‘Tis the season to sparkle C
hristmas is nearly here and we couldn’t be more excited! Like everyone, we’re hoping everything stays on track so that we can all enjoy plenty of the customary festive cheer with family and friends that we’re used to. One thing the last 18 months has hopefully taught us is to not take things for granted, so I for one am determined not to sweat the small stuff, embrace the moment and, if I can’t get hold of my favourite brand of chutney, no worries – time to try something new! Although we don’t like to count our chickens (or should I say turkeys) before they hatch, since restrictions eased, the floodgates have opened and 2022 looks set to be one of the busiest years for weddings in decades! With the Christmas and New Year proposal season about to add to the surge, we’re looking forward to bringing you lots of lovely local weddings to inspire and excite you in the months ahead. The ripple effects of the pandemic will be felt for some time to come and will continue to influence wedding trends moving forward. Demand for weekday, outdoor and intimate weddings is likely to continue, along with greener more sustainable options for the big day. Many of the important things about getting married have been brought into sharper focus too, like the vows and individual, special details to add that extra personal touch. Couples are looking closer to home for their suppliers bringing extra provenance and local flavour to their celebration and with a wealth of talent in the region, there’s plenty to choose from. This issue, from page 79 we look at what’s likely to be topping the menu for weddings in the year ahead. Don’t miss the winter wedding shoot on page 49 either for a host of styling ideas from a team of inspirational local wedding experts. Packed with all the usual bridal fashion, beauty tips, honeymoons and more, we can’t wait to hear all about your wonderful weddings! Don’t forget to get in touch after your big day for the chance to share the joy with our readers. Sustainability is a major concern around the globe, influencing people’s choices in all walks of life, including their weddings. Newlyweds-to-be are increasingly looking to lower the carbon footprint of their big day by incorporating reusable and recyclable, locally sourced and planet-friendly products. High on green credentials doesn’t have to mean low on style though – far from it and Norfolk-based Posh Plants is testament to that. Specialists in living trees, topiary and plants to decorate wedding venues of all kinds, you can hire anything from statuesque bay trees to cool olive trees and more. Bring the outdoors in and create a wow-factor backdrop that’s eco-friendly and stunning too. Owner Sue Huckle says, “Posh Plant’s trees are around 30 to 40 years old (probably older than many of the brides!) and after going out to work at a wedding they come back home to the nursery, where they’re mollycoddled and looked after by me. So, nothing is thrown away or wasted, they absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen, what’s more green is a really cool colour for weddings: timeless, elegant and sophisticated!” To find out more visit www.poshplants.com Your East Anglian Wedding has teamed up with Posh Plants to run an exclusive reader offer of 10% off the hire cost of any of their trees or plants booked during December 2021 and January 2022, simply by quoting the magazine on enquiry.

Cosy up at this beautiful Victorian manor house. Perfect for a winter wedding, the exclusive-use, Norfolk venue oozes character and style. With tall chimneys, Dutch gables and ornate, detailed red brickwork, there’s a wealth of standout features inside and out. Decorated in subtle Farrow and Ball colours, the interiors are adorned with cornicing, dado and picture rails, gorgeous light fittings and stained glass windows, creating a wonderfully romantic and inviting atmosphere. Set in four-and-a-half acres of grounds, there’s a vast garden at the back with mature trees and a small woodland area, open parkland beyond, and a large patio too. Your very own home away from home, you and your guests won’t need to leave the house if you don’t want to.
There are working fireplaces in the study and kitchen and, as it’s mainly a dry-hire venue, you can decorate it how you like. Think garlands draped around the bannisters of the sweeping staircase or a Christmas tree in the main entrance. Tie the knot in the south-facing drawing room; light and bright with two sets of bay windows, chandeliers and a marble fireplace, it can host up to 100 ceremony guests and 80 for the wedding breakfast. For more intimate ‘I dos’ the cosy study is ideal. When the weather’s fine you can exchange vows outside in the gardens, sign the register in the study and celebrate afterwards with a marquee or tipi reception for up to 200 loved ones and invite more for the evening celebration.

matchmaking friend helped bring Bethany and Sam together. “During a girls night in with Kelly, I told her that I’d love to start dating again after being single for about three years. She mentioned Sam and I messaged him there and then, even though it was 2am! He’d just got home from working offshore and was heading off to Ibiza at the time,” reveals Bethany. She didn’t think anything more about it until up popped a friend request a few days later. “We started chatting and that was that,” she adds. Sam proposed in December 2018 following a lightbulb moment while working away from home for 11 weeks. “One
day it just suddenly hit me that I wanted to propose. I always knew that Bethany was the one, but I’d never thought about marriage until that moment,” he recalls. With six weeks left before returning home, he set to work on organising how and where to pop the question. He had the whole moment mapped out in his head and was planning to do it during a trip to Iceland in December, on a romantic tour by private jeep to see the Northern Lights. A storm put pay to that though as the tour was cancelled so he ended up asking her in bed, during an ad break while watching Killer Women with Piers Morgan! Read on for Bethany’s account of their big day… 29

Ellie and James’ big day was a chilled, fun celebration Images courtesy of Ella Nurse Photography

rowing up in the same town, Ellie and James already knew of each other but it wasn’t until Ellie posted a Game of Thrones photo up online that they actually started talking and the spark was lit. “As we were chatting we realised we had both moved back to Norfolk after being away at university so we went for a drink that night and got on so well it just went from there,” Ellie reveals.
POPPING THE QUESTION James proposed to Ellie in New York on New Years Day. She’d taken him there to celebrate his 30th birthday on the 2nd January and he slipped the proposal in first. “It was amazing but very sneaky because he’d managed to keep it from me and had even asked my father’s permission on Christmas Day. He popped the question in front of the huge Christmas tree outside the Rockefeller Centre. He couldn’t have picked a better spot, it was beautiful and I had absolutely no idea it was going to happen.”
THE TIME AND THE PLACE They set the wedding date for 21st August 2021 at The Georgian Townhouse in Norwich. Ellie says, “We’d seen photos of a wedding at the venue and we really liked the look of the place. Once we went there in person and tried the food, we knew it was the one and we booked it instantly.”
LOOKING THE PART When it came to finding her dream dress Ellie ended up falling for the unexpected, a beautiful Maggie Sottero princess gown, which she wore with a veil and bejewelled heels. “It was actually one that Vicki from Pure Brides suggested and it was the complete opposite of what I thought I wanted but somehow, she just knew. As soon as I tried it on I also realised it was the one and I particularly loved the antique ivory colour which really suited me. Vicki made me feel so relaxed that I was able to enjoy the whole experience!” The groom and all his party wore matching blue suits with pink ties and pocket squares to complement the bridesmaids’ dresses. The buttonholes were mini versions of the bouquets and their two Siberian huskies looked the part in their own wedding finery. “Ghost, our male dog, wore the same style suit jacket as the groom and groomsmen, which was cleverly adapted by James’ mum, while our female husky Inca had a dress made from ivory tulle.”
THE ‘I DOS’ Although the nerves kicked in a little on the wedding morning James barely had time to notice as he had his hands full with the dogs and overseeing proceedings in the main building, while Ellie was looking after their baby boy Atlas. “I was in the separate apartments and although I was very nervous, I was excited too. The ceremony was beautiful and it meant the world to us having everyone there as we had to rearrange our original date due to the pandemic and it was such a relief for it to be going ahead.” Ellie adds, “We had live music, which was really important to us to set the tone of the day and when I heard Simon singing it actually made me relax before walking up the aisle,” recalls Ellie.
THE PERSONAL TOUCHES The wedding flowers included O’Hara roses, pampas grass and bunny tails, trailing pink ribbons and a blend of nude, pink and pale peachy tones with dried eucalyptus to add extra depth of colour. James’ mum made tissue paper roses to scatter on the tables, all hand-dyed to reflect the colour scheme. As James is an artist, he did all the signage to tie everything in with the big-day theme. He also designed the table names, all places in New York that they’d visited with ‘Top of the Rock’ for the head table in a nod to their engagement. They also made the place names themselves using wax seals and a matching font. “We went for scratchcards in personalised envelopes as favours because we loved the idea of someone possibly winning and we wanted something people could talk about and have a bit 35

of fun with at the tables,” explains Ellie. Their showstopping, hexagonal cake featured a hand-painted marble effect and gold detail, with a delicious chocolate layer, white chocolate and raspberry, topped with a vegan, lemon tier. Ellie raves, “Emma our cakemaker really stood out to us with her incredible detailing. She even included a little hand-drawn image of the cake on an easel next to it.” As big foodie fans the catering was another important highlight of the day. Ellie says, “We had a choice of food for the wedding breakfast so there was something for everyone to enjoy and the venue supplied fish and chips in the evening which were delicious and really added to the laidback, fun feeling we wanted.”
REAL WEDDINGS
TIME TO CELEBRATE The nearby Plantation Garden was a focal point of the wedding, providing a wealth of picture-perfect backdrops. “We took everyone over there as it was absolutely stunning and we managed to get a group shot of us all together and then our guests were able to go off and explore while we had our couple photos done,” explains Ellie. There were garden games and pick and mix sweets and an instant camera with the guest book for family and friends to capture the fun and leave a lasting memory of the day. Later in the evening they had sparklers outside and everyone hit the dancefloor to party the night away.

usan and David met in Cambridge and had their first date at The Bull Inn at Barton Mills. She fell for his gentlemanly ways and sense of humour and the rest, as they say, is history. He proposed with a gorgeous ring on Christmas morning 2019 before anyone else was up. “It was a beautiful surprise,” recalls Susan. “He had hidden the box under the bed and, not thinking that it was an engagement ring, when I put it on and he told me it was on the wrong finger, I suddenly realised what was happening.” She said ‘yes’, of course, and they tied the knot on 28th August, 2021 at The Boathouse overlooking Ormesby Broad in Norfolk. Set by the water’s edge, it provided the perfect romantic backdrop for their blended family wedding. Read on for Susan’s account of their big day… 41
The Boathouse was the perfect choice for us as it’s in a beautiful natural setting by the Ormesby Broad. We’d eaten there before, so we knew the food and service were good and the lovely garden was another attraction.
As a blended family of seven, this was the theme for our wedding and the decorations and personal touches, from the flowers to the meal choices, were designed to reflect this
“After the official part, listening to each other’s personal vows for the first time was an unforgettable moment.” – Susan
I arrived by boat with my bridal party for the ceremony, which added to the excitement.
My eldest son Nicholas walked me down the aisle and gave me away. We both felt very joyous that our children played a part in the ceremony and celebrations. 42
My Rhetta dress was covered with frosted lace applique and had a Chantilly lace bodice, crepe skirt and cut-away back. I had my children’s and stepchildren’s names embroidered along the edge of the scalloped train and mine and David’s initials on the lace veil. My bouquet of roses and orchids reflected our combined Singaporean and British cultures.
“The staff at Dreams Bridal were outstanding and Jenny the seamstress went out of her way to do the embroidery and grant all my wishes.”
REAL WEDDINGS
David and his groomsmen wore classic morning suits with blue ties to match the bridesmaids’ dresses and David had a patterned waistcoat to stand out from the rest.
We gave our guests ‘Family’, ‘Love’ and ‘Home’ hanging decorations, sugared almonds and vintage key holders as favours.
“The centrepieces were Baroque-style glass vases filled with pastel-coloured flowers with dried rose petals scattered on the tables and candles with LED lights.”
Our caramel cake had a cream filling and was decorated with sugar orchids.
The heart-shaped floral backdrop set off our sweetheart table beautifully. 43
We had wedding game cards on the tables, I sang L-O-V-E’ by Natalie Cole to David, which our children mimed along to, and my son Christopher presented a slide show, which was a surprise for David and included footage of him in his younger days.
“Our guests really enjoyed the entertainment as it was all about family and blending together in love.”

reams can come true! Take a dusting of sparkle a healthy dash of imagination and flair, and hey presto – wedding wonderland. It’s not quite as easy as waving a wand though – there’s a good measure of talent involved too! Wedding hair stylist Hayley Keenes got together a group of local creatives to realise her vision at Norfolk wedding venue Park Farm Hotel & Leisure. She came up with the ‘Happily Ever After’ theme and together they worked their magic. “I’m a massive fan of winter and whimsical fairytales, so my inspiration came from famous princesses and the talented team helped bring the idea to life,” she explains. The aim was to provide a different take on the everyday, combining soft, romantic colours with a hint of fantasy coming through.

DRESS SHOPPING
Finding THE ONE The dress shopping made easy
Y
ou said ‘yes’, the ring’s on your finger, so what’s next? The dress, of course! For many brides-to-be it’s one of the most exciting parts of the wedding journey and it’s tempting to rush out to the shops straight away and start trying on gorgeous gowns. After all, it’s not every day you get the chance, right? Not wanting to sound like a killjoy, but taking time to do your homework first can pay dividends and avoid costly mistakes. There are many factors to take into account to make sure your dress is not only the right fit for you, but also the whole style and feel of your day. The time of year, type of ceremony and the venue are all key considerations, as well as the kind of entertainment you’re planning. If outdoor fun and games or a bouncy castle are on your big-day agenda, a voluminous ball gown may not be the most practical choice.
HANDY HINTS ♥ Decide when and where you want to get married before setting your heart on the kind of dress you want. The type of venue you choose, period or modern, city-chic hotel or rustic barn, can be a major influence if you’re looking to create a coordinated look. Think about the time of year too for colours to reflect the season, suitable fabrics for hot or cold weather, sleeves or no sleeves. ♥ Research online before hitting the shops to narrow down the options and avoid being overwhelmed. Create a moodboard of shapes and designs you like, the team at your chosen bridal boutique will love you for it as it’ll make their job a whole lot easier! ♥ Limit the number of people you take with you for your appointment, as too many opinions can be confusing. ♥ Keep an open mind; experienced bridal boutique staff are always happy to suggest a style. Even if it’s something you may never have even dreamed of before, have a try – you may be happily surprised! ♥ Aim to coincide your hair and make-up trial with your final appointment to get an idea of the overall look. ♥ Wear comfy neutral coloured underwear when trying on dresses and if you’re planning on walking down the aisle in killer heels, take them with you to get the full effect. ♥ Don’t worry if you don’t have that epiphany moment or shed a tear, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not the one! ♥ If a no-theme, no-rules, chilled celebration is your thing, that’s great too – find the dress you love and just do you! 67
FLATTERING FIT For brides with a pear-shaped figure it can be hard to find the perfect fit for your top and bottom half. Don’t despair, Sharon Higgs, owner of award-winning Just a Day Bridalwear in Ipswich, has some useful advice. She says, “The first thing I’d say is, don’t put yourself under pressure. The most important thing is to feel confident in your gown as it’s all about how you feel on the day. If you don’t necessarily embrace your curvy hips then maybe don’t choose something too close fitting around your bottom half, but if you love your curves and would feel great in a figure-hugging design, then why not? Nobody can say what you can or can’t wear! You’ll know when you put a dress on if you feel fabulous in it. For pear-shaped brides though it’s best to be get a size to fit comfortably around your hips and have other parts altered where needed. Don’t panic about this, it’s quite normal to have to have alterations done and it usually takes around ten to 12 weeks before the big day.” Visit www.justadaybridal.co.uk 68

DRESS SHOPPING
Body beautiful Knowing your body shape is a great place to start when thinking about your wedding dress. Your everyday wardrobe might already be screaming clues at you as it’ll be full of styles and shapes that you naturally gravitate towards. Have a look at other dresses you’ve worn to formal occasions or even to the office and see if they follow a general shape. If they do, this is a great guide to what silhouette of wedding dress to try on first. But the golden rules really are to keep an open mind and trust your bridal consultant.
Hourglass
If you’d describe your body as “curvy” and your bust and hip measurements are roughly equal, you most likely have a hourglass figure. Look for a corset back to really show of those curves, along with a beautiful sweetheart neckline to enhance the balance between bust and hips. If you’re not sure about a bold mermaid silhouette, a trumpet gown is a more subtle version and will look incredible on you!
Rectangle
You’re most likely sporting a rectangle figure if you have straight hips and a straight body line. Don’t be deceived, you can still have a rectangle shape whether you’re size 8 or 28. Think about adding some angles with a pretty belt or sash, a V-neck, or a bolero. Alternatively, if you’re looking for something completely different why not try a bridal two piece or suit, great for an ultra-stylish city wedding.
Pear
You’re likely to be boasting a pear or triangle body shape if you’d consider your hips and bottom to be wider than your shoulders and bust. V and U-shaped necklines are great for the pear-shaped bride as they bring the angles away from the hips. Styles with sleeves also work wonders to broaden the shoulders and bring balance.
Apple
Your body shape is likely to be described as apple if your shoulders, bust, waist and hips are fairly similar in measurement, with slightly narrower shoulders and hips. Avoid strapless gowns. Instead look out for modern styles with wider straps, which flatter the shoulders and offer plenty of support. Choose a neckline that will show off your bustline and draw attention upward.
Inverted triangle If you deem your shoulders to be the widest part of your body and you find your measurements narrow as you move down to your hips and waist, you can call your body shape an inverted triangle. A stunning dress with plenty of lace or detail will draw the eye away from any one area in particular. Opt for sleeves or wide straps to play down the shoulder area or give a daring sheath a try for a super-sleek look.

Your winter wedding woes sorted
We’re hoping to get plenty of outdoor photos at our winter wedding, weather permitting. Going in and out of the cold though makes my skin red and flushed and I’m worried this will show up in the photos. Do you have any tips that might help? Victoria says: Firstly, I’d advise you to talk to a dermatologist or seek help from a beauty therapist to assess the cause of the redness. It could be the skin condition rosacea which you can get help with from your doctor. Also try to figure out if there are any triggers like alcohol or spicy food that you can avoid on the morning or night before the wedding to help reduce the risk. Using the correct skincare regime is important too and never skip the sunscreen, even on winter days. Here are some of my top tips for a beautiful bridal glow: ♥ Don’t overwork the face, pat products in rather than rub them, which can make the skin redder. Try using a damp sponge to apply and help soothe the skin at the same time. ♥ Green primer is a must-have to cover redness . Start your make-up routine by applying it to the flushed areas you want to cover. The rule here is, a little goes a long way. Work in thin layers, remember you’re just trying to counteract the redness not channel your inner Hulk. For fair skin, opt for a pale mint green or a deeper shade for slightly darker complexions. Primark sells a fabulous green concealer, as does Urban Decay. ♥ Next find a buildable foundation to cover the concealer but not look like you’re masking something. You can add additional layers if you prefer more coverage. ♥ Apply concealer over the top, colour-matched to your skin tone to help hide anything that’s not been completely covered. I prefer to do it this way, as then you’re not wasting product if your foundation has already done most of the work for you. Don’t over blend though as you will undo all your hard work. Just smooth the outside edges of the concealer with a damp sponge. My favourites are NARS creamy concealer and Tarte Shape Tape. ♥ Next use a setting powder. I love Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder. It won’t change the colour of your base and it’s buttery soft. ♥ Go for a powder blusher instead of a cream one, just to avoid over working the area that you’ve spent time making flawless. Opt for a coral or peach tone instead of pinks and reds, or even a bronzer if you prefer. ♥ Finish with a hydrating setting spray, which can be reapplied during the day if you need cooling down. Victoria Bradfield | Make-up artist www.victoriabradfield.co.uk 72
I work outside a lot and my hands really suffer from chapping and split nails in the cold weather. What can I do to get them in tip-top condition for my wedding? Jo says: While working outside, it’s vital to wear a suitable pair of good-fitting gloves to protect your hands. Carry an emergency supply with you in your workbag to cater for the type of tasks you have to do and the season – lightweight ones for spring and heavier insulated ones for the winter. I’d also advise keeping some OPI Prospa Protective Hand Serum with you too. It’s packed with goodies including essential anti-oxidants and fatty acids to keep your hands well nourished. I’d also recommend TempleSpa’s From Strength to Strength Nail & Cuticle Treatment Serum from their Mini-Pedi-Cures set. Great for damage control, it helps to restore, strengthen and prevent brittle nails and soften cuticles. Their Palm Balm hand cream is another hero product; wonderfully nourishing it’s the perfect soother for hands suffering from the winter weather and frequent use of hand santiser. In the lead-up to the big day, it’s a good idea to book in with your local beauty therapist for a luxury manicure every couple of weeks to keep your hands softs and your nails looking their best for those all-important just-wed ring photos. THE OTHER LEADING LADY My dad sadly passed away three years ago and my mum will be walking me down the aisle. She hates being in the spotlight and is anxious about what to wear. What would you suggest that’s comfortable and easy to wear, but still glamorous and warm for our winter wedding? Sue says: If your mum usually wears casual clothes, I’d suggest this Couture Club three-piece trouser suit, shown in navy, but also available in lighter royal blue. It has a lined chiffon trouser and camisole with sequin detail on the front and a floaty coat with sequins on the sleeves, so it’s very glamorous and ideal for walking you down the aisle. A small fascinator would complement the outfit perfectly and if your mum’s not used to heels, she can wear comfy flats with the trousers instead. LIGHT AND SHADE
A new addition to the Lush range of perfumes, Shade offers a burst of warmth with comforting sandalwood. A fragrance with a conscience, each essential oil has its own story to tell including sandalwood from West Timor, which is extracted from protected and sustainable trees. It’s also made using a new source of olibanum oil from the Dayaxa region in Somaliland. It has full traceability down to the harvester level, with every step of the process being mapped on blockchain. In fact, Lush is working with its supplier to kickstart a project to train local women in small-scale olibanum oil distillation, a first in the community. Find it online at www.lush.com, where it’s priced at £25 for 30ml.
FEEL FLAWLESS
Speak to any wedding make-up artist and they’ll most likely tell you that primer is a must, which is why I wanted to share with you my latest discovery: Super Facialist Skin Perfecting Primer (£17). This little beauty creates a flawless-looking complexion using trusted skincare ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, and colour-correcting pigments. It cleverly blurs imperfections by counteracting the three most common concerns of redness, sallowness and dullness, while simultaneously working to bring back skin’s natural radiance. BACK TO ITS ROOTS
Molton Brown was born in the 1970s as a hair salon based in the heart of London’s shopping district on South Molton Street, which was frequented by the Rolling Stones and many other icons of the day. Creators Caroline Bernstein and her husband would hand mix all formulations in the basement, with conscious care for the environment at the forefront of the brand’s values even then. Now, on the brand’s 50th anniversary it has re-introduced hair care to its range. The collection contains four tailored collections, each with a botanical at the core of its formulation: balancing, volumising, hydrating and repairing. This approach means you can strategically build a healthy-hair routine into your big-day prep depending on the needs of your locks. Check out www.moltonbrown.co.uk

EDITOR LOVES
In my humble opinion Kristin Ess The One Signature Shampoo and The One Signature Conditioner are nothing short of miraculous! I won’t lie, my hair was in an embarrassing state when I decided to give these a go. I’d been swimming three days on the bounce – down water slides, through rapids, the works! My locks were a huge matted, straw-like mess. But with just one application the shampoo lathered like a dream and after leaving the conditioner in for the recommended three minutes, even wet my hair started to feel less knotty. I usually dread having to drag the brush through my hair after I’ve washed it, but in no time flat it was knot-free, smooth and ready to dry. Shiny, soft and looking their best, the state of my locks pre-Kristin Ess were a distant memory. This is definitely my new favourite hair routine and at £8 each they won’t break the bank. My advice? Head over to www.boots.com and pop them in your basket immediately!
NATURE’S HARVEST
When Estée Lauder created Youth-Dew bath oil in 1953, she revolutionised the fragrance industry and 75 years later, the brand is carrying on her legacy with the introduction of a new luxury fragrance collection. Each of the eight scents is inspired by nature’s most breathtaking moments such as the radiance of a sunset and the mystery of a moonlit flower. What’s more, Estée Lauder’s new ScentCapture Fragrance Extender technology is specially formulated to allow each perfume to last up to 12 hours after a single application – that should get you from vows to dancefloor no problem. The new Luxury Fragrance Collection (£130 100ml, £68 40ml) is available at Estée Lauder counters nationwide and at www.esteelauder.co.uk
THE EYES HAVE IT
READY OR KNOT
The Detangling Mist is the newest product in The Hair Boss’ award-winning range. The brand, founded by Lisa Shepherd, former British Hairdresser of the Year, simplifies hair care into a four-step routine, and this newbie fits tidily into part three. With life getting busier by the second, this is the quick, on-the-go answer to dry, unruly hair. Targeted to fix frizzy and damaged locks, it’s designed to smooth and strengthen, while protecting your hair and preventing breakage. Lisa says, “In between washes, The Detangling Mist will soften the hair, taming any unruly knots and re-adding the shine that it’s lost since the last wash.” Priced at £8.99, it’s available at https://thehairboss.co.uk
They say the eyes are the window to the soul, so they’re for sure a feature to make the most of on the big day. For those looking for longer lashes and full brows, The B Collection has launched its Lash & Brow Serum (£8.99). This all-natural, vegan, cruelty-free product nourishes and stimulates growth in these two key areas for eyes that’ll pop as you say “I do.” Use every night before bed following your usual skincare routine and wash off in the morning – super-easy. You can also use it during the day to set your brows in place. We love anything with a dual purpose! Find it at https://thebcollection.co.uk 75

CATERING
WHAT’S
The latest hot trends in wedding catering for the year ahead
T
he ever-shifting landscape in 2021 has fostered a whole host of new and emerging trends in the world of wedding catering, some born out of necessity and many led by a commitment to greener, more sustainable living. In the year ahead choices are likely to become even more varied and personalised, with locally produced, organic, vegan and vegetarian options high on couples’ wish lists to reflect their lives and loves. The provenance of the food served is high on the agenda, with newlyweds-to-be increasingly looking for regional dishes and treats in a nod to their family roots. Old favourites and comfort foods for a touch of childhood nostalgia continue to be popular too – think doughnut walls, gooey marshmallows roasted over a firepit or old-style school puddings, reinvented with a contemporary modern edge. Burgers, bacon sarnies or fish and chips served straight from the van to keep the late-night munchies at bay, are another hit, especially for chilled, outdoor weddings. The options are as big as your imagination and budget allow. Pea and mint puree, feta, popped peas and smoked duck, polenta, orange chutney and marjoram.
Beetroot and horseradish gazpacho with hung yoghurt, nasturtium, heritage radish, pickled radish and amaranth.
The feelgood factor
Norfolk-based Oystercatcher Catering offers bespoke wedding menus for foodie fans and prides itself on its ethos of local, seasonal catering with a conscience. Run by husband and wife team Jackson, head chef, and Fiona, front of house, being kind to the planet is integral to their business. Their list of eco credentials includes running their prep kitchen on 100 per cent renewable energy, sourcing local produce as well as growing their own and only using sustainably sourced seafood and low-impact meats. What’s more, their endeavours in championing sustainability recently earned them a Corporate Social Responsibility Award. “We enjoy building personal relationships with our couples as we plan their special meal together, tweaking things until they’re just right. By the time the big day comes around, it often feels like we’re feeding friends, rather than customers, ” explains Fiona. While planning menus with their 2022 couples, she’s noticed a number of trends emerging. She says: ♥ People have missed connecting with family and friends during the pandemic, so looking forward to brighter times ahead many are opting for sharing-style meals for their wedding guests. Great as an ice-breaker as people pass bowls of food around and start chatting. ♥ With growing concern about climate change, local and seasonal sourcing is increasingly important and many couples are trying to reduce the carbon footprint of their big day as much as possible. ♥ In line with this, we’re noticing more couples appear to be less focused on meat feasts for their weddings and instead are increasingly interested in celebrating the veggie sides. Not only that, but the tables can be fully personalised to couple’s individual tastes and specifications, plus they look incredibly inviting too!” Visit www.honeyshedbakery.co.uk
Sharing is caring
After all the restrictions of the past 18 months, mixing and mingling is a high priority for many newlyweds-to-be. “Sharing platters are becoming a huge trend especially for marquee weddings as couples want their guests to get together and be social,” says Emma of North Norfolk’s Bayfield Catering, www.bayfieldcatering.co.uk Top picks for the platters are seafood and mixed barbecue meats all very local and fresh including fish from their nearby smokehouse and home-bred meat from the butcher. Dessert-wise it’s tempting trios al the way. “Our customers love them!” she adds.

Whatever trends may come and go, the sit-down wedding breakfast remains a enduring favourite. Traditional, certainly doesn’t mean boring though, far from it! There’s a multitude of ways to add your personal touch and create a magical atmosphere for a dining experience to remember. Imaginative tablescaping and layouts are becoming ever more creative with fabulous centrepieces and decorative details to reflect the season, wedding theme and colour scheme. As well as the evergreen three-course meal, there’s a range of alternatives from tasting menus, tailored to your personal likes, to contemporary twists on old favourites like toad-in-the-hole, pie and mash or fish and chips. Vegan, vegetarian and special dietary needs are also catered for in tasty and imaginative ways, rather than a sorry afterthought. Be inspired by the time of the year when choosing your menu. Your caterer will be able to advise on what’s in season.
Cheers to that!
Gone are the days of the basic bar for your big day, nowadays there’s a wealth of options to suit the style and theme of your celebration. We’re talking drinks stations, converted horsebox mobile bars and more. Tempting tipples are in the limelight, adding extra style and fun throughout the day, from the post-vows drinks reception and beyond. Sassy Pimm’s and ‘pimp your prosecco’ stations, tempting cocktails and mocktails with all the trimmings, great for summer weddings, are all vying with the customary glass of bucks fizz for the welcome drinks. You could even have your very own signature cocktail, pop a twist on a classic name or work with a mixologist to create a personalised drink for you. The beers, wines and spirits can complement your lives, loves and wedding theme too. Think local and artisan gins, craft beers, or wine from a regional vineyard to reflect your home, travels, favourite places or family roots. For a winter evening reception, mulled wine, hot toddies or steaming mugs of hot chocolate for sipping around a firepit make great festive options and fab photo opportunities too! 83

EXPERT ADVICE
HOT TOPIC Local experts on what’s hot for weddings in 2022
FLOWER POWER
♥ Floral jewellery Floral wrist corsages were hugely popular in the 1940s and ’50s, but their popularity waned towards the end of the 20th century. Well, now they’re back! In 2022 expect to see this look go one step further with both jewellery and stoles made from flowers. These latest trends are not just for the bride either. Expect to see guests and even the mother-of-the-bride getting involved. We particularly love using delicate flowers like orchids, hellebores and ranunculus for floral jewellery.
www.andrewwilkinsonphotography.com
♥ Oversized backdrops Creating a floral wall or arch to position behind your ceremony space or as a selfie backdrop has been popular for a few years, but for 2022 expect these to be bigger and bolder. Blooms will be mixed with other eye-catching elements such as ribbons, crystals to catch the light, as well as other personal touches relevant to the happy couple, such as photographs of loved ones who can’t be at the wedding.
♥ Abundant entrances Since Princess Beatrice’s wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020, couples have wanted to recreate their gorgeous floral entrance and this is a trend that’s set to continue. As well as looking beautiful and smelling divine, it gives an insight into what to expect from the rest of the day. Roses are the perfect flower for this as they’re not only heavily fragrant, but also hardy enough to stand up to our British weather. ♥ Natural and organic designs Lots of greenery and unstructured florals are another big trend. Newlyweds-to-be are increasingly asking for natural and organic designs either to bring the outdoors in or to complement the surroundings for al fresco weddings. We love creating loose, relaxed arrangements that look as if the flowers and foliage are actually growing where they’re placed. ♥ Floral islands We hope it won’t happen, but if there are restrictions on weddings next year, separate islands for different social bubbles will be an option. Anything goes for this; each island can be themed or personal to individual bubbles or have a more relaxed vibe to suit the intimate wedding itself. We love the idea of hanging garlands of flowers and foliage to create islands, turning the dancefloor into a beautiful maze. Candice Westgate | Florist | www.sobloomingbeautiful.co.uk
www.andrewwilkinsonphotography.com
We want our wedding flowers to wow our guests and reflect the latest trends. What would you suggest? Candice says: There are two main contrasts when it comes to wedding flowers for the year ahead, either go big or focus on the smaller details. As current demand for intimate weddings looks set to continue, couples are now looking to trade up and go all out with their wedding flowers while making every guest, in person or virtually, feel special.” Read on for her top five predictions for wedding flowers in 2022.

to mix things up. Speaking of trousers, bridal pantsuits have been a huge hit in 2021 and orders are coming in fast for 2022 weddings. Brides are opting for comfort with a sleek modern edge, whether it’s tailored satin trousers or a wide-leg flare, you can’t beat the freedom and movement on your wedding day! You can still have the classic bridal look too, either with a gorgeous cathedral veil or a detachable skirt or train. For all you boho lovers, don’t worry, this trend is not going anywhere and will definitely still be around in 2022. The perfect fit for smaller weddings, they can also look fab for a more lavish affair; great for beach weddings too. Tiffany Crosson-Smith | Designer | www.tattysoriginal.co.uk
GOING GREEN We want our wedding to be on-trend with lots of decorative details and fashionable styling, avoiding single-use, non-recyclable items to protect the enviroment. How can we do this? Sue says: Of course it goes without saying the green credentials of hiring living plants to decorate your day is right up there, way above anything else. They not only look great and green is a colour that never really goes out of fashion. It’s cool and sophisticated and complements a wide range of different shades and variety of floral arrangements. You don’t always need a huge array of decorations either, often it’s the simple designs that not only work best, but help cut down on waste too. Olive trees with bowls of bright, fresh lemons on the tables always look beautiful. Twisted stemmed bay trees also make an eye-catching feature, great at the entrance to the church or ceremony aisle. HOT PANTS I will be starting the hunt for my dream dress in the new year. What are the latest styles and designs to look out for? Wedding and special occasion wear designer Tiffany says: Over the last two years Covid has brought changes to the wedding industry with many couples having to ditch large-scale celebrations for more intimate affairs. This has seen bridal fashion take a different direction, which I don’t expect to change in the coming year. Two-piece bridal outfits have been on the rise and are likely to be a big hit in 2022. This allows brides to create different looks throughout the day and change elements to suit each part. They may want a modest, covered look for the ceremony and then style it up for the evening party. A simple top change or switching a skirt for trousers in the evening is a great way

Crete can also be combined with both the Cyclades and Dodecanese Islands. ITINERARY INSPIRATION A romantic lustre adds sparkle to the marvellous Sporades Islands.
Legend has it that one island was created by the love child of gods. Now two islands are the focus of one of the 21st-century’s most successful romantic movies, Mamma Mia. Skiathos: Just 12-miles long but with more than 60 beaches, gorgeous Skiathos Town has shady tavernas on a busy waterfront. The narrow streets of the bustling old town are crammed with shops, cafes and bars. You can climb Medieval castles, stroll through forests, discover quiet sandy beaches and even take a rescued dog for a walk. Skopelos: Next stop, scenic Skopelos. Look out for dolphins before you sail into a harbour that is backed by a hillside covered in white houses with terracotta roofs. Tree-filled Skopelos has forests, and orchards and several beaches can be reached easily by bus or hired vehicles and many more beaches are waiting to be found in bays and coves. Alonissos: A gem for those wanting to get away from it all. You feel the sense of calm as you sail into elegant Patitiri, the small town and main port. Some beaches have bright white pebbles or sand creating a vivid contrast with the turquoise sea. Many are surrounded by pine forests that cover much of the island. Alonissos is in Europe’s largest marine park which protects monk seals and dolphins. It has a rescue centre for baby seals ‒ try to fit in a boat trip around the park! MORE ABOUT OLYMPIC HOLIDAYS...
