hese lovebirds met through a mutual friend but became closer thanks to their shared love for the gym and lifting weights, a hobby they still do together today. Henry proposed shortly after the pair purchased their first house together. He organised a treasure hunt that finished with candle-lit lanterns in the garden and a sign saying, “Will you marry me?” – it was an easy “yes” for Cheryl. Here, the bride shares details about their special day… 31

We love going to festivals, so we wanted to balance the formalities of a wedding and the fun party feel of a vinta ge carnival festival. To end the day, we wanted a rave with an epic DJ and lighting set, which included a light technician in a big top circus tent.

Our local parish church, Romsey Abbey, was the ideal setting for our ceremony.

Kimbridge Barn offered the relaxed atmosphere we wanted for our reception, with a range of spaces suiting different age groups. The venue is very picturesque and summer flowers were in full bloom at the front of the property. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

We had distinctive agate coasters for favours as well as activity packs to kept the children occupied with disposable cameras.

My bouquet included little charms that featured photos of my grandparents, including one of them on their wedding day. 37

Aaron wore a pale-grey suit, which was comfortable in warmer temperatures. The groomsmen and our fathers wore the same.

We booked an A-list indie rock band, who learnt our first dance song especially for the wedding – In Case You Didn’t Know, by Brett Young. I wore a beautiful dress by Essense of Australia from Anya Bridal Couture. It was a style I had always wanted, with beading and subtle glitter.

I heard the church bells from the wedding before ours. It was lovely to know that I would be walking up the aisle just an hour later, which was an amazing moment in such an awe-inspiring building. 39

For Aaron, it was his first dance with me that signified the start of a memorable evening.

The best men spent most of the morning trying to ensure the flower wall in the courtyard at Kimbridge Barn was perfect. By the time they returned after the wedding service, it had fallen over! They had it back securely upright by the time we arrived after a leisurely drive in a beautiful vintage Rolls Royce.

Kay from Pomp & Petals went the extra mile by picking up candles and holders from my house on the morning of the wedding. She included them in beautiful floral table decorations, alongside some larger showstopping designs in the barn.

We honeymooned in Santorini for a week after the wedding. It was such a beautiful, romantic location and very relaxing.

ulcie and Bobby first met at college and ended up attending the same university. Their friendship grew stronger over time, retaining a comforting link to home. “We always had so much in common, sharing the love of the same books (Harry Potter, obviously), TV shows and movies”, says Dulcie. She continues, “We lived together for our second and third years, where our friendship grew into something more during this time. We ignored and denied it for a while but eventually took the risk and never looked back. Fast forward time, we have shared 12 years of love, 16 years of friendship and one year of marriage!” Bobby proposed on Christmas morning in 2020. Dulcie comments, “We were in lockdown, which ended all his more adventurous proposal ideas and separated us from loved ones; it became the most magical little bubble. It was a complete surprise; we were opening presents and Bobby pretended he couldn’t find one under the tree. As I was helping him look, he reached into the tree, and I turned to see him on one knee – my beautiful ring was presented in an ornate silver gift ornament!” Here, the bride shares details about their special day…

I’m also a stickler for detail and coordination, so aesthetics was important. I wanted a day that reflected us and our love story.

We wanted a venue with accommodation so we could extend the celebrations. I found Came House and fell in love with the orangery. We first viewed it online, where I was squeezing Bobby’s leg in excitement – we both knew it was the one right away.

We had banquet tables to reflect our love of Italian food and culture, with sharing boards for starters and desserts. We wanted that big Italian family meal vibe, people sharing food, wine and good conversation.

We gave guests shot bottles of Limoncello for toasting.

My brief was wild, English country garden florals in pale pinks, creams and blues. We had a meadow aisle and installation to frame the vows that looked so gorgeous in the orangery, flooded in September sunshine. 44

The tables were named after our favourite holiday locations in Italy, such as Amalfi, Venezia, Taormina and Isola Rossa – it was hard to choose!

I wore a dress called Charm by Jenny Packham, which is the most beautiful dress I’ve ever seen. It’s covered in embellishments of lucky charms, stars and moons.

I wore various special pieces of jewellery, most of which were opals, and a necklace containing my mum’s ashes around my wrist as a bracelet.

I felt beautiful, with a real sense of calm and contentment that everything had come together. It can be hard to imagine the whole package throughout the planning process, so to see everything turn out as I’d hoped was just so special.

The bridesmaids wore pale dusky blue dresses! There were seven adults and one junior bridesmaid, so we had a few different styles all in the same colour.

We wanted a big celebration with all our nearest and dearest where everyone just had a great time, ate fantastic food, and danced the night away.

Bobby wore a navy blazer with a light check, a pale blue waistcoat to match the bridesmaids, beige trousers and bespoke shoes from Crockett & Jones.

A band played our favourite rock and indie tunes with a DJ to follow with our favourite soul, Motown and disco numbers. The singer/ guitarist from the band played an acoustic set during the drinks reception, which was a hit with guests. 45

I felt overwhelmed but so happy! So much planning was over in the blink of an eye, but it was worth every second. It was just magical from start to finish.

Seeing each other for the first time was a moment that stood out. After 11 years together, finally hearing we were husband and wife was magical.

We carved some time out for ourselves after the ceremony to be together and absorb the magnitude of the day. It was so special, and I’m happy we took that time.

Our biggest priorities were celebrating with our loved ones and ensuring everyone had a great time. I remember looking around the dancefloor, our band going down a storm and everyone dancing, singing their hearts out.

Our photographer Sam went above and beyond at every moment. She made us so comfortable and made two people who don’t like having their photos done not only love their images, but have a ball taking them. I loved being in her company, and everyone had such high praise for her.

We went to the Maldives for our honeymoon, which was heaven on Earth. It was pure relaxation, eating great food, drinking too much and being in each other’s company.

How can I repair the ravages of the cold and wind in time for my spring wedding? Winter can be harsh on your skin, especially your face. Protecting and nourishing the skin as much as possible during winter is best, so less ‘repairing’ is needed. When it comes to skin prep, hydration is key! Drinking lots of water has huge benefits to your skin all year round. As the seasons change, so should your skincare. What advice can you share to help me find the perfect bridal jewellery? The main thing to consider when choosing bridal jewellery is to think about what’s important to you – think sustainability, budget, colour scheme, family traditions and safety. Many British jewellers use recycled metals these days, so there are plenty of options for modern nearlyweds. Some suppliers will make your family gold into a new piece for you, which offers a lovely way to reuse pieces while honouring your ancestors. You might see something that catches your eye and think, ‘This goes with my theme,’ but what happens afterwards? Will you sell the jewellery or wear them again? If it’s not something you’ll wear again, maybe it isn’t the right piece. Anything we can do to avoid jewels languishing in jewellery boxes can only be good. It’s worth looking harder to find something you’ll love and cherish. Sometimes, that means spending a bit more or even borrowing an heirloom. It’s relatively safe to assume the pieces are made fairly if handmade in the UK. The only exception to this might be the stones in your jewellery. Ask the jeweller if these are responsibly sourced. If so, the team will be happy to share this information. If they’re reluctant, then be sceptical as they either don’t know or have not factored this into their designs. Consider the stones used! Diamonds are 10 on the moth scale, the industry standard for measuring the hardness of a gemstone. Diamonds aren’t always affordable, and there are equally suitable plus less expensive stones like rubies and sapphires available, which come in a rainbow of colours – both are nine on the moth scale. Safety is most important! Buying from abroad can be cheaper, but it’s risky. Places like the US also have no hallmarking requirement, so you cannot be sure that what you buy is genuinely gold or silver. If purchasing jewellery at the lower end of the market, there’s the added risk of toxic metals such as cadmium in your jewellery. There are no laws in these countries to guarantee your safety. Strictly Come Dancing star and Shakeup ambassador, Neil Jones reveals his skincare tips for grooms-to-be

ur grooms’ editor, Melissa Cullen, chatted with Strictly Come Dancing star and Shakeup ambassador, Neil Jones, to discuss male skincare. What do you suggest for grooms-to-be who are conscious about looking after their skin in the run-up to the big day? Research potential products and test them on a small part of your skin a few weeks before the wedding. If everything is good, work out a simple routine of cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturising, and try to add in a weekly mask to help get your skin in shape for the big day. Keep to a routine that works for you, and drink plenty of water, as it will help massively. On the big day, use a face spray to refresh the skin in case you get a bit hot and nervous. It’s also good at taking away any oiliness or shine. Do you have a skincare routine you would recommend? I always use a face wash, followed by a clarifying toner, serum and moisturiser. My routine is pretty straightforward, and it suits my skin and its needs. I’m a big ice and cold-water therapy fan, as I find it helps with my blood flow, and mental state, so I take regular ice baths and daily cold showers. I’ve also decided to reduce sugar in my life, but I’ll still have the occasional cake or dessert but no soft drinks. I now drink a lot of tea, black and herbal, plus matcha and as much water as I can, but I’ve never really indulged in alcohol or coffee. Eating the right foods gives our body the vital fuel it needs, and knowing what ingredients are in them and asking where they came from is just as important. You can still have a hamburger, but it’s about the quality. People are becoming more conscious of their impact on the environment; how can we choose products that are environmentally friendly but still good for our skin? Great question, and one I am excited and passionate about. I truly feel that if we eat and

shop more locally, it will have a massive positive impact. I know this is not always possible, but I try to search for a local farm or farmer’s shop, butcher or baker. I’m also looking into how I use my garden because we can grow so much of the food that we use to cook. It’s all about using what we have. Nature provides food in its own protective packaging, so don’t buy it if it’s in extra cellophane. Just one step at a time, day by day, small changes can help.
