CHURCH ON TIME Anyone who knows me well will agree that I’m a magpie for not just everything that sparkles but also anything vintage so it was great chatting to Jenni Wood, owner of Milbury Morris Minors based in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, about how many wedding couples are now asking for old-fashioned style cans to be tied to the back of the vehicles like weddings years ago used to have – it was music to my ears because these would be top of my wish-list if I was getting married! Jenni told me, “I supply and personalise these and they’re great for rustic-inspired celebrations. My hand-painted Just Married vintage suitcase is also a big hit, along with pretty bunting and fresh flower garlands. Couples love my Morris Traveller that I lovingly named Hazel which looks fabulous draped with blooms and is the perfect choice for the mother-of-the-bride and bridesmaids to travel in.” Your Glos & Wilts Wedding has teamed up with Milbury Morris Minors to offer readers a complimentary bottle of bubbly for every booking. The Holford Arms is a multi-award-winning traditional country pub situated within eight acres of Cotswold countryside on the Wiltshire and Gloucestershire border. It’s home to six en suite bedrooms, five luxury chalets, four permanent bell tents for glamping (a bell tent ‘village’ can be erected on request) and camping and campervan facilities are also available. The grounds include vegetable gardens, cider orchards and a vineyard and the friendly team host everything from festival-inspired weddings to more intimate affairs. Weddings take place in the newly built wedding barn and couples have the choice to create their bespoke menu from a barbecue, Thai cuisine buffet, festival-style street food or a lavish three-course meal.
ELMORE COURT, GLOUCESTERSHIRE This exclusive-use wedding venue offers couples a Grade II listed country house, the Gillyflower events ballroom and a private rural location. Recent developments have seen a newly trained team, which has grown in size, and the walled garden that forms part of the estate having been restored to its original use as a working-produce garden with dishes on the menu using ingredients sourced from it. Longhorn cattle have been successfully introduced and are happily settled, and plans for tree houses to be built on the grounds mean that woodland weddings, treehouse stays and rewilding retreats will be available in early 2023. Ceremonies take place in a variety of areas in the main house

aisy and Alex met when they were introduced by a friend. “We arranged to meet for lunch,” Daisy tells us. “We both lived a few hours apart but regularly made time to spend with each other and the rest is history!” The couple became engaged during a holiday in Canada. “Alex asked me to marry him at the top of Sulphur Mountain as we exited the gondola,” Daisy says. “It was a beautiful day and a wonderful surprise.”
SETTING THE SCENE The couple viewed a few barn wedding venues before walking into Cripps Barn. “We both instantly knew that we wanted to get married there,” Daisy tells us. “We adored the rustic-inspired, romantic setting and the open fireplace was perfect for our winter wedding,” Daisy explains. “We were inviting 60 guests in total “We didn’t have space in so the barn provided an ideal intimate setting.” our budget for an official Daisy and Alex chose a personalised wooden board as their table plan. “It featured a watercolour stag design with burgundy touches that matched wedding car so we asked my our invitations and welcome board,” Daisy tells us. “My uncle made the stepfather and our best man if table numbers using horseshoes placed in the centre of each table on oak we could use their vehicles to slabs and my father has a collection of restored post boxes and lent us one use as a wedding post box which he drilled on to a wooden board and transport us - it was a laugh topositioned on the side next to our guestbook.” The couple gave each guest for the gents to decorate a personalised wooden coaster with their name on it, which doubled up as their vehicles with bows and their place setting and favour and provided a wonderful keepsake. Daisy and Alex’s choice of flowers included white blooms with a hint of ribbons!” – Daisy pink mixed with plenty of foliage. “Our bouquets and buttonholes looked perfect,” Daisy tells us. “Our florist collected the arrangements the following day and we loved being able to hand bunches out to our loved ones and keep some ourselves. Our buttercream cake was also decorated with fresh flowers along with a personalised wooden cake topper.”

The couple chose the British feast menu for their wedding breakfast. “It created a relaxed, social atmosphere with everyone helping themselves from large platters of food,” Daisy says. “Because our families are from different parts of the country, it got everybody talking which was lovely to watch. For the main course, we chose roast lamb with all the trimmings which was the best lamb we’ve ever had, and many of our guests said the same! Everything from the canapés to the pork baps served in the evening tasted delicious.”
REAL WEDDINGS
LOOKING THE PART Daisy wore a plain satin A-line gown featuring a pearl and diamanté belt that she teamed with a faux-fur cape and a satin-lined veil. “The shape of my dress was very flattering and I finished my look with some subtle diamond jewellery.” Alex wore a grey morning suit, the same as the groomsmen, but teamed his with an ivory waistcoat while the others wore grey waistcoats. “The men wore matching pocket watches and cufflinks along with buttonholes made with pink roses and foliage plus burgundy ties and pocket squares to match the burgundy bridesmaids’ dresses,” Daisy tells us. “Our bridesmaids also wore fluffy cardigans with their full-length dresses that looked stunning.”
TIME TO ENTERTAIN The couple hired a string quartet who performed a selection of classic tracks and modern covers. “Our guests said it was great having musicians to watch rather than just listen to as they arrived at our ceremony,” Daisy tells us. “After the wedding breakfast, we booked a live band called The Sweet & Lowdown who played for three hours during the evening and sounded fantastic. They performed a good mix of party hits and 80s songs, which is our favourite kind of music, and our guests loved it, everyone joined the dancefloor at least once! After they finished at 11 pm, we had a party playlist pre-made for those still dancing! We’re fans of the rock band called Elbow and have always loved their song Mirrorball so we asked The Sweet & Lowdown to play a version because it held so many memories for us, and for the first few minutes we slow danced together in front of everyone. We had asked our best man, Adam, to get people dancing during the instrumental halfway through the song, which he timed perfectly, and for the last few minutes of the performance, the entire barn was filled with all of our nearest and dearest dancing in pairs or small groups which was magical to see, and a part of the day that neither of us will forget. A friend was recording it on his camera and we’re so glad we have that to keep forever.”

lex and Nick met on a train when they were both headed out for the evening. “We were sat near one another and Nick started a conversation,” Alex tells us. “I had a boyfriend at the time so I wasn’t very talkative but he added me as a friend on Facebook (which I ignored for five months) and we started messaging each other on my birthday after I became single. We met up for our first date and the rest is history! Nick says that it was love at first sight for him but for me, it was his perseverance because he had to put in some serious effort to win me over!” The couple became engaged during a trip to Kenya. “My mum lives there so I had flown over to see her for the Easter holidays without Nick who was busy with work commitments,” Alex tells us. “I enjoyed a wonderful week with mum going on safari and relaxing on the beach. On Good Friday, I was asleep on a sun lounger and woke up to somebody tapping me on the shoulder which turned out to be Nick! He told me that he had travelled there to ask me something, at which point the penny dropped. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him with a beautiful diamond solitaire ring that had been made using my late grandmother’s engagement ring. I heard clapping behind me as I said ‘yes’ which was my mum – she had been watching the entire proposal and was in on the surprise! Nick had also taken my dad out for dinner two weeks earlier to ask for his permission – he had thought of everything!” Here, Alex tells us all about their blush-pink and grey-themed day at Bowood in Calne, Wiltshire.

Alexandra Louise Thompson (known as Alex) married Nicholas Roy Young (known as Nick) on 7th August 2021 at St John the Baptist Church, Colerne followed by a reception at Bowood in Calne, Wiltshire.

I always knew that I wanted to get married at The Parish Church of St John the Baptist Coler ne because my mum’s parents lived in the village when I was a child and I have so many happy memories of visiti ng there. Both of my grandparents are buried in the graveyard and the church is just beautiful.
When we visited various wedding venues near Coler ne, Bowood stood out immediately. The Golden Gates as you enter provide the wow factor plus it had The Kerry Suite that was large enough for everyone to be gathered together in with a dancefloor and private bar just for our guest s. We didn’t want lots of different rooms because we wanted to keep everyone together.
My bridal car was a family vintage Sunbeam that my mum’s cousin drove my dad and me in. Our bridesmaids followed in a beautiful old white taxi while my mum travelled in a Rolls -Royce.
Our guests blew bubbl
es as we exited the chu rch as well as threw confett i!

We used two different florists for our wedding flowers. The one from the village where the church is located often provides the arrangements for weddings held there and created us some wonderful displays for the entrance, pulpit, altar, windows, pillars and pews using soft-pink blooms mixed with traditional white flowers and plenty of foliage. After the ceremony, we left them for a celebration of life service that was being held on the same day for a friend of my grandparents, and the arrangements from the pews were placed on my grandparent’s grave.
“Our photographer, Lauren, was so organised and took amazing pictures – we loved our couple portraits taken outside.” – Alex and Nick

Our other florist frequently crea tes wedding flowers for celebrations taking place at Bow ood and made the table arrangements, cake garland, door displays, bouquets, buttonholes and corsages. We chose succulents for the bridesmaids’ bouquets and free sias for my bouquet which are my favourite flower, I love the smell of them.

arriet and Robbie met at her place of work. “I worked on reception at a gym and remember Robbie when he first signed up to become a member,” Harriet tells us. “He was handsome and happy and always made time to chat when he came in which was nice. Robbie then became housemates with my manager, Vanessa, who played cupid and got us together at a house party!” The couple became engaged during a surprise proposal in Thailand. “Robbie proposed in Koh Yao Noi, an island off the West coast of Thailand,” Harriet tells us. “We were on a beach swing watching the sunset when he got down on one knee. It was a wonderful surprise because he hadn’t been well a few days earlier and had to spend a few nights in a Thai hospital fighting off Typhus fever (a rare jungle infection).”
SETTING THE SCENE The couple had planned to get married in Italy but due to the restrictions in place because of the pandemic, decided to get married in the UK with their closest family and a couple of close friends present. “The Frogmill venue that we chose was home to The Snug room which suited what we wanted for our day,” Harriet tells us. “It was cosy and intimate but also felt spacious enough for 20 guests and the two outdoor terraces were an attraction, too.” The couple decorated their day with a rustic and blush-pink theme. “My beautiful bridal bouquet included pink peonies, white and light pink roses, stock, eucalyptus and rosemary along with thistle as a nod to Robbie’s Scottish heritage,” Harriet explains. “Our centrepieces were foliage and rose displays surrounded by tea lights and wooden hearts on rectangular tables. I hand-painted our place name cards and as favours, we gave our guests Italian Sfogliatella with Nutella and custard as a nod to our original plans to marry in Italy.” Harriet and Robbie chose to have a naked cake decorated with summer berries. “The bottom layer was a chocolate mud cake and the top tier was lemon-flavoured which combined our two favourites,” Harriet explains.
“After our wedding breakfast, our two nieces, Isla and Neve, gave the roses from our table to some other guests sitting outside which was a lovely touch.” – Harriet and Robbie 35

LOOKING THE PART Harriet chose the dress called Tommy by Made With Love. “It was so elegant and I loved it,” she tells us. “I teamed it with a pair of sparkly earrings and some sandals.” Robbie wore a navy suit teamed with a dark-grey waistcoat while the couple’s groomsmen wore their own suits and the bridesmaids their own pink dresses. “Because we had a small wedding, we didn’t want it to look like everyone was wearing the same outfit!” Harriet explains. “My dad accidentally left the security tag on his suit jacket which stayed on for the entire day!”
TIME TO ENTERTAIN The couple didn’t book any entertainment because of the restrictions in place at the time. “Robbie’s friend, Adrian Berry, is a singer and now part of a band. He sorted out all of our music and got everyone up and dancing,” Harriet says. “It was lots of fun - some of the best parts of our day were the dancing and the speeches – and the ceremony of course!”
“We both felt a bit nervous at the start of our wedding day but we were able to relax and enjoy it and loved how it turned out.” – Harriet and Robbie

Want to guarantee that perfect confetti picture? It’s one of the most fun, colourful shots of the day when everyone is in the moment enjoying themselves. The key is having plenty of confetti and handing it to guests as they walk out of the church or ceremony room. It helps if it’s loose, making it quicker to throw.
If you have a pet, you may want them to be a guest of honour at your wedding and have some photographs taken with them. Check that your venue is welcoming of pets and choose some accessories for them to wear that matches your colour theme, for example, a dog collar or a cute bow tie.

Consider having a proposal shoot which can be memorable way of capturing that special moment of surprise when you pop the question. It’s also a great way of getting to know your wedding photographer so that you feel relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera on the big day itself, which will enable them to photograph you authentically. Another opportunity to practise posing for pictures is by booking an engagement shoot and asking for any tips that you can then try out at home.

lanning a wedding is a wonderful and exciting time for both partners and booking your photographer should be the first thing you do after securing your date and your venue. Consider what you’d like from your photographer as there are many different styles, from natural, candid images to more posed ones. Look through websites and social media feeds to get a feel for what you like and ask them about their experience. Ask to see albums of full weddings that they have photographed instead of just a handful of images.

Up to 40% of engagements take place between Christmas and Valentine’s Day meaning now is a key time for researching wedding photography
Want to achieve the best sparkler shots? Ask your bridesmaids to hand sparklers to all of your guests, preferably early in the evening. Make sure they’ve got something to light them with and ask the venue to have some sand or water buckets ready for putting them out. 45
www.gettyimages.co.uk
Light is really important in photography, it can make the difference between a dynamic image and a flat one, so consider the time of day that you’re getting hitched.
During those all-important getting ready shots in the bridal suite, remove carrier bags or ironing boards left in the background. A good photographer will keep an eye on these spoilers but they will also want to capture candid shots. 46
www.gettyimages.co.uk www.gettyimages.co.uk www.gettyimages.co.uk
www.gettyimages.co.uk
Always have someone from the bridal party call out names for the group shots. The photographer won’t know who is who, so to help, make sure you nominate someone that will know who is needed and when.
On the day itself, remember to keep your hands in their pockets if you aren’t holding anything like the bouquets or each other. Connect during the couple portraits by hugging, kissing and touching and don’t look at the camera - natural images, whether silly or romantic, are important.
Don’t worry if your photographer hasn’t worked at your chosen venue before. Suggest that they meet you both there ahead of your wedding to have a look around and go through everything.

www.gettyimages.co.uk www.gettyimages.co.uk
Take the time to go through the details of your day with your wedding photographer, it’s so important that they know what’s happening when whether it’s a small or big celebration. Give as many details about your day to the photographer including timings and suppliers.
Your photographer should offer you the opportunity to have a second shooter attend on the day to capture the details, preparation and special moments that the main photographer might miss while taking the couple portraits and group photos.
Remember to smile up the aisle and to look up, not down at your feet. Your photographer will love you for it! At the end of the ceremony, turn to face your guests and smile again – a high-five or a cheer always makes for a wonderful photograph as you walk out!

JADE HOLLY PHOTOGRAPHY “Look at how the photographer captures the moments of the day, you want someone who is going to document the tears, laughter, hugs, kisses, excitement and nerves. There’ll be elements of the day that happen without you even realising and all good photographers will thrive on capturing these moments. You want to look back on your special day and feel every single emotion all over again.” - Jade Book Jade: www.jadehollyphotography.com; www.facebook.com/JadeHollyPhotography; www.instagram.com/jadehollyphotography
DANIELLA MARINOS PHOTOGRAPHY “Find a photographer you connect with because they are with you for the entire day and if you don’t have a rapport, you won’t feel comfortable when it comes to posing for the couple portrait images. Remember - don’t look down during the confetti throw and don’t forget to smile! It’s a natural instinct to look down but the best shots are the ones where you’re smiling and looking up or at each other. Finally, when it comes to scheduling the timings of the day, it’s important to remember to leave enough time in between events ensuring that your photographer has enough time to capture everything.” - Daniella Book Daniella: 07720 230 977, www.daniellamarinosphotography.com, www.facebook.com/DaniellaMarinosPhotography www.instagram.com/daniellamarinosphotography

PHOTOGRAPHY LIBBY CLARK PHOTOGRAPHY “Be aware of the skills needed for photography at your chosen venue. If there isn’t much natural light available, you’ll want to see a portfolio from the photographer showing their experience of using flash in dark venues. Go with your photographer’s instincts about the best places to have the photos taken around your venue and feel free to make suggestions too. Embrace the weather, even if it’s raining - some of the best shots are those taken in the rain.” - Libby “Set a realistic budget and if money is tight, ask your photographer about booking a smaller package, mid-week prices or research one who
is building up their portfolio in addition to having a full-time job. Don’t be scared to limit your formal group shot list to 10 or less. Trust me, your photographer and guests will thank you for this, so will your cheeks when they ache! Tell your photographer if there are people you are particularly keen on having photos of, for example, an elderly member of the family because it’s not always possible to get a photograph of everyone there.” - Libby Book Libby: 07835 936 885; www.libbyclarkphotography.co.uk; www.facebook.com/libbyclarkphotography; www.instagram.com/libbyclarkphotography
CAPTURE THIS MOMENT PHOTOGRAPHY “Backup equipment is crucial so ask your photographer if they have this. You don’t want them turning up on the day with only one camera body. What happens if a strap breaks and the camera falls to the ground before the ceremony has started? Do they have multiple lenses incase they are needed? It’s also worth enquiring how they back up your images and finally, what happens if they are ill?” - Kathryn Book Kathryn: 07816 477 243; https://capturethismoment.co.uk; www.facebook.com/Capturethismomentphotography; www.instagram.com/capturethismomentphotography
CARISSA AT CAPTURE EVERY MOMENT “Lighting is key when it comes to taking stunning photographs. If the Great British weather isn’t on your side and it rains heavily during the portrait photographs, ask family members to be on hand to shield you from the downpour! Despite any rain, fog and cold, it’s still possible to venture outside for a photograph. Trust your photographer’s judgement which will guarantee some fantastic shots.” - Carissa Carissa and Paul were the talented snappers behind our real wedding of Daisy and Alex shown here – turn to page 24 to read all about it and to see the real wedding of Ben and Alun, also shown in these images, download our previous issue at: www.yourgloswilts.wedding/previous-issue/2139 Book Carissa and Paul: 07521 611 678, www.captureeverymoment.co.uk, www.facebook.com/CaptureEveryMomentPhotographer, www.instagram.com/cem_photographer

EXPERT ADVICE
HOT TOPIC Our experts answer your big-day questions
A WAY WITH WORDS
How does my hubby-to-be and our best man prepare an engaging speech for our wedding? Meet the expert: Jackie Graybill is a member of Toastmasters International, a not-for-profit organisation providing communication and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs that includes Salisbury Speakers and Thamesdown Speakers Club in Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, plus Gloucester Speakers, Cheltenham Speakers and Malvern Speakers in Gloucestershire. Jackie is currently involved with the Gloucester, Cheltenham and Malvern areas. Jackie says: For a momerable wedding speech, you’ll need plenty of great stories to tell to keep everyone entertained and laughing and bring the odd sentimental tear to their eyes. Here are some tips for great wedding storytelling:
❤ Keep your stories short and sweet - if you feel like you’re adding too much detail, you probably are. ❤ Add some mystery - begin with a mystery and include them throughout your story, it will keep your listeners intrigued. A great start might be, “I have a confession to make…” or “Let me share something you’ve never heard before…” ❤ Rather than reporting what people in your story said, become those characters as they have a dialogue. Step into their physical space by shifting slightly where you stand and where you’re looking. ❤ Our five senses have a powerful effect on our experiences. You could describe a delicious recipe that the happy couple makes, or a nature walk they love. Toastmasters International, www.toastmasters.org

The package offers lovers the chance to get behind the wheel of speedy and stylish vehicles such as a Ferrari or a Lamborghini. Alex MacGregor at DrivingExperience.com, commented, “Such a sharp increase in bookings show us that lovers have vowed to leave lockdown behind as they zoom into marriage with a high-octane, adrenaline-fuelled driving experience.” Alex added, “The popularity of our Supercar Blast for Two suggests that, perhaps surprisingly, couples are actually opting to spend their final moments not apart but together.” www.drivingexperience.com
PHOTOGRAPHY I am a professional photographer based in Salisbury and cover the South of England. I capture natural but refined moments in a relaxed and stylish way. I love emotive, natural photography and want to give you something a little bit more. I was always the friend or family member with the camera that everyone relied on to document parties and outings. Day to day I am an Occupational Therapist in a busy acute hospital, helping the elderly get back home and participate in what is meaningful to them. I feel so incredibly lucky to have found something else, at the other end of the spectrum, which allows me to get creative and express myself in a completely different way.

Let me eat cake!
County Wedding Magazines editor Melissa Barker shares her wedding planning journey
A
s some of you may know, my fiancé and I are due to get married in July 2022 – eek! We got engaged on Christmas Day 2020 and have been eagerly counting down the months waiting for the big day to arrive. We’ve booked most of our suppliers and are just finishing up the last few things, so fingers crossed the next few months go smoothly! In this issue, read about our search for the perfect entertainment and wedding cake.
JUST ONE SLICE We’ve been going back and forth since getting engaged about having a wedding cake. Dave doesn’t have a sweet tooth, while I can’t get enough of anything smothered in chocolate! After talking to our family (who were all team cake by the way) we decided to get one made up of layers of lemon and chocolate – delish! I found an amazing cake company in An Essex Wedding, which I emailed to see if they could replicate a semi-naked design I’d fallen in love with. We originally wanted a two-tier
design, but with 110 guests in the evening, we were informed that we would need a three-tier design to cater for 80 per cent of the people attending, the bigger the better I say. During my research, I came across a company that creates personalised cake toppers that were oh-so-cute I just had to have one! Made from clay, the topper will be figures of us dressed in our wedding attire accompanied by a model of our beloved cat. We’ve been told that the big day will fly by in the blink of an eye, so we’re keen to get mementos of the day that we can treasure for years to come and this cake topper will certainly be going in the wedding box. We’re so excited to see it all come together, but I’m also slightly nervous since we won’t see the finished designs until the reception. I have complete trust in our suppliers, but the control freak in me wishes I could do everything myself to ensure it’s perfect – but what do I honestly know about making cakes or moulding clay cats? So I’ll be leaving it to the professionals!

DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY
58
Dave and I couldn’t decide if we wanted to have a band or DJ for our evening entertainment and it’s such a big part of the reception we knew we had to get it right. I came across an agency in An Essex Wedding that provides hundreds of bands across the UK. We spent hours going through the acts within our budget, and we eventually decided on one we loved. As companies are getting booked up quite far in advance due to the pandemic, it turned out the band we wanted was unavailable. We felt quite disheartened, but the representative came to the rescue listing a few alternatives that were within our price range and offered a similar type of music – problem solved! We decided that a three-piece all-male band suited us perfectly; they will play three sets with a DJ in between to ensure our guests are
entertained all night long. Choosing songs is a lot harder than we anticipated. The band has asked us to choose 10 from their repertoire, 30 we want to appear in their DJ set and one for our first dance. Dave and I have a similar taste in music, but it’s quite overwhelming trying to find tunes that represent us as a couple that will also keep our friends and family happy. For our first dance, we wanted something a bit different, so we’ve chosen I Just Don’t Think I’ll Get Over You by Colin Hay. To try and help us narrow down the other options, we’ve asked our guests to leave song suggestions on our wedding website, which will hopefully help us give us some ideas! Check out the next issue where I’ll be discussing our search for the bridesmaids’ dresses and groomsmen’s outfits.

Here’s my moodboard to give you heaps of inspiration.
BRIDE’S DIARY
Sparklers are a lovely addition to any photo, and I can’t wait to take some pictures in the evening with them.
To tie in with our rustic theme, we want a log slice cake stand, but I’m struggling to find one big enough!
Who doesn’t love a flower arch? Our florist is going to provide a small version outside our wedding marquee.
I’ve purchased some cute bridesmaids’ robes for the girls to wear on the morning of the wedding while they have their hair and make-up done.
Generally, I’m not a massive fan of pearls, so I’ve surprised myself by choosing to wear them on the day.
I’ve finally decided on an up do with a gorgeous pearl hairclip and veil.
My bridesmaids and I are going shopping soon and are looking for floor-length A-line gowns with flowing sleeves.
Dave and I are going to pick suits in January and are leaning towards something casual and blue.
The bridesmaids are planning to wear comfortable block heels. 59

BUZZ BEAT THE WINTER BLUES
Suffering from a winter skin slump? One of the best ingredients to get your through it is hyaluronic acid, which has an amazing way of getting that missing glow and hydration back on track. Faye Purcell, product development chemist and skincare expert at Q+A says, “Being exposed to winter environments can cause the outer layer of skin to dry out, leading to irritation, flakiness and lack of radiance. Opting for a humectant like hyaluronic acid is vital as it draws moisture from the air into the skin. When it’s absorbed it can release that moisture directly into our cells and help retain it for longer.” Check out Q+A’s latest range focusing on this all-important ingredient, which includes a Hydrating Cleanser (£7.50), Face Mist (£6.50) and Facial Serum (£6.50). EDITOR LOVES
We’re all washing our hands a lot more often than we used to and while it’s super-important to keep that up, it does cause the skin to suffer. Frequent use of hand sanitiser too can compromise the skin’s microbiome, leading to dryness, roughness and signs of ageing. If these woes sound familiar, check out Mavala’s new Prebiotic Hand Cream. With a rich formula it offers immediate comfort to those with sensitive, delicate and dry hands. It contains 87 per cent natural-origin ingredients and offers the necessary nutrients to maintain the balance of microbiological activity of the skin. What I also love is that it doesn’t leave behind that annoying greasy residue that puts me off a lot of hand creams. It sinks in fast and my cuppa doesn’t slip through my fingers! It’s now a desk essential. You can find Mavala Prebiotic Hand Cream in leading pharmacies, priced at £16.

reboot your sleep
Don’t underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep – it’s vital for fighting off tiredness, stress and winter bugs. But beware hibernation mode. It’s tempting to oversleep during dark winter months, but this can make you feel sluggish. Aim for around eight hours a night and try to go to bed and get up at the same time every day to encourage a healthy bedtime routine. Natural remedies such as Together Health’s Night Time Marine Magnesium Complex (£12.99, www.togetherhealth.co.uk) can also be hugely beneficial. Q&A Our experts reveal all
ALL MAID UP I want to book a make-up artist for myself and my bridesmaids who can recommend new-season colours for us that suit us all can you help? Meet the expert: Caroline Swaffield is the lead artist and director of Amazing Face Bridal Hair & Makeup. Caroline says: Firstly, It’s important to choose a make-up artist with plenty of experience - check their Instagram profile and their Google reviews and make sure that you like their style. Give them a call to ask any questions that you might have. Secondly, book a trial and don’t be afraid to say that you’re not happy with any aspects of it because a good make-up artist will not mind and will be grateful for your input and happy to tweak until you achieve the result you want, that’s the point of having a trial.
DRESSING YOUR BEST GIRLS
Every person’s face is so different and as an award-winning make-up artist, I base my work on this. Styles for 2022 include soft dewy skin with bolder lips. Metallic eyes, brown earthy tones and jewel colours for the eyes will feature heavily and the soft, natural wedding make-up look is always popular so that you look like you but a little more enhanced. The colour of the bridesmaids’ dresses, flowers, the type of venue and the time of day you’re getting married can help to determine your chosen look. For example, beach weddings will need an entirely different look to that of a wedding held in a stately home or country manor, so coral tones are ideal for a beachy look while a sophisticated darker eye with a glamorous red lip is perfect for a more formal wedding. Your vision for your big-day look mixed with your style is key too, after all, it’s your wedding day and your make-up artist is on hand to help you with whatever look you want. One bit of advice is no drastic transformations, you want to look like the best version of yourself. “Dress your little lovelies in tiered ruffled skirts – the frillier, the better!”
Meet the expert: Claire Ridley is the editor of Your Glos & Wilts Wedding and the fashion editor across all CWM titles. Claire says: Here’s my go-to guide for dressing your best girls this season: “Carrie Bradshaw eat your heart out! I’m a big Sex and the City fan and the return of And Just Like That has inspired many dress designs. Think frothy tulle skirts and you get the idea - perfect for a chic city wedding. Simply add a pair of Manolos!” “Grown-up pastels are the shades of the season with sage-green and soft lilac dresses a fashionable choice. Muted metallics are also hot hues to be seen in, from champagne and rose gold to silver-grey.”
“Multiway dresses are perfect for adult bridesmaids. They can be styled to complement their best assets and that way, everyone will feel confident and camera-ready!” “Pick cute candy shades for your flowergirls with contrasting pastel posies to finish.” “It’s important that your bridesmaids wear the same shoes to look coordinated in the photographs. Choose sparkly flats for a festival-themed al fresco celebration, or skyscraper heels for the perfect party pick.”

Those wishing to relax with an after-dinner drink can do so in The Monkey Bar where the Harrow & Hope Brut Reserve and Monkey Shoulder blended malt scotch whiskey are to be tried. For a cheeky late-night tipple, The Whiskey Snug, accessed via a secret staircase, is not to be missed, especially for the romantic view of the footbridge lit up at night.
WHAT’S NEW? The Shepherd’s Hideaway is nestled in a private spot in the grounds, decorated with contemporary countryside interiors. Memories can be made at this hand-crafted hut, with a celebratory afternoon tea or a gourmet picnic for between two and six guests that can be booked as an add-on to an overnight stay. Non-residents at the hotel are also welcome, perfect for visitors to the delightful village of Bray-on-Thames, where this island resides, to enjoy.
