hello
&
statement
I BELIEVE THE KEY TO GREAT DESIGN IS A BALANCE OF PASSION, CREATIVITY AND LOGIC. MY PROFESSOR ONCE LECTURED, “PEOPLE DON’T NOTICE GOOD DESIGN, THEY ONLY RECOGNIZE POOR DESIGN AND GREAT DESIGN”. THE TOP RANKED BACHELORS OF INTERIOR DESIGN PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI HAS HELPED TRANSFORM MY CHILDHOOD PASSION FOR ART INTO A DESIGN CAREER. IT HAS ENHANCED MY SKILLS; ALLOWING ME TO TRANSFER IDEAS FROM MIND TO PAPER, FROM FINGERTIP TO RENDERING, AND FROM IMAGINATION TO REALITY. I HAVE DEVELOPED THE ABILITY TO ENVISION THE MOOD AND IMPACT OF A SPACE AND NOW HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BRING MY IMAGINATION TO LIFE, BY CREATING PHYSICAL REALITIES FOR OTHERS TO EXPERIENCE. MY PASSION IS DESIGN, WITH GOALS TO LEAD A LIFE WITHIN WHICH I CREATE BEAUTIFUL PLACES, SPACES AND MOMENTS TO SHARE WITH ALL.

rock h a l l e l u j a h historical preservation
ROCK HALLELUJAH IS A HISTORICAL PRESERVATION PROJECT OF THE FIRST GERMAN REFORM CHURCH ON FREEMAN STREET IN DOWNTOWN CINCINNATI, OHIO. OUR CLIENTS PURCHASED THIS CRUMBLING CHURCH IN 2011 WITH THE INTENSION OF SAVING IT FROM DEMOLITION. THEIR GOAL WAS TO CONVERT THE CHURCH INTO A MUSIC VENUE WITH ALL PROCEEDS TO FUND AN INNER CITY MUSIC PROGRAM LOCATED IN THE ADJOINING PERISH BUILDING. SINCE THIS STRUCTURE IS CURRENTLY PROTECTED AS A HISTORICALLY PRESERVED BUILDING WE WERE VERY LIMITED IN THE ARCHITECTURAL AND STRUCTURAL PROVISIONS WE COULD MAKE WITHIN THE DESIGN. OUR MAIN FOCUSES FOR THE REDESIGN WERE THE VENUE SPACE LOCATED WITHIN THE CONGRETION SPACE OF THE ORIGINAL CHURCH AND THE RESTAURANT LOCATED IN THE UNDERCROFT OF THE CHURCH.
CONCEPT OF LIGHTING :
SINCE THE HOURS OF OPERATION FOR THE FACILITIES WITHIN ROCK HALLELUJAH ARE SCHEDULED MAINLY AFTER DUSK, THE DESIGN WILL RELY MAINLY ON ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING SOURCES. HOWEVER, IF EITHER SPACE WERE USED FOR FUNCTIONS DURING THE DAY, AMPLE NATURAL LIGHTING WOULD BE PROVIDED. THE VENUE IS LINED WITH 20 FOOT STAINED GLASS WINDOWS WHICH PROVIDE AMPLE DAYLIGHT IN THE FORM OF A TINTED WASH.
CONCEPT OF ELECTRICAL LIGHTING :
WE BELIEVED THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF THE STRUCTURE TO RESTORE WAS THE GROIN VAULTING BUT IT NEEDED TO BE DONE IN SUCH A WAY AS TO UPDATE. TO RECREATE THE CONCEPT OF GROIN VAULTS, WE DESIGNED A STRUCTURE OF CAST ALUMINUM BUT RATHER THAN IN FILLING WITH MASONRY OR PLASTER LIKE TRADITIONAL VAULTS, WE SUBSTITUTED A DYNAMIC TRANSITIONAL MATERIAL THEATRICAL GAUZE.

THE ROCK HALLELUJAH RESTAURANT
// PROJECT INSIGHT
THE ROCK HALLELUJAH RESTAURANT IS LOCATED 1/2 STORY BELOW GROUND IN THE UNDERCROFT OF THE CHURCH. IN THIS SPACE WE DEALT WITH ASYMMETRICAL WINDOWS LOCATED AT GROUND LEVEL.
CONCEPT OF DAY LIGHTING:
THE ORIGINAL STRUCTURE OF THE CHURCH UNDERCROFT WAS LINED WITH UNEVENLY SPACED WINDOWS TO CREATE A SYMMETRICAL PLACEMENT OF THE RESTAURANT WINDOWS, GLOW BOXES WERE DESIGNED TO CREATE AN EVEN WASH OF NATURAL LIGHT ON THE INTERIOR. BY SHIELDING THE WINDOWS WITH FROSTED 3FORM, WE ARE ABLE TO RESTRICT THE VIEWS FROM THE EXTERIOR WHILE STILL ALLOWING NATURAL LIGHT TO POUR IN.
CONCEPT OF ELECTRICAL LIGHTING:
FOR THE RESTAURANT, WE WANTED TO EMULATE GROIN VAULTS SIMILAR TO THE ONES IN THE VENUE SPACE WITHOUT DUPLICATING. WE CHOSE TO CREATE THE RESTAURANT VAULTS USING BACKLIT 3FORM PANELS, SHAPED AS GROIN VAULTS. LIGHTING IS DISPERSED WITHIN THE VAULT FROM THE CEILING AND WALL PLANE. THESE VAULTED GLOW BOXES NOT ONLY HELP TO DEFINE CIRCULATION PATHS BUT PROVIDE THE SAME VISUAL INTEREST AS THE VENUE .
Bonobos retail design
PAVE HOSTED A DESIGN COMPETITION INVOLVED DESIGNING A BRANDED POP-UP SHOP FEATURING BONOBOS, A ONLINE MEN’S RETAILER. THE STORE WAS TO BE LOCATED IN THE MEAT PACKING INDUSTRY OF NEW YORK CITY. MY DESIGN FOR BONOBOS IS TO RESEMBLE THE INTERIOR OF A YACHT AND PROVIDE CUSTOMERS THE FEEL OF BEING ON THE OPEN SEA. THE POP-UP DESIGN INCOORPERATES STEAMLINE CLOTHING DISPLAYS AND IS ACCENTED WITH NAUTICAL ACCESSORIES. MATERIALS USED THROUGHOUT THE BONOBOS POP-UP STORE ARE SIMILAR TO THOSE USED ON LUXURY WATERCRAFT; FEATURES ROPE LIGHTING FIXTURES, BRASS DETAILS, TEAK WOOD FLOORS, AND GLOSSY WHITE LAMINATE. THE MILLWORK COMPONENTS (DETAIL A) FOR THE SHOP WERE DESIGNED TO BE COMPACTABLE AND REQUIRE MINIMAL ON-SITE ASSEMBLY. THEY INCOORPERATE A SERIES OF PEGS AND SLOTS ALLOWING THE UNITS TO BE FASTENED TOGETHER FOR SIMPLE ASSEMBLY AND TEAR-DOWN.
EXTERIOR PERSPECTIVE
WINDOW DISPLAY THE WINDOW DISPLAY OF THE NAUTICAL THEMED BONOBOS POP-UP STORE WILL DEPICT A SEA OF BLUE JEANS STACKED IN AN OMBRE OF SHADES. WITHIN THE JEAN STACKS, CUSTOM SHIP PORTALS WILL BE INSTALLED PROVIDING Minimal VIEWS INTO THE STORE AS WELL AS PRODUCT DISPLAY SPACE. BY DISPLAYING AND STORING ACCESSORIES IN THE PORTALS IT WILL CREATE INTRIGUE FROM THE EXTERIOR AND ENCOURAGE INTRIGUE. DETAIL B
