HATCH HOUSE, TISBURY Hatch House is a family home in the heart of Wiltshire located in a private setting. The beautiful grounds include several garden rooms providing a variety of spaces for weddings of all sizes. A tree-lined avenue forms the perfect entrance leading down the main driveway that sweeps down to the house. The property was transformed in the early 20th century by the celebrated architect Detmar Blow. The stone exterior blends into the setting and the theatrical façade overlooking the picturesque gardens nods to the vibrant, eclectic interior that maintains the warmth and feel of a family home. Ceremonies can be held in a choice of three areas. The dining room is a small intimate space with stunning views of the gardens and the capacity to seat up to 45 guests. Couples can sign the register in the hall and then move to the gardens to enjoy drinks. The other two areas for ceremonies are the porch at the back of the house overlooking the gardens and the pavilion in the heart of the 17th-century
walled Dutch garden, which is two-tiered and filled with established flower beds and shrubs. Views stretch across the Vale of Wardour from here and the pavilion has a beautiful wisteria in flower during the late spring. The ‘aisle’ leads from the house to the walled garden, through the ornate garden gate to the pavilion. Receptions take place in the gardens, mainly the walled garden, which has a capacity for up to 200 loved ones either in the open air or under canvas in a marquee. There are smaller gardens for more low-key receptions, or they can all be included in one event. Ceremony licence? ❤ We love… the beautiful photographic backdrop that this house provides, especially when viewed from the upper tier in the walled garden. This quirky family-run hotel and exclusive-use wedding venue sits on five acres of land and boasts a pretty exterior with jasmine and clematis trailing the walls during summer. Inside, there are plenty of Instaworthy touches with its shabby chic styling and comfortable bedrooms accommodating up to 60 wedding guests with a hot buffet breakfast the following morning. There’s also a designer-inspired bridal suite decorated in black and gold. Ceremonies take place in a choice of three spaces and there’s flexible seated banqueting space for the wedding breakfast for up to 180 guests. There’s a dancefloor area for live music or a DJ and couples can make use of the decorative touches offered complimentary that include chair sashes, table centrepieces, flowers, table gems and napkins. They are invited to style the venue ahead of the wedding alongside the experienced team if they wish to do so. Outside is a photographer’s dream, with a magical secret garden propped with quirky pieces of furniture and atmospheric lighting, ideal for al fresco summer celebrations. There’s a Japanese pergola that acts as a wonderful backdrop for photos, as well as the pretty rose flower bed, and a children’s play area.
❤ We love…
the flexible wedding packages, free menu tasting sessions for couples who have booked a wedding at the venue and the exceptional customer service with couples and family members invited back for anniversaries and other special dates.

SPACEINTENSE, STROUD (HIRING THROUGHOUT GLOUCESTERSHIRE AND NEIGHBOURING COUNTIES) This marquee hire company offers various-sized structures plus furniture, flooring, drapes and accessories. The larger wedding tents available are traditional marquees ranging from a 30ft canvas style in a Victorian design to a 70ft circular Big Top tent. The team has introduced two 50ft marquees to complement these. One of these is round-ended and the other square and these structures are popular for weddings with more than 100 guests. (They all require the ground to be soft to be installed.)
❤ We love… that coloured Moroccan pouffes and coffee tables are also available to hire that look great scattered in a chill-out tent.

The interior can be lined with an ivory pleated fabric or a black or midnight-blue starcloth and separate spaces can be created for a wedding, for example, a bar, chill-out area with comfortable sofas and space for a dancefloor. ia and Connor met at university, six years before they got married. “Connor belonged to the football team and I was a cheerleader,” Ria tells us. “As we got to know one another, I was attracted to his ambitious nature.” The couple became engaged during a surprise proposal back in their university town where they first met. “Connor had planned a spa break,” Ria says. “He recreated our first date, on the anniversary of it! After dinner and drinks, we walked along the beach where he proposed - I wasn’t expecting it at all so it was a wonderful surprise.”
SETTING THE SCENE “We were attracted to De Vere Tortworth Court from the moment we arrived. The picturesque grounds, the grandeur of the elegant Orangery and the stylish décor offered everything that we were looking for,” Ria tells us. “Our theme for the day was classical elegance married with a modern flair and decorated with dusky pink and sage-green touches. We achieved this with details including silver candelabras draped with foliage and flowers as our centrepieces using different floral varieties including silver eucalyptus, gypsophila and blush astilbe.” The couple also styled their reception with a dusky pink tulle backdrop for photographs and a doughnut wall which proved very popular with their guests.
“The bridal party were transported in classic 1960s blue and green Jaguar cars while the groomsmen travelled in black Jaguar F-Pace vehicles.” - Ria and Connor

“Our three-tier semi-naked cake also went down a treat with everyone,” Ria tells us. “The flavours that we chose were strawberry and champagne, salted caramel and lemon and elderflower.” Ria and Connor named the tables after countries that they had visited together including Naples and Jamaica. “Our table plan was framed and the names were hand-written in elegant calligraphy,” Ria explains. “On the menu was four courses starting with ham hock terrine or tomato and basil soup followed by slow-roasted beef or sun-dried tomato risotto. Champagne granita was served as a palate cleanser followed by the delicious dessert which was a choice of chocolate tart or panna cotta, all provided by the talented kitchen team at the venue. We also gave our guests homemade truffles with our initials on as favours.”
LOOKING THE PART Ria chose a crepe fit-and-flare wedding dress by Justin Alexander. “I had always wanted a fitted style with a high neck and elegant details. I asked the bridal boutique to add pearls to the lace side panels to match the pearl detail on my veil which looked so pretty,” Ria tells us.“My something blue was a pair of satin heels which looked fantastic.” Connor wore a three-piece tweed suit with a dusky pink tie while the groomsmen wore variations of this with the same ties. Ria and Connor’s bridesmaids all wore matching chiffon wrap dresses with cap sleeves and beading. “They finished their look with a pair of silver block heels and a personalised embossed clutch bag for the evening reception,” Ria explains.
TIME TO CELEBRATE “We hired a DJ for our evening reception,” Ria tells us. “We love 90s R&B music and wanted a DJ that could get a crowd going. Everyone had a great time dancing and didn’t want the night to end. We even had the DJ join us on the dancefloor! We had so much fun and it was a real celebration of our families coming together, it was an amazing reception.” 25
“Connor was more nervous than I was. We were both so excited for the day but I had a relaxing morning whilst he ran around adding the finishing touches! We were so happy to finally see each other as I walked down the aisle” - Ria

Constance Farthing married Robert (Rob) Taylor on 22nd June 2019 at Cripps Barn in Gloucestershire.
onstance and Rob met at a restaurant in Ibiza on her birthday. “We immediately hit it off and even said to one another that evening that we would marry each other!” Constance tells us. “We got engaged six months later.” The proposal came as a complete surprise. “We had discussed getting married quite often so I was expecting Rob to propose at some point but he was confident that he could surprise me and kept telling me it was when I would least expect it,” Constance says. “We had enjoyed a few lovely meals and trips where I was certain he was going to pop the question, but it was after a dinner with my girlfriends that he surprised me. He got down on one knee as we were leaving and they all squealed with excitement! Rob kept to his word and did surprise me.” Here, Constance tells us all about their special day at Cripps Barn styled with a fun, floral theme. 29

“We had so much fun - the entire day was filled with love and afterwards, all of our friends and family kept saying how it was the best wedding that they had ever been to because we focused on it being a great day for everyone, whatever their age.” - Constance and Rob.
I chose a hair comb to be my something borrow ed that came from my maid-of-h onour.
Our groomsmen, and Rob, all wore navy suits teamed with sky-blue waistcoats, bow ties and pocket squares and brown shoes. Rob had a slightly different bow tie from the rest of the groomsmen to stand out.

I wore a gown called Masha by Enzoani. As soon as I tried it on, I knew she was the one. It featured a low back, lace detail and had a statement train. A big bonus was that it felt comfortable! I knew that I would be doing plenty of dancing so I had to keep that in mind.
Our flowergirls looked so pretty in their dresses and sashes which matched the adult bridesmaid dress colours belonging to their mums.
Because we wanted floral chandelie rs suspended from the ceiling of the barn, we commissioned Beth from Go Wild Flowers to create them. I wanted large colourfu l blooms and have always adored hydrangeas so I wanted thes e included. As we were having a colourful wedding theme, we chos e big and bold varieties with plenty of rustic-style foliage to suit the rustic feel of the barn.

atie and Charlie met when they were both studying chemistry at the University of Strathclyde Glasgow. “The first time we saw one another was in a laboratory during a practical class,” Katie tells us. “We didn’t talk until the fourth year when we did a placement abroad and both ended up working and living in the Netherlands. We were friends for a while before we started dating and visited different places together, always having plenty of fun. Our personalities clicked and we made each other laugh,” she says. “I was attracted to Charlie’s confidence and he liked my smile and laugh.” The couple became engaged during a festive proposal which happened to be on Katie’s parents’ 25th wedding anniversary. “We hadn’t spent Christmas Day together so decided to celebrate a few days later,” Katie explains. “We cooked a three-course dinner and I asked Charlie to help me with some gravy but he refused! I thought it was a bit strange and it turns out that he didn’t want to get out of the chair because he was hiding my engagement ring. He proposed at the end of the meal which was a wonderful surprise and I was in shock!”
SETTING THE SCENE The couple had planned on getting married abroad in a small, intimate celebration in Lombok, Indonesia. “We had booked the flights and venue and

even had a wedding planner helping us arrange everything when we went into lockdown in March 2020,” Katie says. “We waited until July before postponing the wedding but decided that we still wanted to get wed on 1st October 2020 as planned, so we started searching for small wedding venues in the UK and had less than three months to sort everything out. Then, two days before our wedding, there was an announcement limiting guest numbers to just 15.” The couple chose their reception venue because it was close to the register office plus it’s set in beautiful countryside. “The grounds provided plenty of picturesque photo opportunities,” Katie tells us. “The hotel is home to a conservatory showcasing spectacular views of the grounds and also a large ballroom which meant that we could adhere to the social distancing measures with ease. They also offered a delicious wedding breakfast menu and allowed us to customise the dishes. We offered each guest three choices with vegan and vegetarian options.” The couple chose a pink colour theme for their reception. “I designed small flower arrangements to place in the centre of each table surrounded by candles,” Katie says. “We didn’t need a table plan because everyone sat in their households and we gifted each guest chocolate truffles in handcrafted boxes featuring thank you stickers that we designed. Our place name cards featured the same pattern as the favour boxes so that everything matched.” Katie and Charlie opted for a small pink iced cake with alternating layers of pink and white sponge and a raspberry filling. “I added a cake topper and some flowers,” Katie explains. “On the subject of flowers, I designed my bouquet. I purchased some flowers and used them to make a beautiful bespoke bouquet which featured the exact varieties what I wanted.” The couple also had pale pink bows decorating their chair covers, props for the photo booth and small bottles of hand sanitiser as a reference to getting married during a pandemic. “We also gave pink face coverings that were individually wrapped and sealed with the same sticker design as those on our favours which said spread love, not germs. Our packets of pink confetti featured stickers saying throw me,” Katie explains.
LOOKING THE PART Katie wore a sheath gown with an embroidered lace top and train and a low back. “The shape suited my figure and I teamed it with a single-tier, chapellength veil and a small crystal hair comb,” she tells us. “I had purchased my dress for our original wedding abroad and decided to wear it when our plans changed. Charlie chose a navy three-piece suit teamed with a white shirt and pale pink tie and pink buttonhole.”
TIME TO CELEBRATE “We weren’t allowed to have live entertainment at our wedding so we had music playing in the background and our first dance provided the entertainment because we are not good dancers so it made our loved ones laugh!” Katie says. 37

VENUE STYLING
Fi Passey from Corky and Prince wedding florist based in Kempsford, Gloucestershire, tells us all about the trends for big-day blooms this season. She says, “Floral towers or columns are becoming increasingly popular with couples looking for a versatile alternative to a floral arch. These designs can be placed at the entrance to the venue (as seen here at stunning Gloucestershire establishment, Elmore Court, www.elmorecourt.com) or as a backdrop for the ceremony. Unlike a floral arch, these arrangements can be moved to the wedding reception, after the ceremony, to create a focal point or frame the top table.” Fi continues, “Flower meadows are fantastic design options for the aisle – either in a church or ceremony venue. These floor-based designs can be created in a range of styles - from natural wildflower-inspired shapes to more classic and elegant ones. After the ceremony, these blooms look beautiful placed on the floor in front of the top table or around the cake and card tables.”

BOTANICAL THEME Sandra Trusty from Fabulous Functions UK is a wedding designer and venue stylist based in Swindon, Wiltshire. She tells us, “We have teamed up with wedding venue Wrag Barn in Swindon (www.wragbarn.com) and Wiltshire-based photographer Steffen Milsom (www.steffenmilsomphotography.co.uk) to create a beautifully intimate setting for an outdoor wedding ceremony and an indoor wedding breakfast, sure to be very popular for micro weddings this summer. These ideas are being recreated for some of our couples who are now able to go ahead with their wedding plans. The arches are proving very popular and can be customised for each different theme.” Sandra continues, “The botanical theme is trending at the moment with couples wishing to bring the outdoors in. We achieve this fashionable look by creating an overhead canopy using a variety of lush foliage and then echoing the theme in the table garland for the centrepiece.”

WONDERFUL WORLD OF WEDDINGS
We’re considering having a small wedding, even though restrictions have lifted. Do you think this is the new normal? Meet the expert: Mark Slater is the suit buyer at Slater Menswear, a gentlemen’s outfitters offering a large selection of men’s wedding suits and accessories with a store on The Promenade in Cheltenham. Mark says: Slater Menswear has researched what weddings this summer and beyond may look like now and some of the key findings were that there has been a 62% increase in Google searches for small weddings since last year, a 15% increase in searches for small wedding ideas and a 6% increase in searches for intimate wedding venues. There was also a 41% increase in sales of suits after the roadmap out of lockdown was announced. Weddings taking place this year, and during 2022, will see smaller ceremonies remaining very popular. Rather than facing the possibility of
BACK ON TRACK
We want to host a joint hen and stag day that’s fun for our adventure-loving friends – what can you suggest? Meet the expert: Dan Jones is the operations manager at Track Days offering truly memorable driving experiences in cars and on bikes at venues across the UK including in Upper Castle Combe in Chippenham, Wiltshire. Dan says: Bookings for stag and hen driving experiences have doubled recently (compared to when the country emerged from the first lockdown) as lovers head back to the track. Why not consider an extreme driving package with a supercar experience and get behind the wheel of a Ferrari,
having to un-invite guests or losing deposits if any more future guidelines are put in place, more couples are investigating the possibility of hosting an intimate ceremony. Whether it’s a way to save money on their budget or to simply avoid disappointment, the data suggests that more people are opting to have a smaller ceremony than in previous years. Intimate wedding venues are here to stay. It’s not just the number of guests that we’ve seen shrink; more couples are choosing smaller venues, too. Of the 71% of British couples that are rescheduling their nuptials currently, one in five are opting for a micro wedding with 20 guests or fewer. This is partly due to a rising trend of ‘sequel weddings’ which means couples can officially tie the knot with a small handful of loved ones and then host a bigger bash at a later date to invite those who couldn’t originally attend. Suit sales soar! Many couples believe that this is the year for their big day, small or large, and it’s a time to get suited and booted. Suit sales at Slater Menswear are increasing every day with more grooms feeling optimistic about their upcoming nuptials. 01242 224 494 | www.slaters.co.uk | www.facebook.com/ Slatermenswear | www.instagram.com/slatermenswear Lamborghini or McLaren? The Double Supercar Blast for two is one of the most popular experiences for stags and hens, as couples look to spend their last moments of single life not apart, but together. The Extreme Dodgems package and the Group Kart Grand Prix packages are both proving hugely popular. There’s also rallying, drifting, off-roading and much more to suit all age groups. As everyday life is returning to normal, including the resumption of weddings, stags and hens are, once again, choosing fun ways to party before the big day and often this is together as a group. YOU GLOW, GIRL
EXPERT ADVICE
I’m not a teenager anymore, why am I still breaking out in spots? Meet the expert: Anna Kremerov is the owner of Anna Medical Aesthetics located in Swindon offering non-surgical cosmetic treatments. Anna says: With June being Acne Awareness Month, this is a great opportunity to highlight the issue of adult acne that’s suffered by many, including brides-to-be. Although acne can be more common in the teenage years, it’s important to note that anyone, at any age can suffer. It can be a frustrating and debilitating condition and can not only have an impact physically but mentally too. It’s a common condition that many of us will experience in our lives. According to the NHS, around 95% of people aged 11-30 are affected by acne at some point. There are many different types of acne breakouts, such as blackheads, whiteheads, papules and pustules amongst others. Acne scarring can be a frustrating reminder of the acne that might now be under control – there are treatment options available for this. Hormones, stress, genetics and medication can contribute to acne and there are different treatment options available that can control and reduce acne symptoms like the use of medical-grade skincare products at home. It’s important to note that maintenance of the skin and keeping acne at bay is a life-long commitment and does require some work. As much as the treatments that you have and the products that you use are the most important elements to consider when controlling acne, there are a few other factors to keep in mind: •CHANGE YOUR PILLOWCASE REGULARLY When was the last time you changed your bedsheets? According to a 1000-person survey by bedding reviewer Mattress Advisor, the majority of people change their sheets every 24.4 days. That’s more than three weeks of sleeping in the same sheets! Would you wear the same clothing for this
length of time? If you’re suffering from breakouts, it might be worth ensuring your face is being placed on a clean pillow, not one that contains bacteria. •TAKE YOUR MAKE-UP OFF BEFORE BED - PROPERLY! There’s no point investing in your medical-grade skincare products if you’re not going to use them properly. Take your time when cleansing, maybe even treat yourself to a double cleanse, and don’t rely on face wipes. •BE MINDFUL WHEN PICKING HAIR PRODUCTS Ensure that you rinse your hair conditioner from your face (and try to avoid getting it on your face in the first place) because it’s designed to seal the hair and make it appear super-shiny and smooth. That’s great news for your locks but not such great news for your skin because conditioners can block pores and lead to breakouts. Although acne can feel like the most frustrating condition, there’s nothing to be ashamed about. Acne doesn’t mean that you don’t wash your face properly. It’s a recognised skin condition that requires treatment and commitment to achieve the clear skin you’ve always dreamt of. 01793 959 010 | www.annamedical.co.uk www.facebook.com/annamedicalaesthetics www.instagram.com/anna_medical_aesthetics
SKIN DEEP
My hubby-to-be and I want to start an at-home beauty and grooming regime ahead of our wedding later this year. Can you help? Meet the expert: Paula Pokora is the managing director of Nanshy, a leading Cheltenham-based cruelty-free and vegan skincare brand that’s expanding its range of products to bring salon-quality treatments to the home. Paula says: The team at Nanshy, which is known for its exquisite selection of make-up brushes, bags, sponges, and brush care items is launching a new line of skincare tools for both women and men that are easy to use in the comfort of your own home, to look after your skin with no salon visit required. Because the past year has seen us all resort to at-home beauty treatments, the demand for at-home skincare is growing at a rapid pace. These new skincare tools address underlying problems to create smooth, healthy, and radiant-looking skin while maximising the impact of day-to-day self-care routines, something that couples can enjoy together. The new line is being launched with two introductory products that can produce professional, salon-quality results without needles or chemicals, perfect for a pre-wedding pick-me-up after lockdown. The first product launched in the new collection is the face roller, a metal device that’s rolled across the skin to strengthen underlying tissue and muscles, working to sculpt the cheekbones, jawline, and brows. It also promotes oxygen distribution to help brighten the skin and stimulates drainage to minimise puffiness. The second exciting new product is the ‘gua sha’ inspired by ancient Chinese massage therapy tools. Helping to relieve tension in the face, improve blood circulation, and promote drainage, it can soften fine lines and wrinkles to minimise early signs of ageing. Mandatory mask-wearing is also sparking new interest in skincare. Long-term mask usage is believed to be closely connected to spots around the mouth and nose caused by contact dermatitis and wearers are naturally seeking effective solutions to improve the appearance of their skin. Recent research shows that, during the pandemic, make-up sales have dropped by around 55% while skincare sales have risen 300% year on year. 08000 60 70 79 | https://nanshy.com | www.facebook.com/NanshyOfficial | www.instagram.com/nanshyofficial 57
Ring-a-ding-ding County Wedding Magazines editor Melissa Barker shares her wedding planning journey
L
ike many of you, I’m currently trying to plan my wedding during a global pandemic – there’s a sentence I never thought I’d say! My partner Dave and I have been together just under three years, and we’d talked about getting engaged a few times over the course of our relationship. My work colleagues were also giddy every time we went away thinking he would propose; after a fantastic trip to the Northern Lights and coming back ring-free none of us had any idea when it would be – but I kind of liked it that way! He had planned to propose last July but, due to COVID-19, his dreams of a romantic trip abroad were quashed. He had several backup
plans, all of which were ruined by lockdowns and restrictions, so in the end, he asked me in front of my family (virtually) on Christmas Day. It was a lovely moment, and we were both really excited and couldn’t wait to start planning.
PLAN, PLAN, PLAN! Having worked in the wedding industry for the last few years, I had a rough idea of where to start with the planning process. I’m highly organised and a big fan of making lists – there isn’t a folder in our house that isn’t colour coded, so the first thing I did was purchase a wedding planner to keep track of everything. I also looked through local wedding magazines, made a Pinterest board and joined a few Facebook groups, which are full of community spirit. Next, Dave and I sat down and made a list of the people we wanted to come to our wedding. A great rule we followed was to only invite people that we’d spoken to in the last six months. It might sound harsh, but we both have large extended families and were concerned it may quickly turn in to a big list of people who we don’t really know! We narrowed it down to 40 day guests and an additional 40 in the evening. Once we had the list, we were able to start focusing on the dreaded budget, which has been one of my least favourite parts of the process so far. We looked through guides online and overbudgeted for everything to ensure we don’t have any nasty surprises further down the line.
THE PERFECT SETTING After we had decided on our rough numbers and budget, we began the exciting part – looking 58
at venues. Due to the restrictions, this was a bit unconventional, with many properties only offering virtual viewings or only communicating via e-mail. Luckily, we managed to view our favourite venue in person the day before lockdown 3.0 began, and I’m so glad we did! We fell in love with it right away, and the staff have been amazing throughout the initial planning process. They were more than happy to answer all of our questions, in particular the dreaded COVID-19 related ones, and quickly set our minds at ease. It was exactly what we wanted with a gorgeous outdoor ceremony space and a barn area for the reception, perfect for our desired summer nuptials. We’re so excited to visit again, and for my mum, who is in full planning mode, to finally see it. Based on our venue’s advice we reserved the date, checked that our local council had a registrar available and once that was confirmed, we paid our deposit – yipee! I’ve since seen online a few brides who have booked their wedding but have been unable to secure a celebrant or registrar for their date. I’m thankful we followed the advice and checked first, it’s meant we have had a drama-free start to the wedding planning and are excited to see our plans unfold! Next issue, hear all about our plans for the food – my favourite bit – and finding our photographer!

BRIDE’S DIARY
Dave and I want quite a simple cake that’s full of delicious chocolate – yum! I love the idea of incorporating log slices throughout the day to add a rustic touch.
Here’s my moodboard to help give you heaps of inspiration.
I adore macrame and have been learning how to do it in my spare time. We’re planning to make an arch to place behind us when we get married.
Our plan is to hire long wooden tables mixed with a few round versions.
Hanging lights are a popular trend that we’re thinking of using in our venue’s grounds.
We’ve decided on a sage green and blush pink colour scheme and want to incorporate lots of foliage.
Gold or rose gold cutlery is a must have!
This elegant envelope is exactly what we’re looking for. 59

Kelly Andrews talks to bridal hair specialist Heather Dapaah about her top big-day looks
76
INTERVIEW If you could choose any celebrity to work with, who would it be and why? Can I give two? Michelle Obama and Dina Asher-Smith. They’re very different but both stand for excellence and class. They’re extremely down-to-earth, hard workers and I really admire them both. What’s hot in bridal hair at the moment? Definitely the more relaxed hair styles that look romantic and sultry. So, it makes sense that romantic waves, maybe with the sides pinned up, are popular at the minute.
A
ward-winning hair stylist Heather Dapaah opened her London-based salon, Her Definition at 23 and since then doors have continued to open on her career, working on TV sets, music videos, and getting celebs eventready. To name drop a few, Heather’s clients have included reality stars Kaz Crossley and Priscilla Anyabu, athlete Perri Shakes-Drayton, and British RnB artists Ray BLK, Miraa May and Dolapo. She’s known for her signature Hollywood waves and says, “I love to help women understand their true hair type and learn how they can achieve their hair goals.” Heather is highly sought after for her wide range of hair knowledge, having worked with all hair types and textures, so CWM beauty editor Kelly Andrews was delighted that she was able to take some time out to chat to her about their mutual passion – bridal hair.
I would say, start with the neckline of your desired dress because that will determine how much space we have to play around with. Obviously, face shape is really important too. In general, most people know what hairstyles suit them best, but you want to push the boundaries a little and come out of your comfort zone for your big day. Finally, the style of dress: whether it’s A-line, ballgown, fishtail and so on. Ultimately, you want a well-balanced silhouette. So, if you have an A-line that’s quite slim at the bottom, you can get away with bigger, wow-factor up dos.
If you could impart just one piece of essential advice to brides about their big-day, what would it be? Please take in the moment. Stop thinking of how people will view the day, the reception or indeed, you. Just think of the blessing of marriage and take in every moment.
What’s the biggest pitfall brides should take care to avoid when it comes to their wedding hair? Make sure you have a trial with the hair stylist if you haven’t already seen them do the look you have in mind. It’s also important to practice your wedding hair style as what you think you want might not look or feel right for your day.
Are there any red-carpet celebrity styles that you’ve created that would translate to a bridal look? I’d have to say Gatsby-themed Hollywood waves and vintage waves. No matter what the latest hair trend is you always see these looks on red carpets everywhere.
How can brides ensure their hair is in its best condition for the big day? Do exactly as your wedding hair stylist recommends! This is the only time I would say don’t listen to your hairdresser, because your bridal specialist knows and understands the look you have envisioned together.
What hair products or tools can’t you live without? For bridal hairstyling it’s my one-inch curling tong, liquid hairspray by L’Oréal Studio Line, hair pins and my tail comb.
What’s next for you? Well, after the detrimental effects of this pandemic, it’s definitely to get back to my beloved brides. I’d love to work on some celebrity weddings too.
How can a bride set about deciding the right style for her on her wedding day?
For further information, check out www.herdefinition.co.uk
What’s your main ethos when it comes to creating wedding hair? No matter what the look is I always try to create statement hair that’s timeless, classy and stylish. What’s your signature look? My clients always want my signature Hollywood waves, which instantly add glamour and volume to lustrous locks. It’s a timeless look that’s more than a trend, enhancing any wedding style. What’s been the highlight of your career so far? I’ve been super fortunate in my career so far, especially on a global-scale as I get to meet lots of people. I’d have to say the highlight is the recognition I’ve received for the elegance of my bridal hairstyling. 77
Wedding wellness
The last year’s been tough – take some time out for self-care and focus on your wellbeing #HYDRATIONISKEY
We all know by now that hydration is imperative to good health and a key part of any beauty regime. And if you haven’t been told by now that it’s the key to your wedding skin prep – you will be! However, switching that second cup of coffee for tap water isn’t necessarily the easiest change to swallow. What if we told you there was something that hydrated you faster than ordinary water, tasted better and provided an energising alternative to that acidic cuppa? It’s time to say “hello” to alkaline water. Actiph Water is the UK’s first alkaline ionised water. Purified from Shropshire with added electrolytes and minerals it hydrates you fast and helps to give your skin it’s glow back. Find out more at https://actiphwater.com
#FRESHSTART Bored with hot water and lemon in the morning? Then maybe it’s time for a Fresh Start with Pukka’s newest caffeine-free organic tea. Expertly blended with sustainablysourced organic herbs, delicious zesty organic lemon and warming aromatic fennel seeds, it gently awakens your body and mind to a new day helping you feel your brightest self. What’s more, this stimulating yet soothing blend helps to strengthen the digestive system to support optimum metabolism. Priced at £2.99 for 20 sachets, it’s available at https://uk.pukkaherbs.com, and from health food stores and supermarkets across the land.

Find it at www.espaskincare.com 78
#ThePowerOfSleep Given the trials of the last year, looking after ourselves at home has never been more important, so to help with this endeavour, The Somerset Toiletry Company has created a collection of gifts to promote self-care and wellness and we’re all about its Sleepeze range. After all, the importance of sleep when it comes to ultimate wellbeing can never be underestimated, it’s crucial for body and mind. The Sleepeze Calming Gift Set, £9.95, includes a silky eye mask, pillow mist, and essential oil-based rollerball. Then there’s the Calming Sleep Stones, £11.95 – 200g of volcanic rock infused with essential oils to enhance your night-time routine. Finally, in the collection is the Calming Bath Salts, £4.95, perfect for washing away that build up of daily stress before bed. Treat yourself at www.thesomersettoiletryco.co.uk
#SCREENEYES Modern life means we spend more and more time on our devices and computers, and since you blink six to eight times less when you look at a screen, it’s no wonder that many of us are ending the day with tired and heavy eyes. Dry eye syndrome is a condition that affects around 80 per cent of us – a sobering thought considering screen use has increased by 187 per cent over the last three lockdowns. To combat this problem, modern eyecare brand Peep Club has launched its new Relief Eye Spray, £15, which hydrates eyes from the inside out with a clever combo of vegan-friendly, organic and wild-harvested ingredients. It’s suitable for even the most sensitive of peepers, as well as being safe for contact lens wearers and can be used over make-up. Check out www.peepclub.com

Q&A
These talented hair and make-up artists reveal all about summer weddings Now that restrictions have lifted and we can start putting the finishing touches to our late-summer wedding, please can you tell me what colours and ideas are trending for bridal make-up?
COLOUR-POP
NATURAL BEAUTY
Meet the expert: Caley Soul is a professional bridal and semi-permanent make-up artist based in the Cotswolds specialising in bridal and wedding party make-up.
Meet the expert: Leanne Lishman is the face behind Cotswold Wedding Hair & Makeup based in Cheltenham, dedicated to creating bridal hairstyles and make-up looks for brides and their wedding party.
Caley says: We’re all super excited to get back to doing what we love and for me, that’s helping brides look their best on the biggest day of their lives. It has been a tough time and a bit of a whirlwind for couples who were in the middle of their wedding planning. A classic beauty look that never goes out of style is a pop of colour with the bold red lip returning for spring/summer 2021 celebrations. This looks stunning with the most popular request so far this year for bridal make-up which is the ‘minimal effort’ look - a natural glow and glossy skin. This takes a bit of preparation before the big day to achieve but it’s well worth the effort because it looks gorgeous.
Leanne says: For many, life in lockdown seems to have reprogrammed how we feel about our skincare and make-up habits with many women embracing their natural selves. With months of wearing very little make-up and focusing on good skincare, we have fallen in love with our natural beauty. Bearing this in mind, many brides now prefer the fresh natural look allowing their skin to shine through, achieved by using soft natural colours and keeping foundation to a minimum, opting for light coverage. Pink and peach shades of blush keep the focus on the cheeks for a healthy glow and eye make-up is kept minimal with a subtle touch of colour using natural shades. Barely-there tones and soft-pink hues are the go-to options for lipstick for brides wanting a more natural feel, and a tinted lip balm is a great way to add a subtle pop of colour. I also need some bridal style ideas for my long hair. Bridal hair has also embraced the natural look with many of us now loving our natural curls and waves. For many, the half-up style is still popular working with the hair’s natural texture or by adding some soft, loose waves. Rather than the ultra-smooth styles that we have seen in previous years, many brides want their hair to reflect how they look daily, a recognisable yet more polished version of themselves. If you’re wanting to wear your hair up, it can still look natural with flowing loose strands left around the face. Hair accessories nod to it being a very special occasion with jewelled or pearl designs adding a touch of glamour.

THE
WARDROBE WALLED GARDEN WEDDINGS
A newly launched wedding and events venue in the heart of historic Salisbury.
A marquee will be positioned in the beautiful garden (your choice of style) and we can accommodate up to 150 guests. For smaller numbers a reduced sized marquee is available.
The Wardrobe is a secret hideaway located to the rear of the Rifleman’s Museum. It is situated in the tranquil setting of the cathedral close and the wonderful garden leads down to the banks of the river Avon. With the rolling countryside beyond, it is difficult to imagine a better location within the Salisbury city limits for any outdoor event, be it a wedding reception, celebration or garden party.
The on-site caterer is the award-winning Vanilla Catering & Events. Vanilla’s key ethics are attention to customer service and the use of top quality local ingredients. These result in bright, modern food styles presented with attention to detail in an unfussy yet friendly manner. A bespoke menu is created for each client and a complimentary wedding planner is provided to run your special day. An interesting fact: did you know why we are we called The Wardrobe? The original building on the site was constructed in 1254. It was rebuilt in the 15th century and was used to store the robes of the Bishop of Salisbury; hence it was known as the “Bishop’s Wardrobe” or “The Wardrobe”!
The walled garden is totally enclosed and private covering over half an acre. It also has numerous specimen trees including one of the finest copper beach trees in Wiltshire. The walled garden can be privately hired for your wedding, party or event.
