to go, as my best friend from school owns a wedding boutique in Alnwick. I tried on a dress that was the opposite of what anyone who knows me would expect me to choose and fell in love with it right away!

O
n your big day, all eyes will be on you, so why not impress your guests with wow-factor transport? Whether you’re looking for a way to get from the ceremony to the reception or you want to make a grand entrance, there’s a lot to take into consideration. Start by creating an itinerary of the day and considering how much time will be spent where and when. Share this with your transport company, so they’re aware of what you’re planning for the day. We recommend seeking out suppliers who will be with you all day, meaning they won’t be constantly clock-watching and rushing off to another wedding. Discuss travel times with your transport provider, and keep in mind that some vehicles can travel faster than others. Just because your car can get from A to B in a certain time doesn’t mean a vintage motor or horse and carriage can cover the same distance as fast! Most importantly, be prepared. Check in with your driver or company the week of the wedding to make sure they have the correct address, timings, and emergency phone numbers. To help you find the perfect supplier for your big day, we’ve asked local companies to share more about their businesses...

TRANSPORT
TOP TIPS •Your wedding will pass by in a flash, by which point you could well finish the day realising you’ve barely seen each other! A little alone time as you journey from ceremony to celebration will be something you’ll cherish. Even if your big day is happening all in one location, ask your transport provider if they can factor in a short excursion for the both of you post-ceremony. Take your photographer, and you can also capture some great couple shots. •Most transport suppliers have a few vehicles and make it their policy to book only one wedding per day. However, this does mean that
they’ll get booked up well in advance, so start looking early to avoid disappointment. •Be prepared! Make sure umbrellas are on board if it rains. We love those shots of brides exiting elegant cars under cover or a brolly held by a sharply dressed chauffeur. •Check with your supplier what’s included in the price quoted, as some will charge extra to wait for photos, whereas others will offer this as part of the service. You don’t want any nasty surprises to mess with your W-day schedule, so it’s always best to make sure. 43

STYLE IT UP What are the latest venue styling trends for winter weddings?
Venue styling trends are very exciting; think velvet tablecloths and mix and match centrepieces with depth from berries, pine, twigs and candles. Chunky log slices with splits filled with oasis and winter florals are also great for adding dimension to centrepieces. This can even be a good way to dress up a smaller wedding cake and cupcakes, which are now in favour. Seating-wise, intimate top tables with just the newlyweds are popular, with decorations to match the centrepieces, adorned with lit tea lights inside glass baubles. Another nice touch is the return of the champagne fountain, which makes for an impressive photo opportunity. If you have access to an outdoor space, use it to create a snug with faux fur throws, cushions and a firepit. Why not add a hot chocolate station, complete with candy canes and glass bowls and jars offering different toppings? Jane Morland www.facebook.com/MargaretRoseEvents
MALE ORDER
We like to mix up ideas for groomsmen shots, as it’s important to keep some traditional styles but also have a bit of fun! Poses such as the men lighting cigars and lifting the groom up into the air are great ideas, and if your wedding breakfast or evening reception is in a pub, you could ask if the groom could pull a pint for them for your photographer to capture. Coloured smoke poppers also make a fab picture, as do personalised socks or the classic cool look with sunglasses. We usually get a good idea of what to do shot-wise when we meet the men in person, see what kind of personalities they have and take things from there. ASK THE EXPERTS
SUNNY DAY I’m obsessed with sunflowers! How can we incorporate them into our flowers and styling? Sunflowers are a bold, bright and beautiful floral to include in your wedding and can be incorporated into your venue styling with ease. Consider something simple, such as an accent on a welcome board, favour or aisle, or a decedent display like an overflowing centrepiece or archway. When it comes to complementary flowers, depending on your choice of style, there are several options to consider. The most popular is rustic; think sunflowers, eucalyptus, gypsophila, nude roses, daisies, forget me not blue, glass jars, and tea lights with burlap and lace trims on log slices. You could also opt for bright options such as cornflower blues, fuchsia pink roses, and orange gerberas, with lots of greenery in tall glass vases placed on mirrors. Alternatively, think autumnal options like peach roses, nude peonies, burgundy dahlias, rusty orange protea pin cushions, and greenery displayed on log slices with eucalyptus encircling. Nicola Moore www.robinweddingandeventdecor.com
THE GREAT OUTDOORS My fiancé and I are looking for our venue but want to get married outside. What should we keep in mind? If you get the right weather, there’s nothing nicer than exchanging vows under the open sky. However, I advise you to keep an open mind and be fine with last-minute changes due to rain or heavy wind. Bear in mind the temperature, too; if you have the sun beaming down, make sure there’s shade for you and your guests. Likewise, if it’s a cold day, are you and your guests going to get chilly? At Northside Farm, we have our Gingang, the perfect happy medium for an outdoor wedding. It’s a round building, creating an intimate ceremony room, but surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows and boasting panoramic views of the countryside. It’s even got underfloor heating for colder months and open doors to let the breeze through on summer days. Olivia Lockey www.northsidefarm-events.co.uk
BAND TOGETHER We’re feeling overwhelmed searching for a cover band – what dos and don’ts should we look for? First, talk to your partner about what you both have in mind and what you think will work best for your guests. Next, ask for recommendations from friends and family who may have attended a wedding recently. Ideally, you want a band that’s professional and gives you the peace of mind you need so that everything runs smoothly on your day. Any band should be as good at communicating as they are at performing, and they should also have a website containing information, videos and reviews. Be aware that some bands’ super-slick videos may have been recorded and produced in a studio, which might not necessarily be a reflection of how they sound live. We like to include real live footage in our videos, so potential clients can see what we’re really like and what a typical performance includes. Matt Burrows www.crazyknights.info 45

The latest trends for the wedding party

hen it comes to a wedding day, whether you’re the bride or a guest, the million-dollar question for everyone is: What am I going to wear? For the happy couple, as they are the stars of the show, they likely have at least an idea of what their big-day look will be like. But for the rest of the wedding party, where do you begin? First and foremost, the venue setting and theme of the day are paramount. A long flowing gown for bridesmaids will look out of place in a field for a tipi wedding; similarly, the mother-of-the-bride in a bold, tropical print summer dress may stand out against a stately home wedding
venue with a Bridgerton-inspired theme. Secondly, the weather. We British folk like to moan about it, and rightly so, because how many sunny days do we actually have each year? The season and the inclement weather will dictate not only the attire and the colour palette – no one wears pastel yellow in winter! – but also your accessory choice; boleros, jackets, and wraps will be your cosy friends for winter ‘I dos’. To help ensure everyone look amazing on the big day, we’ve asked local suppliers to share their 2024 trend predictions…

more informal weddings taking place in hotels and venues abroad. As a result, mothers-of-the-bride and grooms are seeking a design that has a softer look and is less restricting, yet is still glamorous and fun to wear again on holiday and special nights out. Designers have not been slow to cater for this trend, with designs now featuring bardot necklines, gently nipped waists flowing down to cascading hemlines, tailored trouser suits, dresses and jackets that are never out of fashion, and silk trouser suits with matching flowing blouson tops. Veni Infantino, Couture Club, John Charles, Simon Ellis, and many others have all these styles in plain and printed fabrics in several colours. All of these you will find at Marianne Fashions of Cleadon Village, with matching shoes and handbags and a choice of hats to hire or buy to complete the look.”
www.mariannefashions.co.uk The mothers-of-the-bride and groom are going to feel under the spotlight along with the rest of the wedding party. This added pressure can be overwhelming, as they may not have worn occasionwear for many years. These factors can certainly put strain on what should be an enjoyable experience. As the bride or groom, try to make them feel as reassured as possible, offer support and advice, and as with everyone else on the day, they should feel comfortable, leading to a happy and confident mother. To help, the team at Marianne Fashions of Cleadon Village in Sunderland has put together their 2024 trend predictions: “There are

EPERNAY BRIDAL www.epernaybridal.co.uk As much as we all love our friendship groups dearly, there are a lot of personalities grouped together. The same goes for fashion styles; we all have bits we love about our bodies and bits we don’t. The best thing a wedding couple can do to make their wedding party happy is to be relaxed and open-minded about the outfits you want them to wear. Everyone will then be happy and enjoy the day! To help you decide on a style, we’ve asked the team at Epernay Bridal to share their 2024 trend predictions for bridesmaids. “From sophisticated silhouettes to unique colour combinations, 2024 bridesmaid dresses are set to make a statement of elegance and individuality with a capacity to be re-worn at other special occasions. Versatility is vital in 2024 when it comes to bridesmaid dresses. We anticipate convertible dresses with detachable pieces, removable sleeves, and customisable elements that allow bridesmaids to transform their look throughout the day. This trend adds flexibility to the bridal party’s attire and ensures the dresses can be re-worn for other special occasions, maximising their value and reducing waste. “Chic, sultry back detailing, and low-cut necklines will take centre stage in 2024 bridesmaid fashion. We predict an abundance of dresses featuring elegant back cut-outs, crisscross straps, intricate lacework, and plunging necklines. These features exude femininity and create a visually stunning impact while remaining tasteful and sophisticated. “Next year, bridesmaids will be seen donning rich jewel tones and
EVIE BLACK OCCASION WEAR www.evieblack.co.uk The key for mothers-of-the-bride and grooms is to complement the rest of the bridal party and not compete with it, so be aware of colour palettes, themes, and what the rest of the bridal party is wearing. To help your mum find the perfect outfit, the team at Evie Black Occasion Wear has shared their trend predictions for mothers in 2024. "The 2024 collections are full of gorgeousness and glamour at prices to suit all budgets. Our designs are tailored towards the mother-of-the52
unexpected colour combinations. We expect a shift from traditional pastels to bold colours like emerald greens, sapphire blues, and deep burgundies. Combining multiple hues in a single dress or choosing mismatched dresses in complementary shades will also be popular, allowing each bridesmaid to express her personality while maintaining visual harmony.”
bride and groom – in fact, all wedding guests who wish to feel a million dollars at their special event. You can expect everything from subdued prints and gentle tones such as soft blues, delicate lilacs, pale pinks, and sea greens for early spring to intense colours such as bold, vibrant patterns and stand-alone colours such as azure, hot pinks, and emerald greens for high summer. “Popular fabrics for 2024 are luxurious in texture and comfortable to wear, aimed at suiting all sizes. Watch out for a bit of sparkle with jewels and feathers featured throughout our collection.”

Once you’ve found the perfect outfit, it’s important that it fits just right. Norma Arthur from Amble Pin Cushion tells us how to prepare your bridal party for their first dress fitting: “Arrive at your appointment with the dresses in full-length gown bags, which are useful for storage and to minimise handling during the alterations process. Your bridal party needs to have the correct underwear and shoes (or at least shoes of the correct height) for their first fitting, as these affect their posture and, therefore, how the dresses will fit. Take these, as well as petticoats, hoops, belts, and any other loose accessories, back home, leaving only the items requiring alteration with the seamstress. Remember to bring all these items back to subsequent appointments or you may be asked to reschedule. “Whether you’re the bride or a bridesmaid, you may be more comfortable having a companion help you to undress, dress, and have fastenings done up. This also gives them valuable practice for the big day itself. However, you will need to expect that there will be physical

contact by the seamstress in order that she can do her job, and you may well be seen in your underwear. The seamstress will do their best to make fittings private and relaxed and to reassure anyone who is feeling a little nervous. Check if the seamstress would like you to wear a mask at your fitting for everyone’s comfort and safety. Where alterations are required to several bridesmaid dresses from the same group, it’s helpful if the bride is the companion at each fitting. It is generally not appropriate to bring children with you to fittings. “Your measurements (and even your weight) may be taken at your first fitting, and, unless it has been discussed and agreed, the seamstress will not expect any significant variation from the original measurements between fittings. If a bridesmaid is trying to lose weight for the wedding, it will obviously cause issues with the fit of the dress if any weight loss continues beyond the first fitting, so discuss with your seamstress how close to the wedding you can leave your first fitting and get dates into diaries. Some dress styles, such as a corset back, are easier to accommodate fluctuating weight than others, like a low back or figure-skimming gown.”

I’ve always been passionate about helping people do their make-up and understand how products work and how to master different application techniques so it was the logical next step to put everything I’ve learnt over the last 20 years onto paper, creating a resource people can either read from cover to cover or dip in and out of as and when they want to. I hope the result is an easy-to-read guide for those interested in make-up.
Some of the work you’re most famous for is creating flawless bridal make-up for Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice. Are there any elements of these royal looks that our brides could apply to their own for the big day? I want to help all my brides achieve a beautiful make-up look that will last all day and make them feel amazing. I’ve mainly worked on the basis that bridal make-up should be timeless and not dated by trends. I suppose the looks I’m best known for are more on the natural side but I have a little secret: natural make-up doesn’t mean minimal, it’s just make-up that allows a person’s natural beauty to shine through. It means a sheer base so you can see your skin, eye make-up that frames without overwhelming, and lip and cheek colours that enhance the tones naturally present in the skin. Brides need their make-up to last all day. How can they make sure it doesn’t slide of their faces by the speeches? It starts at skin care. I love rich plumping moisturisers but on a wedding day it’s advisable to use light layers of water-based hydration so your skin is moisturised but not slippery, meaning products have a better grip. Light layers of concealer and foundation worked in well lasts significantly better than thick layers, and setting powder is essential. I know a lot of brides don’t like to use powder but a little under the eyes, around the nose and chin will lock the base in place before you finish with a spritz of a setting spray. Powder applied with a brush will set lightly, powder applied with a sponge or puff will set even more effectively. Just be sure to use a setting spray that’s made for longevity and not for rehydration because you could inadvertently be adding more moisture, which won’t help it to stay put. 66
There’s an emerging trend for brides to switch up their attire from daytime to evening bash. Can this be applied to make-up too and how can they transform to a party look quickly and easily? I love this trend but I do remind brides that it’s the one day to be as present as possible and not spend all day in the make-up chair, so I like to suggest quick and easy tweaks. The easiest after a quick base touch up is to add a bold lip. A bright red is so fun for brides who like the idea of the impact but don’t want to wear red all day or for the all important first kiss. My other go-to is a smoky eye. The addition of a darker shadow all over the lid and up through the crease with a sparkle shadow pressed on top makes for the most beautiful soft, smoky eye that shouldn’t take longer than about half an hour. I usually do this while the hair stylist redoes the hair.
INTERVIEW
How can our readers ensure their skin is in tip top shape providing the perfect canvas for their W-day make-up artist? The best thing you can do is drink water! Yes cleansing and exfoliating are extremely important but being really well hydrated from the inside out can make a whole world of difference to the skin. I also advise my brides to go easy on the sugar intake in the week leading up to the wedding and to avoid excessively salty food the night before, as this can result in puffiness and water retention on the big day. What I strenuously suggest brides don’t do is try facials or treatments before the wedding that they’ve never tried before. So many times I’ve been confronted with brides who have either had a reaction or their skin has broken out as a result of a treatment they’ve not had before. If you’re in the habit of having facials then by all means continue but don’t have one, or indeed any other new treatment right before the wedding, if you’ve never done so before, as they could have a negative impact on your skin. In your new book you talk about the tools needed for the job. Is there a set of basics that we should all have in our make-up bags? Tools are key when it comes to make-up application. I’m an avid believer in using your fingers if you’re happy to do so but if not then decent brushes make all the difference. It’s a bit like cooking: chopping an onion with a bent, blunt knife is a real challenge but like slicing butter if you have a good quality kitchen knife. The same goes for make-up brushes. As a make-up artist I own hundreds but not everyone needs that many. A base brush for all cream and liquid products (like skincare, foundation, cream bronzer, cream blush); a powder brush (for powder, blusher and bronzer); an angled brush (for eyeliner and eyebrows); and a classic eyeshadow brush are the key essentials along with a decent eyelash curler. A smoky eye is one of your trademarks. How can this be adapted to suit a bridal look? When I create a smoky eye for a bride I tend to keep the shades I use a little softer than I would for a red carpet moment just to ensure the eyes aren’t lost in too much darkness. I’m obsessed with soft bronze shadows all over the lid with dark brown kohl smudged along the lash line and a few lashes added for a little extra lash density. If bronze isn’t your tone then any muted shade like grey, heather, mink, mocha, mushroom are all gorgeous for a soft smoky eye.
What is it that makes you so passionate about make-up and skincare? I’ve always loved the creativity and art of make-up. I never tire of trying new products and experimenting with trends but as I’ve gotten older I’ve realised that actually what I love most about my job is helping other people feel good about themselves. I’ve had the privilege of seeing complete transformations with clients over the years, there’s something so magical about lavishing someone with your time, care, attention and artistry and seeing someone morph from shy, reserved and lacking in energy to beaming with confidence thanks to liking what they see in the mirror. I can assure you the make-up itself is only partly responsible for the transformation, it’s more about the personal connection made between artist and client. What’s been your career highlight so far? I’ve been lucky enough to have many but one of my greatest accomplishments is my book, Makeup. I’m not an academic and writing has never come easy. In fact I gave up on my dissertation at university because it was all together too much for me, and I ended up getting a diploma instead of a degree. So, to think almost 20 years later I managed to get my words out and actually wrote a book, a book that was number two in the Sunday Times best-seller list no less, is extraordinary to me. What’s next for you? Now that’s a question! I absolutely love what I do and I feel extremely grateful that that’s the case. I loved my time on 10 Years Younger so would always be open to another opportunity in TV but I’ve also loved working with brands on various product development moments and collaborations so I hope to do more of the same. I’d love my own brand one day but the market is so oversaturated at the moment so it won’t be any time soon. Makeup by Hannah Martin is published by HQ, Harper Collins. The lips are going to get a lot of attention on the big day! So, what do you suggest to make them perfectly kissable with colour that has staying power? A gentle scrub is imperative the evening before the wedding or at least three hours prior (to allow for any redness to subside). A simple sugar scrub will gently exfoliate the lips so they feel soft and smooth allowing lip balm to absorb efficiently. More importantly lip products will sit seamlessly without any visible cracks or flakes. Be sure to apply balm first thing in the morning as part of your cleansing routine to start the hydration process then again at the very start of your make-up application to make sure the lips are as soft as they can be. Blot away any excess before lipstick is applied. I prefer to line the lips first with long-wearing liners, then fill in with a long-wear liquid lipstick – I find sheer layers best for both comfort and wear. Then, for a soft finish, I press on a creamy lipstick and a tiny bit of gloss so the lips look full and plump. The liquid lipstick underneath acts as an insurance and the colour lasts for hours. A touch-up kit is essential and I always suggest my brides remove all remnants of lip colour, apply some balm, blot, then reapply for the freshest look. 67
Beauty Q&A These North East experts answer your hair and beauty dilemmas OLDER & WISER
I’m a mature bride and don’t want to be slathered in make-up. What should I look for in an artist and what kind of make-up should I go for? When choosing your make-up artist, consider the styles that you like and research people in your local area or close to your venue. Look at their work on social media or their website and see if they have experience with clients in your age group, either mothers-of-the-bride or brides. Be mindful of any filters used on photographs, as their skin should look realistic. Get in touch with artists that you like the look of and ask questions to ensure they’re a good fit for you. When it comes to actual make-up, mature skin looks amazing with a radiant and hydrated base. Mists, serums, and moisturisers, followed by an illuminating primer, give a ‘lit from within’ bridal glow, while light coverage foundation or a tinted moisturiser evens skin tone, avoiding that ‘caked on’ look. Avoid heavy matte finishes or anything too sparkly, as these can enhance and highlight fine lines and texture. Softly defined eyes and brows are really flattering and photograph beautifully, and for lips, choose satin and creamy textured lipsticks to make them appear fuller.

AT A LOOSE END I want my hair in a loose, low ponytail for my wedding – but my mam’s not convinced and thinks it will look too casual. What do you suggest? Go with your gut; it’s your day and your look! Once your mam sees you in your dress with your hair styled, she will have a totally different view. A low, loose ponytail can actually be the most glamorous of all and is also a big trend for late 2023 brides. Look at Pinterest and make a moodboard of different ponytails you like. This is a good way to show your stylist what you want and is great for sharing your vision with your mam. Too many people think of a ponytail as being hair shoved up for the gym or for keeping cool. Sure, that’s sometimes the case, but for weddings, it’s a classic, sleek style that looks incredible. Ruth Moore www.instagram.com/ruthmoorehair 68

Well grounded If wedding planning stress is getting the better of you, take this time-out with Ground Wellbeing’s Peigin Crowley
A
n award-winning spa consultant Peigin Crowley has spent more than 20 years crafting distinctive and transformative wellness products and treats for fivestar luxury properties. But in 2020, her attention shifted to the home. Experiencing the devastating impacts of stress, burnout, loss of identity and disconnection from the natural world, she embarked on a quest to create products and at-home rituals that could easily be incorporated into a daily self-care routine. Today her brand, Ground Wellbeing, continues to grow, focusing on craft and quality over quantity, sustainable business practices and the promotion of accessible and intuitive self-care for all. Committed to the power of touch, the brand’s rituals are created by Peigin to deliver carefully developed massage treatments through her years of work as an aromatherapist, where she gained a deeper sense of empathy, compassion and understanding. She is also dedicated to addressing women’s health issues. Here, Peigin tells us how to tackle wedding planning stress and build an effective self-care routine amidst a hectic schedule.
sure you’re both on the same page. Always remember the why – remind yourselves why you’re getting married in the first place. Focus on the love and commitment you share rather than getting lost in the details of the event.
TIME TO RECONNECT I think it’s really important to understand how we wake into the day, and how we go to sleep at night. Our first 10-15 minutes of the morning as we wake up into the day are crucial in terms of our attitude, intention and breathwork, as well as just being kind to ourselves. Likewise, at the end of the day, using aromatherapy products to help you slow down, helps invite sleep and gives you a moment to reconnect with yourself. So, those would be the two most important times of the day to remember to look after yourself, then you can build your self-care routine from there. When we’re busy, we can tend to forget to look after ourselves. We need to recognise the importance of self-care and make it a nonnegotiable part of our daily or weekly schedules. Understand that taking care of yourself is not a luxury but a necessity.
BETTER TOGETHER The first thing to say is that it’s natural to be overwhelmed and stressed in the run up to your wedding. It’s a really important day and you want all your friends and family to enjoy it. Acknowledge these feelings with each other and book out time each week to go on a walk or do something together. Take some time out where you don’t speak about the wedding at all! Do something else to take your minds off it, relax and focus on each other. Prioritise self-care routines individually and as a couple: go for a massage, have a treatment together, or just relax and de-stress. Even just running each other a bath and making sure you acknowledge the stress and really looking after each other is helpful. Communication is key, so voice concerns with one another and make

Influencer Eyal Booker and his brother Ariel reveal their hair care tips for grooms-to-be
M
odel, TV personality, and influencer Eyal Booker and his brother Ariel Booker have launched Wavy, the Everyday Curl Crème for men. Designed to maintain and enhance curls for all hair types, the everyday cream uses high-quality ingredients and lasts for up to 30 days when used daily. Our grooms’ editor, Melissa Cullen, chatted with Eyal and Ariel to discuss male hair care and the next era of men’s grooming. What do you suggest for grooms-to-be who are conscious about looking after their hair in the run-up to the big day? Don’t do anything drastic or try a new barber or hairdresser; the key is to get your haircut a week or two before the wedding so that if anything goes wrong, there is still enough time for your hair to grow back to your preferred look. It’s important to communicate with your hairdresser about what it is you’re looking for, and then you can go in for a slight touch-up a couple days before the wedding.
People are becoming more conscious of their impact on the environment; how can we choose products that are environmentally friendly but still good for our hair? Always look for brands that are making a conscious effort to be more sustainable. Looking at their packaging is crucial; find a brand that uses sustainable packaging and works towards an eco-friendly future. Most brands are making a conscious effort to be more sustainable and typically mention this on their websites.
How do you recommend styling my hair for the big day? The big day is all about you looking and feeling your best. Go with whatever makes you feel most confident. Our recommendation is to go for a timeless style; your pictures are going to last a lifetime and will remind you of one of the best days of your life, so it’s important that you choose a style that you’re happy with.
What do you consider to be the biggest development in men’s hair in the past five years, and what do you think will be the next big trend? We think it’s within the formulations that are being used. In the past couple of years, consumers have trusted brands, and they weren’t asking any questions. More recently, men have become more aware of the good and bad ingredients and, as such, are looking for them in the products they use. If a brand is quiet about their formulation and/or what they’re putting in their products, the likelihood is that their ingredients are probably not the best for your hair. One in four men in their 30s experiences male pattern baldness. What tips or advice can you give to help men look after their hair and delay this onset? We have noticed that a lot of this comes down to the lifestyle that men have. It’s crucial to make sure that your body is getting the vitamins and nutrients it needs, as this impacts how the body reacts to hair growth. We suggest that males experiencing baldness try taking supplements that strengthen their hair and help it grow back to its potential. This will slow down the balding
process and give men a chance to keep their hair looking its best and, most importantly, feeling its best.

It has two locations in Jamaica – Ocho Rios and Montego Bay – where you can watch and interact with dolphins and many other beautiful animals. RAFTING ON THE MARTHA BRAE Board one of the bamboo rafts at Rafting on the Martha Brae and gently float down a five-kilometer (three-mile) calm stretch of river just a few miles inland from the historic town of Falmouth. The trip lasts just over an hour and each raft accommodates two adults and up to two small children, with passengers sitting on a throne adorned with colorful flowers. The experience has attracted a number of famous figures over the years, including Queen Elizabeth II, Spike Lee, Kenny Rodgers, Johnny Cash, and Usain Bolt.

The Italian dream
Louise Prance enjoys her inaugural visit to Italy, discovering the delights of Sardinia with a stay at the impressive Forte Village
F
or many, when you think ‘honeymoon’ you think white sands, clear seas, sunshine and an abundance of rest and relaxation. But, if you’re anything like me, sometimes you need a little bit more – enter Forte Village, Sardinia. A self-confessed travel addict with eternal wanderlust, I’m ashamed to say that my recent visit to Sardinia was my virgin voyage to Italy. And what an error or judgement that was. Just a hop, skip and a very short two-hour flight from the UK it was clear from touch down that Sardinia lived up to the Italian dream stereotype and then some.
on offer. For me, the focus on health and fitness was an instant draw, there are, wait for it, a whopping 11 pools, a gym, tennis club – the resort offers exciting events such as lessons with tennis legends – football pitches, boxing arena and climbing wall – which induced a severe bout of FOMO from my climbing-obsessed partner back in the UK. If that’s not enough, there’s a plethora of fitness classes available in the ‘FIT-ZONE’ including the likes of HIIT and yoga.
RESPLENDENT IN ITS BEAUTY
The focus on fun doesn’t stop at the exercise offerings, with there being something for all the family. Heading off on a Familymoon? The kids club feels like a separate resort in itself with its own swimming pool, Mario’s Village and, my personal favourite, life-sized Barbie Dreamhouse. Fancy some family activities to enjoy together? The on-site Go Karting and Bowling tick that box nicely.
Those looking for the aforementioned honeymoon vision of sun, sea and sand would be hard pushed to beat this beautiful destination. Giving off Greek island vibes, Sardinia is resplendent in its beauty, with the softest white beaches, dream-like crystal clear oceans, and an impressive history – there are Roman ruins at archaeological site Nora and a network of underground grottos some 530 million years old at the Caves of Is Zuddas, to explore. And of course, there’s the food. With Italy known for its cuisine, Sardinia didn’t disappoint, and neither did the culinary offerings at Forte Village – a resort set in a whopping 50 acres in the South of Sardinia.
FITNESS FIRST While of course exploring the island is a must-do recommendation, when you stay at Forte Village, you really won’t feel like you’ve missed out if you decide to stay put. Village by name, village by nature, the resort emulates a quintessential small Italian town, with residents getting around either by foot or on the quaint bikes provided, where the 21 restaurants (with three boasting Michelin stars) being just the beginning of what’s

own space, being just a stone’s throw from the white sandy beach and breakfast restaurant.
LOOKING FOR MORE?
Back to newlywed life, Forte Village’s spa is its shining glory. Loved by the Italian National Football Team, the Thalassotherapy Circuit was perhaps one of the most memorable spa experiences I’ve ever had. Offering six Thalasso pools, the circuit is designed to follow a pre-designed route to generate optimum health benefits. My personal favourite? Pool number one was a magnesium-heavy sea oil pool heated to a balmy 38c. Wearing an inflatable neck pillow you’re encouraged to simply float in the water, which is effortless thanks to the high salinity. I challenge anyone to leave the pool after the recommended 20 minutes feeling anything other than heavenly. The further five pools offer similar blissful experiences, which were only surpassed by the spa treatment I received after. The treatment rooms are set amongst the trees in a private tropical garden, with floor-to-ceiling (one-way) windows providing an awe-inspiring setting. My full body mud treatment left me feeling rejuvenated and relaxed, ready to take on another day in paradise.
For me, a getaway is not complete without a water-based excursion, and Sardinia offers ocean activities galore. However, always up for trying something new, I jumped at the chance to be taken out on a Jeep safari up the Monte Santo di Pula. Led by a knowledgeable guide, we bumped our way to the top of the mountain to take in some wow-factor views. We were then met by local Shephard Roberto, who did a demonstration under the forest canopy of how his family continue to make pecorino the traditional way. Coupled with some delicious red wine and authentic Italian fare, it was a memorable experience. It’s safe to say that Italy didn’t disappoint, with the Sardinian town of Cagliari being a wonderful final destination to explore. And while it may have been my first venture to the country, it certainly won’t be my last. Intoxicated by the setting, people, food and culture, Sardinia, and Forte Village, is a destination that should rank highly on your honeymoon shortlist.
DOWN TIME The endless fitness, spa, food and activity choices aren’t the only things you’ll no doubt have the pleasure of deciding upon at Forte Village, with the accommodation options as wonderfully expansive as the rest of the resort offerings. There are a selection of hotels, suites and bungalows dotted around, each with their own restaurant and pool. The decision between beach front, private garden, terrace, or balcony is where the difficulty will end, with each choice being as decadent as the next. My private garden bungalow was the perfect place to relax in my

wine list will ensure you’re well refreshed. As I visited on a Sunday, Yu, the Retreat’s pan-Asian restaurant wasn’t open, but I’ll definitely be back to experience the Japanese fine dining establishment with a reputation not to be ignored! I finished my stay with a full body ‘Made for You’ massage at the Signet Spa. My therapist was able to locate and relax my pressure points leaving me recharged and well cared for. Utter bliss.

tep into luxury at The Retreat, Elcot Park. Since its grand opening in June 2022 it has won many accolades including Britain’s Best Hotel by The Times and the Sunday Times, topping their list of the Top 100 Places to Stay in the UK. So, it was only right for us to check it out for our couples. Located between Newbury and Hungerford, this 18th-century country house hotel & spa is the perfect spot to unwind pre- or post-wedding whether you want a cocktail aside the heated outdoor swimming pool; or are ready to don your hiking boots and clear your mind on the close-by North Wessex Downs. You’re so warmly welcomed as soon as you enter the lobby lounge. Waiting at the reception desk was a lovely couple sipping a glass of wine checking in – yes you get a glass of the good stuff on arrival - and who was at their feet but two four-legged friends. Living the life of Riley, these pampered pooches were also looking forward to their stay in one of the several dog-friendly rooms. They even get a doggie welcome pack on arrival! With a crisp rosé in hand, I check into the Sutton Suite. An interior designer’s dream, sunlight pours into the room which overlooks the surrounding countryside. It’s warm and inviting with whimsy wallpaper, mix-match plush textiles and the prime centrepiece, the stunning copper roll top bath, is just waiting to be enjoyed. With a private mini bar, as well as raiding rights to the pantry (yes, there’s a pantry where you can help yourselves to snacks and drinks!), you’re guaranteed to switch off, unwind and feel truly spoilt. When it comes to food and drink, 1772 Brasserie offers a fine choice of contemporary dishes for all tastes. I chose crispy chilli squid followed by Berkshire lamb rump, cooked to perfection.
