ell, 2020 was a year we won’t forget in a hurry! I know we’re not out of the woods, but I feel like as we wake up to a new year, blinking into the January light, there’s renewed hope and excitement for the future. I bought myself two new outfits for weddings I had in the diary last year, which have been left hanging in the wardrobe, and I’m quietly confident I’ll get to pull them out in 2021! So how are you finding wedding planning during a pandemic? I know it’s been a tough ride, but I hope the fact that Your London Wedding has been here, celebrating the best of the capital’s wedding industry, has helped. We will always bang the drum for local indie businesses, they’ve weathered the storm and supported their couples throughout, now’s the time to support them in return. For those of you who are newly engaged over the festive period and Valentine’s Day – congratulations and welcome! We’ve got an epic issue for you, including venue styling tips for those whose plans have changed dramatically (page 55), a round-up of beautiful venues in East London (page 19), and styled shoots from the most talented wedding creatives in the city (pages 47 and 51). We love to showcase reader weddings (from page 30), so get in touch if you’d like to see yours featured!

GOOD THINGS IN SMALL PACKAGES
www.joanjellett.com
2020 was a year of shattered plans for tens of thousands of to-be-weds. However, a recent survey has shown that 95% of couples have decided to throw a micro-wedding or reschedule, rather than cancel their big day. Andaz London Liverpool Street is helping couples to do just that. This historic hotel, with its mix of grand Victorian and contemporary interiors, has adapted to the situation and is pledging to offer couples an unforgettable day with an innovate and cost-effective offering. With 15 event spaces to choose from, couples can take advantage of the venue’s new £3,000 micro-package for 15 guests. Parties will enjoy bubbles, wine, canapés, a three-course meal and table stationery, as well as one large suite and two double bedrooms for the wedding night. In addition, couples booking before the end of March 2021 will receive a 15% discount on a future large wedding party, which can be booked up until December 2022. Floral fancy
With events disrupted for the best part of a year, Toby B Roberts of TBR Floral Design has devoted all his energy to taking the business to the next level. The London florist has just launched a new website, which took more than a year to create, to showcase all the services it provides. “We’ve also started offering floral workshops for the first time in our 19-year history to teach you how to decorate your home with floral fabulousness,” Toby says. “However, the most important project we’ve been working on is creating small, beautifully styled, socially distanced weddings. Although times are hard, our couples still want to marry.” We’re loving that the company has also branched out into designing and creating landscaped gardens, perfect for if you decide on a small celebration at home and want your garden to have the wow factor. PARISIAN-CHIC Super-stylish Parisian bridal boutique Le Dressing Club has opened its new boutique in the heart of Earl’s Court. Now the French capital’s leading designer wedding dress outlet, the boutique was established in 2013 when owner Victoire identified a gap in the market when planning her own wedding for affordable luxury wedding dresses. Based on the success of the concept in France, the company’s Earl’s Court boutique sells both new dresses from French designers at 60% discount, as well as second-hand luxury dresses for those who want to make a more sustainable purchase. LONDON LOVE STORIES New research has revealed that, despite the pandemic, London is the number one place to pop the question in the UK. The study, by family-owned jeweller Beaverbrooks, analysed more than 10,000 proposal hashtags to find that the capital had almost half (47%) of the proposals. “It’s no surprise that London takes the top spot, with a whopping 47% of engagement ring selfies taken there,” says Lorna Haddon, head of diamond rings and jewellery at Beaverbrooks. “With so many great sights and famous backdrops to choose from, it’s no wonder Londoners and tourists alike love proposing in the city.” Check out www.beaverbrooks.co.uk

VIRTUALLY PERFECT
A royal affair
With restrictions on weddings meaning guest lists have had to be slashed, couples are turning to technology to help them share their big day with family and friends. Goodenough College in Bloomsbury has been helping brides and grooms live-stream their special day. “Two of our alum were married at the college under the restrictions,” says Sabrina Beck, event and sales manager. “It was lovely that they chose to mark their special day at the college where they met. They live-streamed their ceremony, enabling them to share the event with loved ones who were unable to join.” Another option the venue is recommending to couples is having an intimate ceremony in 2021, followed by a larger celebration with extended friends and family on their first anniversary in 2022. “This way you get the best of both worlds,” Sabrina explains. “We’re currently offering a discount on our venue hire fee to Your London Wedding readers who would like to explore this option.” Head to the website for more information www.events.goodenough.ac.uk
Couples celebrating their big day in one of the capital’s most elegant settings, The Lanesborough, can get bridal guidance from world-renowned designer Bruce Oldfield. Overlooking Hyde Park Corner, adjacent to the grounds of Buckingham Palace, the iconic hotel has a host of breathtaking wedding spaces. The experience, launched in partnership with Bruce Oldfield OBE, sees brides enjoy a luxurious champagne afternoon tea at The Lanesborough, before being whisked away to Bruce’s elegant atelier by chauffeur. Upon arrival, brides-to-be will discuss ideas with the designer, before he creates a bespoke sketch of their dream dress. The Lanesborough’s wedding planner will also be on hand from the moment preparations start to offer expert advice to create the couple’s perfect day. Of course a dream wedding has to have a dream ending, which can be found in one of the hotel’s incredible suites. The newlyweds can luxuriate in the grandeur of one of the Regency-style rooms, and call on the services of their personal butler. The Bruce Oldfield Experience starts from £250 and can be added to The Lanesborough’s Royal Affair wedding package. For more information, head to www.oetkercollection.com 11

THE NED 020 3828 2000 | www.thened.com WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT? Sitting in the heart of the City, surrounded by 17th-century spires and modern glass towers, this Grade I listed hotel has nine restaurants, 250 bedrooms, a range of grooming services and a member’s club. Set in the former Midland Bank building, The Ned was designed by Sir Edwin ‘Ned’ Lutyens in 1924, whose style blended classical and modern elements. The faded glamour of a 1930s transatlantic ocean liner was the starting point for the interiors, with designers also trawling through the bank’s archives to find out what the building looked like in its heyday.
LET’S CELEBRATE! Weddings at The Ned take place on the historic sixth floor. Its six rooms and two outdoor terraces with incredible city vistas can host parties of up to 200 people. Couples can hire the whole floor exclusively for groups of 80 guests and more. Most ceremonies take place in The Saloon, which is dominated by an 18th-century chandelier, an ornate chalk frieze and a restored parquet floor. Receptions are often held in The Tapestry Room for large parties of up to 140 loved ones, while more intimate celebrations are suited to the RWB Room. WE LOVE… For weddings upwards of 50 guests, the venue offers free menu tastings and an overnight stay for the newlyweds. Some packages include free use of the Princes Dome on the roof for a delicious breakfast with guests the next day.

abienne and Tony both work in the classical music business – Fabienne as a marketing professional and Tony as a percussionist. It was while they were both working for the world-famous London Symphony Orchestra that they met. And yes, it was at the work Christmas party! Fabienne tells us, “I remember looking across the room and thinking, ‘Who is that?’ I was so drawn to his good looks and magnetism. Tony says he was taken by my big smile, flirtatious nature and intelligence.” A few years later, Tony was planning to pop the question, although it would seem he’s not the best at keeping secrets. “We went on a short getaway to Bavaria,” Fabienne says. “I’d seen it coming a mile off; I even warned my girlfriends that I might return engaged!” That didn’t spoil Tony’s wonderful proposal though. On a hot afternoon, they climbed to a ruined hilltop castle where Tony got down on one knee. “One sweet detail I hadn’t seen coming was that he’d arranged to have champagne put on ice back at the hotel,” Fabienne smiles. “When we walked into the reception, the staff cheered and fetched the bottle!” The couple set the date for 21st September, 2019, and there was never any doubt that they would tie the knot in their home city. We caught up with Fabienne to find out more…
THE PERFECT SETTING Proud to call the Blackheath and Greenwich area home, Fabienne and Tony were keen to get married as local as possible. “When researching London registry offices, I happened upon Woolwich Town Hall,” Fabienne tells us. “It was simply magnificent and only a ten-minute bus ride from our home. It was very important to us that the ceremony space had gravitas to reflect the seriousness of our commitment; its massive domed interior, stained-glass windows, marble floor and FABIENNE’S WORDS OF sweeping staircase exuded WEDDED WISDOM: “MAKE class, grandeur and history.” When it came to their SURE SOMEONE FILMS YOUR reception, the venue couldn’t have been more CEREMONY, EVEN IF IT’S JUST different. “Craft London is a DISCREETLY ON THEIR PHONE. contemporary restaurant,” Fabienne explains. “It has YOU’LL BE SO GLAD YOU floor-to-ceiling windows, a hip cocktail bar and a HAVE IT TO WATCH BACK.” London view to die for, with the iconic O2 next door and the lights of Canary Wharf glittering in the distance. We got a real kick out of juxtaposing tradition and modernity.”
PUTTING THEIR STAMP ON The day was a love letter to London, not just in location, but in touches throughout. “We decided it would be fun to pay tribute to our home city,” the bride says. “I got ready at InterContinental London - The O2, which had glorious views over the Thames. I arrived at the Town Hall in a black cab – a white one, no less – and our order-of-service featured specially commissioned illustrations of the London skyline.” The twelve tables were named after places the pair had lived in London, from Archway and Maida Vale to Brixton and Lewisham. When it came to decor, Fabienne and Tony felt that less was more, letting the venues speak for themselves. “The settings were stunning as they were,” Fabienne explains. “We basically just added some balloons and bubbles! Our favours were wildflower seeds, reflecting our love of nature, and we put hundreds of blank romance-themed postcards on the tables so guests could write us messages.” They also had the great idea of asking their guests to contribute date ideas into a jar. “We now have a list of more than 100 things to do – as soon as restrictions are lifted!” Fabienne says. 31

REAL WEDDINGS Hosting their reception at Craft, a high-end restaurant, the pair knew their catering was in safe hands. They also had a delicious chocolate cake with a white chocolate exterior. “Why have fruitcake when you can have chocolate?” Fabienne laughs.
AISLE STYLE Never much of a girly girl, princess dresses and long trains were never going to be right for Fabienne. “I found myself drawn to an aesthetic of elegance and glamour – I’m half French so maybe that’s why!” She says. “My look had a vintage feel, from the slim-line Monsoon dress and Hollywood-wave hairdo to the family jewellery dating back to the 1940s.” When selecting a bouquet, Fabienne wanted bold colours and geometric shapes. She let the talented Harley from Harley’s Flowers come up with a unique arrangement, which included Singapore orchids, bright pink calla lilies and tropical foliage. “I had a wonderful time getting ready with my closest friends in the morning,” Fabienne remembers. “Hannah Monk Hair and Make-up did a stunning job on my look and she was a wonderful person to spend the morning with – calm, friendly and fun.”
IT’S A CELEBRATION As Tony plays with the world’s best orchestras, finding amazing musicians to perform live was never going to be a problem. “For the ceremony, we had a group of Tony’s colleagues – a string quartet and a harp – along with our close friend, Sandy, who is a professional soprano,” Fabienne says. “We knew a soprano voice would soar in the large resonant acoustic, and it brought tears to everyone’s eyes. The Woolwich staff told us that they had never heard such beautiful music in the space, and many of our guests, who weren’t classical buffs, were clamouring to thank and praise Sandy afterwards.” The newlyweds had a surprise up their sleeve for guests, with an after-dinner performance from their friend William, who is an actor and international cabaret artist. “William is a showman in the truest sense of the word,” Fabienne says. “He had the whole room in the palm of his hand! It really meant a lot to us to be able to showcase our enormously talented friends.”
MEMORABLE MOMENTS We just had to ask the newlyweds what their favourite memories of the day were. Tony says, “We pre-booked two coaches to take our 80 guests from the Town Hall to the restaurant. During this time, we snuck off to have photos taken by the river. It was an impromptu decision; our photographers, Jeff and Sarah, encouraged us as the weather was so outstanding. It ended up being one of our favourite moments of the day. We had the chance to revel in the sunshine and glow of being newlyweds. The radiance shines through in these photos and we adore their urban nature.” Fabienne was thrilled that so many of their loved ones could join them. “Tony’s family and friends are based in Australia and the U.S., while mine are half French, so we had people flying in from all over the world,” she explains. “We hosted a pre-wedding family day at Charlton House and a post-wedding lunch at the Intercontinental. On the day, the beautiful warm evening meant everyone could spill out onto the terrace to enjoy cocktails.” 33

uzanne and Dimitry have Tinder to thank for their introduction. Shortly after swiping right, the pair met and became inseparable. “There was so much laughter from the first moment we met,” Suzanne says. “We saw each other almost every day after that.” Fast forward to June 2019, and the pair are on a trip to visit Dimitry’s family in Cape Town. “We went to a gorgeous vineyard with the most amazing views over the city,” Suzanne remembers. “We drank wine by the fireplace before going for a walk to enjoy the view. It was there he popped the question – it was such a surprise!” What followed was a stay in a boutique hotel by the sea and plenty of great memories. The couple planned to tie the knot in Cape Town, but COVID-19 put paid to that. Instead, they quickly adapted their plans for a wonderful summer wedding in London on 23rd August, 2020, when restrictions were loosened. After a ceremony at the beautiful Old Marylebone Town Hall, they celebrated at The Mandrake Hotel. Suzanne continues the story…

REAL WEDDINGS
We picked The Mandrake Hotel’s terrace as it’s such an artistic and creative venue. It has a mystery around it, which makes it feel like an d exotic location that not many people know about. Everyone was surprise by the beautiful greenery; it made the setting feel like being on holiday.
We organised a stunning bouquet from Rebel Rebel Flowers. We wanted the flowers to be creative, bold and in wild colours – it ended up being perfect. I was so glad I made the last-minute decision to order a matching floral hairpiece!
Suzanne’s tips on planning in a pandemic: “You have to be very adaptable – things change on a weekly basis so have a number of back-up plans in place. We kept saying that no matter what happens, we will get married. And we did it!” 37

MAKING Ina and Waleed’s day changed dramatically because of COVID-19 regulations, but they still held the most incredible celebration with their closest family and friends Images courtesy of Epic Moments Photography
waves I
na and Waleed first met when Waleed was looking for models to extend his photography portfolio. They chatted over coffee and realised there was something between them. “He’s super-positive and always makes me laugh,” Ina says. Waleed says it was Ina’s beautiful smile, freckles and caring personality that grabbed his attention. Completely unplanned, a few weeks after they met, the couple had both booked skiing trips. The day before departure, they realised they were staying in the same French resort! “We bumped into each other a lot!” Ina remembers. When it came to popping the question two years later, Waleed knew the ideal place. “We went back to the same resort, along with my brother,” Ina says. “My brother distracted me on the day, while Waleed prepared rose petals on our favourite slope. My brother told me to go down the next slope by myself, where I see Waleed waiting. It looked amazing with the blue skies, snow and rose petals!” The pair set the date for 17th October, 2020, at Queen Mary University. No one could have imagined that a pandemic was about to hit, but the couple adapted amazingly – organising a microceremony at the venue followed by a reception to remember aboard a City Cruises boat. Ina tells us more.. 41
41
We loved the colourful Octagon Room at Queen Mary immediately. Originally it would have been our reception space, but the team at the venue were so accommodating in allowing us to move our ceremony there. We originally wanted our reception on a boat, but decided against it because it was too much logistically with a guest list of 120 people. When we had to cut the numbers, we took the opportunity and booked a private River Thames Tour.
Our theme was a mixture of a colourful Pakistani wedding and a German wedding. After visiting lots of wedding shows, we knew we didn’t want white or light-coloured flowers. When we met our florist, she had these small colourful vases with single flowers and petals; we loved how simple and vibrant it looked.
Our ceremony was held by my cousin who is a pastor and Waleed’s friend who is an imam. They planned the whole ceremony and we didn’t know until the day what they would be saying. It was so personal, funny and full of love. It was very special for us to combine our cultures and backgrounds. Who else has had to say “I do” in three different languages?
When it came to the cake, it had to be chocolate. There was no other option for us! 42
Addison Lee was our life-saver over the weekend, as we didn’t want to risk public transport. One highlight was booking a white London wedding cab at short notice – it made the day even more special.
REAL WEDDINGS
I opted for a classic white dress. I found a top that I fell in love with and found the best tailor in the city to make it look exactly how I imagined it. I teamed it with jewellery from my grandma, a light blue jacket and dark blue accessories to match Waleed’s suit.
We prepared COVID packages that were placed on arrival in the hotel rooms. They contained a personalised face mask and hand sanitiser alongside a card and chocolates.
My brother played piano during our ceremony, which was just beautiful. A live band wasn’t an option, but the boat tour through London and seeing the skyline both in the day and at night was spectacular.
Rather than handing a guest book around, we gave everyone two envelopes and asked them for a message for this year and one for our first anniversary. We stuck these in our guest book along with a Polaroid of everyone.
Waleed definitely stood out in his perfectly fitted blue suit and matching tie. With all the last-minute changes to the guest list, he organised coordinating ties for all our family and friends. 43
My mum and her partner prepared a special German tradition for us. The newlyweds cut a heart shape in a bed sheet, one of us starting on the left and one on the right, and whoever reaches the top first has to carry the other through the heart-shaped hole. It was great fun!
We had to re-size our wedding from 120 people to 30, then from 30 to 15. Telling the last 15 people that they couldn’t attend was the hardest part. There was so much uncertainty, but we tried to stay positive and worked out new ways to make our day possible. We didn’t know until two days before if some of our family from outside the UK would be able to make it.

Our advice to couples in a similar situation is to stay optimistic and remain in constant contact with your suppliers and family. We got really lucky with our suppliers, who all made last-minute changes for us. It was important to us that our family was supportive of our decision to go ahead, as we wanted our small group to enjoy it to the fullest. Everything happens for a reason, and we couldn’t have asked for a better micro-wedding.

Dreamed up by Shirley Spence of Couture Wedding Tales, the shoot is an exploration of colour and texture. “We expanded the palette by mixing tints and shades of pink and blue alongside coral, teal and gold to create a richer dimension of colours,” Shirley explains. “We also used a variety of textures, patterns and shapes through florals, displays and tableware to add interest and visual weight to the design.” An incredible team of creatives came together at Dulwich College, which was chosen for its grandeur and rich interiors, providing the perfect backdrop to allow the design to pop. VENUE STYLING
Style it out Venue styling for the new normal
W
e’ve been on a rollercoaster of restrictions, distancing and guidelines over the last year, with couples and the wedding industry constantly adapting to new regulations. We wanted to explore how you can style three different ‘new normal’ weddings, whether you’re going small, taking it outside or throwing the ultimate party when this is all over. Thanks to our super-talented London experts for their advice and tips…
Micro-weddings. So many couples have made the most of the situation and planned a smaller celebration. Will these intimate weddings stick around? And if so, how can you style them?
www.facebook.com/chaircoversbyziora
“Every wedding, no matter the size, will need food, a bar, staff, hire items, decor and entertainment – so don’t forget the basics. No matter your table design, keep these rules in mind: make sure your loved ones have plenty of elbow room, easy access to the essentials like wine and water and make sure the centrepieces don’t prevent them from seeing their dining partners. With smaller weddings, you can go the extra mile and give your guests a memorable experience with personal touches.” – Cherelle Joseph, Perfectly Planned 4 You
https://thestarsinside.com | www.terryliphotography.co.uk https://thestarsinside.com | www.jadeosbornephotograpy.com
https://perfectlyplanned4you.com | www.amandakarenphotography.co.uk
“Consider arranging your tables banquet style, so all your guests are on the same table – albeit socially distanced, if required. This creates a sense of conviviality and celebration. Arrange a sweetheart table for the two of you, so you can have moments together while still being integral to the celebrations. This layout creates the feeling of having a top table, but with the intimacy needed for a smaller wedding.” – Sandra Trusty, Fabulous Functions UK “This is the perfect opportunity to pull out the stops for each guest and take care of the finer details. Why not try laser-cut place settings with a single floral stem in front of each name? You could also add a personal touch with a hand-written note to each of your loved ones. With a smaller table to decorate, you can create a stunning tablescape. Be sure to include elements such as candles, charger plates and intricate glassware to build the look and add to the luxury.” – Bilen Zeremariam, Queen of Hearts Floral Design
https://thestarsinside.com | https://rebeccacarpenterphotography.com
https://thestarsinside.com | www.terryliphotography.co.uk
“We’re seeing lots of couples downsizing numbers but upsizing in decor, so they can still have the day they envisaged. Couples are taking care and focusing more on the details as there’s now budget for it. Think elegant place settings, gold cutlery, charger plates, lavish tablecloths and over-the-top florals.” – Mary Ye, Event Decor Hire
“As there aren’t many guests, it’s easier to introduce details like family heirlooms and hand-finished touches such as embroidered napkins, monogrammed signage and hand-written menus. Micro-weddings allow you to go hyper-custom in a way that would be financially prohibitive for larger parties. How about a bespoke invitation suite complete with an illustration of your venue? Prioritise those elements that will make your guests feel truly looked after; it’s all about meaningful luxury.” – Valentina Ring, The Stars Inside 55

The great outdoors.
Taking weddings outside means plenty of space, fresh air and making the most of our beautiful city. “Make the most of an outdoor space by creating focal points for your ceremony. A floral arch is a gorgeous backdrop and will provide the perfect setting for your “I dos”. Picture entering through two gorgeous floral columns and gliding up the aisle to arrive at your beloved.” – Sandra Trusty, Fabulous Functions UK
www.fabulousfunctionsuk.com | www.steffenmilsomphotography.co.uk
“The secret to creating magic outdoors is having a consistent style, whether that’s rustic, boho, modern, etc., and plan each part of the day with this in mind. The ceremonial arch should be designed to reflect you and your partner; it’s the most important photo opportunity of the day, so make sure it coordinates beautifully. My top tip for outdoor weddings is candles – they always add to the ambience and romance.” – Bilen Zeremariam, Queen of Hearts Floral Design
https://thestarsinside.com | https://wyldbee.com
“Designing outdoor weddings is a fun and creative process, which is just as much about the details as it is the overall picture. Back gardens are becoming a popular option for modern weddings, and with just a little pizzazz and sparkle, they can make the most gorgeous venues. Choose greenery for a super-versatile table runner or centrepiece.” – Cherelle Joseph, Perfectly Planned 4 You
“As hosting al fresco is safer and more spacious, we’ve definitely seen an increase in this style of wedding. Three elements that work wonderfully for creating a luxury vibe outdoors are lighting, furniture and flowers. Lighting is a powerful way to add ambience, from a canopy of fairylights to flickering candles and chandeliers hanging from trees. Flowers will do wonders to elevate the styling, especially when positioned in intentional, artful ways. I love including floral installations that highlight features like arches, entrances or fountains. Another element I love exploring is furniture; try bringing the indoors out with lounge areas of chic armchairs and metallic coffee tables alongside a bespoke bar.” – Valentina Ring, The Stars Inside 56

VENUE STYLING
www.fabulousfunctionsuk.com | https://carleandmoss.com
https://eventdecorhire.com
“Celebrate your party in style by daring to be different. Who said a wedding must be ivory, blush and peach? Why not try coordinating your palette to the time of year or the interior of your venue? If you want to make an impact, try colours that enhance each other such as purple and orange or teal and gold.” – Bilen Zeremariam, Queen of Hearts Floral Design
“Go big or go home is the 2021 wedding theme! Couples will be ready for a good old knees up, especially as we spent most of 2020 locked up at home. Trends for venue dressing will be very bold, loud and in your face. Couples will want to create more of an experience than traditional wedding theming. From the dress, food, decor and entertainment, newlyweds will want a big day to remember. Look out for Hollywood-glamour and Great Gatsby themes; we’ve spent the best part of the year in joggers, it’s time to get glam!” – Natalee Moona, Chaircovers By Ziora
“If you move your date to a different season, then there are some aspects of the styling you may need to think about. You could stick to your original colour palette, but you may wish to make some additions to make it work with your new date. Lots of 2021 couples are asking for dried florals for a rustic, chic and slightly nostalgic feel. I’m also loving more out-of-the-box lighting options, such as LED signs with fun images or phrases, hanging basket lanterns and modern tube lighting.” – Cherelle Joseph, Perfectly Planned 4 You
“Customisation is a big trend to look out for. We’re loving our stunning seamless dancefloors with your very own branding. Personalise even further with bespoke backdrops and include your initials or theme throughout every aspect of the day.” – Mary Ye, Event Decor Hire

PLANNING SOS
PLANNING S O S We get the wed-min lowdown from some of London’s most sought-after suppliers
OMG you’re engaged! After all the excitement of the proposal, there’s the dawning realisation that you have to plan a once-in-a-lifetime event – oh, and you’re the centre of attention. Do not fear! We’ve asked some of our favourite wedding companies to give us their top tips for what to consider before booking your suppliers and how you can adapt your day if you plan to wed during the pandemic…
ROUND ONE
EDWIN MARCOW PHOTOGRAPHY
How can you get the best out of your wedding photography? ❤ No matter what style your photographer shoots in, you’ll get maximum creativity from them with a good plan in place. I often visit the venue twice, at least once with the couple, to scout out the best locations for iconic portraits. A good plan means we can work out timings for couple shots, family shots and group shots, so you can get back to family and friends.
www.edwinmarcow.com
❤ I love to plan a sneak-out shoot between the main course and dessert. I will have already chosen the location and my second photographer will have everything set up so we can shoot some amazing images. The newlyweds are back in time for dessert, before anyone has noticed they’re gone! How can you help couples adapt their day during the pandemic? ❤ Whether you postpone or hold a micro-wedding, make sure you email all the important information such as dates and times and copy everyone in. I have had wedding planners forget to give me revised running orders – even before the pandemic! ❤ Be as flexible as possible, with rules changing by the week, be prepared to be fluid in your planning. An intimate wedding can be just as special as a grand affair.
THE OLD FINSBURY TOWN HALL
What are your top tips for wedding planning during a pandemic? ❤ Make sure you contact the registrars as early as possible t o book in your wedding – they have such a backlog after the disruption of 2020 that dates are limited. They’ll also be able to advise on restrictions and guidelines.

GOODENOUGH COLLEGE
❤ Get creative for smaller weddings by including Zoom calls in your ceremony for those who can’t attend. One of our couples even brought in cardboard cutouts of their family, which went down brilliantly for the pictures!
How can you help couples adapt their day during the pandemic? Live-steaming is a wonderful solution for couples who choose to get married at this time. Another option we’re recommending is to have an intimate ceremony with us in 2021, followed by a larger celebration with extended family and friends on your first anniversary in 2022 – that way you get the best of both worlds.

ROUND TWO BAHAMAS TOURIST OFFICE
Once travel restrictions are lifted, how can couples ensure their honeymoon will be safe? ❤ We’ve set strict safety protocols and have made sure they’re being followed. With 16 islands to choose from, social distancing is very easy!
Dolphin Cay at Atlantis Paradise Island
❤ There are direct flights from London Heathrow – just one flight and you’re there. ❤ Consider helping to fund your adventure by asking for an alternative wedding gift. Bahamas specialist Bon Voyage can set up a Love Fund. Kimberley Greenslade | www.bahamas.com
JENNIFER PATRICE – CELEBRANT
www.poppycarterportraits.com
❤ Hotels in The Bahamas offer rapid testing on arrival at the property to ensure a safe honeymoon.
What should couples consider before booking their celebrant? ❤ Start by doing some research – celebrants’ websites will normally have a little blurb describing what kind of celebrant they are. Check out websites and social media to shortlist who you’d like to have an initial meeting with. From these meetings, make your choice based on whether you have rapport with the celebrant and if you think they can bring your wedding vision to life. ❤ Decide on a budget and find out exactly what’s included in the fee. For example, how many meetings will you have, are travel expenses included and will you have a full rehearsal?
What should couples consider before booking a celebrant or toastmaster? ❤ Firstly, make sure you have the opportunity to meet with them either in person or via video call, also check they have the necessary insurance and they work with a contract in place. ❤ Good celebrants and toastmasters are now booking for 2022 and 2023, so make sure you get in touch early! However, if you’re having a weekday event, they may still be able to fit you in during 2021. How can you help couples adapt their day during the pandemic? ❤ Consider having your event live-streamed for those who can’t attend. Your videographer can assist with this and also make a recording for you to treasure forever. ❤ When downsizing, always start with a must-attend list; this could be your parents, grandparents, siblings and partners. Then add in your immediate friends and those taking part in the ceremony, which will hopefully take you to your maximum number. Sonal Dave | www.sonaldave.com 60
Jennifer Patrice | www.jenniferpatrice.com
KAANG PRODUCTIONS
What should couples consider before booking their videographer? ❤ We always advise that you ask for two cameras, even if there’s only one videographer. Having one camera for closeups and another for wide-angle shots makes a far better final edit. As a norm, we have two videographers and three cameras, one being a specialist bit of kit for smooth motion to capture the bridal entrance. How can you help couples adapt their day during the pandemic? ❤ We’ve started offering a block system for bookings – so you can book the ceremony, with the option to add on a block for wedding prep anda block for the reception etc. Depending on what government measures are in place, or what budget you have, you can still have your video produced. Mark Mccombe & Randerick Bishop | www.kaangweddings.co.uk

SONAL DAVE TOASTMASTER AND CELEBRANT
How can you help couples adapt their day during the pandemic? ❤ If you choose to downsize your day, you may want a more intimate ceremony than previously planned, and your celebrant can help you adapt it. If your guest list has been reduced dramatically, for instance to 15 people, perhaps you’d like all of your guests to take part in the ceremony in some way? There are so many variations and the couple should discuss everything with their celebrant. It’s your day, and we want to make sure you’re happy.

BUCKLEIGH OF LONDON
HAIR AND MAKEUP BY GABRIELLE
What should brides consider before booking their hair and make-up? ❤ Hair and make-up are often two of the things people compromise on when budgeting for their wedding. However, it’s important to remember that this is likely to be the most photographed day of your life, with those images hanging on walls for generations to come. This is your day and you deserve to be pampered. ❤ Don’t compromise on quality; you invariably get what you pay for. There’s a very good reason the best artists charge what they do – they invest in their expertise, hone their skills continuously, come with solid experience and have spent a small fortune on building a collection of premium products and tools.
How can you help couples adapt their day during the pandemic? ❤ It’s worth remembering that while your plans may have changed, the reason you’re taking those vows hasn’t. Whether you’re saying them in front of 15 people or 100 people, the day can still be the very best of your life. In fact, all my couples this year have said that while it was stressful to adapt their day, How can couples adapt their cake design for smaller weddings? they loved their intimate wedding. ❤ With a limit to the number of guests allowed to attend your wedding, three- to four-tier cakes are out and two-tier cakes are in. Smaller cakes can still look elegant and impressive with the right design, or Gabriela Staniszewska | www.hairbygabrielle.co.uk by playing with size. Try having a lower bottom tier and a taller top tier for a striking visual effect.

YOU’VE GOT THE LOOK
What are your favourite bridal accessories for winter? There’s something about winter weddings that bring a magical feeling of getting married in a castle. You associate castles with queens – so something needs to be worn on the head! I love dainty, chic bridal hair accessories that still make a statement. Try a classic alloy headband with a bendable effect that can be worn around the head as a crown or as a hairclip fitted to the veil. These look stunning with afro hair, curly hair, straight hair and sleek up or down hair dos. What style of gown would you choose for a Valentine’s wedding? I would choose an ivory satin, mermaid-style gown with a cowl neck and extremely long train. The corset would be heavily boned and provide structure to allow the bust area to hold volume from the cowl effect and draping. With this style, you can debut strapless, Bardot sleeves, spaghetti straps or a halterneck – all while the dress is completely backless. The open back brings the romance and you can finish it off with a sophisticated back necklace. I love Inbal Dror and Steven Khalil bridal designs; they’re both great at creating form-fitting backless dresses. What are you top tips for those looking for their wedding outfit? It’s your day, so it should be 100% your choice – not your in-laws, not your siblings and not your friends. Imagine what you wish to look like and then go out and find that dress. If you can’t find the style you imagined, find a designer who can create it for you. Focus on making sure you feel your most beautiful; it’s once in a lifetime so make it count. Kelly | Kelly Richardson Stylist | www.kellyrichardsonstyling.com 80
What headpiece would you choose for a Valentine’s wedding? For a Valentine’s Day wedding, I think it’d be fun to wear a red headpiece in felt. The felt is perfect for the cold February weather and the red is a wonderful romantic reminder. If you’d rather go for a traditional look, I’d suggest an ivory headpiece that you can pin a real red rose to or add lace or silk flowers. What are your top tips for choosing a statement headpiece? ❤ Choose your dress first, then add one of the details from the dress into the hat. It could be a pleat, pattern or fabric. ❤ The hat should complement the dress, not overpower it. ❤ Choose a style to suit the neckline. For example, if you have a square neck on your dress, avoid a pointy front-facing percher hat as the points would go against the square. ❤ The most flattering styles sit on the side of your head and cover a parting. ❤ If you have a round face, try a hat that’s more angular and architectural. Longer faces suit an asymmetric style that cuts across the face. ❤ Don’t be afraid to be bold on your special day. Katherine | Katherine Elizabeth Millinery www.katherineelizabethmillinery.com

“With a creamy matte texture this lippy is comfortable to wear and doesn’t transfer. Long-lasting it stays in place through coffees and snacks, but could probably do with a little top up after lunch. Plus, She’s a Lady is a super-feminine girly pink, lovely for a rosy bride look. Incredible value for money, it’s a great staple for your make-up bag. Why not try all the colours?” – Kelly Andrews
“This handbag must-have goes on like a dream and certainly lived up to its name. The wonderfully lush creamy formula glides on smoothly and stays on without flaking, making me feel fabulous all day! It left my lips feeling soft and smooth too – win, win!” – Sarah Reeve

“After using a tint for the first time I’m a convert! This colour was divine, and what I like is that you can layer it up and build the tone to your desired effect; soft subtle pink by day and a deep red by night. It lasted all day after drinking and eating, and even stayed on when I applied a balm over the top. A must-have for your make-up bag.” – Danielle Harvey
“Straight away, I loved the sturdy packaging and precise applicator. The lightweight formula has fantastic pigmentation and the product has a matte finish. There’s no cracking or bleeding because of the avocado oil, vitamin E, and hyaluronic filling spheres, which I’m very thankful for as there’s nothing I hate more than dry lips! The beautiful shade lasted hours on my lips and I got compliments all day when I wore it!” – Olivia Gibson

“The Lip Definer was easy to use, and I loved the way it looked. I put it on first thing, and by the time I went to bed it was still firmly in place, looking fabulous, even though I’d been in the rain most of the day. I had fun playing with the dual-ended pencil and brush creating a look that suited me and paired it with Unforgettable Lipstick in Legendary, but as it’s a natural shade it would work well with most colours.” – Melissa Barker
SHADE: UNDRESSED WITH LEGENDARY
“Historically, matte lipsticks have been my worst enemy – being a notorious lip-biter they show up all my flaws. But it’s safe to say that this product has changed my mindset. The finish, although definitely matte, is somehow silky and smooth. The best thing about this particular shade is that it’s bold enough to look like you’ve made an effort without being OTT – the perfect lazy-girl hack! It also has incredible staying power, but that does mean you need to be careful to apply correctly the first time as it doesn’t budge!” – Beth Morton

Illamasqua Beyond Lipstick, www.illamasqua.com, £20 “Upon application you could definitely tell this was a luxe cream lipstick as it has a balm consistency and left my lips feeling nourished with a noticeable shimmer. Plus, I didn’t have the typical drying of the lips, which I find some products cause. This lipstick is one to keep on you and reapply throughout the day for longevity.” – Danielle Harvey

HOT TOPIC Our experts solve your wedding dilemmas
FINDING THE PERFECT SETTING
Q What questions should I ask a venue before booking? ❤ Check if the venue offers exclusive use so that you’re not disappointed on the day. ❤ Ask if the venue has an event manager to run your wedding. If not, this is something to arrange yourself as it’s crucial to the flow and timings of the day. ❤ If you’re planning a summer wedding, always check what the back-up plan is if the weather is bad. ❤ Ask what the minimum and maximum number of guests are. Guest lists can change over time and you may wish to add a few more people on. Q How have you adapted to make weddings more COVID-friendly? Our team has been lucky enough to host a number of intimate weddings during the pandemic, and they’re just as special. Morden Hall has three large function spaces so there’s flexibility throughout the day. For intimate ceremonies, our smallest room, the Hawthorne Suite, has become popular. We can then offer a drinks reception in the lounge, followed by a socially distanced wedding breakfast in our largest suite. We have wonderful outside spaces for guests to explore as well. We’ve adapted the way we serve food and drink with the use of an app, and canapés are presented as individual portions. We’ve increased our cleaning procedures and there are multiple sanitising stations throughout the venue, which have been designed not to detract from the beauty of the setting.

EXPERT ADVICE
Q How can I narrow down my venue search? With so much choice, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Start by discussing with your partner what’s most important to you. It could be the location and transport links for guests travelling from further afield, or perhaps you’re more interested in on-site accommodation. Next, think about the style of wedding you’d like. Do you have your heart set on a relaxed day with full access to the venue and grounds to enjoy with your nearest and dearest? Are photos important to you? If so, check that there are plenty of pictureperfect spots both inside and out. Kate Southall | Morden Hall | www.mordenhall.com

TO DINE FOR
Q After a lot of sleepless nights, we’ve decided to plan a micro-wedding in early 2021. What food can we offer our guests to make it extra special? ❤ Bring the taste of everything you’ve missed. We’ve had some really unique requests for smaller weddings, including tasting menus inspired by the clients’ favourite restaurants they’d missed during lockdown. I’d suggest making a list of your favourite flavours and cuisines, then consider how this can translate into dishes. Perhaps you’ve had to postpone your Spanish or Italian honeymoon – so why not honour this in your catering? ❤ Canapés are a win-win. They’re a great excuse to incorporate all your favourite flavours into your day. We’ve been designing canapé menus that are served in a socially distanced way without compromising on quality or presentation. Think single canapés served under mini glass cloches or individual bento boxes filled with a serving of canapés for each guest. You can pack in more flavours and options for your smaller guest list, as the normal headache of pleasing a large group is removed. ❤ Focus on delivering an extra-special experience. The budget that would’ve normally gone into catering for larger numbers can now be focused on quality dishes and a more bespoke, enjoyable offering. It also presents an opportunity to use local ingredients. We source from areas that are rich in quality produce, and you’ll be supporting a local business too. Alex Head | Social Pantry | https://socialpantry.co.uk
SNAP HAPPY
Q There are so many photographers out there – how do we choose who’s right for us? The best photographers should pass three tests: ❤ Is their portfolio consistently good? If the gallery shows a documentary style for one wedding, lots of flash in another and an attempt www.douglasfry.com at a hipster vibe in a third, then your photos may come as an unwelcome surprise! You want to see examples of great photography in a consistent style that looks good all year round. ❤ Do you like your photographer? You’ll be in close proximity to them all day, so make sure you get along. It’s important to meet a selection of photographers in the early stages and get a feel for their personality. ❤ There are no second chances, and experience is key to good photography. A wedding can be an emotional time and you need to know your photographer is prepared for each stage of the day so you’ll have a set of images you’ll love for years to come. Douglas Fry | Douglas Fry Wedding Photography | www.douglasfry.com
ARRIVE IN STYLE
Q I’d like to book a wedding car as a surprise for my partner. What do I need to think about before parting with my money? When choosing a wedding vehicle amid the coronavirus pandemic, you have to consider the prospect of your wedding being altered at short notice because of last-minute government policies. If that happens because of a lockdown, we will ensure the deposit used to book your car can be used to rebook the vehicle. Next, think about the style of car your partner would like and what will suit your day – this could be retro, modern, elegant or sophisticated. We have a range of different vehicles from limousines and vintage cars to Rolls Royces and Bentleys, and we can guide you in what will work best for your day. Finally, you need to decide how many passengers you want in the car, then choose the vehicle that can accommodate them. Some couples go for bigger cars, as they want the whole bridal party together, whereas others want to have some time alone after the excitement of the ceremony. HEAD TO THE EAST
Wilderness Reserve has launched its second country estate, Chapel Barn, just in time for the staycation boom whether you want to head away pre- or post-vows. The Chapel Barn (once a 15th-century farmstead) has all the charm of its heritage intact and yet comes with a host of luxury facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, cinema, gym and spa set over 5,000 magnificent acres of carefully maintained Suffolk countryside. Accommodation options range from the one-bed electricity-free Hovel, set by the lake, through to Chapel Barn itself, which comes with 18 en suite bedrooms. All seven properties may be rented individually and each building has been sensitively restored, employing the traditional methods of local artisans. Other highlights include Moat Cottage, painted in fetching Suffolk pink. It’s found atop its own hill, surrounded by water full of wildlife. Its hot tub and rowboat are both wonderful spots to take in 360° views of the Suffolk countryside and there’s space on its lawns for fun group activities. Chapel Barn channels the landscaping principles of Capability Brown: cattle and sheep graze the valley sides around the estate’s expansive lake and woodland, wild flower meadows inject colour in spring, while a traditional Suffolk apple orchard flourishes every autumn.
