Icannot believe that my dear friends Melissa and Dave will be celebrating their first anniversary this month! Where on earth did that year go? For those of you who are new to the magazine and, possibly happily for you, missed my endless and excited rambles about preparing to be a bridesmaid for fellow CWM editor Melissa, I hope you’ll indulge me as I reminisce!
Not wanting to start out on a negative note, but hands up: I hate the summer. It’s just too hot! Many a time I’ve contemplated taking a summer home in Iceland, but alas the budget doesn’t permit. In 2022 though, my season horribilis was made all the merrier by the excitement of a wedding. Sage green and blush pink was the palette of choice, while the vibe was rustic. Still on trend this year, I’d go so far as to call it a timeless theme. On 22nd July, we’d just about made it through the hottest days of the year, when thank goodness, the temperatures started to cool to a bearable level. An al fresco ceremony, a reception with the venues’ folding doors flung open, and some memorable moments for the newlyweds spent with their photographer in the nearby cornfields during golden hour: It was all a summer wedding should be, and more.

I’ll admit to liking one thing about the season though, and it came into play on Melissa and Dave’s big day, as indeed it would at any wonderful wedding. First and foremost, it’s the long days. Making the best of the great outdoors is something we can do to the max during the summer. There are no more hours in the day, of course, but somehow it feels like there are, which is a huge plus when you’re celebrating such a momentous occasion. So, if you’re thinking about hosting your entire day outside, you won’t want to miss the advice of our experts over in Hot Topic from page 77. Or if you want to at least have the option to spill out of your venue and into some glorious gardens, check out our venue feature from page 25.
I hope you find inspiration aplenty among the pages of our summer issue. There’s a bumper crop of stunning shoots to keep an eye out for containing bags of seasonal gorgeousness (from page 49), as well as our venue styling hotlist (page 57).

With a mission to empower women through jewllery, Nikita is a female-owned jewellery brand based in Kent. Whether it’s a gift for a bridesmaid or a treat for yourself as you walk down the aisle this summer, we love the brand’s new Zodiac Disc Necklaces (£50). The water and sweat resistant pendant hangs from a chain with a four-inch adjustable area, meaning you can wear it as a long necklace or a choker depending on the neckline of your dress. With the star sign and symbol printed in cursive on opposing sides, this necklace looks gorgeous however you choose to wear it.
What’s more, it comes wrapped in an all black, recyclable gift box containing an empowering message and complimentary cloth, so if you are gifting this gorgeous necklace to members of your bride tribe, there’s no need to wrap!

www.olegssamsonovsphotography.comCelebrating their 10th year, the Muddy Stilettos Awards have been announced for 2023. Designed to support and promote local businesses and high streets, they’re prized for recognising those with originality, creativity and quality. This year, 77,000 were nominated and an astonishing 800,000 votes were received. On hearing of the announcement, we here at Your Kent Wedding eagerly scanned the list of Kentish winners to see if any of our local wedding industry pals were fortunate enough to take home a gong and we’re pleased to report there was a whole host!
First up, massive congrats go out the team at Vicki’s Bridal Boutique in Tenterden (www.vickisbride.co.uk) who deservedly collected the award for Best Bridal Boutique. Owners Hannah and Megan say, “We’re so excited an honoured to have been awarded The Best Bridal Shop in Kent. We pride ourselves on making sure every bride-to-be who walks through our doors feels just as at home in our happy place as we do.”
In the Best Jeweller category there was plenty of reason to celebrate as two long-time Your Kent Wedding contributors were recognised. The lovely Natalie from Navette Jewellery Studio (https://navettejewellery.co.uk) in Ashford was delighted to be shortlisted as a finalist, while Fitzgerald Jewellers (www.fitzgeraldjewellers.co.uk) in Canterbury ultimately took home the prize. Olivia Fitzgerald from Fitzgerald Jewellers told us, “We genuinely can’t believe we’ve won Best Jeweller in Kent with Muddy Kent for a second year in a row. It’s such an incredible honour to be recognised by our loyal customers for the service we deliver. We’re blown away by the messages, emails and even phone calls of people calling to congratulate us. It feels like such a prestigious award simply because it’s voted for by the general public. If we could say anything about it, it would be, ‘thank you.’ We couldn’t be more proud.”
Some of Kent’s finest wedding venues were also recognised across several categories. Hever Castle (www.hevercastle.co.uk) was awarded Best Family Attraction, while Cave Hotel (www.cavehotels. com) in Boughton went away with Best Hotel/Inn. We caught up with Kayleigh Wild, group sales and marketing direct at Cave Hotel & Golf Resort, who said, “We’re absolutely thrilled and grateful to be named the winner of this category. This prestigious award is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of our entire team who continuously strive to provide our guests with an exceptional stay, exceeding their expectations at every turn.” Finally, The Orangery in Maidstone (www.theorangerymaidstone.com) was heralded as the Best Wedding Venue in Kent. Congratulations one and all!
Ashford-based winery Gusbourne is delighted to announce the debut of its first sweet wine, Chardonnay RS180. Chief winemaker Charlie Holland has long had sights on creating a dessert wine for Gusbourne’s portfolio, and using 2022 vintage’s beautifully ripe Chardonnay 809 fruit, he worked with the team and achieved it. The result is this lush, sweet wine –golden-hued with sumptuously ripe flavours of stone fruit and a delicate marmalade character. It’s beautifully flexible, working with pastry and sweet custard desserts, perhaps even wedding cake, as well as fulfilling the role of a Sauternes with rich pâté or cheese.
This newbie has been introduced alongside Gusbourne’s existing Chardonnay Guinevere, which we love. It has a pale golden colour with a nose brimming with honeyed citrus, orchard fruits and toasted nuts. On the palate its silky texture is bursting with flavours of lemon zest, green apple and pineapple, and pairs perfectly with fish, seafood, light meats and cheese.
Gusbourne also makes a wonderful range of sparkling English wines perfect for toasting your nuptials. To find out more head over to www.gusbourne.com

Matt Pickard is a broadcast cameraman and editor, based in Headcorn. Like many small business owners during the pandemic, he was forced to find other revenue streams and EDIT OUR DAY was born. Today the brand is already becoming super-popular among couples. It’s wedding videography, but not as you know it!
EDIT OUR DAY utilises guests’ smart phone footage to edit together a unique, personal and affordable wedding video. There’s no need to have an unknown videographer at your wedding, as Matt doesn’t actually need to be there in person. “We don’t want guests to have their phones out the whole day, all we require from the people who’d usually take some video, is to share it with us,” he says.
The process starts when you receive your care box, which includes letters to give out to the wedding party, fully versing them on how everything works. Also included are bathroom posters, which give reminders to guests along with some tips on how to take amazing videos of the day. They’ll be able to upload their footage for seven days and after that three films will be produced for the couple: a feature-length version (up to 15 minutes), a highlights video (up to six minutes), and a social media reel (one minute).
Currently EDIT OUR DAY’s basic package is £500, which includes everything above, but we’ve teamed up with this fab new local business to offer readers the same at an incredible discounted price of £350. To claim, simply get in touch via hello@pickture.co and quote “YKW78.”

BILSINGTON PRIORY
01233 720 992 | www.bilsingtonpriory.co.uk
This grand monastic building retains its Medieval structure, built from local Kentish ragstone. Set in seven acres of mature, landscaped gardens surrounded by a moat and the abbot’s former fishponds, the Priory offers a photographer’s paradise. What’s more, its secluded, rural position lends it a truly exclusive setting, off the beaten track, yet only 15 minutes from Ashford, South Kent’s major travel hub.
The Priory’s Medieval stone structure and cavernous oak-beamed Grand Ceremony Room is the most romantic setting. Steeped in history, it was built in 1253 for the Canons Regular of St Augustine’s, in a French style of the period. Able to seat 100 ceremony guests, there’s also plenty of space for a musical quartet.
The conservatory is a bright space connected to the Edwardian manor
house and accessed via the private garden. Surrounded by the moat, it overlooks ancient woodlands with stunning views over Romney Marsh. It can seat 50 nearest and dearest for the “I dos.”
The garden is focused around a chess board gazebo. Surrounded by mature trees and shrubs, it provides an intimate setting for an outdoor ceremony with room for 120 seated guests.
Receptions are held in the venue’s 12 x 12 lined marquee, which has an exposed wall to show off the historical stonework of the Priory, and also boasts a stunning Louis 15th-style chandelier. Evening entertainment takes place in the adjacent Chapter Room, where there’s a bar and dancefloor. The space can cater for 150 loved ones.
The west wing of the Edwardian manor is also offered for hire to wedding parties wishing to prepare for their nuptials on site. At the end of the day, there are four rooms available on a bed and breakfast basis.

FRASERS OF EGERTON
01233 756 122 | www.frasersegerton.co.uk
Set in the heart of the idyllic Kent countryside just 20 minutes from junction 8 of the M20, Frasers is a wedding venue with a very special difference. Located on a 300 acre eco-estate, food for its couples’ wedding days is foraged, gleaned from or grown on the estate or from a carefully selected group of local artisan suppliers and growers. What’s more, the estate operates with 60 per cent renewable energy, while its lowintensity, wildlife-rich grasslands off-set any carbon footprint, resulting in it being net carbon neutral. The ethos is to create bespoke, stylish, country weddings, that literally don’t cost the earth!
Oozing luxury and charm, Frasers is available for weddings of all sizes, and every one has exclusive use of the venue, with weekend weddings benefiting from an overnight stay and dinner on Friday evening for the wedding party. Each event is created around your requirements.
The ceremony can take place either in the traditionally built Kentish oak-framed barn or within one of the beautiful garden areas. Following
the “I dos,” while you pose for photographs, your nearest and dearest will move to the fabulous Stag’s Barn for drinks and canapés, or in fine weather the wonderful garden with an upcycled, converted container bar is available.
Frasers can host receptions with up to 200 guests in its own marquee, located on the lawn surrounded by the picturesque rose garden; or smaller, boutique weddings in the oak-framed Frasers Barn with outside terrace facing the lawn. The venue also offers a complete floristry and event planning service.
The latest addition here is the The Snug, a romantic, circular space in the converted Grain Store. Offering you the option of how to use it for your wedding celebration, it provides a beautifully scenic photo location and is the perfect space for the ceremony, intimate first dance and private dining for up to 20 guests.
On-site accommodation is available, sleeping up to 20 guests in three beautiful period buildings, with nine of the suites situated on ground floor level. Nearby ancillary accommodation on a neighbouring farm can provide another five double rooms.

Beautiful by design and first-class hostess to royalty, nobility, and glamorous guests for more than 900 years, Leeds Castle rises majestically from the water among the glorious Kentish countryside.
Home to mesmerising historical gardens and architectural landscapes, the grounds are full of dazzling beauty perfectly lending themselves to all seasons for a chic destination wedding vibe. The Princess Alexandra Gardens are massed in banks of azaleas that bring extraordinary colour, while tall bamboo brings out the ambience of the Far East in the Oriental Garden. Meanwhile, The Lady Baillie Mediterranean Garden Terraces remind visitors of sun-drenched Europe.
Leeds Castle boasts no fewer than three venues in which to celebrate your entire day. The Castle can host 100 for the ceremony and wedding breakfast, with room for 120 to 200 in Fairfax Hall. The Ceremony Room here has been recently refurbished in soft, pastel colours bringing a sense of calm and tranquillity. After the
“I dos,” you’ll dine in The Salon where you can enjoy breathtaking views across the moat and parklands.
The Maiden’s Tower is an elegant, exclusive-use venue adjacent to the Castle with space for 80 ceremony and wedding breakfast guests, and 100 for the evening do. This 16th-century stone building, is now a glamorous self-contained venue, perfect for ceremonies, evening celebrations and overnight accommodation. Rumour has it that it was used by Catherine of Aragon’s maids-of-honour during her wedding to King Henry VIII!
Built in the early 14th century as a Medieval manor, Battel Hall is a fine and rare example of local Kentish architecture of the period. Say “I do” in the beautiful Ceremony Room before moving through to the drawing room or library, both wonderfully traditional rooms for entertaining your 14 guests. In the summer months, a 100-yearold wisteria smothers the exterior, and doors from the library lead onto the extensive gardens and woodland area.
Finally, The Fairfax Barn is a further option for your reception, which can hold 100 to 200 guests, or for larger numbers a marquee with space for 200 or more can be erected among the spectacular grounds.

Goodnestone Park is a vast, privately-owned estate located in the heart of the stunning Kent countryside. The 1704 Queen Annestyle mansion boasts a rich history, including frequent visits from the famous novelist Jane Austen. The magnificent grounds here, complete with impressive views of the historical estate parkland, make Goodnestone a dream setting for any wedding day. What’s more there’s accommodation on site inside the Grade II listed house itself in the form of 12 beautiful double rooms.
The intricately decorated Round Room can accommodate up to 24 loved ones for an intimate ceremony. Alternatively, for larger numbers, the Coach House offers a light and airy space with theatre-style seating for 100 guests. For al fresco vows, the Portico

The Church of the Holy Cross is just a short walk from the estate and is available by separate arrangement with the vicar. Your wedding party can stroll through the picturesque Holly Walk and Goodnestone Park’s Walled Gardens to return to the estate, with the beautifully maintained gardens providing many a photo opportunity along the way.
The Orangery, available from 1st March until 31st October can host up to 120 reception guests. Although, orangeries were popular in the 17th century, originating from the Renaissance gardens of Italy, there are no records that one ever existed at Goodnestone Park. So, the new luxury timber-framed Orangery Marquee, custom made by LPM Bohemia, is its first.
Inspired by the idea of Sleeping Beauty in her tower, Rebecca and Julian used a palette of dark green and orange, paired with a sprinkling of Disney magic
Images courtesy of Edward Solly Photography
Rebecca and Julian met in London at a salsa class. Rebecca had only recently moved to London from Germany following her studies; while Julian had been studying in the Capital. “We got on very well during the class, and after a few days of texting Julian asked me on a date to a salsa club,” Rebecca remembers.
Needless to say the date went well, so we fast forward a few years to November 2021. Julian had organised a private guided tour of Hever Castle, one of Rebecca’s favourite places; it was the first day of the Christmas decorations being up so the place looked magical. Alone in the castle together, Julian got down on one knee with an engagement ring he’d designed himself. He’d even brought a bottle of champagne and flutes in with him.
Another Kentish castle picks up the story from here. “The moment we stepped through the gates of Lympne Castle visiting one of their wedding fairs, we knew this was our place,” Rebecca says. “I only considered castles for our venue as I really wanted to be a princess.” It greeted the couple with blue skies and a seemingly endless view across the sea, and they found themselves captured by its charm. Rebecca continues, “I wanted a venue that could host our morning preparations, ceremony and reception, and be a private place for us and our guests. Lympne Castle was all of this and so much more.”
Read on as the bride shares her memories of their very special day, 3rd April, 2023...
Rebecca and Julian wanted wedding favours that guests would appreciate rather than something that’d be left behind. So, they gifted each of their loved ones a little wooden box bearing the wedding’s logo and motto (meant to bee) on one side, with a drawing of Lympne Castle and their names on the other. These also acted as the place names. They filled each one with a packet of seeds and instructions on how to plant them. Julian learned how to use a laser cutter and made all of the boxes himself.
In addition, the couple set up a goodies table, which contained some little extras for guests to take such as delicious cakes and locally-produced jars of honey and jam. As a nod to their rustic theme, there were also bee’s wax candles and tulip bulbs, which guests could feel free to take. They were the same orange tulips that featured in the bride’s bouquet.
The couple put their skills into action again to create the table plan, and Rebecca learned how to vinyl cut. Each table was named after a Medieval or Tudor castle that the pair had visited and meant something to them. Julian found pencil drawings of each one and laser engraved them onto wood.
The centrepieces beautifully reflected the theme. Each one included a set of log slices, log candles, and floating candles in jars, which were decorated with burlap. The tonic bottle and tulip pew ends from the ceremony were also repurposed to sit on the reception tables.
Rebecca’s auntie is a wedding florist, so naturally she was enlisted to create the bridal bouquet, as well as the bridesmaids’ posies, and buttonholes. “My favourite flowers are tulips and everything tied in with our orange and green palette,” Rebecca says. “My bouquet was a little wild to complement my fairytale princess dress, and it contained English ivy to mirror the vegetation around the Castle.” The bride’s auntie also decorated the staircase she was due to descend on her way to the aisle as a surprise. “It was so beautiful, I felt like Sleeping Beauty walking from the forest into the castle,” Rebecca remembers. Their second florist decorated elements of the castle such as the welcome sign, signing table and various mantelpieces, again perfectly in keeping with the palette and theme, ivy and the orange tulip being the main feature throughout.
The three-tier big-day bake featured a bark effect and was decorated with orange fruits and flowers.
Other oh-so cute decorative features included a tree-stump post box carved by the groom and an order-of-the-day sign designed to look like the type you might find in the woods to direct you to the fairytale castle. It was decorated with ivy and fairylights, which were turned on for the evening.
Rebecca wore an Allure Bridals gown from the 2022 Disney Fairy Tale Collection, Aurora. From the moment she found out that this line was sold in the UK, she knew she had to at least try one on. So, she wasted no time in making an appointment at Victoria Elaine Bridal in Maidstone, the only stockist in Kent and one of only a handful in the UK. “I tried on a few princesses but fell in love with Aurora from last year’s collection, as it was off-white and despite it having several layers of tulle, it was comfortable and not heavy at all,” Rebecca explains. Her veil, also from Victoria Elaine, was named Fantasia as it was adorned in little pearls placed to look like Mickey Mouse heads.
Julian and his groomsmen all went for the same suit: a brown check tweed with orange and wood detailing. They all accessorised with wooden cufflinks with the bee logo on them, along with orange ties.
The bridesmaids wore floor-length dresses in dark green. Rebecca was happy for them to choose whichever style they preferred as she wanted them to love their dresses and be comfortable all day. The bride also gifted each of the girls a piece of silver jewellery bearing the bee logo, as well as a silver hairpin, which they all wore in their half-up styles.
Entertaining their guests was an important factor to Rebecca and Julian. A fabulous cello and violin duo performed before and during the ceremony. They continued to play following the “I dos,” as guests gathered on the Castle’s terrace for drinks and canapés. “I asked them to play movie soundtracks, and guests had a great time when they recognised a tune they knew,” Rebecca tells us.
Afterwards, the newlyweds officially opened the archery in the grounds and following the wedding breakfast, they welcomed evening guests with the cake cutting and toasts. Loved ones then met in the grounds once more for a bird of prey show featuring falcons, owls, flying demonstrations and meet-and-greets with the birds.
The evening entertainment kicked off with the couple’s first dance: a very apt waltz to the music from Cinderella. They’d been taking dance classes and choreographed a routine themselves to make it something truly special.
A 50s-style band played two sets later on into the evening and we’re told they rocked the house. “I was a bit concerned about how our guests would react, as 50s music is quite niche but the dancefloor was full the entire night,” Rebecca remembers.
As a special extra, the couple also hired a live painter. She started with a blank canvas in the morning, and painted one of their couple shots throughout the day as guests looked on. The finished article was then handed to the newlyweds following the wedding breakfast and it remained on display for the rest of the day.
Throughout the night, loved ones frequented the photo booth, capturing snaps for the couple’s guest book as well as for their own fridge doors when they got home.
“Our photographer, Edward, went above and beyond,” Rebecca tells us. “He was everywhere, and despite many guests not speaking too much English, he was funny, charming and kept us to our timeline without making us feel rushed. Our photos are absolutely stunning too!
“The Castle’s team were also incredible. We almost lost the venue as it was being sold, but the new owners honoured our booking and we were their very first wedding! The team went absolutely above and beyond ensuring Julian and I had plenty of food and drink, and a genuinely great time. The new owner came by specifically to congratulate us and left us a present, which was so much appreciated.”

For a while at least, Jess and Sean shared an attraction from afar at work, until Jess was off sick one day.
“Sean decided it was time to play the romantic gentleman and ask if I was okay,” says Jess. A few messages led to a cosy winter walk and love blossomed. “I was attracted to everything about Jessica and still am,” Sean tells us.
Sean proposed in October 2021, while the couple were away visiting the Elan Valley. They’d been out walking all day and had decided to spend a night in, relaxing in their shepherd’s hut. So, Jess went for a shower and while she was in there Sean left a note telling her to put a dress on
and meet him outside. She dutifully did as he was asking and found him nervously waiting – he gave a small speech before asking her to marry him.
When the pair began their venue search they quickly fell in love with Westenhanger Castle. “It’s simply beautiful,” Sean explains. “There’s so much character, from the boat in the grounds to the beauty of the dove cote inside. The choice of places to get married was amazing and we could just see ourselves tying the knot there.”
They wasted no time in booking their date: 20th October, 2022. Read on as the groom, Sean, tells us more...
Jess wore a Justin Alexander gown. It was the first dress she tried on and knew from that moment it was the one. She had it slightly adjusted and had a bow removed from the back, but it was timeless, and she was the most beautiful bride.
I forgot the bow ties and left them back home in Ashford! Thankfully, some of Jess’ friends were out shopping and managed to get some almost identical ones from different charity shops, so we still had something to wear!
I was very nervous before Jess walked down the aisle but relaxed as soon as I saw her and how beautiful she looked. I felt like the luckiest man alive.
Our cake from a local bakery, was orange drizzle flavour. It was the first cake Jess ate after she gave birth to Betsy and I got the same one for her 30th birthday.
We purchased our place names from MacMillan and they fitted the theme perfectly. They each had a small dragonfly pin attached. The dragonfly is important to Jess as it reminds her of her dad. Our favours were two small bags of our favourite sweets – cola bottles and fizzy watermelons.
We chose food that suited us, and it was all amazing. Everyone commented on how good it was, both the wedding breakfast and evening options.
We decided on several subtle touches that reflected us as a couple. We saved wine bottles over the previous months and placed them on a table asking guests to leave us messages in them to be opened on our anniversary.
We had two live singers who were excellent. We’d seen them perform previously at other family celebrations, so knew we were in for a treat.
It was such a busy day, but one of our highlights was when we managed to have 20 minutes to ourselves, relaxing on a bench, drinking champagne, and just having few moments to ourselves.
Don’t overdo it and worry about the tiny things that on the day really won’t matter. Focus on the important things and exactly how you want them.
Travelling is an important part of our lives, so we planned our honeymoon trip together. We went to Dubrovnik for five days, and it was amazing. They city is the most beautiful place, filled with gorgeous restaurants. There was so much to do from hiking to going on a boat tour to a further three islands.

met Mark through work in 2018, while they were both retraining for different roles. Mark was a single parent whose two daughters lived with him full time, while Julia was living alone and looking for her Mr Right. “For me, when Mark was in the room, everything felt right with the world,” Julia says. “He was a little less romantic about it though, not realising how he felt until it was the last time we’d see each other and that awful feeling soon made him realise he had to say something to me.” Their first date was a family day out with Mark’s girls, and Julia says, “We all slotted together straight away, like a puzzle that was meant to be.”
Mark proposed at Leybourne Lakes, much to Julia’s surprise. He asked her to take a photo of him together with the girls, so she walked away to get a good vantage point, and when she turned they’d all taken their jackets off to reveal t-shirts saying, “Will you marry me?” and “Will you marry my Daddy?” Julia remembers: “The girls were so excited!”
The couple loved the idea of an outdoor wedding and originally looked up woodland wedding venues, before coming across Artists Beach House in Whitstable. They fell head over heels for it, and their recent move put it just 10 minutes away from their new home. Here, bride Julia shares her treasured memories of the big day and it’s preparations...
I wore an Essense of Australia gown. I went shopping with the girls and we picked out 14 dresses for me to try on, but I chose this style because it was princessy and fitted in well with the beach location. Most of all, it was comfortable!
When I started walking down the aisle through the meadow, I felt so emotional. It was just like I’d imagined it. The sun was shining, our song was playing, Issy was in front of me starting to throw her petals and Lily was behind holding my train.
We had a fish and chips van cater our wedding breakfast, and enjoyed exotic fruit cocktails for dessert. In the evening we had grazing platters with our cheese wedding cake.
Design your wedding around you, don’t follow the crowd. We kept some traditional elements that we liked and mixed formal with informal aspects. Our informal food choices meant guests were moving around and mixing without being sat at one table for most of the day. It really added to the relaxed feel of the celebration.
We had a very relaxed and informal wedding where our guests could mingle and meet each other. It was fantastic how everybody came together, dancing and laughing the night away.
Artists Beach House is already beautifully decorated with beach-themed memorabilia, interesting books, and cosy cushions. To complement this, Lily made chalk board signs, which were a really special touch.
We had a lively, four-piece, acoustic band called The Romantics for the evening. They played an excellent set while roaming the venue engaging with different groups, before bringing the house down as guests danced and sang under the stars.
The Street is a spit of land opposite Artists Beach House (The Beacon House) that’s revealed when the tide is out. We really wanted some of our photos out there, which was incredible. It was just amazing to be surrounded by the sea!
We hired The Beacon House for a week to have our family-moon there. It was so relaxing to wake up to the sound of the waves each morning. The venue just kept getting better as we explored the meadow, relaxed on the seating area, and enjoyed early-morning and late-night sea swims.
I’d recommend hiring a videographer. It’s an extra expense but so worth it. The day goes so quickly, so it was lovely to be able to look back at the video and remember it.

This shoot shows off new Kentish venue, Betteshanger Country Park, to best effect using natural tones and textures

As a venue, we’re hoping to explore the great outdoors with our wedding ideas and opportunities,” says Betteshanger Country Park’s Tyler Christy. “With this in mind, I wanted to set a real, natural, rustic tone for this shoot to reflect the wider grounds we’re in.” The colours and natural effects of the shoot reflect the surrounding countryside as well as the venue’s industrial history with rustic
coppers and the black undertones of the interiors.
With banqueting tables, local and fun food coupled with a relaxed vibe all becoming increasingly popular, the goal was to show this in the setup. Tyler continues, “Our inclusive dining style, feasting menus, and barbecue-style buffets all help to create a laidback day.”

Kylie Christie, marketing manager at the Old Kent Barn (www.theoldkentbarn.co.uk) says, “Consider rust-coloured linens for tablecloths, table runners or napkins and incorporate natural textures and materials like wood, hessian or muslins. If you want to add a metallic element, copper or gold accents such as candle holders, vases or table numbers alongside warm-coloured florals, mixed with earthy neutral tones work beautifully together.
“You can even choose a neutral-style wedding cake and incorporate your theme by adding rust accents in the shape of silk ribbons and metallic detailing, bringing everything together for a complete look.”
Claire Smith from The Creative Venue (http://www.thecreativevenue.info) says, “We’re loving the rust vibe and our new rust chiffon, has really taken off this season. Together with garnet, burnt orange, coral shades and touches of pampas, it provides the perfect base to create a sumptuous autumn look. But, it’s such a warm colour that it would work equally well in a summer theme with ivory, coral and natural tones.”
Samantha Richards from A Touch of Kent (www.atouchofkent.com) says, “Hues of autumnal colours are trending in mass proportions this year! Using aspects of wood, floods of candles and burnt oranges through table linen or florals will create the desired aesthetic.”
Samantha says, “Hot pinks are quickly becoming a huge trend for 2023 and 2024. Be bold with your colour choices to make an impact. The brighter the florals the better!”
Claire says, “Pale or Regency blue was the signature colour of this period, so including this particular hue in your palette is a must! As well as combining this with other pastel shades, add lots of beautiful spring flowers, gold accents, and candles to bring the sophistication, elegance and glamour of Bridgerton. It’s a theme that would complement any country house venue.”
Samantha says, “This classy yet simple look brings all the luxury feels. Add aspects of gold via cutlery or candlesticks, with the elegance of tapered candles and classy shades of neutrals and white.”

We do weekly deals on our facebook page. Feel free to contact me for more information.
MICHAELABARNESCREATIONS WWW.MICHAELABARNESCREATIONS.CO.UKEvie West from The Country Blush – Weddings & Events (www.thecountryblush.co.uk) says, “One of the easiest ways to create an eco-chic wedding is to re-use items that you (or your friends) already have. Fill glass jars or bottles with flowers or fairylights and use them as décor. You can ask loved ones to save any jars and after a quick wash you can upcycle them with some twine or ribbon, and you’re good to go! You can also opt for chalk board signs dotted around your venue, instead of printed stationery. This way, you can re-use them after the event, or even sell them.”
Samantha says, “This funloving styling choice is really starting to take hold in 2023. Add an array of bright colours to your florals, use festoon lights for those twilight evenings and include colourful napkins to bring your festivalstyle wedding to life.”
She continues, “Still hot in the styling scene is pampas grass, which also works brilliantly with a boho-chic festival vibe. Style your day with a full and fluffy pampas arch to accentuate your aisle and wedding photos.”
Maximalist luxe is right on trend in 2023 and this team show us exactly why in breathtaking fashion
Images courtesy of Eddy Fisher Photography
Feeling inspired by International Women’s Day back in March, photographer Eddy Fisher decided to push himself out of his comfort zone by putting together a bridal party shoot. The dream theme for the project was luxurious modern elegance with hints of sage, white, neutrals and gold. “This was the vision for the shoot from the beginning, but one thing lead to another and it just got bigger and better!” Eddy shares.
With the trending maximalist vibe in mind, florist Eleanor set out to fill the venue with flowers. She was given complete creative control
and embraced it going with quicksand roses, ammi, anemone, ranunculus, antirrhinum, campanula, wax flower, delphinium, eryngium, hydrangea, blossom, tulips and rose alpe de huez. By this time most of the suppliers were on board including an experienced hair stylist and make-up artist, along with an awesome videographer. “It was just a case of finding a table, tableware and cutlery,” says Eddy. “We managed to source them the day before the shoot – talk about cutting it fine! But in the end we had a bunch of amazing and talented people, all buzzing for the shoot.”

Goodnestone Park has been a dry-hire venue, with the 18th-century house included. However, couples then needed to hire a marquee and anything else they might require. But that’s all set to change now that the venue has enlisted the help of the Wedding Dolls to provide its awardwinning coordination service to all of its couples. That’s not all that’s changed, as Bohemia Canvas has designed and built a bespoke Italian-inspired orangery marquee, which now sits proudly among the exclusive-use gardens that surround the house.

No doubt, there’s something special about Goodnestone Park, from the 12-bedroom house available to couples for two nights or more, to the glorious grounds that include three ceremony
Joanne Scott, director of The Wedding Dolls, says, “We invited a team of amazing suppliers who were excited to work together on this colourful showcase. We used the clash of colours from the hand-painted canvas lining in the Orangery marquee to inspire the styling that celebrates colour and texture clashes. We wanted to show couples that they shouldn’t feel frightened to go bold on their big day! So, we created styling elements that bring together the predicted trend for bright hues, while offering a nod to the antique elements of the house.”

20-20 SOUNDS
07748 846 793 | www.20-20sounds.com
20-20 Sounds is a small but vastly experienced events team working in the Kent wedding industry. Established in 2009 as a DJ company, it has grown with the acquisitions of its photo booths, selfie mirrors, white LED dancefloor and, most recently, illuminated letters.
Philip Harvey from 20-20 Sounds says, “If we were to have a motto it would be that we want to turn a couple’s special occasion into a memory they’ll cherish for a lifetime. Put simply, we love being a small part of a couple’s big day.”
Philip and his team consider themselves incredibly fortunate to be recommended by some of Kent’s leading venues, something they don’t take likely. It’s an accolade they’re understandably very proud of. “It
shows that our hard work and commitment is valued, not just by those who book us but also with the venues we work alongside,” Philip says. “We believe the little things make a big difference. So, we pride ourselves on sourcing the best guest books, offering a great selection of backdrops to make your photos look amazing, and a choice of photo booth covers to make your experience as individual as your wedding.”
You can be sure that the team will always answer your questions openly and honestly. Having been to most venues in Kent they’re well placed to advise you on what would work best, but are equally happy to be guided by your choices.

AJ Pyrotechnics offers several different packages designed to complement your big day and budget, guaranteeing that, whatever you choose, the resulting display will remain in your memories for years to come.
Adrian continues, “We’re always looking for new things to offer, so as well as being able to perform magical displays without all the bangs, we can add to your special first dance with columns of indoor sparks as you’d see on TV! We’re so much more than a firework provider – we make lasting impressions that end your big day in style.”

Alice from entertainment booking service Entertainment Nation says, “How you want your day to feel is a really important factor when nailing your wedding entertainment. If you have visions of a serene atmosphere with elegant musical backdrops, then a string quartet, singing guitarist or instrumentalist would be ideal to keep the drinks and chatter flowing. However, if something quiet and understated just isn’t your vibe and you’d prefer everyone to be dancing and singing while non-stop partying leads to sore feet in the morning, an awesome pop, indie or rock band is a no-brainer. Alternatively, perhaps a funky soul and disco band would go down a treat with you soul music lovers.
“Want to make a statement at your wedding and make sure it’s unforgettable? Alternative entertainment like singing waiters and DJ live bands, who are known for involving the crowd, are stand-out options for a memorable wedding celebration that’s personal to you. For top advice, recommendations and a really friendly expert team, contact us at Entertainment Nation and we’ll help make your wedding dream a reality!”

This issue, we asked the region’s experts for their advice on planning an outdoor wedding
Nicky Clements from Nicola Rose Weddings and Events (www.nicolaroseweddingsandevents.co.uk) says: An outdoor wedding can be an incredibly beautiful and memorable experience for both you and your guests. However, ensuring everything runs smoothly requires careful consideration and attention to detail.
First and foremost, have a back-up plan as al fresco weddings are susceptible to unpredictable weather conditions. Hire a stretch tent with pretty sofas, chairs and low tables placed on large rugs. This will give you both shade on a sunny day, and cover from drizzly rain.
Have plenty of ice-cold drinks readily available that are easy for the guests to pick up. And why not have a mini freezer packed with delicious lollies? Also, pretty hand fans personalised with your wedding date for
Sam Reynolds from Emily&Me (www.emilyandme.co.uk) says: Think about how changeable the Great British weather can be and choose arrangements that can be set up indoors or out. If you’re having a gazebo decorated for example, check your florist also has a portable arch that can be decorated inside instead.
Next, have a think about flower varieties. Peonies are beautiful but don’t enjoy being left in the sun. Meanwhile, some soft summer flowers will wilt quickly in excessive heat, so choose a florist with expert knowledge to help guide you through. Emily&Me has 10 years’ experience!
If you’re hosting your wedding at home, look at what you have there already. A garden gate, porch, old arch or even a garden swing decorated with fresh flowers can be a standout feature that sets your wedding apart.
Table arrangements and larger urns or pedestals will last longer if they’re set in water rather than foam, which is ecofriendly too, so check how your florist will make yours. If you have to cut things from your budget, forget about pew ends and petal aisles, go for one Insta-worthy piece. Not only will you have incredible pictures but your guests will be kept busy taking their own gorgeous selfies!
the ladies would be a nice treat.
If it rains, no problem. Have to hand plenty of inexpensive umbrellas for your guests to grab should the heavens open. Lay down mats creating pathways, to protect elegant shoes from wet grass and dirt, also great for high heels.
Plan for plenty of lighting. Outdoor weddings often extend into the evening, so plan some illumination accordingly. Use fairylights, lanterns or candles to create a magical ambience. Ensure too that there’s adequate lighting for pathways, seating areas, and the dancefloor.
Finally, remember to have fun and embrace the unique charm of an outdoor wedding! With proper planning and attention to detail, your special day will be a magical celebration surrounded by the beauty of nature.
Karina O’Donnell from Simply Ceremonies (https://celebrant-uk.co.uk) says: Outdoor weddings allow you to take advantage of the natural beauty of your surroundings, whether this is a beach setting, mountain backdrop or stunning gardens. Being somewhere that has meaning to you can create a more romantic and intimate setting for you both, and obviously makes for stunning photographs.
Weddings held outside often offer more flexibility in terms of the number of guests you need to seat, as well as in your choice of décor. You can really bring your personality into the ceremony too with stunning floral arches and backdrops, which really fit the scenery. You can save on décor and lighting costs too as the natural beauty of your surroundings can provide a lot of the ambience.
Spending time outdoors has been shown to have several health benefits, such as reducing stress and improving mood. Plus, an al fresco wedding can provide a more relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for you and your guests. Choosing a unique setting can create unforgettable memories to cherish for years to come. It’s important to remember that outdoor weddings bring their own challenges though, such as inclement weather or accessibility issues but with proper planning, they can be beautiful and memorable.
Nicky Tulip from Nicky’s Photography (www.nphotography.co.uk) says: I love the outdoors for a ceremony and reception, however come rain or shine the elements can prove a challenge in both scenarios and there are some things to consider to make your photos all the more beautiful.
Shade is definitely recommended for the ceremony, whether it be a tree, garden gazebo structure or arch. People are often mislead into thinking that beautiful sunshine and perfect weather is just what we photographers want. However, full sun in the middle of a hot afternoon is just too much, it can blow out the white balance, makes people squint and creates harsh shadows and highlights. Shade is perfect for a balance of colour and lighting. Also, in the event of a light shower there’s a little cover for you and your guests too.
Think too about the timing of your “I dos.” In the warmer months with long, light days a later ceremony time works very well. Around 5pm is ideal to get that golden glow but the temperature drops ever so slightly and reduces the squinting.
Space: not such an obvious one, but I particularly like to move around subtly and from a little distance. To do this, I often head around the back of where the ceremony is taking place. This way I can get the best view with your guests in the images too, and I’m not in the way of their view of you getting married.
Chelsea Prior from Chelsea Buns Cake Design (www.chelseabuns.co.uk) says: Think about your cake carefully. Many people who go for an outdoor wedding choose to go for a more rustic, relaxed style cake (naked, semi-naked or buttercream finishes), which looks lovely and fits perfectly with the vibe of their day. However, during the summer months you have to consider the weather when choosing your cake. I always advise my couples of the risks that come with these finishes during the season as unfortunately buttercream and heat are not friends! If you take some simple steps though, the dangers hot weather will put your big-day bake in can be reduced.
Make sure you tell your cake designer exactly what setup you’ll have, allowing them to work out the best plan of action. If you have no indoor space at all and are wanting your cake set up in the middle of a lawn with no shade or cover, they’ll definitely need to know this.
Ensure that your cake can be positioned in the coolest spot of your venue, tipi or marquee. If there are resources for a fan or cooling unit to be placed near the cake, that’s great, use it!
Opt for as late a setup as possible. With all of my buttercream or semi-naked style cakes I speak directly with the venue to determine the absolute latest time I can set up. This will reduce the time it’s out in the heat or open air. Perhaps, if possible, have it delivered during a turnaround time or after the midday sun to help reduce the risk.
All of my buttercream cakes have a layer of chocolate ganache underneath the buttercream outer layer to help with stability. Speak with your cake designer about the things they can do to help overcome challenges posed by the heat and ease any stress about the cake on
the day.
Cut the bake straight after your ceremony. If the weather is particularly warm, move this forward and do it before you have your meal. This way you can still have your cake-cutting photos before your caterer takes it away to keep it cool before serving it as planned.
Planning is key when having your cake outside in the summer.

What can I do to stay cool, calm and collected on the morning of my wedding?
Natalie says: How you feel on the morning of your wedding can really set the tone for the day, so make sure to get an early night. A warm, candlelit bath before bed can give you some much-needed alone time. Light our Elemental Glow candle to help restore a sense of calm and balance. When you wake, get outside in the fresh air for 10 minutes for a boost of natural vitamin D.
Skin prep is the key to achieving a naturally radiant look and this starts the night before. Our Elemental Glow Balancing Face Oil is used by celebrity make-up artists for red carpet events and photo shoots. Three drops massaged gently into your skin at the end of your evening routine can help to minimise breakouts and calm inflammation ahead of the big day. You can also mix a drop with your moisturiser in the morning to boost hydration.
Our Spring Revival Hydrating Body Balm is ideal for hands and feet, to help soften rough skin and calm irritation. Treat yourself to two minutes before bedtime to massage in and leave overnight.
Finally, remember to drink plenty of water and take some long deep breaths to calm any last-minute nerves.

I love the look of false lashes, but I’ve never worn them myself. Should I try them for my wedding day? What advice do you have for me?
Clare says: Yes to trying out lashes, but not on your wedding day, as you may not get on with them. I recommend to all my brides to book a Bridal Creation Session (trial) with myself around two to three months before their big day. This gives us plenty of time to try different lashes and create your desired look.
Factors to take into consideration are your eye shape, whether you have a hooded lid, are a glasses wearer, eye size, allergy to latex (as you’ll find it in most glues). Not to worry if you do have an allergy, as latex-free glue can be used instead. Once we’ve established the look you want to go for, it’s a case of experimenting with a strip lash, small corner clusters, individuals or sometimes, depending on the length of your natural lashes, a lash lift and tint, which can be a game changer!
My professional tips for applying a strip lash are as follows:
•Ensure your lashes are clean and use an eyelash curler to gently lift and curl them, before applying a light coat of your favourite mascara.
•While you allow that to dry, measure your chosen false lashes to your natural lash line and trim any excess.
•Apply lash glue along the false lash line, and allow it to go tacky (around 40 to 60 seconds), then gently apply along your lash line. Top tip: never close your lid fully, always have your eye open and slightly looking down into the mirror, this makes for a neat and tidy fix, with no gaps. Ensure you add light pressure along the lash.
•Then onto the next eye, and once both sets are fixed into place, add more mascara onto your natural lash, lifting them into your false lash. This gives a seamless finish as well as an extra layer of security, keeping your lashes in place.

WhileNorthern Ireland might not be the first place you think of when planning a mini-moon, having spent two nights at the incredible Galgorm Resort near Ballymena, CWM deputy managing editor Kelly Andrews is here to change that!
Northern Ireland’s premier luxury hotel and spa, located just 30 minutes from Belfast, offers the ultimate haven of relaxation. Set within 380 acres of parkland with the sometimes rushing, sometimes babbling River Maine running through it, Galgorm’s enviable location truly provides an escape from the real world.
The jewel in Galgorm’s crown is the Thermal Spa Village, which I’d go so far as to say is unique, as I can honestly say I’ve never encountered its like. So vast is it that you need a map to orientate yourself! It’s fortunate indeed then that it has it’s own app containing just that, plus all the info you could possibly need during your stay. My accommodation was a mere two-minute walk to the entrance, so I was up bright and early, donned the robe and flip flops provided, and was off to investigate. Despite the flight from Stansted the previous day being one of the most stressful in recent memory, I could already feel the tension melt away as I strolled alongside the River nodding a cheerful, “good morning,” to fellow guests as I went.
If your experience of a spa is a pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and a sauna, maybe a hot tub if you’re really lucky, you’ll be swept off your feet by the Thermal Village! Mainly based in the open air it features a Wonderland of treats to explore and experience around every corner. I happened upon the Riverside Garden first; home to outdoor pools, hot tubs, The Salt Cave, a cafe and the Celtic Sauna. In some of the Resort’s packages you’ll receive a complementary 10-minute Celtic Sauna Infusion here, which was the case with my shepherd’s hut accommodation. So naturally, I wasted no time!
We were shown into the sauna by our sauna master, where I was pleasantly surprised to find a floor-to-ceiling window along one side acting as a frame for the stunning, tranquil landscape beyond. It occurred to me that what this place does so well is allow nature to do its thing in providing all the beauty and relaxation anyone could wish for. The landscape is part of the experience, not just a mere sideline, but I digress...
This treatment is a traditional Aufghuss ceremony consisting of three balls of ice being thrown onto hot coals, each one containing essential oils to benefit the body in a different way (breathing, circulation and skin) with each temperature more intense than the last. The air was circulated by the sauna master who used a towel to push the aromas towards us in the mesmerising, dance-like movements characteristic of the ceremony. As Celtic music played softly in the background, it was easy to drift away. When the ritual was over, we were escorted to the firepit area, where we were served a cool and refreshing watermelon punch to bring the body temperature back down.
As I continued my explorations, I came across The Walled Garden and couldn’t resist stopping for a cocktail in The Palm House, where I was able to recline and take in the views of the beautifully manicured gardens. Soon though, it was time for my private Riverside Bathing Experience. From reception, charming host Kenneth showed me the way to Birch, my very own secluded hot tub for the hour. The water is heated by log burner to 39 degrees, and the comforting smell of the wood burning only adds to the experience. A glass of prosecco waited for me and I was able to order more drinks using the QR code provided, which would be served tubside. All of my senses were engaged as I listened to the calming music and the sounds of the flowing river, sipped on my prosecco, enjoyed the smell of the wood smoke, and felt the warm water relax my muscles – this was the life!
The Thermal Village is actually open until 9pm, but by 6pm it was
time for me to reluctantly head back to the hut to get ready for dinner. I procrastinated all the way though, stopping en route for one last visit to my beloved River House (with its infared beds and views of the cascading River), a hot chocolate enjoyed on the riverside boardwalk, and a spell in The Alpine Garden’s vitality pool.
The foodies amongst you will be equally as delighted by Galgorm as the spa aficionados since there are no fewer than three restaurants to choose from for dinner: Fratelli Ristorante, Gillies Grill and Castle Kitchen + Bar (the latter just a short transfer away). That’s not even counting the other options for afternoon tea in The Conservatory, where you can also find the Cocktail Bar & Gin Library, and McKendry’s, all up at the main house.
This was my first visit to Northern Ireland and I found the people to be some of the friendliest I’ve ever encountered while travelling. We honestly felt like we were among friends, and the staff at Galgorm can’t do enough for their guests. We didn’t have to make the walk from our shepherd’s hut to Gillies Grill once as we simply dialled reception and a short while later a thoroughly charming member of staff would be there to collect us, which was most appreciated, particularly when it rained.
Gillies Grill is reportedly a favourite amongst guests and locals alike, and it’s not difficult to see why. With a warm informal atmosphere, and hunting lodge vibes, it offers a menu sure to delight any palate. Interestingly, the menus for all of the eateries at the Resort are accessed via QR code, so you can peruse at leisure on your phone. No doubt developed during the pandemic, it helps to keep everyone safe, but is also kind to the environment cutting down on paper.
I opted for the barbecue pork bites, followed by the braised brisket of beef for main, finished off with a selection of delicious Irish cheeses. After thanking our super-sweet and helpful server, we made our way through to the adjoining McKendry’s. With a traditional Irish pub vibe, it’s also the Resort’s exclusive whiskey bar, offering an impressive collection of 300plus varieties from more than 21 countries. Here, we happily let our dinner go down while sipping on another cocktail and listening to the live music.
When it comes to culinary highlights, for me, it was breakfast. I’ll admit to being like a kid in a sweetshop! The spread was a joyous sight to behold with everything you could possibly dream of for the most important meal of the day from muffins and pastries; fish, cold meats and cheeses; cereals and fruit; to pancakes, full Irish breakfast, waffles and toast. Self control was most definitely needed!
Opened as a bed and breakfast more than 30 years ago, Galgorm has grown into the immense site it is today with 125 luxurious guestrooms, including 48 deluxe rooms, Junior and Signature suites, along with a range of more out-of-the-ordinary accommodation such as log cabins, cottage suites, shepherd’s huts and exclusive residences perfect for groups. But it hasn’t stopped there as it’s still growing with works currently underway and more in the pipeline. Even as I visited, work on a group of two storey cottages was nearing completion and land was about to be cleared for the new treehouse accommodation.
I was happily ensconced in one of the Resort’s shepherd’s huts during my stay. Welcomed by an electric woodburner cosily heating this home away from home, we quickly discovered all the comforts we could wish for were provided. I was obsessed with the huge outdoor copper bath, which I made a dive for as soon as I’d dumped my bags. The complimentary G&T and bath bomb, were much appreciated additions following the aforementioned airport hell.
For honeymooners though, there are two particular showstoppers that I would highly recommend! If you’re looking for ultimate luxury, Suite 1857 can be found in the original manor house and offers unrivalled views of the River from its Juliet balcony. Elegant and romantic, its rooms are decorated in brocade wall coverings in a muted palette, antique lighting, and French Baroque-style furniture, with solid oak floors and beams. It features a lounge area with sofa and two arm chairs for curling up in front of the TV, plus bathroom with free-standing bath and walk-in shower.
If a secluded, rustic, woodland escape is more your vibe the Shepherd’s Hut Suite is the place for you. Nestled in Galgorm Wood with the cascading River running alongside it, it’s luxuriously appointed with a lounge, mini kitchen, and bathroom with shower room and free-standing bath. But the stand-out features, without doubt, are your very own sauna and hot tub on the terrace. Enjoy a soak in the warm waters as you watch the sun set and raise a glass to yourselves, the newlyweds.
