’ve worked at Country Wedding Magazines for more than four years and over that time I’ve seen trends come and go, inspirational real weddings and worked with some amazing suppliers. As a result, I thought I’d have a pretty good idea of what I’d want at my own wedding but when my partner, Dave, recently proposed I realised I have absolutely no idea. I’m sure lots of you will agree that the first few weeks of having the ‘engaged’ status and wearing the ring feels a bit surreal, but the endless possibilities are also really exciting. Like so many of you, we’re trying to plan the perfect wedding during a pandemic, so things have been a little unconventional so far with online tours, lots of Skype meetings and E-mails. Its been so wonderful to see first hand how suppliers in the wedding industry are going above and beyond to ensure their couples’ days are special, regardless of the restrictions. If like me, you’re looking for inspiration, then this issue is perfect for you. We’ve rounded up some of the best photographers, spoken to local entertainers, hair and make-up artists and a host of other talented suppliers. We have three real weddings starting on page 33 and four stunning shoots starting on page 69 that’s sure to inspire you. You can submit your wedding or styled shoot via our website or at Melissab@kdmediapublishing.com

REAL WEDDINGS
LOVE FINDS A WAY After having to postpone their wedding several times, Charlotte and Dan finally tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony at Blakelands Country House Images courtesy of Tom Butler Photography
C
harlotte and Dan first met in high school. “I was attracted to him but never thought he would look twice at me,” shares Charlotte. “We started talking on social media in 2015 and haven’t been apart since.” Dan popped the question at a restaurant in Birmingham. “It had all been planned with the establishment before we arrived,” says the bride. “After the meal, when our puddings were served, written on my
plate was ‘will you marry me?’ Our song started playing over the speakers, and Dan presented the ring to me and said ‘what do you say then?’ Everyone cheered, and the staff arrived with champagne. I hate being the centre of attention, so I was a little embarrassed, but it was a lovely moment.” Here the bride shares some of her favourite moments from their big day...
33
Blakelands Country House is a beautiful place that had been recommended to us. We booked the 17th May, 2020, but due to COVID-19, we ended up moving our date to September and then to November before that got cancelled as well. We went for one last try on the 22nd December. At the beginning of the month, we were put into the tier system, but we decided to go ahead anyway. We just wanted to get married, after waiting for nearly three years, so we chose to only have the ceremony.
Our flowers were beautiful cream roses from Clare’s Weddings.
I travelled to the venue in a cream and black Bramwith with my dad, and the bridesmaids went in a Volkswagen Campervan from Creme de la Creme Automobiles. 34
We bought decorations that we weren’t able to use, so to keep it simple, we gave our guests personalised M&Ms that had our names on as favours.
I bought my dress two years before the wedding from TDR Bridal. I knew I wanted a mermaid style, but I shocked myself when I went for lace. I bought a detailed belt online to give the gown a little something extra. I accessorised with a faux fur shrug to keep me warm, and I also purchased similar versions for the bridesmaids.
REAL WEDDINGS
We bought the bridesmaids’ dresses from Sistaglam and the flowersgirl versions from Leila Rae. I found them on Etsy, and they were exactly what I wanted, and even better, they were a local business. Dan wanted a suit that resembled what David Beckham wore to Harry and Meghan’s wedding. He chose it from TDR Menswear Birmingham, and I purchased socks for all the men to wear with their roles written on.
The day didn’t feel real as it went by so fast. Everyone made it so wonderful and as special as they could.
We had a lovely lady called Helen Barley play the harp during the ceremony. It was absolutely beautiful, and everyone thought it was a wonderful addition to the day.
They say don’t work with kids. We sent our two pageboys down the aisle first with cute signs. We hadn’t told them what to do, so they just stood there at the top of the aisle for ages until someone moved them!

Tournebize WEDDING RING MAKING EXPERIENCE A unique forever keepsake of your love Have you considered making your own wedding rings? You will receive personalised guidance and support from design to completion led by Josephine, a highly skilled and experienced jeweller. Making workshops can be an original and fun way to create presents for the bridesmaids - a hen party with a real difference! Rings, pendants, bracelets, cufflinks or tie pins can all be made under the supervision of Josephine. This would certainly be a different way of achieving the 'something new' of the old rhyme! We also offer repairs, resizing and cleaning of existing pieces before the ceremony. Why not get in touch to book a personal consultation with Josephine to talk over any ideas you may have?
Alternatively, if you prefer to have your jewellery professionally crafted, commission Josephine to make them for you! Josephine can create both your engagement and wedding rings or make you a wedding ring to match your existing engagement ring. This can also be achieved by reusing sentimental jewellery. The stones can be reset or the metal itself can be melted and used to create the new piece. This is a lovely way of incorporating family heirlooms into a modern piece. Josephine can even add ashes to the metal so that treasured memories are subtly included on your special day.

FOR ME
Matthew and Luzio exchanged vows in a gorgeous wedding at Coombe Abbey Images courtesy of Doherty Photography
38
REAL WEDDINGS
M
atthew and Luzio met on a beach in Rio de Janeiro. “Matthew was advising someone about his allergies, but the person didn’t speak English,” says Luzio. “I stepped in to translate, and we got talking. We had our first date later that evening and were instantly attracted to each other.” Luzio was in for a surprise when Matthew proposed during a helicopter tour. “We flew around Rio de Janeiro and then hovered in front of Christ the Redeemer,” shares Luzio. “I was looking at the statue when Matthew called my name. I turned around, and he was holding the ring and asked me to marry him. We had champagne in the sky as we continued our flight. There was a photographer, but I was told he was there taking pictures of the flight for his website, but it turns out he was really there to capture our engagement. It was a truly unforgettable moment.”
SETTING THE SCENE “With the country dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, our wedding numbers were drastically reduced,” explains Luzio. “We wanted to make sure that even with a smaller guest list, we could still have a beautiful wedding which would not reflect or leave memories of the pandemic. Coombe Abbey is a breathtaking venue with exterior landscaping, a lake and a historic interior. From the moment we arrived, we fell in love with the property and liked that there were so many places to take photographs.” For their favours, the couple chose personalised chocolates decorated with purple bows. “Our tables had a mixture of English and Brazilian guests, each with a direct view of the head table,” says Luzio. “We found a lady on Etsy who made hexagon shaped glass cut-outs which we used as our place names. We wrote each person’s name in beautiful gold and placed them on white napkins.” The happy couple chose gorgeous centrepieces from Fairytale Flowers. “These included a selection of fresh blooms in dusky pink placed in large black and silver oval vases,” shares Luzio. “We requested to have lots of vases ranging in size and shape placed around the venue to create a floral smell. We also had a flower arch at the front of the ceremony and trees with lights in the corner.” “The cake was the hardest part of the wedding,” Luzio adds. “We knew what we wanted but couldn’t find anything like it online. We chose more than 20 pictures where we liked an aspect of the cake’s design and did some terrible drawings. From these, Cakes 4 U By Julz created a design that was exactly what we wanted. Julz was incredibly patient with us, and it looked perfect.” Luzio and Matthew chose a neon light-up sign that they placed behind the cake. “It said ’crazy in love’, which is a reference to the early part of our relationship before we said I love you to each other we would say I am Beyoncé referring to the song Crazy in Love,” explains Luzio. “To
39
REAL WEDDINGS finish off the day, we hired a white Rolls Royce Phantom from Manns Limousines that we decorated with a purple ribbon.”
DRESSED TO IMPRESS “We wanted to have a different look that stood out from other weddings,” recalls Luzio. “We went to several clothing specialists, and sadly, we couldn’t find what we were looking for as our vision was so specific. We liked the idea of dinner jackets and wanted three-piece suits, where we could take the jackets off to reveal a more casual look without getting changed. Matthew opted for a grey dinner jacket with black edging and a grey waistcoat, and I chose a blue dinner jacket with matching black edging and a blue waistcoat. We had the same trousers, shoes and belt and opted for dusky pink bow ties and matching corner pockets. We liked that we hadn’t seen pictures of similar concepts and feel it was unique to our wedding.”
TIME TO CELEBRATE Due to COVID-19, the couple were unable to have any entertainment at their reception. “We did have musicians play throughout the ceremony, which was an excellent addition to the wedding,” says Luzio. “The small number of guests made the wedding feel very personal and intimate with people getting to know each other and celebrating as a big family.”
MEMORABLE MOMENTS “We had both put off writing our speeches, and as a result, it ended up impacting our sleep the night before the wedding,” Luzio explains. “It was stressful but more so because we had an action plan to follow to ensure everything was complete and we were on time. Having 24 hours apart really impacted us, so when we saw each other at the ceremony, we were overcome with emotion.” Luzio and Matthew had a slight mishap on the morning of the wedding. “We had the same wedding trousers in different sizes, and Matthew had accidently taken my pair,” shares Luzio. “We had spent the night before in separate hotels, so I had to meet our guests in jeans until Matthew arrived to get changed.” “The registrars were very excited about the wedding as it was their first one that year due to COVID-19 and the first with two men,” says Luzio. “They were as emotional as we were and really made the entire ceremony personal to us. They made our guests laugh, even when I become overcome with emotion, they started a joke to give me time to breathe. All our guests commented on how amazing the registrars were and adding that personal touch made a real difference. We were also very blessed that after a dark start to the morning, the sun came out and the clouds disappeared, and we had the perfect wedding weather.”

e met in our local pub and were introduced by a mutual friend,” says Georgia. “I was attracted to Matt’s cheeky smile and sense of humour. We spoke briefly, but I was in a rush to meet my mum, so we didn’t exchange details. Matt then went out of his way to get my contact information to ask me out on a date.” Matt popped the question during a holiday in Kefalonia in September 2018. “It was just before our sixth anniversary,” shares the bride. “Matt proposed on the first night as he was so nervous and couldn’t wait. Sounds cheesy, but as we stopped to look at the stars, Matt got down on one knee in the sand and asked me to marry him. He isn’t very good at keeping secrets, but it was a huge surprise. I was so shocked that it actually took me a few minutes to answer.” Here she shares some of her favourite moments from their big day.. 45

I wanted to make a quirky table plan and came across a picture on Pinterest, which used crates and flow ers pots. I loved the idea, so I decided to use decorated jam jars with labels dangling from them, detailing the table numbers and nam es. I had so much fun making it, and it looked incredible outside the barn .

We opted for informal foo d that we both loved. We picked out our favourite canapés for the welcome drinks, had sha rin g boards for the main meal and warm cho colate brownies for desser t. In the evening, we hired The Old Dough Hook to provide pizzas wh ich everyone loved, and the venue ma de chip cones to be served with it.
Matt opted for a blue three-piece suit with a blue and brown paisley print cravat from House of Cavani. He had wine coloured leather brogues from Paolo Vandini and accessorised with bespoke cufflinks that I designed at local jewellers, Camilla Jones.

At the end of the wedding breakfast , one of the waiters dropped a tray of cutlery over the floor and was very apol ogetic. He then burst into song! Unbeknown to us, my mum and dad had hired a singing waiter as a surprise for the day, which really got the party started.
The staff at The Fleece Inn were just incredible. They turned the venue around for the meal without us even noticing, and nothing was too much trouble. We also had family members who helped make our day special, particularly with the decorative touches, but our master of ceremonies really made the day run smoothly. He added a personal touch and linked the speeches together so well with his own mini-speeches in between.
For our honeymoon, we went to French Polynesia for two weeks. It was a dream holiday, we stayed in overwater bungalows, and it was just incredible sitting on our balcony at night watching the blacktip reef sharks swim underneath us. We can’t wait to save up the pennies to go back there someday.

Preparing for a COVID-19 secure outdoor consultation
Q – Tell us about your company. I’m a harpist specialising in weddings and am passionate about helping couples have the best day possible. My many different harps are available for all situations, and amplification can be provided if required. I can play a wide variety of musical genres, according to your tastes. Q – What should couples expect when booking your services? When couples book my services, I give my full commitment to providing the perfect music for the ceremony, drinks reception or wedding breakfast. To that end, I offer a free consultation at my home for couples to see and hear the harps and discuss musical options. This can take place in my COVID-19 secure covered outdoor space or indoors if Government guidelines allow. Q – What packages do you offer? My charges depend on the date, location and which part of the wedding need my services. My minimum cost is £290 for any part of the wedding. For two parts, such as the ceremony and drinks reception, I would typically charge £390. I don’t charge by the hour as I’ve found weddings rarely run on time, so I prefer to charge for the event and then it doesn’t matter if everything runs a bit late.
A selection of wedding harps
Q – How long before the wedding should couples book? I work alone and only play one wedding a day, so it’s essential to book as soon as you have secured your date and venue to avoid disappointment. Q – What’s your favourite part of the job? My favourite part of playing at weddings is contributing to a couple’s happiness. I feel privileged to be part of such an important occasion, and I love every moment of it. Q – Do you have any top tips for couples? Make sure you hear the music played live before committing and book as early as you can. 59

MEET LYNETTE WEBSTER FROM CAPRICCIO QUARTET 07813 130 888 | www.capriccioquartet.co.uk Q – Tell us about your company. I set up Capriccio Quartet 20 years ago this June. I always wanted to be part of a string quartet, so I set up the company, and our first gig was for my dad’s 60th birthday. We have a long history, Graham joined the group and has been working with me since almost the beginning, and we’ve since found new players who have joined us along the way.
Q – How long before the wedding should couples book? The sooner, the better. We have weddings that have been postponed for the third time and new bookings, so our diary, even though it keeps moving forward, is absolutely packed. We have weddings scheduled for 2023, so please book as soon as possible. Q – What’s your favourite part of the job? I absolutely adore what we do and am very passionate about the music we play. We get to perform different genres but find we are requested to play mostly contemporary, pop and film music. We love playing at weddings, it’s such a pleasure to bring music to the table that couples and guests love. It’s always appreciated, and it’s great being part of our couples’ special days. Q – Do you have any top tips for couples? Book as soon as possible to avoid any disappointment and keep in mind that lots of couples have had to postpone. If you have any song requests, then we’re more than happy to learn them, especially for your big day. We often get asked to do this, so don’t feel worried to ask. 60
www.purpleswanphoto.myportfolio.com
Q – What packages do you offer? We don’t offer set packages but instead offer our services based on the time required. We’re often booked to play as the bride enters the room, the signing of the register, the couple’s exit and drinks reception, which usually comes to two or two and a half hours.
www.purpleswanphoto.myportfolio.com
Q – What should couples expect when booking your services? When couples get in touch via phone or email, we will send across a price list to give them a better idea of the services we offer.

MEET MAGICIAN, ANGUS BASKERVILLE 07854 772 946 | www.angusbaskerville.com Q – Tell us about your company. I’m a professional magician and member of The Magic Circle. I’m based in the West Midlands and regularly perform at weddings large and small across the UK.
Q – How long before the wedding should couples book? This is entirely your choice. Obviously, the earlier you book, the more likely the date will be available, but I will always do my best to accommodate at short notice. With so many couples sadly having to postpone their weddings more than once or twice in some cases, it seems everyone is certainly ready to be entertained to make up for lost time! Q – What’s your favourite part of the job? Performing at weddings is my favourite part of the job! I’ve worked in different arenas, both on stage and close-up, but there’s always something so special about being part of someone’s big day. I consider it such a privilege to be able to add value to what is already such a joyful event and to be able to establish connections through the medium of magic. Q – Do you have any top tips for couples? Your day is all about you, and the further you can plan in advance to ensure that all angles are covered, the easier it will be on the day for you to relax and enjoy it. Magic is a great ice breaker for people who are meeting for the first time, so it’s a perfect addition before the wedding breakfast. If you’re planning an evening where different loved ones are joining you, the time between the speeches and the new guests arriving is a good time to use magic to occupy and entertain. This helps mingling and adds energy after sitting down for a long period. Entertaining guests is also a good way to take the pressure off the bride and groom as it keeps the guests occupied while they have their photographs taken. Magic, I feel, sends people away from your special day with extra special memories.
www.mariewongphotography.com
Q – What packages do you offer? I put together a bespoke package for every couple once I have ascertained their requirements. The price depends on the guest list, age range attending and how the entertainment slots in with the plan for the day. The packages I offer generally consist of close-up table magic between courses, mingling during the reception and photographs, close-up before and after the speeches and a 30-45 minute stage/cabaret show after dinner.

PRETTY IN PINK
Q – I love pink and want to incorporate the hue into my wedding dress. Do you have any ideas of how I can do this without it being over the top?
IT’S SHOWTIME!
Q – We’re having a much smaller wedding than we first planned, but we still want impressive entertainment. How can we find the perfect supplier? There are many positives to a more intimate event with just your closest friends and family. Smaller numbers can bring the wow factor with magical entertainment, where every guest is made to feel almost as special as the bride and groom. A magician can provide close-up tricks in between courses as there is generally a more relaxed vibe at a smaller wedding. Everyone gets more time to take it all in and make important memories. Magic is perfect for when the photographs are being taken, as the bride and groom don’t need to feel pressured to hurry back to their guests. Children love magic and do tend to get bored during speeches. Have you considered booking a side room for the youngest ones to hang out? If there are children, organise a short magic show while the speeches take place. Before booking, decide on a budget and inform your supplier so you can discuss your requirements. I have performed at different types of weddings, both in terms of theme and numbers of guests, and I always advise my couples on what will work best for their circumstances. Angus Baskerville Magician www.angusbaskerville.com
Firstly, if any of you lovely brides know our boutique, you’ll know we love pink! Designers are beginning to incorporate different colours and shades into their creations, so it’s a really exciting time to be buying your wedding dress. Style 8953 by Justin Alexander is a gorgeous gown in a soft, subtle shade of pink. It has a vintage-inspired deep V-neckline with a pleated waistband and hand-beaded lace appliqués that float across the English net skirt. This style is also available in a raised neckline for those who want a little more coverage. Our gorgeous 3D Cruz by Sottero and Midgley floral detail gown, Cruz, is the most amazing statement dress with a hint of pink. This gown is available in the misty mauve shade, which is a lovely soft tone. If you aren’t feeling daring enough to have colour in your wedding gown, then you could opt for a completely plain crepe gown coupled with a statement pink bouquet and bridesmaids’ dresses. This will ensure your hue flows through the theme and you stand out. Bronagh Power Wedding dress specialist www.tdr-bridal.co.uk 65
FRESHLY PICKED IDEAS
Q – My wife-to-be and I are looking for a florist, but there are so many to choose from, and we’re feeling a little overwhelmed. What do you suggest? Before you begin your search, set a budget and decide are your flowers going to be a major part of your day or a finishing touch? Be realistic about what you want to spend and scale your plans accordingly. Here are some of my top tips: ❤ If you loved your friend’s wedding flowers, ask who did them. ❤ Google local florists and see what images and websites you’re drawn to. Think of keywords that describe the style you want, such as wildflower wedding, English country and modern wedding flowers. ❤ Do an image search for florists in your area and explore those which appeal to you most. ❤ When contacting suppliers, think do they sound friendly, helpful and interested? Remember that weddings have a long lead time, and you may be working together for months/years, so it’s important that you get on. Do they understand the style you have in mind? Is it something they do a lot? ❤ Do you just want lovely flowers or to have a say in every detail? Your own feelings about this may effect who would suit you best! Does your chosen florist understand how much involvement you want to have? Carole Patilla Florist www.tuckshopflowers.com
DELECTABLE DELIGHTS
Q – After postponing our wedding due to the pandemic, we’ve decided to have a small celebration, and a big cake doesn’t seem right. What other options are there? There are many ways you can still have the cake of your dreams at a smaller wedding. Here are a few of my top tips: ❤ Right on-trend for the coming wedding season are floating tiers. Achieved using a sidebar that can be decorated with foliage, flowers or crystal beads, it gives the illusion of a floating top tier. Creating a tall, elegant cake without extra portions. ❤ Alternatively, you could opt for the illusion of a clear tier using an acrylic dummy. This can be left empty or filled with flowers, crystals, baubles or decorated with a stencil feature to tie in with your theme or centrepieces. ❤ If you would prefer something more traditional, then opt for a dummy tier as your base, decorated as a real cake would be, and no one will ever know that it’s not real. You could cover the dummy base with flowers, and/or foliage to match your bouquet. ❤ Whether you’ve decided to opt for a singer tier cake or to make a statement by having a double-barrelled design, let the decorations do the talking. Use a mixture of textures and sugar flowers, and display it on a footed cake stand which will look simply stunning. Jackie Diamond Cake specialist www.facebook.com/jackiediamondcakes 66

REGIONAL SHOOT
A team of local suppliers worked together to create these gorgeous images at Hanbury Wedding Barn Images courtesy of Stott Weddings
T
his luxurious styled shoot took place at the charming Hanbury Wedding Barn. Gayle Carr-Willis from The Bridal Rooms tells us more: “With so many dresses arriving at The Bridal Rooms during lockdown, I wanted the opportunity to showcase their beauty and work with some of the best suppliers in Staffordshire. We wanted to inspire brides with a contemporary style and seasonal colours, paired with original features from the family-run Hanbury Wedding Barn. The venue was the perfect blank canvas for us to create beautiful images. Each supplier brought to the table their unique style and artistic flair. With details from fine and dry florals, chic tableware, delicate stationery and modern backdrops to pore over, plus dreamy bridalwear and a bespoke cake, there are ideas galore for almost every element of the big day. We wanted something very creative to give the wow factor but not so over the top that real brides couldn’t relate, so we added the foliage wall to create a touch of luxury and texture to the room. It also provided a stunning backdrop for photos and is perfect for the first dance.” 69

igh Grosvenor House, a stunning wedding venue with panoramic views of the rolling Shropshire countryside, made the perfect backdrop for this styled shoot. Sarah Greenhouse from Yours Truly Weddings & Events says: “I wanted to create a harmonious occasion by blending muted pastel colours with a hint of blush pink to complement the venue’s natural charm. I collaborated with hand-picked local suppliers who produced an artisan feel with floristry, venue dressing, a photo booth, stationery, favours and classic cars. All the intricate details were captured by Mat James Photography, and the drone footage perfectly encapsulated the look we wanted to create.” 73

T
his elegant shoot is full of gorgeous greenery and statement black and white decorations. To find out more about the images, we spoke to the photographer, Charlotte Mail: “I think minimalism works so well with this colour palette – it reminds me of evergreens in winter. I wanted a showstopping centrepiece for the ceremony photos – something that would give the wow factor whilst complementing the bride and groom, rather than distracting from them. I decided on a circular arch covered in foliage and white flowers, and
everything else was styled around it. I had the incredible, Tuckshop Flowers on board to create the look I wanted, and they also created a bouquet that matched our theme perfectly. “Instead of a traditional red lip, I opted for a cranberry colour which felt fresh yet still glam which Nicola Honey Artistry styled perfectly. To finish the look, I worked with Written By Emily to design an elegant calligraphy-filled black and white invitation suite for the venue, complete with a beautiful illustration of the building.” 77

True love
This styled shoot has it all from beautiful styling and red roses to a showstopping dress Images courtesy of New Road Photography
M
icro-weddings have been slowly increasing in popularity in recent years and when the world suddenly changed in 2020, many couples’ plans altered with it. The past year has seen an explosion of smaller nuptials that refused to let the pandemic get in the way of their love. “I brought together a team of local suppliers to showcase the beauty of microweddings with a rustic, autumnal feel,” says photographer, Craig Clewlow. “Showcasing The Moat House, a beautiful Staffordshire venue, as the background for this styled shoot, all the suppliers got on board with the vision and worked hard
to pull it together. From the elegant cake with delicate leaf detailing to the stationery and venue styling – even the florist went foraging in local areas and their own garden to use as much green foliage as they could. The photo booth blended into the scenery with ease, showing how fun elements can sit well within your theme. “The couple, recently married themselves, were dressed to impress, and the hair and make-up team really accentuated the bride’s beauty. The jewellery was the finishing touch, and when captured, the bride and groom were a vision to behold.” 81

GREAT EXPECTATIONS
Q – What can I expect from a bridal boutique appointment? I can’t speak for every boutique, but I can tell you about our process. When our customers arrive, they are met by either myself or my amazing assistant manager, Kyla. You’ll be offered a drink, somewhere to sit, and we will ask you to fill in a profile form. Don’t worry, this isn’t anything scary – just questions to find out more about your wedding, such as the date and theme. This will allow us to tailor your appointment to suit your needs. We then go through the form, before coming to sit with you to discuss your requirements. We don’t believe in pressure selling and want you to feel as comfortable as possible. It’s not in anyone’s interest for you to be bullied into buying something you’re not 100 per cent sure about or can’t afford. Budgets are always taken into account, which is why we prefer to go through the layout of the shop with you before you start browsing the rails. This is especially important as there is nothing worse than a bride being passed a dress by an eager friend, only to fall in love with it and then realise it’s twice her budget! In terms of what you need to bring, the answer is as simple as an open mind. You don’t need to worry about shoes, underwear – although having light-coloured pants is a good idea! The staff should be there to help you as much or as little as you need them too.

Q&A
Local experts offer advice on how to look your big-day best
TREND ALERT!
Q – What bridal hair and make-up styles are on-trend? If you would like an up do, then a low, soft loose bun is a great choice. Have wispy strands of hair gently framing your face and falling from the low bun to create a delicate, soft feel. I love this style with fresh flowers at the back or to the side. To complement your locks, opt for a gentle smoky eye, using more neutral colours to create a romantic feel. A glowing complexion and a soft lip would finish it off perfectly. If you would prefer your hair is out of the way, then a modern ponytail is the way forward. It’s not just a case of tying it back with a band, you can have twists or plaits or a simple ponytail with your tresses in beautifully structured waves. Decorate it with some simple pearl pins or something that complements your dress. With a style that is out of the way, you really want to show off your face. Invest in some high-quality contouring and a bold lip colour. One of my all-time favourites is the Hollywood wave. Brides are opting for long beautiful waves or soft curls with a decorative hairpiece attached to the side. For this look, try a stunning red or berry lip colour, assisted with a fresh-faced complexion, a natural eye colour, and a smudge of soft eyeliner on the bottom. Lashes are increasingly popular these days, I prefer to use cluster lashes on my brides, or an alternative is to have a lash lift treatment the week before the wedding. Finish with neat defined eyebrows and nothing too overpowering. The main thing to remember when deciding on your look is to make sure you feel beautiful and comfortable. Claire Harmer | Hair and make-up artist www.claireharmerbeauty.co.uk 96
SUMMER LOVING
Q – I need some ideas for a bridal hairstyle for my late-summer wedding. What do you suggest? Most brides have an idea of how they would like their hair to look. As I have many years of experience, I’ve found it’s all to do with the overall theme and keeping balance from head to toe. For example, your style will depend on the volume and length of your hair, your dresses neckline, choice of accessories, veil and jewellery. I love creating a soft, twisted chignon into the nape of the neck. It’s elegant and works well with tall brides. You can keep this look simple with little or no accessories. For vintage themes, tresses worn in an up do, cascaded high with a short veil, look great. For a real bespoke look, you can use a hat and peekaboo veil, which adds height and works with traditional tiaras. I must stress the importance of hair condition and colour before the wedding day as this can play a large part in the finished look. Keep it simple and beautiful. Julie Jackson | Hair stylist www.creativehairbyjulie.co.uk
HAIR CARE HERO
Q – I’ve seen some gorgeous pictures of messy buns and textured up dos, but my hair is so thin and straight. Can I still get this look? Many people assume that having fine, straight hair will stop them from creating their desired look. Messy buns and textured up dos are achievable by adding clip-in extensions and using padding to create extra volume. A good look is built on a great foundation. There are lots of lovely products that you can use when prepping your locks to add a bit more grit and body. My favourites are Schwarzkopf Volume Up and Dust It.
