A

modern-day romance, Tom and Dan met on Tinder in 2015. Tom proposed to Dan whilst on holiday in the Azores, Portugal. However, not without some obstacles along the way. Tom explains, “I Tried to set up a picnic but it was sold out at the hotel, so instead I had to buy a cheap bottle of fizz and some brie from the local corner shop. Then I’d picked a really romantic spot next to a small pond. However, at night it was pitch black and Dan refused to go down there as he thought it was like the start of a horror film! Anyhow, we ended up getting engaged next to the thermal spa on the steps with our bottle of unassigned fizz and lukewarm brie before having a swim.” Tom proposed with a Lego ring, as in the spirit of ‘inclusion’ he wanted to pick the rings together when they got back to Leeds. The theme of ‘inclusion’ was one very important to couple and was a prominent part of the wedding, making sure everyone felt equal and welcome. When newly engaged Tom and Dan arrived home, they visited a local jeweller in Leeds and had two engagement rings made together. Nuptial planning began and on 29th August 2021, at Bowcliffe Hall, they officially became Mr and Mr. Here, Tom and Dan tell us more about their special day...

Great EXPECTATIONS Bright colours set the scene when Caroline and George Rispin tied the knot at The Grand Hotel & Spa, York Images courtesy of Sam Chipman Photography

REAL WEDDINGS

C

aroline and George Rispin met at work in York back in 2014. Caroline tells us, “I loved George’s energy and humour – he made me laugh like nobody else and I remember one afternoon we were working together and were so engrossed in conversation that we just didn’t answer the phones! Everybody loves George when they meet him, he’s so fun to be around and he’s incredibly caring.” “We’re both very ambitious and are attracted to each other’s independent drive. We have such a strong bond because we share the same values – our relationship has been built upon trust, honesty, transparency, and an unwavering love and respect for one another.” Just like their high expectations in life they also had the same expectations in another area as Caroline jokes! “We were also looking for a partner with height! I’m 5ft 11, so I needed a tall man and he’s 6ft 5 – so I’ll be forever looking up to him!” In September 2019, at Hipping Hall Boutique Hotel, George popped the question. Caroline recalls, “It was the most special and shocking moment of my life, I had an out of body experience, I didn’t quite know what to do.” The next thing to do was plan a wedding! So, planning preparations began and on July 31st, 2021 the pair got married at The Grand Hotel & Spa, York. The party continued on into the night at The Larder Club in York for the couple’s evening reception. Here, Caroline tells us more about their day...

SETTING THE SCENE The happy couple both knew immediately that they wanted to get married in York, a fond place they lived and shared so many memories. After viewing three venues, they chose The Grand Hotel & Spa. Caroline describes, “It’s a beautiful building, you can’t miss it and everywhere you look is full of character and charm. I absolutely loved the boardroom which is where we got married with the chandeliers and big fireplaces and the views of York – you don’t need to do too much decorating because it’s already impressive enough as it is. It was exactly what we wanted and we knew that they’re experienced in organising weddings so we’d be in very good hands! Bright and bold was the order of the day when it came to décor. “It reflects who we are and how we dress,” Caroline explains. “We both like to wear bright and bold colours! We spoke to our incredible florist, Laura and basically just said we want as much colour as possible with a mix of different types of flowers – we don’t just want roses – give us whatever you can get and experiment! We still can’t get over how absolutely stunning the flowers were. We had jars of flowers as the centrepieces of our tables with candelabras which perfectly complemented the old charm of the room. We also had flowers on the fireplaces and candles for a romantic ambience. In my eyes the biggest advantage of having vivid, bright coloured flowers is how much they contrast to your wedding dress – they stand out so much more. Caroline and George also purchased some coloured confetti cannons which the groomsmen and Man of Honour fired as they were walking back down the aisle which made for fantastic photos! Infamous Betty’s had to play a part in the big day. “We absolutely love Betty’s and have so many fond memories of that place. We had the amazing Fondant Fancy three-tiered wedding cake with personalised designs – this was such a hit with all our guests, they could all have a fondant fancy instead of a messy big slice of cake! Our favours were gold Betty’s guinea coins which looked lovely on our tables. George used to sell balloons as a child, so we wanted to incorporate them into our date – we had some massive white balloons with green foliage from a wonderful local supplier in Copmanthorpe, The Little Balloon Company, and they were dotted around the venue too.” 29 

LOOKING THE PART Caroline chose her Enzoani Nigella gown from the Scarlet Poppy Bridal Boutique. She remembers, “When I tried this one on, I fell in love with all the small beautiful intricate details such as the buttons all down the back of the dress, the lace train, the side see-through lace panels, the lace at the front with some sparkle and the delicate straps – it’s elegant yet also sexy. George and his groomsmen wore the same suit from Moss Bros, a green tweed three-piece. Caroline’s two bridesmaids wore navy blue chiffon dresses and her Man of Honour wore a complementing suit.

TIME TO CELEBRATE! Caroline and George chose a string quartet to give the perfect ambience to the day. Caroline tells us, “The quartet for the ceremony was extra special because the celloist was one of George’s good friends who offered to play for us. They were absolutely incredible and when I heard them as I was walking towards the boardroom, I couldn’t contain my emotions. Because I was so late walking down the aisle they did however have to improvise and play songs that they hadn’t prepared for!” After the newlyweds first dance at The Grand, they said goodbye to family and along with all of their friends, went to The Larder Club in York for an evening reception. Caroline explains, “We wanted to have something separate with our friends so we could let our hair down and not be concerned about our terrible dancing in front of our parents! The Larder Club was the perfect evening venue for us, it was the first time they’d ever done a wedding reception − the owners Jon, Laura and Rachel were so accommodating, they tailored the evening completely for us and turned their deli /cafe into a cosy evening event with photos of us and our friends in frames all around. Our amazing balloon supplier, Karen of the Little Balloon Company, even sourced us some balloons that perfectly matched the teal colour of the Larder Club.”

MEMORABLE MOMENTS When asked how to describe the day, they both agree, “Nervous and excited sums it up! George had to buy himself a biscuit from a bakery to keep his sugar levels up! It was just the most surreal feeling waking up in the morning and knowing you’re getting married to the love of your life in front of the people who you love the most. Caroline particularly loved the morning, getting ready with her three best friends and vividly recalls when one of her bridesmaids opened the door to my room and just screamed ‘LETS GET YOU MARRIED!’ This simply set the tone for the whole fun-filled day! Caroline reminisces about another magical moment, “Walking down the aisle with my Dad and the string quartet playing – it’s a dream I’ve had since I was a young girl and I’m so incredibly thankful that I was able to do that although I definitely walked a lot quicker than what I had rehearsed with my Dad, I was practically dragging him down the aisle.” The pair had the day they’d dreamed of and know that it wouldn’t have been possible without their wonderful suppliers to assist them before and during the day. “Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for more genuine and talented people. Sam, our photographer, was incredible – there were moments I completely forgot where he was but he was always there taking the most incredible photos of us – photos that we’ll look back on for the rest of our lives and remember how beautiful we once were!

CAROLINE’S TOP TIP! Ignore tradition and do you! 30

EAST MEETS

Louise and Zain tied the knot at Whirlowbrook Hall in a fusion wedding with British and south Asian influences Images courtesy of Ryan Browne Photography

L

ouise and Zain first met when Louise was a medical student and Zain was running a revision session for finals as a second-year doctor. Zain proposed at sunset on a beach in Gili Meno, Indonesia. Louise remembers, “He’d been shopping the day before we flew for a ring and chose it by himself. I had no idea and we’d never really spoke about getting married. He had already asked my dad for permission, who responded with ‘Are you sure?!’” The wedding plans commenced and even though neither wanted a big wedding they had large families so needed a venue that would tick all the boxes. They chose the charming Whirlowbrook Hall in Sheffield and on 11th September, 2021, tied the knot. Here, Louise tells us more about their day… 33

I really liked how extensive the grounds were and thought it would be nice for the guests to enjoy.

The capacity was big enough for all our close friends and family but not too big that it was impersonal. All of our décor was monochrome themed as I thought the guest’s outfits would be very colourful so I needed to add no more.

There was a private bridal room to get ready upstairs, a nice sitting room for a bit of quiet time – I even put some board games there.

We had three tiers of lemon, Victoria sponge and chocolate cake with buttercream icing made by my mother and decorations from Ivy Mae.

I wanted white flowers with lots of foliage. 34

REAL WEDDINGS

Our table names were our favourite places we’ve travelled together. Zain is a keen photographer.

The main room had large letters spelling ‘Love’ on the dancefloor and fairylights around the main room and bar ceiling.

The day canapés, mocktails and wedding breakfast were supplied by My Lahore. We had all the mocktails, but virgin mojito was favourite.

For the evening reception, we had street food by Whirlowbrook’s in-house caterers.

I wore a white offthe-shoulder fusion gown and veil with pearl and crystal embroidery from Mongas, London (a compromise between Asian, what Zain’s mum wanted, and a white wedding dress, what my mum wanted).

Zain wore a navy and heavy gold embroidered Shawani from The Desi Groom in London. He was incredibly glittery, so yes, he very much stood out. I had Mehndi done on my feet, hands, arms and legs by Preet two days before at home, prior to our joint Mehndi party. My bridesmaids had small designs on their hands. My design was freestyle with Zains initials hidden on my palms. 35

The River Quartet played the aisle music (Portuguese Love Song to enter and All the Small Things to exit). They also played at the drink’s reception.

The speeches were so touching. We had a videographer to record them all so we can watch them back. For the evening receptions we had the resident DJ from Whirlowbrook and a campervan photobooth.

LOUISE’S TOP TIPS! Have a pretty planner and use it for contacts, prices and important dates! Research and book suppliers early and also use your family and friends to craft! Its great fun and things don’t have to be perfect.

I felt sick with nerves the night before, however, on the day I had the best time. I felt so happy (and relieved) it all went well. Zain was smiling all day.

My grandad danced more that week than he had done in the last 60 years! My dad (who doesn’t dance either) dancing to pop-punk persuading all guests to come and dance was memorable.

MODERN REGENCY With the popular Netflix series, Bridgerton, releasing a second season in March this shoot was perfectly timed to inspire brides who enjoy the finer things in life – with a whole lot of sass! Images courtesy of Clare Coleman Photography

O

rganised by Ellen Davies from LND Events, this shoot, styled at Camblesforth Hall gives a modern twist to a historical setting. Ellen explains, “The hall is a Grade I listed building, so it felt appropriate to have something that worked with the style of the surroundings. With so much focus on modern Regency thanks to programmes like Bridgerton, this felt a great direction to work with. Naomi Ward, Camblesforth Hall’s owner, however, also wanted to take inspiration from a darker pallet to suit the style naturally emerging from the renovation of the barns so I looked at other regency-based programmes such as BBC2’s Harlet’s.” From funky balloons and neon lights to stunning lace-up boots, there’s so many angles to take inspiration from. 39

FROM THE INSIDE OUT! What are your top bridal beauty tips? Preparation. With beauty treatments and regimes, begin these a good few months before the big day; facials, nails, haircare and skincare! Try and sleep as well as possible and drink plenty of water in the run up to the day and only use beauty professionals you trust. Also, stick to what you know and like! A big change in skincare can mean changes to your skin which aren’t always ideal. Filiz Ozakinci | Studio Sister www.studiosister.co.uk

Q&A

Local experts offer advice on how to look your big-day best FIT FOR A QUEEN My mum, mother of the bride, is after something to really glam up her outfit – what’s her must have accessory? For a bride, a wedding is the most special day, for a mother it’s the proudest day. You’ll find most of your female guests will have as much of an eye on mother of the bride as they do the blushing bride! Looking and feeling like a million dollars is a must for your mother. Standing the test of time, the classic accessory to add ultimate glam to any outfit is of course a hat. Hats instantly transform an outfit from ordinary to extraordinary, evoking feelings of beauty and confidence. Just imagine your mother wearing a hat that not only makes her feel like this, but also holds a special meaning and is bespoke-made for her. A hat can be a reflection of personality − be it fun and flamboyant, elegant and understated or bold and contemporary. A bespoke hat is designed with your mother; colour matched and can even embrace her outfit material − not something the high-street can offer. A well-designed hat is guaranteed to glam up her outfit. If your mother is excited, nervous or intrigued about this opportunity to wear beautiful headwear, then seek advice. A good try on session can make all the difference, and be an enjoyable activity for both mother and daughter. Milliners can guide, advise and give her the confidence to feel fantastic wearing a hat. Every mother of the bride deserves to be stunningly beautiful which echoes her important role on the day. Encourage her to wear her crown. She’ll make a statement without saying a word. Valerie Wyvill | Valerie Millinery Collections www.valeriemillinerycollections.com 58

CROWNING GLORY I’m getting married next spring and would love to incorporate some of the season’s best flowers into my hair. Do you have any ideas of how I can do this? A floral crown is very on trend. I’d recommend spring flowers of muscari, gypsophilia, ranunculus, David Austin roses, tulips, astilbe, and wallflower. To keep it fresh, spray a light mist of water on it! Colette Ashley | Colette Ashley Floral Creations www.coletteashleyfloralcreations.co.uk

SMOOTH OPERATOR

Award-winning haircare brand, Innersense Organic Beauty, has launched Serenity Smoothing Cream (£24), a nutrient-rich formula suitable for all hair types delivering a flawless and bouncy blow dry with a sleek look. Baobab and frangipani help to lock in moisture, as well as providing care for hair exposed to heated styling tools and strengthening strands without weighing them down. Meanwhile, vitamin-rich mango seed butter, avocado and coconut oils nourish and boost hydration while smoothing the cuticle to reduce frizz. Find it at www.naturisimo.com 60

A GROWER, NOT A THROWER

Recycling in the beauty industry is notoriously difficult, but here’s a clever invention by award-winning eco-pencil company Sprout World, designed not only to reduce waste, but to give something beautiful and useful back to the planet – recycling at its finest I have to say! Introducing Sprout Makeup Pencils (£9.95), the world’s first zero-waste plantable make-up pencils. Yep, plantable! Just use as normal and instead of throwing them away when they become too small to use, flip them around, stick the end into a pot of damp soil and ta-da – beautiful, bee-friendly wildflowers will start to sprout within 1-2 weeks. Check out www.sproutworld.com

CHILLED-OUT SKIN

Adaptogens have been used for thousands of years in ancient Chinese medicine and ayurvedic remedies to help mitigate the effects of stress on the body, and until recently have mostly been used in herbal supplements and teas to regulate stress levels. But they could also offer the solution to stressed-out skin. MARA Volcanic Sea Clay Detox Masque (£48) contains aswagandha, a skin-strengthening herb and adaptogen powered by antioxidants, which works to fight free radicals, boost hydration and soothe stressed-out, blemish-prone skin. Find it at www.cultbeauty.co.uk

BYE, BYE DRY

Have the ravages of winter left your skin dry, dull, sensitive, flaky and tight? As we embrace the spring, get your glow back with Q+A Snow Algae Intensive Face Cream (£12). If, like me, you’re reaching for Google, allow me to explain. Snow algae, also known as watermelon snow, is a species of green algae containing astaxanthin, a potent antioxidant great at improving dryness, sun damage and protecting against free radicals. I’ve only been using it for a couple of days and my dry skin is already showing signs of improvement. Find it at www.qandaskin.com

YOU CAN IMPROVE ON PERFECTION!

Now reformulated to be vegan-friendly and even more comfortable with an extended shade range suitable for all skin tones, Huda Beauty proves that the perfect liquid matte lipstick does exist. The non-drying formula delivers a oneswipe application of vibrant colour coverage with up to eight hours of staying power that every bride needs and is flake-, streak-, smudge-, and transferproof. It also now boasts the thinnest possible texture thanks to the brand’s unique L.O.V.E complex (lycopene, olive oil, vitamin A and E, essential fatty acids) helping to keep lips supple all day long. EYE LOVE THIS!

FREEZE FRAME

Having seen Skin Proud Frozen Over (£16.95) go viral on TikTok I was keen to know more about this cryotherapy gel moisturiser. Designed to combat tired and puffy skin in desperate need of a pick me up, the gel-to-ice moisturiser hydrates and cools. Infused with anti-inflammatory aloe vera extract and hyaluronic acid it also works to lock in moisture and calm the skin. It can be used as is or popped in the freezer for a slush-like texture and extra-cooling relief. Find it at www.boots.com

Hot on FeelUnique at the moment is Vichy Mineral 89 Eye Brightening Serum with hyaluronic acid and caffeine (£20). This multi-tasker is designed to lighten the appearance of dark circles, make eye bags less visible, hydrate and plump the sensitive eye area for 24 hours and protect the skin’s barrier function. It can even make eyelashes appear stronger and feel silkier. I love the instantly soothing effect it has on the delicate eye area after scrubbing away to remove make-up. It’s an all-round little hero and you can find it at www.feelunique.com 61

Somewhere to suit your individual needs is essential, if you have some of your ideas already, then make it clear what you’re hoping for on your big day from the start so you know if your venue can cater for this. We strive to achieve everything our couples desire to make their day as special as possible for them. A venue without a flexible structure means you may not have the choices to make your day just as you’d like it, to compromise for such a special event is not ideal. MIDNIGHT MAGIC What are your suggestions for creative night-time shots? I love night-time photos and if my couples are up for it, I never say no. There are always plenty of opportunities for these kind of wedding shots whether you plan them or not. Sparklers exits are very popular and seen as one of the most romantic shots. They’re supposed to happen when you exit your ceremony site although these are often taken a lot earlier during a wedding do. Fireworks. If there are any fireworks during your wedding, a picture with them will make an amazing photograph that you’ll never forget! During your wedding when everyone is dancing the night away, I’ll always look for creative night-time shots. These can literally happen everywhere and most of them don’t take much time. Venue lights always make for a nice backdrop. If you’re working with a photographer who knows how to work with light, try taking this shot at night when there’s low lighting! It will capture the romance of the evening and add some mystery to your shot. Whether it’s your venue lit up at night, dimmed lights of your reception room or street lights, combined with a touch of flash light it can inject a magical touch into your wedding photos. Michal Ufniak | Ufniak Photography www.ufniak.co.uk 63

ROLLING STONES I want my wedding band to be a bit different, what stones would work well? First establish whether you’re a ‘hard wearer’ of jewellery i.e., does your current jewellery exhibit signs of heavy wear and tear like indentations or scratches on the surface? The gentler you are with your jewellery, the more choice of stone type you have as you can consider the inclusion of softer stones in your ring like topaz, citrine and amethyst. As wedding bands are usually worn every day and often come into repeated contact with a wide range of hard surfaces, my practical advice would be to lean towards stones of a durable nature. Diamonds, sapphires and rubies are usually safe bets and represent a wide choice in terms of stone colour. Sapphires and diamonds are available in a rainbow of colours − although you may need to remortgage your house for a sizeable blue diamond! The choice of stone, the metal and even the style of the wedding ring is largely determined by your choice of engagement ring. The wedding band is there to complement the engagement ring, not outshine it. I’m not saying that the wedding band needs to mimic, match or even fit the engagement ring but there must be some sort of synergy between the two rings otherwise the finger can look like a very small car crash. Select a piece that is timeless. The wedding ring is to be worn for decades so be cautious of a stone or style of the moment. Teal green sapphires may be all the rage today, but will you tire of it after 10 years? Most important is to consider what the wedding ring symbolises for you. What story does it tell and how does it embody your relationship? The wedding ring is the symbol of a union, but every story of a union is different. Consider how, in some way, that story might be expressed in the design of your ring and if you can’t find anything that you can relate to, engage a jeweller to realise your story in a bespoke design. Whilst exploring the possibility of including stones in your wedding ring is a beautiful journey of discovery, remain open to the conclusion that the perfect ring for you and your engagement ring is one without stones! The Andrew Geoghegan Sunray is a perfect example of a wedding ring that’s fundamentally different in approach and design from the engagement ring, yet the two come together to tell a story. When worn with a vintage cluster ring for example, it elevates and modernises without being fashionable and faddy. Finally, the overall design of the wedding ring is the key consideration. If stones will feature isn’t the starting point, more a question for the journey of discovering your perfect piece. Andrew Geoghegan www.andrewgeoghegan.com 64

BRITISH BOUQUETS What bouquet designs are currently on trend? The wedding bouquet style I’m finding on trend for this season is a very natural, organic handtied style. A number of my brides for this year are championing sustainability and are requesting British flowers. This is fantastic for our industry as we have such a fabulous array of seasonal British flowers available during our summer wedding season. The brides that have requested British flowers are leaving the flower selection up to me as we’re dependent on the weather and availability so on the wedding morning there’s an element of surprise as the bride doesn’t know what to expect, which can be very nerve-wracking as I hope when I arrive my bride is happy with the finished bouquet. TRANSPORT

Arrive in style Tips and advice for choosing your big-day wheels

P

erhaps choosing your big-day transport won’t be above the priority of finding your dream wedding venue, flowers, dress or honeymoon, however, as it’s a key factor in the on-the-day proceedings – getting you to and from your desired locations – it really should be high up on the agenda. After all, the ceremony can’t start until you’re there to say ‘I do’!

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION Once the wedding venue has been chosen, then all the finer details can follow. For rustic settings, such as barns and teepees in fields, a classic Rolls Royce may look a little out of place. You can be inspired by your surroundings and choose your transport accordingly; a Land Rover or retro campervans would make a great choice for al fresco boho-themed days and will look supercool in the photos giving that ‘70s-vibe. If you’ve decided you want a classic country house mansion, in acres of land – quite literally in the middle of nowhere – then a classic vintage car will epitomise the feel of the day. However, as beautiful as these cars are, they’re vintage for a reason, so check with your chosen supplier that the distance to the venue is suitable for your classic ride.

If choosing a fleet of cars for your bridal party, plan with the venue that driveways are kept clear and that there’s plenty of room for each car to arrive simultaneously. Does your venue have an area where the cars can wait between the ceremony and reception, and is there a picture-perfect spot for the all-important bridal portraits with the car? When it comes to location, if your ceremony venue and reception venue aren’t at the same place, have you factored in transporting your guests from one to another? Have both venues’ locations been given out in the invites for people to plan their route in advance? If you’re tying the knot in the city, or busy town, are there parking restrictions? It’s worth giving guests a list of taxi numbers in the surrounding area so that they are well prepared ahead of the day.

67

MAKE IT PERSONAL Your wedding day transport can be another aspect of the wedding that you utilise to reflect your personalities. If you’re music-loving Rockabillies think about a Chevrolet Corvette, Ford Skyliner and Cadillac Coupe deVille. Movie fans? Then go-all out with a James Bondstyle Aston Martin, or John Wick’s Mustang. There’s a whole host of movies to be inspired by so if you need an idea, arrange a date night and get watching! Be sure to check out our inspirational local shoot on page 86 which features a VW Splitscreen Campervan from Mae Dae, we love the bohemian vibes it gives out!

CHECK LIST

PSSST DID YOU KNOW? Established in 1990 in Huddersfield, Cartwright’s Courtesy Cars provides a superior chauffeur driven service for all occasions. Furthermore, it offers a great choice of 18 cars. The fleet comprises of 14 vintage-style wedding cars, a Chrysler 300C, a Jaguar XJS, a 1968 Pink Cadillac and a stunning Ferrari F430 Spider. For further information, visit https://cartwrightscars.co.uk

68

❤ Saftey – always work with a reputable supplier who can look after the insurance and safety guidance for you! Some vintage cars don’t have seat belts – great for not creasing the dress but not great for little ones travelling with you. ❤ Extras – having your favourite bottle of bubbles, music of your favourite songs, colour matching ribbons etc are all ways to personalise your vehicle. Check what the supplier can and cannot suply and whether you are allowed to BYOB? ❤ Space – how many adults are travelling? Who’s sharing with who? If there’s a change over, i.e. the wedding couple come back in the car the bridesmaids were in, then don’t forget to arrange alternative transport for the bridesmaids to get to the second venue – you can’t leave them at the church! ❤ Backup – this is where hiring a professional company will be worth it’s wait in gold, as they will have more than one car and chauffeur in the event of unforeseen circumstances! Yes, taking your friend up on the offer of driving you is a nice idea, but you don’t want that stress on the day if they can’t do it, the car’s broken down or they now have Covid! ❤ Plan – check out routes, is there road works, allow time for running late and hold ups, yes your car hire company will do this, but will your guests? Remind them!

LOVE ME DO WEDDING CARS

Tell us a bit about your company. When did you open and why? The company was formed in 2015. After taking a friend to a wedding in my Aston Martin I decided to market the car as a surprise method of transport for the groom. I was looking for a new business venture and this combined my love for cars and being a part of someone’s special day. What vehicles do you offer the wedding party? We have two white VW Campervans, a Morris Minor, Beauford, VW Beetle, a Chrysler and a Ferrari. What services do you offer? We’re fully insured for weddings and funerals however almost all our work is for weddings. We offer multiple trips to and from the venue, surprise packages and transport options for all wedding styles and cultures.

What vehicle is currently the most popular? Our most popular vehicle is our VW Splitscreen Campervan, it can seat seven passengers so is perfect for the bridal party. What advice would you give to a bride trying to decide on her mode of transport. Choose a car which reflects your personality and don’t be afraid to go for something less traditional. It’s amazing how a wedding car can be a focal point for guests to have photos with too and generates a lot of interest. Why do you love working with weddings? Being a part of someone’s special day is really important to us, due to the nature of our vehicles it’s also nice to be able to take people to their wedding in a car they really love. Campervans have a massive following and in some cases the whole wedding is centred around the classic Campervan. Check out www.lovemedoweddingcars.co.uk

T

he goal of this shoot was simply to show how beautiful ‘just us two’ can be. Shoot organiser, Nisha, explains, “Intimate weddings have ruled for the last few years but the one thing I saw missing locally in Yorkshire, was the elopement. You tend to think of jetting off to a beach abroad, or the windy lakes when you think of elopements, not cherry blossom season on a cobbled street in a Campervan! Inside, the van had a really cosy feel to it, where you could drive anywhere, pull up and eat, laugh, dance and snuggle under the stars.”

Here come the girls County Wedding Magazines senior editor Melissa Barker shares her wedding planning journey

I

can’t believe that in just a few months time I’ll officially become Mrs Cullen – eek! Dave and I have been engaged since Christmas Day 2020 and are due to get married this July. With all of the uncertantity surrounding COVID-19 restrictions, it’s been quite a stressful journey. However, now that the date is drawing closer I’m finally starting to feel excited. In this issue, read all about my experience going shopping for the bridesmaids’ dresses.

DRESSED TO IMPRESS

a Monday when it was quieter and I’m so glad we did! The consultant was absolutely lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. She made Kelly feel amazing and we didn’t feel pressured at all. With no time constraint, Kelly was able to try on every dress that caught her eye – it was a struggle to choose just one, she looked and felt stunning in them all. She eventually chose the same dress as Olivia, and in my humble (non-biased) opinion, they all look fabulous and I can’t wait to walk down the aisle with my beautiful friends. Overall, shopping together was a nice experience and it was great spending time with the girls, but I’d definitely recommend that fellow brides-to-be start shopping for dresses sooner rather than later – particularly if you have got quite a few bridesmaids! I also can’t stress enough to avoid popular visiting times at your chosen boutiques. It will create a completely different experience and ensured everyone feels relaxed and can enjoy it. Check out the next issue where I’ll be discussing our search for the groomsmen’s outfits and a last-minute videographer.

Choosing who I wanted to be my bridesmaids was one of the easiest decisions I had to make. My sister-in-law, Nolwenn, has been part of the family for a few years now and I really wanted to involve her in our day, so I was pleased when she wanted to be one of my bridesmaids! I also asked my two best friends and fellow County Wedding Magazines editors, Kelly and Olivia, who were over the moon when I asked them (virtually) during one of the many lockdowns. With the easy bit done, we were on to the task of choosing their bridesmaids’ dresses. With conflicting schedules and unpredictable restrictions it was hard to decide on a date that worked for everyone but we were eventually able to book an appointment for the beginning of December 2021. Shopping for their outfits was one of the things I was most excited about when we got

engaged. I love all the girls dearly and really wanted them to feel special and a part of our big day, so making sure that they were comfortable was my number one priority. I wanted them to choose their own style and the only thing I asked was that all the dresses were sage green, which worked out perfectly as the girls all love that colour – it was meant to be! We booked a Saturday appointment and oh my gosh it was busy! The girls had to share a changing room and only managed to try on a handful of dresses before our time was up. What shocked us all was just how long the dresses take to come into the store. Starting our shopping eight months early we all thought we’d have plenty of time to shop around, but we found that all of the gowns wouldn’t be in the store until early May 2022, which would only leave us with two months for alterations – this of course, sent my stress levels through the roof! Despite all of the craziness and the insane amount of people in the boutique, Olivia and Nolwenn both managed to find their dresses on that first visit; Nolwenn opted for a sleeveless A-line gown and Olivia chose a similar style but with floaty off-the-shoulder straps. Kelly and I both felt overwhelmed by the first appointment, and sadly she came away empty handed, so we decided to go back on

Here are some things that we’ve learned during wedding planning.

BRIDE’S DIARY

VENUE

PHOTOGRAPHER

❤ Make sure a registrar or celebrant is available on your wedding day before confirming with the venue. ❤ Find out what is and what isn’t included in the booking price. ❤ Check whether your venue has any sound limiters or a curfew in place. ❤ Ensure the venue has liability insurance in case the worst was to happen. ❤ How will the venue handle poor weather or last-minute changes? ❤ Before booking, check the venue’s COVID-19 policies.

❤ If like me, you’re nervous or unsure in front of the camera book a prewedding shoot – it really does make a difference. ❤ Before booking, decide on what style of photography you like and set a budget. ❤ Lots of photographers don’t have prices stated on their website; find five you like and email them all asking for quotes so that you can compare. ❤ Find out how many images you’ll be receiving and how long your photographer will spend with you on the day. ❤ Most suppliers will require a meal, so factor that into your catering budget and check if they have any dietary requirements. ❤ You’ll be spending a large portion of the day with your photographer, so it’s important you get on well, and they make you feel relaxed.

FLOWERS ❤ Some flowers are seasonal and may not be available at the time of year you’re getting married, so be prepared to discuss this with your florist. ❤ Your supplier will have a wealth of knowledge and will be able to advise you on what blooms will suit your day. ❤ Check your quotes include VAT. ❤ Think carefully about if you’d like real or dried flowers. If you’re unsure it may be worth talking to a few different companies to discuss the pros and cons. ❤ Your florist should suggest ways you can save money, for example, re-using blooms from your ceremony for the reception. ❤ There are so many ways that you can preserve your flowers after the wedding, so it’s worth looking at your options.

WEDDING DRESS ❤ Try on a variety of styles to find what best suits your shape. ❤ Trust your bridal consultant and listen to their recommendations, after all, they’re the experts. ❤ Choose a dress that you feel comfortable in and makes you feel like the best version of yourself. ❤ Wear white or skin-coloured underwear to your appointment. ❤ Start shopping nine to 12 months before the wedding to ensure you have plenty of time to get the gown in-store and alterations to be done. ❤ The shopping process can be daunting, so don’t feel pressured to purchase a dress for the sake of it, when you find the right gown, you’ll know it. 73
