A spring in your step
Spring is finally upon us! I’m definitely in a brighter mood – there’s something about the lighter evenings, crisp sunnier days and pops of colour appearing that puts a spring in my step (excuse the pun)! Spring is the season of new beginnings. What a gorgeous time to start planning your new beginning – the new chapter of your life as a married couple.

Our surroundings are having a glow up! Flowers are transforming gardens and fields from brown landscapes into blankets of beautiful colour, and trees are slowly transforming from their wintery hardened exterior to flourishing branches of greens and brights. All of this gives us a hint of what’s to come over the next few summery months and I love it!
With so much positivity and so many colours around you, now’s the time to start thinking about your day. Do you have a theme in mind, what colours are you loving, have you thought about your dress design? All of these questions will be flying around your mind right now and that’s where we come in to help!

Those wanting a quirky setting for their big day should look no further than London’s Swingers West End. This uber-fun, high-end crazy golf venue located in the centre of the capital, offers guaranteed fun, a relaxed setting and spectacular food and drink.
The new wedding packages will function on its newest course, The Meteorite, helping newlyweds tee off to a winning start. Taking inspiration from 1920s English fair grounds and the seaside riviera, The Meteorite provides the perfect backdrop for those memorable snaps. This course is the ultimate event space, with a private entrance offering exclusivity for the nuptials. Located on the roof-top terrace, an expansive al-fresco space, it boasts botanical décor, smart banquet seating and a retractable roof ensuring the space is perfect in all weather.
There are two packages to choose from. The Perfect Set is ideal for more intimate gatherings. Priced at £85 per head for a minimum of 20 guests, the package includes a reserved area where friends and family can enjoy a glass of bubbles and delicious nibbles on arrival. Alongside two drinks per person and two rounds of London’s finest street-food. It wouldn’t be a wedding at Swingers without a round of crazy golf, so guests can enjoy an evening of unlimited crazy golf on the course, too.
The Forever Set is the option for guest lists of more than 50. Priced at £135 per head, this package offers all the above and more. With a cocktail on arrival alongside three hours of unlimited drinks. This package

Afternoon Tea is the perfect option for a relaxed hen do or some couple time pre- or post-wedding.

Best laid plans
Yasmin and William met on Twitter in 2014. “We spoke for a year before William finally decided to visit me in London,” says Yasmin. “We spent the most amazing weekend together. Following that, we met five more times before William decided to move to London and the rest is history,” she says.
A few years later William pulled out all the stops for his romantic proposal. “We’d planned an anniversary meal at The Shard and had gone up to the rooftop. There were other people around, so I had no idea what was coming,” she says. “Then a gentleman started telling us about all the sights that you could see across London, and I thought he was just bored with his shift, so we spoke for a while,” she adds. Little did she know, he was distracting her whilst they set up. “We got led to
the lift as I was told it was closed. The lift doors opened and there were candles, roses, a photographer, and William got down on one knee. He was shaking so much he almost put the ring on the wrong finger,” she says.
They were due to tie the knot in Scotland, where William’s from, in November 2020, but Covid changed those plans. “Instead, we had a smaller civil ceremony in Watford where we live with six of our nearest and dearest followed by a lowkey family dinner and planned the larger celebration for July 2021,” Yasmin explains. “I then found out that I was pregnant, so we postponed again. Our son was born in September 2021, and we finally got our day in July 2022! We’ve got so many anniversaries now we’re not sure which one to celebrate!”

27 REAL WEDDINGS
I got my dress in early 2020, before we had our baby. It was the tenth dress I put on and I knew it was the one because I burst into tears.
I wore diamond jewellery and added the finishing touch to my shoes to give them the extra wow.
Our bridesmaids wore Victoria Bridal self-tie dresses in sage green. Having bridesmaids of all different shapes and ages meant these were perfect as they all wore them differently and felt great in them.
William looked handsome in a tux with Louis Vuitton bow tie and cufflinks. Our groomsmen all wore three-piece suits also with Louis Vuitton bow ties to complement William’s look.
For our favours, we gifted guests with mini packs of mints and my niece made some cute sage green heart cookies. She’s an amazing baker and family is so important to me, so I loved that she was involved.
My nieces and nephews were our page boys and flower girls. It was a lovely way to get them involved in the day and they all did so well.
The Gherkin is William’s favourite venue in London, and it overlooks The Shard, which is my favourite and where William proposed so choosing that for our venue felt perfect.
28
We wrote our own vows and William got choked up during his, which was really sweet. We created our own vows books and they looked great.
I bought each of my bridesmaids a personalised Katie Loxton bag as a thank you gift. They all loved them.
The transparant card box fitted in perfectly with the rest of the decor as it was unassuming and understated.
I loved our table plan design. The sage green and contemporary style really suited the look of our day.
For our centrepieces we had vases filled with a variety of green, white and cream flowers. They looked so classy against the white tablecloths, transparent chairs and touches of silver.
We lined our aisle with gorgeous neutral flower arrangements, petals and lanterns. It looked beautiful. We had the most stunning floral displays dotted throughout the venue, it all came together to create a gorgeous backdrop.
I loved my bouquet. It was exactly the style that I had imagined and with it being neutral in colour, it suited the look of my dress.
My niece made our cake and did such a wonderful job! It was a seminaked vanilla sponge with a topper representing us as a family.
We really wanted to be sat with our guests, rather than on a top table. We loved being in the middle of it all.
29 REAL WEDDINGS
We had a harpist playing at the ceremony. It created a really calming romantic atmosphere.
The speeches were hilarious. William’s best man, Fraser, really put the effort in with his best man kit and embarrassing pictures and stories.
For something a bit different, we chose Dhol drummers to get the party started. They were a huge hit and it bought some of my Indian roots into the day. Later on a saxophonist played along with a DJ.
We managed to take some time out for pictures on our own, which was a really special part of the day for us.
When picturing my wedding since being a little girl I never imagined being able to share it with our baby, it just felt so special. I love that he’s in our pictures and part of our first dance.
YASMIN AND WILLIAM’S LITTLE WHITE BOOK
The candy cart was a real showstopper. The design looked amazing, and we all enjoyed the sweets throughout the day.

Finding Neverland
Leanne and Paul swapped the highlands for the city for their wedding weekender Images courtesy of Virginia Photography
32
Leanne
and Paul met in the summer of 2013, at a house-warming party hosted by Leanne’s friend and her husband, who just happened to be Paul’s brother. “We still thank them for buying that house and throwing that party!” says Leanne. They instantly clicked and started dating. “For the next couple of years, I spent periods of time working in London and we loved making the most of our time in the city together, with Paul visiting every other weekend,” she says. By the end of 2015, Leanne was settled back in Aberdeen, and they spent time living life to the full and making memories together. “We weren’t sure if a wedding would ever be part of our story as the idea of a big traditional celebration never suited us,” she says. However, things changed when the pandemic hit, and they started to see more micro-weddings taking place. “It changed the way we were thinking, so after nine wonderful years together, we decided to tie the knot in a way that reflected us, in a city that we love.”
The duo got engaged in September 2021, on Eilean Shona, a remote island off the west coast of Scotland. “It was our third visit to the island, and Paul had planned to propose on the shore of the secluded beach, but his big moment was hampered by the arrival of a group of kayakers just as he planned to get down on one knee,” says Leanne. “After a quick detour to the summit of the island, he proposed as I was looking out at the views. I was so surprised when I turned around, that I forgot to say yes,” she says. “Eilean Shona is a completely magical place, where J.M. Barrie holidayed in the 1920s and is said to be the real-life inspiration for Neverland, so it was truly special to us both to experience that moment there.”
ELOPEMENT VIBES
They opted for a micro wedding in London, followed by a party at home in Scotland with all their friends and family. “The style of our day was casual, relaxed, and personal. We both knew that a big ceremony wouldn’t suit us, so we opted for a semi-elopement vibe with 12 of our nearest and dearest and chose London as our destination because it’s one of our favourite places in the world,” says Leanne. “I loved the idea of a city-hall wedding, and Old Marylebone Town Hall is a truly historic, stunning venue. I love thinking about all the couples that have walked through those doors as newlyweds over the years,” she adds. They wanted to follow the ceremony with a fun afternoon of drinking and dining in the pub, and The Phene was perfect for that with its picturesque beer garden and beautiful private rooms. “We ended our day with drinks outside at the rooftop bar of the Treehouse Hotel where we were staying for the weekend,” she says. “London was experiencing a mega-heatwave and sitting outside in the warmth of the night looking out over the city, under the brightest full moon, was the best end to our day.”
VINTAGE GLAMOUR
Leanne wore stunning Catherine Deane separates for her bridal outfit. “I saw them on Instagram and I loved them instantly. I thought about making a spontaneous purchase, but my cautious nature got the better of me and I ended up visiting a few traditional bridal shops in Aberdeen over several months,” she recalls. After not finding ‘the one’, she followed her gut and made an online appointment with Catherine Deane. “I loved the entire range, but the Monique Top stood out to me as having a glamorous vintage vibe, which felt completely me, and the gorgeously light Anika skirt was exactly what I wanted for a summer city wedding,” she says. “I didn’t know anyone who’d ordered their wedding dress online, so I was anxious but the process was amazing. I visited the Catherine Deane showroom when I was in London a few months later for my second look outfit for our reception party. I had the best bridal shopping experience in their gorgeous showroom and chose a bridal jumpsuit for my party look,” she adds. Leanne accessorised with a Catherine Deane veil and carried a small, beaded handbag that complemented the intricate detailing on her bridal top. “My shoes were from a Spanish designer Flordeasoka, which I got in Madrid whilst on holiday there with some friends – I chose green velvet sandals with a gold block heel, as I really wanted something that didn’t feel too bridal and I knew I’d wear them again,” she says.

SQUAD GOALS
Paul wore tartan trews (trousers) instead of the traditional Scottish kilt and paired them with a sage green wool jacket and waistcoat. “He opted for the Isle of Skye tartan, which we loved the colours of,” Leanne explains. “We have lovely memories of times together in Skye, so this felt appropriate since Paul’s surname is not associated with a traditional clan tartan,” she says.
Paul’s best men, his brother Gary and his best friend David, also wore tartan trews in a different tartan to Paul’s, which happened to tie in with Leanne’s dad’s kilt and Paul’s dad’s trews. “With it being a micro-wedding with only our parents and bridal party, we didn’t have a styled approach or a colour scheme, and instead just wanted a relaxed vibe with everyone feeling comfortable in their outfits,” Leanne says.
“My bridal squad consisted of my four best friends, Alison, Charlotte, Tanita and Martin. With it being a mix of female and male, I didn’t follow the bridesmaid route and instead called them my Friends of Honour,” she says. “I asked them to each wear an outfit of their choice – they’re all wonderfully stylish and I wanted them to wear whatever they’d feel great in on the day, rather than worrying about matching styles or colour. All that mattered to me was that they were there by my side.”
FAVOURITE BLOOMS
Leanne’s bouquet was brimming with her favourite blooms; bright dahlias, thistles (reflecting Scotland), yellow billy balls and lots of greenery. “The colours matched perfectly with Paul’s tartan. I absolutely adored my bouquet and managed to save the eucalyptus and billy balls to dry out at home, which now sits in a vase in my living room,” she says. Small vases matching Leanne’s bouquet were created for the centrepieces. “As we had a destination wedding, we didn’t want too many flowers that’d go to waste. The venue staff and our guitarist took these home at the end of the day,” Leanne says.
“For our favours, guests were treated to love heart jelly sweets from the sweet shop beside our old flat in Aberdeen, which is dedicated to supporting special needs people in the workplace,” says Leanne. The duo opted for a simple yet elegant chocolate and vanilla Cutter & Squidge cake that was decorated with petals and their place names were made by Leanne’s Friends of Honour using plantable seed paper.
“The Phene provided our catering. Our canapes were mini burgers with aubergine and halloumi skewers served in the beer garden in the afternoon, and guests had a choice of menu options for our three-course meal in the Oakley Room. It was all delicious,” she says.
FOND MEMORIES
“During our meal in the private room at the Phene, we had a guitarist, Stephanie Oliver, play an acoustic set. She was such a hit with our guests and had quite a few overwhelmed with emotion as she played some gorgeous songs!” recalls Leanne. “Before the dessert plates were even cleared away, everyone was on their feet dancing around the dinner table and singing our hearts out to songs by Stephanie. She assures me we were the best crowd she’d ever played to – which says a lot about how loud we were for a crowd of only 14! We loved her so much our guests managed to persuade her to stay and join the party afterwards,” she says.
Looking back, Leanne and Paul have some wonderful memories from their day. “Our entire wedding weekend was memorable from start to finish, but the most special moment was standing in the Pimlico Room at the Old Marylebone Town Hall listening to our registrar recite the words I’d written for our ceremony script and looking around the room at all of those closest to us there. Everyone was in tears, but I was so happy I couldn’t keep the smile off my face,” says Leanne. “We both felt incredibly relaxed and beaming with happiness. Our celebration was an authentic reflection of us as a couple and the small nature of it made it feel so intimate and filled with emotion,” she says. “We were doing the things we love to do – wander around the streets of London, eat great food, and drink with friends and family in the pub. The fact that we could do all of this after our ceremony was exactly why we chose the style of wedding we did, and it meant we genuinely loved everything about our day.”

Brunswick House set the stunning scene for Catherine and Nick’s big day
Catherine and Nick were both out with friends at Bluebird on the King’s Road when they first met. “He went old-school and walked up to me to start up the conversation,” Catherine recalls. “We immediately got on and the conversation was so natural, easy, and enjoyable. He asked to take me out and we went on our first date the week later,” she says. After many more dates and memories being made, Nick proposed. “It was a complete surprise! We’ve always been on the same page with regards to our future together, but he always teased me saying he wouldn’t propose for years to come,” she says. “I’d been abroad for work, which also meant we weren’t able to celebrate my birthday together,” she says. They had a tasting menu booked at Trishna in Marylebone the following weekend, for what Catherine thought was a birthday celebration, but Nick had other plans. “It was a beautiful sunny day in October, and we ended up going for a bike ride and coffee at St Katharine’s Docks in the morning, had lunch on the balcony and then Nick suggested we go for an aperitif at Chiltern Firehouse later on,” she says.
“He ordered a bottle of Champagne for us to enjoy on the terrace and then the Maitre D offered to give us a tour of the hotel; as Nick specialises in hospitality, this wasn’t unusual behaviour!” she says. Their tour ended up in the private fire tower, which isn’t accessible to your average guest.
“There’s a gorgeous little glasshouse with two armchairs, a coffee table and a ladder to the roof. I went up the ladder for a peak outside and turned around to Nick below me on one knee,” she says. “He was holding a box, housing the most stunning ring. And like that, we were engaged and yes I did cry!”

Seeing Nick at the Bandstand as I walked down the aisle was a really special moment for me.
Brunswick House just down the road.
We organised a retro cream bus to transport everyone from Battersea Park to Brunswick House.
Nick has had this awful ring someone gave him years ago. It’s a silver chunky snake wrapping round the finger, and he puts it on sometimes to wind me up. My sister gave it to him to put on my finger at the altar, which made us both crack up!
Our place names were written on classic off-white paper with sage green ribbons and placed on each person’s serviette.
41 REAL WEDDINGS
For our centrepieces we had lots of wild whites and green flowers, to reflect a natural park theme.
We were both so happy and excited to see each other and all of our favourite people! I was surprisingly chilled out on the day. It flew by so quickly and we weren’t ready to let the day end.

LASSCO Brunswick House is so stunning, so we didn’t really need to add much more decoration.
Our table plan was a sage green design in line with the whites and greens in the flowers.
A favourite part of the day for us was the speeches. They were all incredible.

I love this kind of image because it gives me the opportunity of experimenting as well as creating a special moment of intimacy for the couple that they can cherish towards the end of their day. What they are left with is also a stunning fine art photo to hang in their living room – the wow factor is granted.
A photo of the bride along with her bridesmaids and mother is always welcome and captures the special bond between these women. If you can make it fun it’s even better, and this specific pose came from a joke with the mother-of-the-bride which was embraced by all.
Make sure to have a photo of the father-of-the-bride during their dance because it’s always filled with the deepest emotions, above all if they’re dancing to their song.

I love a wedding car photo as it looks great and clients get a memory of the car as well. It’s a fun, intimate and in my opinion a definite musthave photo.
If the bride’s wearing a veil, be sure to capture it in as many ways possible. This shot is romantic and beautiful and it’s one of my favourites.
The confetti throw is a must. It’s just so funny and you can see so much action going on. Everybody is a part of this and again this and it’s great to capture so much natural emotion.

Your wedding happens once and you want to capture as much as you can so you have some really lovely memories to look back on. Here’s a list of special moments couples should ask their photographers to capture on their wedding day…
Opening morning gifts – Some couples like to surprise one another with gifts on the morning of their wedding. Natural reactions when opening them can lead to some beautiful pictures.
Getting ready – Ask your photographer to capture some natural pictures of everyone getting ready, laughing and enjoying each other’s company.
Champagne shot – You might want to open a bottle of bubbly while you’re getting ready. Ask your photographer to get a shot of you popping the cork.
The first look – One of the most special moments of the day is when the person at the bottom of the aisle sees their partner for the first time.
Aerial shots – Leaving the ceremony is something you’ll want to capture but why not ask your photographer to take this shot from an aerial view. The results are gorgeous and creative.
Sneaking off – Just before your reception begins, grab a moment to create the perfect sneaking off picture where it looks like the couple are running away for some alone time. These are really fun to look back on.
Putting your jewellery on – You can get some elegant images of a bride putting on her earrings and the groom fixing his tux. These shots capture the couple’s last solo moments before walking down the aisle.

There was nothing stopping Iona from getting to her ceremony! On the wedding morning, their cars couldn’t get through due to a protest on the street outside, so she lifted up her dress and strode out onto the gridlocked streets of London to grab a black cab. This looks like the scene from a movie – love it!

Do your day your way! Millie and Joel got together whilst working in the same coffee shop, so they revisited that very place on their big day. What great memories to relive.

Just wow! What’s not to love here – the dress, the dramatic backdrop, the atmospheric lighting. Neda and Pedram’s day was something out of a fairytale.
This has a sweet story behind it that makes me smile. Becky was pregnant when they got married but not everyone knew. When they came across this ice cream van with the wording on the back, they used this very pic to let others know the happy news.

ANTONIA LAWES, ANTONIA LAWES JEWELLERY
About…
Antonia Lawes is a second-generation goldsmith and designer, manufacturing in the heart of London’s Hatton Garden. Specialising in coloured gemstones and diamonds, Antonia prides herself on sourcing rare gemstones and traditionally hand-crafting bespoke ring mounts and settings that stand the test of time.
Most popular product…
My top selling products recently have been rings featuring teal-coloured sapphires. This beautiful gemstone has a whole spectrum of tones ranging from deep rich oceanic colours to light airy pastels. With most coming from mines in Montana and found closer to the surface of the earth, they’re a great option for those looking for a more ethically sourced gemstone.
Key trends this year…
Coloured wedding bands. Whether it’s incorporating birthstones to represent loved ones, or spicing up your classic diamond ring with a new punchy coloured band to contrast. It’s a memorable and fun way to incorporate a touch of individuality to your ring stack.
Top tip for accessorising your big-day look…
Sentimentality has forever been the best way to accessorise. I’ve created countless bespoke pieces to include birthstones, engraved names and sentiments, or incorporate gemstones from heirlooms passed down from loved ones.

LAURA SUTTIE, QUEENSMITH
About…
Queensmith is a bespoke jeweller based in Hatton Garden, where couples an see the master goldsmiths hard at work in the in-house workshop, before settling down in a private meeting room with their dedicated design consultant and qualified gemmologist.
Most popular product…
Simple diamond stud earrings. The most popular feature round diamonds or you can choose to match the shape of your engagement ring for a seamless combo you’ll wear forever. Solitaire diamond necklaces are always a good idea for creating a refined, minimalist look that’ll never seem outdated. Choose a diamond eternity ring for your wedding band to add a little extra sparkle to your ring stack.
Key trends this year…
Ear stacks with diamond studs graduating in size with the largest earring at the base of their ear lobe. Layered necklaces have been a trend for a few years now, but we think this year they will be a lot more stripped back and minimalist rather than chunky chains and mixed metals.
Top tip for accessorising your big-day look…
Stick to the minimalist approach with your big-day jewellery and invest in one or two well-made, key pieces that you’ll cherish forever.

FEEL THE RHYME Feel the rhythm,
This Cuban-inspired shoot oozes energy, fun and tropical vibes
Boho meets bold colours in this stunning styled shoot. Jessica Fasciano of Style it! Events, pulled together a team of local suppliers to bring her tropical theme to life. “Some couples dream about a destination wedding, but that’s not always possible, so we developed the idea of bringing the Cuban magic to London,” says Jessica. “The vision was all about Cuban charm and its festival vibes, colours and sounds. We brought together palms, bright blooms, creamy tones and some Salsa music to create those big smiles and dancing hips,” she says.
The shoot took place at the Glasshouse in Hackney, which is a brand new bright and modern venue, surrounded by nature in Springfield Park. Perfect for intimate weddings, it’s the right location for couples that look for cosy celebrations with their loved ones. Its retractable skylights allow its guests the feeling of an outdoor event while having the security of a covered venue with the press of a button.
“The colour palette mainly focuses on creamy light tones that are brightened up by coral and peach touches and the result is a warm joyful environment that makes you move your hips to the notes of the trombone,” says Jessica. The gorgeous flower arrangements by Thistle and Folly helped achieve the Caribbean look and beautifully enriched the layout styled by Jessica and Nikki from The Toast.
The focal point was the ceremony setting with white French shutters enriched by a gorgeous oblique flower installation that popped out from the backdrop. “The lounge area is characterised by layers of drapes and wicker lanterns that give life to a burnt orange velvet chesterfield three-seat sofa and a beautiful chest of drawers. From there we move to the reception area, a place where light meets colour and detail,” she says. Stationery was created by Rock Paper Cloud and consists of a botanical collection with a sprinkle of real pressed flowers.
“I wanted to keep continuity with the tropical theme in the outfits too. The macrame and acrylic palm leaf earrings became that additional touch to the fabulous dresses designed by Dandelions and Pearls and Constellation Ame ‘s,” says Jessica. Hair and make-up was kept natural for that effortless and sexy vibe and the fuss-free style makes a beautiful complement to the tropical feel of the overall look.

SELF-CARE Soothing
Our Social Media Editor, Gracie Leader, immersed herself in the world of Reiki to find out if the form of meditation can help you remain calm in the lead up to your big day
76
It’sno understatement to say that planning your big day can cause your stress levels to shoot all the way up. Not only are you spending a great deal of time (and money) to ensure every little detail is perfect; it also represents a giant life change you are about to experience with your partner.
That’s why, in the lead up to your nuptials, practicing self-care is more important than ever. Whilst self-care can look different for everyone (exercising, eating healthily or reading) one form of mindfulness you may not have thought of before is reiki.
Reiki is best known as a form of Complementary Therapy that focuses on energy healing. It works with the energy fields around the body and involves the transfer of universal energy, to be channelled from the practitioner’s palms to your body.
The thought process behind Reiki is that every living thing and their surrounding atmosphere contains energy, and so this can be channelled in a way to rebalance energy.
For a person, this is within the body and mind to support both your physical and emotional wellbeing. The physical in terms of aches and pains, the emotional in terms of feelings of anxiety and stress.
There is scepticism that surrounds the practice of Reiki. But there is a reason the NHS supports and recommends it as a hospital service and even if you are not a fan of spirituality, there is evidence to suggest Reiki may be useful to help manage mental health conditions, particularly anxiety, stress and depression.
Of course, I couldn’t possibly recommend Reiki without indulging in the self-care practice myself. So, in February, after a hectic and busy start to the year I met with Reiki Master, Georgina Hemsley. Georgina has been practicing Reiki for over 11 years. A qualified therapist, Georgina owned her own salon for 3 years specialising in massage, Reiki and facial treatments and a focus on organic and natural skincare.
“Reiki supports our emotional and mental well-being in many different ways, and can be different for each person, each time, Georgina explained to me. “This is dependent on what a person may be experiencing at the time of receiving reiki or if they have come for a reiki session for a specific reason, for example, to help them, in advance, navigate the sometimes overwhelming process of getting married. We suggest a treatment per month in the run up to your big day so we can support you from the beginning and you can enjoy the entire process right up to when you say I do.”
After getting myself comfortable on the treatment bed, Georgina explained how my body might (or might not) react to the treatment. She told me that some people feel very hot, others feel extremely cold, and some describe seeing bright colours or flashes of light. Georgina warned me it can be an emotional process and to allow any or all feelings to bubble up.
Georgina began the session with some guided mediation including breathwork and manifestation. She asked me to clearly consider my intentions for the rest of 2023 and place them at the front of my mind.
Your intention are vital when practicing reiki. Georgina encouraged me to ask myself “what are my stresses? Is anything troubling me? What would I like to receive?” I learnt, the more direct you can be about your self-healing practice, the more the universe will hear you.
I then received a temple massage to release tension and promote relaxation. This absolutely eased me into the right mindset for the rest of the treatment and allowed me to drift into a world of calm.
For the rest of the hour Georgina got to work – doing what she does best – using a combination of crystals, sound baths, and gentle touches to my pressure points.
At the end of the session Georgina informed me she had spent time rebalancing my chakras – noting my throat chakra was particularly unbalanced. She explained I might feel a difference in the way I communicate in the next few days - wanting to stay quiet or be more vocal.
“During a treatment, I disassociate myself from the physical being of the client. I am an extension of their energy. A vessel if you will,” Georgina explains. “It is not unusual to pick up on their feelings or any pains they may be experiencing during the session. I allow myself to be intuitively guided to move my focus to the parts of the body that need work. I clear this energy and set an intention to balance and instil a sense of calm.”
Whilst everyone sees different results from reiki, I came away from my first treatment feeling relaxed, renewed and with a sense I was better prepared to tackle anything come my way.
I recommend going in with an open mind and allow yourself to fully immerse in the treatment. Although it can’t be guaranteed the treatment will work for everyone, giving yourself an hour to switch off and allow someone else take your worries into their hands, can never be a bad idea.
As Georgina explained to me, she can’t recommend reiki enough for brides-to-be planning their big day. “We all know whilst our wedding is a magical day, the build-up can be very stressful. Reiki healing can help guide you throughout the planning and preparation, reiki will work with you to give you exactly what you need, so you can be very specific on your intention and what you want to gain from the reiki healing,” Georgina explains. “This could be to receive more support from your friends and family, to conquer any last-minute hurdles that arise, to ease your nerves, or to support your energy to feel calm and relaxed throughout.”
Caring for yourself and practicing mindfulness doesn’t always have to be seeking out these treatments however. Not everyone has the time, or indeed money, to meet a reiki master regularly.
Instead, it is important to find what works for you and build it in to your daily routine. Taking elements of Reiki into your self-care routine in the run up to the big day will help you to feel more relaxed and calmer. Self-care for you could reading, journaling or completing your skincare routine.
As Georgina is also the founder of Hemsley Organics she knows the importance of a good skin care routine. “Our Organic skincare can give you a well-deserved serotonin boost and provides an opportunity for mindfulness. Having a morning or evening routine can make you feel happier, as it’s all about the ritual and putting time and energy into making yourself feel good,” she explains. “Implementing a ritual can deepen that sense of well-being and prompt you to take just a little time out for yourself each morning and evening.”
Georgina and her husband Joe created the Anahata Collection to combine Skincare and Reiki. Feel good products that work to balance the plant-based extractions from the manufacturing process. Allowing them to be in their purest state of energy, as nature intended, supercharging them with their natural energies to enhance the efficacy of their benefits and provide a more spiritual skincare experience. BOOST YOUR SKIN FROM WITHIN
Raising the bar, St.Tropez’s new Self Tan Luxe Body Serum infused with a unique collagen-enhancing complex, responds to consumer demand for a hydrating, longer-lasting natural glow with skincare benefits. It works to firm, smooth, soothe, reduce redness and even skin tone while instantly hydrating skin in the most easy-to-use format yet. What’s more, it’s infused with the iconic St.Tropez Luxe scent, a fine fragrance with Tritech Olfactory Fragrance Technology, which equals no biscuity smell.
Having learned of its zero transfer attribute I asked Michaella Bolder, St.Tropez tanning and skincare expert, whether she’d recommend this particular product to brides, and if so when would be the best time to apply. She told me, “Yes, it’s a beautiful tan for brides. However, I’d always recommend to apply tan the day before. This way, you can be prepped and make sure you apply evenly without any worries or concerns on the morning of your wedding. It is zero transfer but as the tan starts to take, you want to make sure you’re super-confident, as it comes through over four to eight hours. So, always apply the day, evening or 24 hours before your big day. It leaves you with a beautiful rich, medium glow and with the skin being so hydrated it just beams.”
£35, available at Boots, Superdrug, Look Fantastic, ASOS, Amazon and all leading online retailers.

Left with a hole in my life when my previous primer ran out I was bereft. Until Milk’s Pore Eclipse Mattifying Primer landed on my desk that is. This lightweight water cream makeup primer with skincare benefits claims to blur pores and control shine for a long-lasting soft matte finish, and I can confirm it does just that. It feels fantastic to apply and leaves skin feeling satin smooth. After a long day visiting London recently my foundation looked as good when I arrived home as it did when I left. What’s more, it’s 90 per cent natural, clean, vegan, cruelty-free, noncomedogenic, paraben-free, and silicone-free. I’ve found a new favourite! £31, www.cultbeauty.co.uk

OH-SO NATURAL
Founded in 1996, Ringana is a pioneering Austrian skincare company creating products so fresh it’s recommended they’re used within 10 weeks of opening. As well as using fantastic vegan formulations, the products also feature some of 2023’s most sought after active ingredients. I love the Tinted Moisturiser from the brand’s FRESH range, containing squalane. This olive-oil based ingredient is becoming increasingly popular because it helps to reconstitute our hydrolipidic film and is easily absorbed without leaving an oily residue behind. It works to strengthen the skin’s barrier and maintain hydration too. As a result, this gorgeous moisturiser creates a radiant, perfectly even complexion. Plus, the product covers the skin in a delicate tint, thanks to mineral pigments that adapt beautifully to its tone erasing small defects, redness and pigmentation spots. £40.80 (€46,90), www.ringana.com

L’Eau d’Issey Pivoine is 87 per cent made up of ingredients of natural origin, while this proportion for L’Eau d’Issey pour Home Vétiver is even higher at 93 per cent. These ingredients are exclusively sourced in a manner that respects the principles of fair trade and are responsibly harvested.

BAN THE BLOAT
Professional nutritionists Wedding Wellness explain how to avoid untimely bloating on your wedding day
Oneof the most common digestive complaints is bloating, an uncomfortable, sometimes heavy sensation that can follow after eating a meal that for some, also results in feeling tired, unable to concentrate and having a physically noticeable bloated tummy. Not symptoms you want to endure on any day, let alone on one as special as your wedding.
There are many possible causes of bloating, some of which come with additional digestive complaints such as pain, constipation and flatulence – usually an indication of poor gut health. These symptoms are usually referred to as IBS by doctors, but may also be the result of intolerances, allergies or other gut disease. There are however some simple, everyday things you can consider to help reduce that after-meal bloat. County Wedding Magazines’ beauty and wellness editor, Kelly Andrews, chatted to Minal Sudra and Elizabeth Andrews from Wedding Wellness to find out more.
CHEW PROPERLY
Most of us chow down through conversation, mid emails or in front of the telly without giving much thought to chewing our food. But, there are enzymes in the mouth that kick start digestion and if you haven’t allowed enough time for them to work in the mouth, it can make life more difficult for the rest of the gut to properly break down food, leading to irritation and bloating. Aim to chew each bite 20 to 30
times to allow the gut to digest with ease.
EAT AWAY FROM DISTRACTIONS
Focussing on food in front of you not only helps you to taste it better, your brain also has the chance to engage with what you see and smell before the first bite. Without the distraction of something else, potentially stressful, such as work emails, social media, or the latest crime drama on TV, your body is in a state of calm referred to as “rest and digest,” which is optimal at meal times. An otherwise engaged body won’t produce enough stomach acid to properly break down food, which may result in bloating and irritation. Take a proper lunch break, sit at the dining table without the TV on and put your phone away to allow your gut to concentrate on doing its thing.
START WITH SOMETHING BITTER
Ever wondered why a bitter green salad usually accompanies steak, or mint sauce is served with lamb? Bitter foots such as rocket, kale, chicory, lemon and watercress help kick start the digestive process by encouraging stomach acid production. This is especially important for meals that include fats and red meat, which compared to other foods, take longer to break down. Include raw and bitter foods with a lemon or vinegary dressing to start your meal and help your gut prepare for optimal digestion.
AVOID DRINKING WITH MEALS
It’s important for the stomach to be very acidic when digesting food, but drinking lots of liquid between mouthfuls can lower the concentration of acid, reducing the rate at which the gut digests. It’s recommended to drink 20 to 30 minutes before or after a meal to aid efficient digestion and prevent bloating. If you do like to drink with your food, stick to smaller sips rather than large gulps.
LOOK OUT FOR PATTERNS
If you tend to feel bloated after most meals, take note of what might be causing it. Some common culprits can be gluten or wheat, dairy, sugar, or fat-heavy foods such as red meat and fried foods. Compare how you feel when you don’t eat these items to get an idea of triggers or possible intolerances. Speak to a health professional for tailored advice and support on how to improve your symptoms with functional testing available for further insight.

Q&A Beauty
Look the best version of you with our expert advice
KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON
Q – I’m trying to plan our morning prep and have no idea how long I should give for hair and make-up. How long would you recommend, and do you have any other prep tips?
To make sure you have enough time to get ready without feeling rushed, it’s best to allow at least one to two hours depending on the complexity and desired look. This will allow for any unexpected issues or touch-ups that may come up. Other tips include:
•Communicate with your hair and make-up team to make sure everyone’s on the same page and that they have all the necessary tools and products
•Make a realistic schedule and stick to it as best as possible
•Try to stay calm and relaxed
•Plan for things taking longer than expected
•Do a test run beforehand to give you a good idea of how much time you’ll need on the big day
•Make sure you have a comfortable and well-lit area for the application
It’s always good to give yourself more time than you think you’ll need because after all, it’s always better to be ready early than to be rushed. Nawar Raichura | Nawar Raichura Make-up Artist UK | https://makeupartistuk.com
MAKE IT LAST
Q – I can’t wait to have my make-up professionally applied on our big day and I want it to look perfect throughout. Will it have the staying power and what are my options?
Having your make-up applied by a professional will mean that it lasts for as long as possible. Your make-up artist will tailor your look to work with all weather conditions too so you can rest assured that you’ll look amazing throughout.
You can also opt for airbrush make-up, which can last for up to 15 hours. This is lightly sprayed onto the face and sets on contact. A trial’s important to check it works for your skin. It’s a great option to have airbrush make-up if you don’t like to wear too much – it’s flawless and makes your look a seamless one.
Skincare prep also plays a huge part. If the skin’s prepped well, everything else will sit beautifully and will last.
My top tip for ultra-longevity, is always using a setting spray before the foundation as well as at the end of the application. I don’t go anywhere without my Charlotte Tilbury Setting Spray.
Another option is to book your make-up artist to stay after the ceremony so they’re on hand to keep you looking fresh from day to night. I offer this luxury service and it’s one that’s being used more and more. If you can’t have red carpet treatment on your wedding day, when can you?

LUSCIOUS LOCKS
Q – My hair’s not in the best condition at the moment. Do you have any suggestions of great products and daily regimes to get that silky-smooth shine back?
The team at our salon were becoming pretty fed up with shampoo making hair squeaky clean and leaving it wispy with flyaways. This isn’t a flattering look, and since transitioning to Hairstory’s New Wash, we much prefer to use creams to air-dry our cuts, as it helps define all the subtle layers and shapes that are a signature part of our work.
By using New Wash in and out of the salon, you can have clean hair with no need for excess styling products. Unlike shampoo, New Wash is detergent free, meaning it doesn’t strip the hair in any way at all. It preserves colour and the hair’s natural condition and movement. Not only that, but it also works on all hair types and it’s super gentle on a sensitive scalp.

SPRING BLOOMS
I’m trying to decide what flowers to choose for my bouquet and would love something seasonal. What would you suggest for a gorgeous spring look?
Spring brides are the luckiest, as it’s such a glorious season. There are so many gorgeous flowers at this time of the year that you can’t go wrong –you’re spoilt for choice.
As spring gets underway, there are tulips, daffodils, narcissus, iris and lily of the valley. Then country roses, snapdragon, lilac, delphinium, freesia, gardenia, cornflower and wild poppies appear before peonies, hydrangeas, sweet peas, dahlias and ranunculi take centrestage.
It’s good to start with deciding on a colour for your bouquet. Most brides will go for an all-white bouquet or romantic pastel shades, but it’s an opportunity to bring in fresh pops of colour too. Tulips come in many lovely shades and there are lots of varieties, each with a different style and feel. Daffodils and narcissus are not often used in bridal bouquets but
A LONDON ICON
We’d like to provide the transport to take our guests from A to B. What would a classic London bus bring to our day?
This is not just any old London bus, this bus is traditional, iconic and sleek! Full of heritage and history, it’ll add that timeless impression desired on any wedding day.
We understand the struggles that come with arranging transport for your day and that’s why choosing a London bus is the right choice! Seating up to 72 people, transporting your guests has never been easier! No need to co-ordinate multiple vehicles, you can fit them all in one and create the party atmosphere the minute you leave your ceremony. If you and your guests travel together, you can enjoy a glass of fizz on the journey and arrive at your destination fully relaxed, having no hassle or worry about congestion or parking restrictions at the venue. Not only that, but they also create an iconic London-themed backdrop for your cherished photos.
Charlie Butler | Wedding Buses | http://weddingbuses.co.uk
if you want a pop of white or yellow they’re perfect.
Irises are not only purple. A white iris will add a different texture to the bouquet. The little white buds of the lily of the valley are very sweet in an April bouquet. Country roses, tight and delicate or blowsy, are gorgeous. Snap dragons, lilac and delphiniums give a lovely English country garden feel. Freesias have a lovely scent and silhouette. Gardenia is perfect for an all-white arrangement and the scent is heavenly. Cornflowers aren’t often found but they’re beautiful in a wildflower bouquet as are wild poppies, which come in many shades.
In late spring and early summer, hydrangea, peonies, sweet peas, dahlias and ranunculi embody the bountifulness of nature. And it’s always nice to incorporate delicate daisies, camomile, astilbe, astrantia and oxypetalum at any time of the year.

SETTING THE SCENE
We’re just starting our venue search and can’t decide what we’re looking for. What are your top tips to help us find the perfect setting?
It’s no secret that many of the most popular venues tend to get booked years in advance, so viewing your favourites as soon as possible is vital. Even if you’re looking to get married sooner rather than later, it’s still worth calling your favourite venue about their availability. Sudden cancellations do happen, and you might be in luck. And if you’re considering a mid-week or even winter wedding, there’s every chance you can bag a date much sooner than you would for a peakseason wedding.
When you visit your shortlisted venues, be sure to check out the range of wedding spaces on offer as well as the grounds, guest rooms and restaurant areas. This all comes together to create the whole experience and that’s vital in making sure that you and your guests have the best day possible. West Lodge Park is a grand North London wedding venue with magnificent grounds, reception rooms and exquisite guest suites. Our expert staff and talented chefs work tirelessly to ensure that your celebration is one to remember. We have a range of room options, within our hotel or grounds, which can host up to 80 for your ceremony
BIG-DAY BLOCKBUSTER
We’d love our day captured on video but we’re not sure where to start. What parts of the day would you suggest we capture, can we choose our own music, do you blend into the background? Help!
When planning to have your day filmed, it’s essential to make sure that all the key moments of the day are captured. This includes the ceremony and speeches, as well as any other important moments that you want to remember. Capturing audio of the vows and speeches and maybe even guest video messages are also an important aspect to consider with video, as it can bring back the emotions and ambience of the day when you watch the video again.
In addition to capturing the ceremony, it’s a good idea to include footage of the pre-wedding prep. This can be a special moment for you and your partner as you see what each other were doing on the morning of your special day. Music is also a crucial component. It’s important to discuss with your videographer whether they have a database of licensed tracks or if you can choose your own. I’d recommended to choose music that reflect your personalities, or let your videographer choose tracks based on the overall feel of the day. The chosen music will set the tone and pace of the video, which can make a big difference in how it’s perceived by the viewer.
A key aspect of creating a meaningful video is choosing a videographer who can blend seamlessly into the background. A good pro should be able to capture candid moments without getting in the way or drawing attention to themselves. I’ve been referred to as a video ninja in the past because my couples say they don’t remember noticing me on the day, but when they receive their films, everything is there!

PARTY IN STYLE
We want our wedding to be one huge celebration from start to finish. What entertainment would you suggest for each element of the day to keep the party vibe going?
Firstly, I’d recommend finding a supplier who can supply the entertainment for all parts of your day. That way, it helps to take the stress out of managing multiple suppliers and you can relax and enjoy it all! The options are endless but I’d suggest a brass section to play at the entrance to the ceremony. They could play traditional jazz or contemporary classics. We also have numerous options that could play during the ceremony, such as a soloist or ensemble. A saxophonist goes down well during your drinks reception and why not opt for a pianist during your wedding breakfast? Your evening party would then come to life with anything from a DJ set to a 12-piece party band to fill the dancefloor until your day comes to an end. We work with our couples to make sure we get every element of the entertainment exactly as they want it and we believe that it’s this attention to detail and our versatility on the night that sets us aside from other bands.
With Sway you get our years of experience. We’re used to taking charge of the entertainment, getting your guests up on the dancefloor and helping them to have a great time so you can concentrate on other things. If you get the right band there’s so much less that you have to worry about on the night.

Styling advice for the groom-to-be
Choosing a wedding dress is only part of the story when it comes to your big-day styling. To achieve a coordinated look, it’s important to think about what the groom-to-be and groomsmen will be wearing too. What you choose will ultimately come down to the style of wedding that you’re planning, the location and, of course, the time of year. To help you create the perfect look, the experts at Suit Direct (www.suitdirect.co.uk) have shared their styling advice.
HOW SHOULD A SUIT FIT?
Whichever style you go for can make or break your look. An ill-fitting suit, sagging shoulders, or a bunched-up jacket instantly cheapens your look – so how can you tell if a suit fits correctly?
Shoulders – a perfect fit will see your suit jacket lie flat on your shoulders and not be too bunched up or hanging off at the edges. A good benchmark is being able to relax your shoulders easily and comfortably.
Jacket – a suit jacket should close without strain and not cause creases, bunching, or sag forward when buttoned up. Equally, it should drape smartly when open and not droop down at the sides. You should be able to slide your thumb between the button of the jacket and your stomach without it feeling too tight or loose. In terms of length, the bottom of the jacket should end where your thumb knuckle is, and you should leave the bottom button undone to allow more freedom of movement.
Arms – the sleeves of a suit should be snug but not tight and show around 1cm of the shirt’s cuff – perfect if you want to show off cufflinks.
Trousers – the trousers of your suit should fit comfortably around the waist without falling away from your hips. They should just graze the top of your shoes or even leave a small gap. Trousers that are too long will bunch up and spill over your shoe – so make sure you know your leg measurements.
HOW TO MEASURE A SUIT
Measuring for a suit can take a little bit of effort, but it’s worthwhile to ensure you look sleek and sophisticated on the day. Size up if you’re looking for a skinny-fit jacket and trousers, and don’t rely on old measurements – you’d be surprised how quickly they can change.
Measure and note down the most prominent part of your chest, the narrowest part of your
waist and from the top seam of your inside leg to the trouser hem. Then, slip on a jacket and measure from your shoulder to your shirt’s cuff. Men with larger waistlines should take this measurement where they would naturally wear their trousers – this will ensure a plus-sized gentleman can still get a comfortable fit.
HOW TO MIX AND MATCH SUITS?
When it comes to mixing and matching, the main thing to note is the colour of each suiting element; create a combination that works in harmony, complements each piece and doesn’t clash too much. Pair a coloured jacket with dark trousers or chinos for the perfect smart-casual look, or pair a classic tailored men’s suit jacket with a mismatched pair of coloured trousers. Whether you’re after a formal look or a creative combo – the options are endless. The suit has evolved, and it’s now acceptable to wear tailoring your way.

AFFAIR A grand
Louise Prance experienced the ultimate luxury combined with traditional Greek appeal at Rhodes-based Ixian Grand & All Suites
Approaching Rhodes by air, you’d be forgiven for missing a bird’s-eye view of the Ixian Grand & All Suites thanks to the beauty of Greece’s largest island, but for the eagle-eyed travellers you can spot the hotel due to its inimitable layout and luxurious beachfront private pool suites nestled luxuriously on the beach of Ixia Bay, just metres away from the sea.
Ixian Grand & All Suites is only 7km away from Rhodes town and the Medieval City of Rhodes, as well as being a mere 10-minute drive from Filerimos, one of the three ancient cities of Rhodes.
Overlooking the Ixia Bay and Aegean Sea, this hotel has the beauty of being adult-only, so is the ideal destination for a honeymoon offering total relaxation.
LUXE APPEAL
With 124 deluxe guestrooms with garden or sea view, the garden complex offers accommodation in 122 spacious and comfortable guestrooms, while the suites area is comprised of five buildings with 102 rooms and suites.
While all rooms offer a level of luxury only befitting a resort of this calibre, the aforementioned beachfront private pool suites are without doubt the way to go if you’re looking for a once-ina-lifetime experience, and I can attest you will wake up every morning to pinch-me-moments looking out over your private infinity pool to the crystal clear Aegean sea that stretches as far as
the eye can see. Looking for further wow factor? Enjoy a romantic soak in the bath and appreciate the floor-to-ceiling windows while watching the sun set over the ocean.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Talking romance, no honeymoon is complete without a romantic meal or five, and the Ixian Grand & All Suites has romantic eateries down to a fine art. Vis-à-Vis, the hotel’s main buffet restaurant, focuses mostly on the Mediterranean diet and the Greek cuisine, but also international food.
Milonges, is an open-air restaurant offers traditional Greek cuisine and is located by the main swimming pool, serving lunch and dinner, while Muza Htista offers Japanese and Peruvian cultures. My personal favourite was the Alazonia Suites Restaurant – while only available to those staying in suites, this stylish restaurant serves breakfast and dinner, with outdoor or indoor seating options.
Evenings were spent embracing the laidback Greek culture and indulging in a tipple or three at Truman’s Lobby Bar, which has a stunning terrace with views to the gardens, pools and the sea.
AND RELAX…
If you’re able to drag yourself away from the room, the pools and the idyllic scenery, then it’s almost a perquisite to try out the hotel’s spa, and Ixian Grand & All Suites offers one of the most tranquil I’ve had the pleasure of attending.
Offering massages, facials and beauty therapies, the spa also has an indoor pool and a Turkish bath, as well as a complimentary gym with a fitness instructor offering various daily classes – if you’re so inclined. I opted for a more relaxing pastime instead, and indulged in a full body
94
massage. An hour of total bliss, I emerged feeling even more relaxed, if that’s at all possible.
SIGHT SEEING
While it may be unimaginable why you’d want to leave the hotel’s complex, it would be remiss to visit a Greek island and not explore the locality and embrace the culture. We opted for a day trip to the Medieval Rhodes Old Town.
With walls four kilometres long, the Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and dates back more than 2000 years. With a breathtaking history, the site features Medieval buildings, mosques, traditional fountains, oriental motifs, Byzantine and Gothic churches, shops, a market and restaurants aplenty.
We whiled away hours mooching inbetween the castle walls, picking up classic Greek souvenirs before sampling traditional Greek food – and of course wine. What could be better than enjoying a sun-drenched glass of white while looking at white-washed buildings before heading back for sundowners at the hotel?
No honeymoon would be complete without getting out on the water, and activities abound in Rhodes. From SUP fun, to romantic boat rides, to kayak tours. Tick the aqua box and your romantic Greek getaway would be really complete.

HONEYMOON REVIEW 95
A SPA DAY Santa needs
Located on the banks of the picture-perfect River Thames in Surrey, just 10 minutes from Windsor, The
on Thames is a modern fourstar hotel with an award-winning spa offering.
Now, I’ve been lucky enough to stay at The Runnymede once before, although the warm summer’s day certainly wasn’t comparable to the wintry, grey November day I found myself in when visiting a second time. I wondered; did it alter my view having been before? Could I honestly find enough about it to tell all my lovely readers about an authentic experience – well, read on, because you’ll hear why it was second time’s a charm for me!
As previously mentioned, the ominous grey skies of this winter’s day (and the M25 car park), hadn’t set me up for the most relaxed of mindsets to start my night away at The Runnymede. Arriving at the hotel, I was a tad deflated to say the least. However, no sooner had I trudged my way through the hotel’s revolving front doors was I warmed to the bones with a cosy ambience exuding from the lounge and lobby area. A true winter-warmer, there was a huge log fire keeping everyone toasty, Christmas trees and decorations glistening in abundance, low lighting complementing the hum of people relaxing and chatting away – I was instantly enthralled.
The modern aesthetic of the hotel has been sympathetically considered so that style never surpasses comfort. The large sofas and seating areas are all strategically placed to provide snug yet social spaces to catch up with loved ones or enjoy as a romantic twosome. Attentive waiters attend to your needs immediately; it wasn’t long before I was relaxing on a plush sofa next to the log fire, looking out at the river – still picturesque even in the winter – with a cocktail in hand. My morning was forgotten, a distant memory, although I think the cocktail helped with that too!
Our spacious River View suite was more than enough for two people on a much-needed night away. Armchairs and a table perfectly poised to watch the river run by, an enormous bed offered a perfect night’s sleep, and the bathroom was a suite in itself: two sinks and mirrors, walk-in shower and bath – it was like your very own beauty parlour! I could have easily whiled away an hour or two in our suite, but I swiftly changed into my robe, grabbed my book and headed down to the spa.
The spa is accessible from the main hotel, with its own entrance and reception area it feels like a luxurious members-only retreat. Whether you want to get the endorphins going in the fitness centre – which boasts river views – or while away the time in the swimming pool or Jacuzzi it’s got something for everyone. There are also adult-only times for the facilities which is perfect for minimooners.
After reading a few chapters in my book while enjoying a fruit
tea in the spa’s lounge area, I was greeted by a therapist to take me for my complimentary treatment an ESPA Back, Neck & Shoulder Massage.
Now, I’m a bit of a tough nut to crack, not just because I’m knotted up like a coil, but I also find it hard to practice mindfulness and enjoy the experience. I’m also out of my comfort-zone sat there in only a towel – I even hide in the bathroom at home! My therapist Claire was amazing, putting me at ease, she was incredibly knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions I had; it speaks volumes that I was able to nearly doze off! I also felt the knots in my back disperse for the first time, I knew I’d had a thoroughly wonderful and beneficial massage. The Runnymede is perfect for a spot of pre- or post-wedding pampering, treatments include manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing and a variety of massages as well as half-day and full-day spa experiences.
When staying in hotels, I’m always keen to book into the restaurants rather than venture out. Both dinner and breakfast were served in Leftbank, the hotel’s renowned buffet restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the river. At night, the dark winter evening was interspersed with intimate lighting, and the hotel’s festive décor really came in to its own with an extra splattering of fairylights and shimmering tones. The food was insatiable, for even the most discerning of critic who may shy away from the word ‘buffet’ but this is not an average offering!
With all kinds of culinary delights from delicious antipasti boards and salads to a variety of meat and fish options there’s something for everyone for starters, mains and desserts. As it was a Sunday we delved in to a hearty roast dinner (which was also on offer) and, not that I really had room for dessert but they certainly went down a treat – I tried three of the delicacies on offer! The open kitchen, wood-fired oven and rotisserie also provide a visual extravaganza too, cooking right before your eyes. Breakfast the next day didn’t disappoint either. Due to the light flooding in, the Leftbank feels bright and airy in the mornings, energising you for the day ahead. Again, there was possibly too much choice of fare from continental to hot cooked options, sweet and savoury, healthy fruits and muesli. There was not one fault in the dining experience on offer here.
After a final coffee, gazing at the river, we were thinking about our day ahead in Windsor complete with a visit to the castle to see the Christmas decorations! Alas, it was time to say goodbye. I couldn’t quite believe the whirlwind 24-hours I had here and that was all down to the wonderful experience The Runnymede had given me. From the surroundings to the staff, the wellbeing ethos to the mouth-watering food, I was looked after, rejuvenated and ready for the world again. Thank you!
