01623 365 996 | www.warrenfarmhouseweddings.co.uk Warren Farmhouse Weddings & Events is a marquee venue situated in Warren Farm’s grounds; specifically a private two-acre paddock surrounded by farmland and forests. The Duke of Portland once owned the venue and it offers a real slice of local history. The beautifully maintained lawns in front of the farmhouse are part of the venue and often used to host ceremonies and welcome drinks, before the wedding party heads on down to the marquee to enjoy the rest of the wedding celebrations. The paddock has a picturesque pond and an ancient oak tree that houses the famous double rope swing – a popular photo spot for couples and guests. There’s plenty of room around the marquee to set up seating areas using bales of hay, oversized games or a bouncy castle. The marquee is a traditional canvas marquee with exposed wooden poles and rustic touches such as the reclaimed wood bar, the hessian matting flooring throughout and a sturdy wooden dancefloor. The roof is lined with thousands of fairylights and a large hanging chandelier to add a touch of glamour. The couple has the option to choose whether they prefer the more formal limewash banqueting chairs with round tables or the long rustic wooden tables with matching benches. Or indeed a mix of the two to keep all generations happy! The venue doesn’t have a ceremony licence but has an in-house celebrant that can guide couples through the legal process and provide a bespoke ceremony which is often preferred over the traditional civil ceremony option. This takes place either in front of the farmhouse on the beautiful lawns or down in the paddock. A canopy can be provided if the weather doesn’t hold up.

oseph and Angela’s adventure together first started when they crossed paths at work. After three years of just being friends/colleagues, one night changed everything. During a night shift, the pair started chatting more and realised how well they got on and shared the same sense of humour. Angela says, “I think pretty early on we both knew it was special as we’re very well suited. Joe always describes me as ‘The Laurel to his Hardy’, I love that as we’re meant to be together.” During a trip to Oslo on a cruise, Joe plucked up the courage to ask Angela to marry him, which was a huge surprise, and she said yes without hesitation. The date was set for 12th September 2020, and the nearlyweds worked hard to plan their dream wedding. Angela says, “We aimed to create a day we could share with our friends and family; this was ironic needless to say as we ultimately had to restrict our numbers to 30 due to COVID-19.” Nevertheless, the day was still filled with countless memories, plenty of happiness and celebration.

SETTING THE SCENE

The couple had already chosen a venue with large spaces and stunning gardens for their wedding, which ended up not working out due to complications. Angela says, “We contacted Robyn at The Rancliffe Arms who was amazing at helping us to resurrect our reception and make it the wonderful event that it was. We will always be thankful to both Robyn and Rachel and their team for the kindness and positivity – they helped us at our lowest point!”

LOOKING YOUR BEST When it came to finding the perfect wedding dress, the bride-to-be fell in love with the first dress she tried on. She says, “It was everything that I thought I didn’t want with no straps and a long train, but I loved it!” Blush by Jena Louise did the alterations on the gown and added straps. She adds, “I’d had the dress for a year with lots of fittings and then all the worry about restrictions. I was just so happy to be wearing it for the actual day.” The groom looked dashing in a Moss Bros suit which matched the groomsmen. Joseph wore a top hat and gold tie to stand out compared to the blue ties everyone else had on. “I had my sister as one of my bridesmaids and her dress came from David’s Bridal in Birmingham; it was the first dress she had seen and fallen in love with it. The other bridesmaids’ dresses were quite stressful to sort out due to lockdown and not being allowed to try anything on, but they looked beautiful in the end,” says Angela.

TIME TO CELEBRATE To keep guests entertained, a talented musician called Richie Muir performed and created a perfect atmosphere for the day. With more than 20 years’ experience, Richie Muir Acoustics sure know how to capture a crowd. A massive hit with guests was a glitter artist from Wish Upon a Sparkle who added a bit of sparkle to everyone’s day.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS The wedding was full of happiness and relief as the day could finally go ahead after many changes to restrictions the previous weeks. Angela says, “We’re so thankful to have got to the day without any further issues, we were so worried the government might stop weddings and receptions.” A beautiful moment from the day was when the bride-to-be left her mum’s house, “All her neighbours came out to watch and started clapping which was so special – even a delivery driver shouted congratulations out of his window,” says Angela. She adds, “The absolute best bit of the day was walking into the church, a fond part of my childhood, with my dad and seeing Joe smiling down the aisle at me – I feel emotional now thinking about it! HONEYMOON After such an incredible day, the couple jetted off to Italy after their original plans had changed due to COVID-19 – the first destination was Milan. The pair travelled to Santa Margarita Ligure, Venice, Rome, Pisa and back to Milan to fly home. The weather was perfect and the lovebirds got to create more memories and reminisce about the wedding day. 32

ames and Olivia first met by fate during a holiday in Cuba, they hit it off right away and it was a trip they would never forget! Olivia knew they shared something special during a romantic pedalo outing and James couldn’t get Olivia out of his mind. As the couple didn’t live locally, she decided to travel back and forth in the early months of their relationship to be able to spend quality time together. Fast forward to a trip to Norfolk, James knew it was the perfect time to propose and of course she said yes! Their wedding date was set for August 2019, with the aim to be surrounded by their loved ones. Here Olivia shares details about their special day... 37 

egan and Carlos first discovered each other seven years ago when Tinder first started. She says, “I thought it would be fun to give it a go, not once did I think I’d meet the man I was going to marry. I hadn’t thought of using Tinder seriously up until then, but I’m definitely glad I agreed to that date now.” During a trip to York for the weekend, Carlos took Megan to the beautiful gardens at Beningbrough Hall where he proposed. She says, “I actually knew it was

coming as Carlos is not the best at hiding a secret. A couple of days before we went away I mentioned maybe getting my nails done and he said ‘I think you should!’ – he’s never shown so much interest in my nails before! We were engaged for 20 months and I loved every minute of the planning.” The couple’s number one goal for their day was to have fun while not stressing or worrying about anything. Here Megan shares details about their special day… 41 41

We wanted an outdoor wedding with a countryside setting, big open spaces and lots of natural light. Shottle Hall ticked all those boxes with views for miles, a beautiful outdoor ceremony space and a range of settings including the formal hall and the barn to the marquee.

We had pearl-draped candelabra surrounded with little vases of flowers and our table numbers for our centrepieces – it was simple but not too plain. We had wooden names of all of our guests made and spray-painted them rose gold for our place names. We had charity pin favours for each guest, a moustache from CRUK for the guys and a gold heart to support Macmillan for the girls. We also gave each guest a mini jar of jam made by Carlos’ dad from the fruit of his trees in Brazil, which I thought was a fantastic touch!

Our table names were places that we had visited together and were special to us; we had mini-wooden easels with polaroid pictures from our trips.

We didn’t go for a traditional tiered wedding cake, but a big dessert buffet with two giant Colin the Caterpillar cakes dressed as a bride and groom instead – who doesn’t love a Colin cake! 42

REAL WEDDINGS Our venue dresser provided a sweet cart, blossom trees and giant LOVE letter lights for the marquee in the evening.

My sister and mother-in-law made some beautiful floral hoops which we hung up in the marque.

I wore a Justin Alexander Signature ballgown with a layered organza skirt and lots of intricate lace. I wanted something simple and relaxed initially, and once I’d put on this dress I knew it was the one!

The bridesmaids wore floor-length dresses which complemented our colour scheme perfectly Shottle Hall did all the food and it was so good! The food was important to Carlos and I’m happy with the options we picked, it was all amazing and we got loads of compliments about it.

We had a guitarist for the ceremony who played Can’t Help Falling in Love as I walked down the aisle.

Carlos, his two best men and both of our dads wore a navyblue suit with dusky pink ties and waistcoats; the groom stood out with a checked-style pattern and he looked very dapper!

Walking down the aisle was surreal to me; we both felt excited and ready to start the rest of our lives together!

The day was a dream come true to both of us, everything was perfect and we had the best day!

All of our closest friends and family made such an effort for us from ferrying us around on the day to Carlos’ mum and sister helping to make decorations to my aunt making an entire dessert table. We were so grateful, and it made the day so much more meaningful too.

In the evening we had a DJ from GC Events who we’d met at an open day and a photo booth which was lots of fun; it was great looking back at all the silly photos and our guests loved it!

Carlos’ dad did a speech which was so special because he doesn’t really speak English but made an effort to write one and speak on the day!

All the speeches were so fantastic! My dad had everyone in tears at one point, and all of my bridesmaids did a speech which was so lovely too!

We went on a five-day trip to Cornwall for our minimoon and did lots of exploring and just enjoying being newlyweds. We had our official honeymoon three months later where we spent a week in Canada exploring the most amazing mountains, lakes and views – it was all so incredible! We then spent a week in Hawaii in a fantastic resort, relaxing by the pools and at the beach.

hen it came to finding the perfect venue to showcase micro-wedding inspiration, Overgrown Acres in Nottingham fit the bill. Located in the middle of the countryside with views of rolling hills and fields, the woodland area inspired Linzi Barford at that black & white cat to coordinate a shoot to share plenty of inspiration for nearlyweds. She says, “The focus of the industry is currently on micro-weddings with COVID-19 restrictions, I wanted to show that having smaller numbers on your wedding day means that you can go to town on the details. I couldn’t have asked for a better team to help create and capture my vision.” Samantha Hook Photography captured all the details on the day including dahlias paired with fair trade scented roses, natural foliage and smaller white pompom dahlias created by Limewood Flowers. The company specialises in locally grown flowers with a low-carbon footprint and its natural-style was the perfect match for the location. The bouquet was a contemporary and loose-style with hand-dyed silk ribbons from Bertie & Fred. Makeup and Glow by Fran created make-up looks to match two different gowns, the first showed off the lips using a deep red lipstick and the second took the focus to the eyes by using browns and golds to make the eyes pop. The new look was matched with a change of hairstyle from Rock n Roller Hair and a hair vine from Love2Sparkle finished off the look beautifully. The props were provided by that black & white cat and the team at The English Wedding Company alongside matching stationery from Wild Calligraphy GB. The cake from Strawberry Cupcakes was topped with a stag representing the woodland and matched the colour palette perfectly. Every wedding needs entertainment, so the team from Busography provided a vintage Campervan photo booth with rustic foliage backdrops that matched the theme – and of course there were lots of props for fun wedding photos!

This shoot’s a gorgeous example of ways to add a personal twist to any backdrop. The styling for the day was dark and romantic whilst still being sophisticated and elegant. Tracy Watson at Nottingham’s Swancar Farm Country House teamed up with photographer Chris Snowden and a range of local suppliers to bring her vision to life. She says, “I love the deep seasonal colours, so we paired that with metallics, dramatic blooms and a touch of sparkle to add a subtle Gothic, romantic feel to our backdrop. The Glass Barn is the venue’s newest addition for ceremonies and reception drinks; we couldn’t wait to see what could be done in there with the styling.” “From smoke bombs and autumnal leaf confetti to the sun setting just at the right moment, we couldn’t have asked for a better backdrop,” says Tracy. “There’s been much uncertainty over the past year and the shoot was the perfect opportunity for us all to do what we do best – weddings!” 55 

A: Felicia says: Planning a wedding at any time can be stressful, but add in a pandemic with possible lockdown or restrictions on numbers is a whole other level of stress. The thing about stress is that biologically, it’s an adaptive response. We should respond to stress and then move on (or adapt) but added stress can prevent this from happening. It’s important to identify the causes to support yourself, it sounds so simple but can be useful. Are your stressors internal

with the fear of something happening or not happening? Or is it external such as worrying about the guest list and who can come? Ask yourself, why is this stressful for me? What can I do to lessen the impact, and who do I need to help me with this? Food can also support you, ensure you eat regularly so that your blood sugar levels are stable and won’t have you fluctuating all over the place. Incorporate magnesium and vitamin B rich foods like; whole grains, nuts, avocado, kale, beans, lentils and chicken into your diet, which are natural relaxants and support our energy. You deserve a relaxed, blissfully and happy wedding day!

Q: I’ve got long hair and have no idea what to do with it on my wedding day, what would you suggest? A: Robyn says: Having lots of length opens up lots of style options for your big day, but a lot will depend on the thickness of your hair. Long thick hair is perfect for a mermaid braidstyle. You’ll have plenty of length and thickness naturally to give that full dramatic look that the braid needs. If your hair holds a curl well, a Hollywood wave or half up half down-style looks so fabulous with lots of length. However, if you lack natural thickness or your hair doesn’t hold a curl too well, clip-in hair extensions are perfect for both these styles. They can add thickness to the braid and also acts as a kind of scaffolding for curls. If you’d prefer an up do, a high or low voluminous bun, sleek or textured, would be easily achieved with lots of length. Plaits also lend themselves well to long hair as you can get a full look without running out of hair. So, in short, if you have lots of length, your hair possibilities are endless! Work with your stylist to find the best style to suit your dress and face shape.

The year 2021 promises to give me the highest call for my seamstress skills in 15 years. After a year indoors, brides are reappearing out of lockdown with amazing ideas for their wedding gowns. The marry now party later concept has made couples focus on celebrating with their close family and social bubbles. As weddings are being scaled back to focus on the intimate ceremony, more emphasis is being centred on a personal soft wedding outfit. Despite simple classic shapes such as fit-and-flare skirts or simple soft tulle shapes remaining popular, customers want to customise their gowns to create bespoke details on their wedding dress. Tulle is becoming a staple in my studio as soft fabrics are taking centre focus. I’m being asked to add fluffy capped sleeves into shouldered gowns to create a relaxed touch, and help the bride feel comfortable with problem areas such as the backs of their arms. Handmade single-layered veils are becoming even more popular to add rich texture to the simple soft laces in gowns. Pairing this tulle bohemian look with traditionally structured bodices helps the post-lockdown bride feel excited about finally saying ‘I do’.
