How many people have made a decision to be more loving? We normally don’t desire to be more loving because this means we may become too “soft” and allow people to run over us. If God felt that way about us, many would never have been saved. I don’t know about you but I thank God for Jesus Christ looking beyond my faults and issues and dying on the cross for me. His love is so unconditional! That kind of love is called “Agape”. The Greek word agape is often translated “love” in the New Testament. How is “agape love” different from other types of love? The essence of agape love is self-sacrifice. Unlike our English word “love,” agape is not used in the Bible to refer to romantic or sexual love. Nor does it refer to close friendship or brotherly love, for which the Greek word philia is used. Agape love is unique and is distinguished by its nature and character. It’s loving the unloveable. God’s very essence is “love”…for God is love. Why do some marriages last so long? It’s because the couple “agape” each other. Their love has become mature. Instead of the relationship being based on 50/50%, it become 100/100%. In other words, your love is not based on conditions, if you do your 50%, I will do my 50%. No, whether you do your 50% or not I am totally committed to the marriage 100%. Real love sacrifices. Read 1Corinthians 13. It’s time to get our love walk right. If we do, there would not be so many divorces. There would be no pre-planning for failure. No need for pre-nuptials. There would be less child abuse and less need for prisons. Fewer school shootings and deaths. Love brings people together. Lord, help me to love more this year! 1 John 4:7-8 reads “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” John 13:34-35 (NKJV) “ A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” You have been given a commandment and authority to love. Just do it! |10 |

At some point in our lives we all have dreams of becoming something. I remember as a small child that I wanted to be a Ballerina. After several years passed, I wanted to be a teacher, and after that a model. Whatever caused my mind to wonder into a place that made me happy is what we all use as an escape. Ultimately, those that follow their dreams, continue to stay in that happy place where their minds took them when they first thought of the dream. Today’s society is led by social media, music videos and the stigmatic’s of physical appearance. Although most dreams are initially created in our minds, they are not manifested until we make them real. How do you do that? First, we must create a space and environment that allows our dreams to grow, develop, and manifest. Here are some great ways in allowing that to happen. • Avoid distractions that will make you doubt your abilities. Often times, we can be involved in unhealthy extracurricular activities that are not part of the goal. Make sure to choose your “fun” wisely. Don’t place yourself in situations that could destroy the dream you’ve created for yourself. When that is done repeatedly it will make you began to doubt the dream is real or can become real. How? By corrupting our minds to think differently about ourselves. Drinking and smoking are a few negative vises that can cause a distraction in a young mind. Use that spare time to read up on the latest news that relates to your dream. Journal your thoughts of goals and plans you have been thinking about. • Remove friends, relationships, and even family members who maybe crippling or not supporting your dreams. Are your friendships good for you? Do have friends or are in relationships that are not draining you of life? Often times we can be committed in relationships that literally suck the life out of us. Know when it’s time to remove those people. How do you know it’s time? Ask yourself these things: 1. Am I motivated when I am around them? 2. Do we always discuss sad and depressing subjects? 3. When I need to be lifted, do they encourage me the way I encourage them? 4. Do they shoot down my dreams when I share them? Of course it’s important to be a friend, but know who your TRUE friends are by asking yourself those questions. I was always told to surround myself with people I want to be like. To this day, I use this motto. Sometimes that’s not likely if you are a teen or young adult. Try enrolling into a mentor program or finding an organization that offers or provides the career you’re seeking. Keep researching and continue to search deep inside yourself to keep your dream alive. Remember, you are the only one who can live what God gave you!

Not only is she the Founder and CEO Harvest Girls International, Inc., she is a Certified Team Builder, Empowerment Coach, motivation and inspirational speaker, Published Poet, Licensed Minister and Mother of Twins. She shared such wisdom and experience with her life. She talked about how she has had her ups and downs, but never let them get the best of her and most definitely do not pity party her. She was so graceful and her presence spoke volumes. Some of her hobbies include Singing, Poetry, and Love of old school music! Most of all I loved how she talked with such confidence because she was “Crystal Clear” as to who Crystal was. Crystal: I grew up as a PK (Preacher’s Kid) values were important, I exercised those and still do today along with my spiritual walk. I use every obstacle as a stepping stone to greatness! CLM: How did you get into your industry or career? Crystal: Passion to change lives, after seeking to change my own! CLM: What moved you to start Harvest Girls International and Crystal Clear Communications? Crystal: I initially had a love for communications, writing, speech, oratory, etc. I always loved to read, I was naturally good in English class. I also loved the arts I always had a heart for helping people and so the combination resulted in starting an organization and a business. CLM: What motivates you to move forward? Crystal: My Faith, values and self determination. I also believe that there is greatness on the inside of everyone, no matter what has happened to you, there is still, a “Celebration” in You, so I celebrate the journey. CLM: How do you press through challenges?
CLM: How do they inspire you? Crystal: Strength through adversity is very attractive to me! I feel that you hurt, feel it, but don’t wallow in it, do something about it, learn from it and then next level! CLM: What are your short and long term goals, personally and in your business? Crystal: I want to continue to discover myself! I want to challenge myself in the business in places I am not most uncomfortable in to grow and to help others grow in their non-comfort place. CLM: What advice would you give men and women who have struggled with different areas in life that challenges their goals? Crystal: Discover the power of you! You do not know how awesome you are until you go deep inside of yourself, but first you have to peel back the layers, emotions, in the box thinking, etc. CLM: How do you make sure you design your life or head it in the direction you desire? Crystal: Self inventory, I have my own personal check list, Prayer, growth evaluation and self motivation, and mentors. Also, following the passion on the inside of me, keeps me on the path of my destiny!

New dents, scratches and dings on your aging parent’s car might be a sign of deteriorating driving ability. These are pretty obvious warning signs. With impaired financial decision making, the signs may not be quite as obvious, but if you know what to look for you might be able to spot it early. 1. Is the aging person taking longer to complete financial tasks? Does she struggle with everyday efforts like preparing bills for mailing, reconciling bank statements or organizing paperwork? 2. Is the person missing key details in financial documents? Are bills piling up and has he missed a payment? Is he able to prioritize his regular responsibilities? 3. Is your aging parent experiencing problems with everyday arithmetic? Maybe you recently went out to dinner with mom and dad, and while paying, they took an inordinate amount of time to calculate the appropriate tip. 4. Have you noticed a decreased understanding of financial concepts with your loved ones? Are they having increased difficulty comprehending health care matters like deductibles, or are they having a hard time understanding the bank statements they receive? 5. Are they having new difficulty identifying investment risks? Are they able to minimize the risks in potential investments? Did they recently fall victim to fraud or a scam because they could not spot the liabilities? Pay extra attention toward looking for the warning signs of mental and financial decline. Most importantly, take the time to talk to your parents about their wishes and how you can help them.

f you’ve been entrusted to assist an elderly relative with scheduling preventive exams and putting a health care plan in place, you may struggle with knowing when it’s time to take on a greater role in other aspects of their life. That’s why now is the perfect time to look for warning signs that your loved ones might be suffering from a decline in financial ability. Despite years of accumulated knowledge and experience, it is likely that at some point your loved ones’ financial capability will be challenged as they age, making it more difficult to competently handle money-related matters on their own. And this decline can occur even if illnesses, such as Alzheimer’s or dementia, are not present.
Establishing a plan to manage your parents’ finances is an important task in their senior years, particularly if you intend to engage other family members in the process. A survey from the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) found that 86 percent of people want their family to help with financial matters if they become unable. However, nearly 7 in 10 say their family dynamics prevent that from happening. According to the survey, 58 percent of families experience disagreements, conflicts or confrontation with others when aging affects financial decision making.
Whether you’re a child or family member who has been enlisted to help or even charting your own financial future, approaching these discussions with candor and an open mind is critical. “Especially if you’re accustomed to handling money matters privately, learning to talk more candidly about your finances may be uncomfortable,” said Ted Beck, president and CEO of NEFE. “However, allowing trusted individuals to take a closer look at your accounts can help you establish a realistic plan for the future, and help flag any potential concerns.”

One way Beck recommends protecting your parents is to allow view-only access to let loved ones help monitor for unusual activity on your banking and credit accounts. If restrictions to unauthorized users prohibit this, you can set up an alert program (via email or text) when a transaction over a set amount occurs. Also, remember to perform regular credit checks to avoid scams and identity theft. Check the three major reporting bureaus and stagger the reports to get one every four months. Organize Entryways with Decorative Storage (Family Features) An entryway is the first impression guests have of your home, yet it can quickly become a chaotic mess. Most entryways serve multiple functions as the receptacle for all things you and your family members shed as they walk through the door, from coats and backpacks to keys and mail. With these simple tips, you can transform this unruly space into an organized and attractive area that welcomes all who enter. Begin by de-cluttering. Clean out any storage areas and items that don’t belong, keeping only the essentials in the entryway. A few years ago I received a call from a couple who asked that I come and work for them as a live-in nanny for a period of time. The father was finishing up his residency, and the mother was completing her master’s while working as a nurse. They had five children; one, three, five, seven, and nine. I agreed and entered into this new world of nanny hood. Although life was very busy, I observed two things that kept this family grounded—commitment and priorities. Their commitment to God and to family kept their priorities aligned. There were many long days, but they gathered around the dinner table and ate together as a family. At bedtime they gathered the children together in their bedroom and read, sang, and prayed together as a family. This created a strong foundation and a renewing grace to the parents to get through this busy “season” in life. As a single parent myself, I have had the inner conflict of balancing life rightly—family, love, and career. I have not always made the best decisions, but one way I have learned to correct the wrong turns that I have made is by my level of peace. If I have no peace, I get on my knees and ask why. When I’m in proper alignment to the right priorities, a peace flows from these commitments even if things around me are crazy.

1. Ask for help from the right people. My parents were close by as my son was growing up, and were a great help to me in times of need. They were a rich source of nurturing and love to my son. This alone gave me peace of mind in my busy seasons just knowing the right people were with my son. I also had some good friends that were willing to help me out when I asked. 2. Sacrifices are necessary. Maybe it’s letting some household chores go to the wayside to spend the evening focusing on your loved ones. Or learning to live on less so you can spend more time with your family. Or just saying no to an invitation that would take you away from what matters most. Sometimes we feel we may “miss out” on something, but surprising rewards are in acts of sacrifice. 3. Fulfill your purpose for the time. Who are you? What is your name, or what do you call yourself? Daddy, mommy, husband, wife, agent, teacher, financier, artist, etc. “Your name”—who you see yourself to be, what you’re working at, and what others call you—is your purpose—your purpose for the day. The time is now. Your purpose is here in each and every day, and it is meant to touch and bring life to others daily. 4. Love without yourself in mind. Observe, watch and listen! Your loved ones will share with you what they need from you. Maybe not in obvious ways, but the clues will be there if you are alert to them. Balancing love in your relationships will become a source of refreshment and delight as you truly learn to love. One book that I would recommend reading is, The Five Love Languages, by Gary Chapman. He gives insight into fulfilling relationships. (This is also available on audio cd!) 5. Keep an appointment with the “Big Boss” daily. In my own life, and in the lives of men and women that I have admired over the years, I have seen that one thing is necessary or needful in keeping it all together, and that is time set aside daily with God. These men and women were married, single, with children, juggling successful careers, or busy “stay at home moms” that had a peace and calmness about them, that created an order in their homes, and created space for others. They made you feel special and worth their time even though they had a lot going on! They had found the value of the necessity of this one appointment, and the life that flows from it. Life can be challenging at different times and seasons. What we look to and align with will eventually bring order— establishing peace and life, or a disorder bringing with it chaos into our homes. Set up and pursue your commitments and priorities. If you are doing this, and still lack peace, maybe you have misplaced proper focus; producing wrong priorities and commitments. Living with MS can be challenging—the disease impacts all individuals differently and is often accompanied by debilitating symptoms that can impede daily life. For many who live with this disease, an MS nurse is a pivotal member of their healthcare team, whose support extends beyond treatment to also provide the education, support and counseling they and their families need. As a nurse specializing in MS, Denise Chicoine understands that caring for this chronic disease requires going beyond managing the physical symptoms—it means providing lifelong support through all the milestones of this disease. Caribbean Pork Kabobs
Serves: 9 Prep Time: 15 minutes Cooking Time: 10 to 15 minutes 1/2 cup pineapple juice 3 tablespoons Mrs. Dash® Caribbean Citrus Seasoning Blend, divided 1 pound pork tenderloin, cut into small cubes 1 sweet onion, cut into cubes 1 red bell pepper, cut into cubes 1/2 fresh pineapple, peeled, cut into cubes Mix pineapple juice and 2 tablespoons seasoning blend in a small bowl. Pour 3/8 cup (6 tablespoons) of the pineapple juice mixture over the pork in a separate bowl and the remaining over the vegetables. Stir to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for about 1 hour. Thread pork pieces onto 9 skewers, alternating with onion, pepper and pineapple cubes. Sprinkle on remaining 1 tablespoon seasoning blend. Grill or broil for 10 to 15 minutes or until pork is thoroughly cooked.
Salmon Fillets with Raspberry Citrus Sauce
Serves: 4 Prep Time: 10 minutes Cooking Time: 10 to 11 minutes 1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted 1 cup water 2/3 cup couscous 1/2 cup chopped green onions 1 pound skinned salmon fillets, 1 inch thick 2 tablespoons Mrs. Dash® Garlic & Herb Seasoning Blend 3/4 cup fresh squeezed orange juice 1 cup minced shallots 2 tablespoons raspberry preserves 2 teaspoons fresh grated peeled ginger 2 tablespoons raspberry vinegar 1/4 cup fresh raspberries, optional garnish To toast almonds, place in a small skillet over medium heat, shaking often until golden all over, approximately 4 minutes. Preheat broiler. Bring water to a boil in medium saucepan and remove from heat. Stir in couscous and green onion. Rinse and pat dry salmon fillets, then sprinkle seasoning blend on each side. Place fillets on a broiler pan coated with non-stick spray. Broil 5 minutes per side, 5 to 6 inches from heat source. Over medium heat, bring orange juice and shallots to a slight boil in a small saucepan. Lower heat and whisk in raspberry preserves, ginger and vinegar; keep warm while salmon is cooking. Fluff couscous with fork and place equal amounts on 4 dinner plates. Lay a piece of salmon on top. Drizzle citrus sauce over salmon and sprinkle almonds on top. Garnish top with raspberries, if desired.
Chipotle Burgers with Spicy Onions
Serves: 4 Prep Time: 10 minutes Cooking Time: 20 minutes 1 teaspoon olive oil 1 large red onion, peeled and thinly sliced 2 tablespoons Mrs. Dash® Southwest Chipotle Seasoning Blend, divided 1 pound extra lean ground beef 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped 2 egg whites, or egg substitute equivalent to 1 egg 4 toasted hamburger buns Sliced tomatoes, optional Lettuce, optional Heat oil in large non-stick skillet, add onion and cook until golden and tender, about 10 minutes. Stir in 1 tablespoon seasoning blend, mix thoroughly and remove from heat. Gently mix ground beef, 1 tablespoon seasoning blend, cilantro, and egg whites or egg substitute. Mix well, and shape into 4 burgers. Preheat grill to medium-high heat and grill burgers for 8 to 10 minutes, turning once. Toast buns and top with burger and spicy onions. Garnish with tomato and lettuce, if desired.
Old Fashioned Cole Slaw
Serves: 12 Prep Time: 20 minutes Chill Time: 2 to 3 hours 5 cups shredded cabbage 1 cup shredded carrots 8 radishes, sliced 1/4 cup chopped green onion 1/4 cup olive oil 3 tablespoons cider vinegar 2 1/2 tablespoons Mrs. Dash® Original Blend 2 teaspoons sugar 2 tablespoons lemon juice Combine cabbage, carrots, radishes and onion in large bowl; set aside. Combine oil, vinegar, seasoning blend, sugar and lemon juice in small bowl; mix well. Pour dressing over cabbage mixture; toss to mix well. Chill for 2 to 3 hours. Toss again before serving.

Ancho Chile Rubbed Smoked Beef Brisket

f the surge in barbecue and smoking competitions across the country is any indication, grilling has become an art form. This Father’s Day, grab dad and gather around the grill or try a new technique that’s rising in popularity – smoking – to create a masterpiece meal – and plenty of memories – together. From secret marinades to tricked out grills and smokers, competitive smokers know there is a near ritualistic approach to teasing the perfect flavor out of a premium cut of meat. Follow in the footsteps of those pit masters and smoke like a pro with these tips from Omaha Steaks Executive Chef Karl Marsh.

Start with style
The first step is deciding how you’d like to prepare your meat. Consider stepping up your game by smoking your meat. Smoking is a popular choice because it infuses flavor throughout the meat, while extended cook times at low temperatures make it extra tender. Another advantage is the chance to create a wide range of unique flavors using wet and dry rubs, as well as seasoned wood chips and planks.
Choose your cut
Virtually any meat can be smoked, but the most popular cuts of meat to smoke are brisket, ribs, pork shoulder or turkey, all of which are typically large in size. Ready your rub
Rubs are often used to add flavors and surface texture to a cut of meat. For best results, brush meat with cooking oil or another liquid ingredient (such as yellow mustard) before adding the rub. Spread the rub on a clean plate and place the meat on it. Coat both sides with the rub by gently pressing the meat on the plate.
Set up the smoker
Some pit masters consider their equipment as vital an ingredient as the meat or flavorings they choose. Preparation varies from one recipe to the next, but one constant is the importance of maintaining a steady temperature. As you prepare your charcoal, be conscious of where you’ll place any wood chips or other flavor enhancers for maximum impact.

Slow and steady
Sensational flavor takes time to build, so plan to dedicate several hours to your task. Often, smoked foods require foil wrapping for at least a portion of the cook to retain moisture. Plan to check in at regular intervals to restock wood chips, flip or rotate meat and apply a fresh coat of seasoning or spices.
Prep time: 1 hour Cook time: 11-13 hours Rest time: 1-2 hours Total time: 13-16 hours 1 Whole Omaha Steaks Brisket for smoking 2 cups white vinegar 2/3 cup yellow mustard 3/4 cup Omaha Steaks Ancho Chile Rub 4 cups Ancho Chile Smoking Spritzer, divided (recipe below) 8 cups apple or cherry wood chips, soaked in water Remove brisket from bag and rinse with white vinegar then rinse with water. Dry completely using paper towels. Slather brisket generously with yellow mustard. Rub generously with ancho chile rub and inject with 1 cup Ancho Chile Smoking Spritzer. Prepare smoker using 1 chimney of pure lump charcoal fully lit and one chimney of pure lump charcoal unlit. Make sure water pan is full and adjust vents until smoker maintains a temperature between 225 and 250 F. Place brisket on smoker fat side up and brush smoking spritzer over top. Every hour, check smoker temp, squirt with smoking spritzer and add handful of wood chips. After 3 hours, flip brisket fat side down and squirt with spritzer. After 6 hours, flip brisket fat side up. Wrap heavy duty foil around the last 3-4 inches of brisket tip to prevent it from drying out. Restock water pan and add lump charcoal as needed. Adjust vents until temperature is between 225 and 250 F. Beginning at 8 hours, check internal temperature every hour and apply spritzer and wood chips as needed. Between 11-13 hours, when internal temperature is between 195 and 200 F, if fork slides easily into brisket, it is done. Let brisket rest for 1-2 hours before slicing and serving.
Ancho Chile Rubbed Smoked Pork Butt
Prep time: 1 hour Cook time: 8-10 hours Rest time: 1 hour Total time: 10-12 hours 1 Omaha Steaks Whole Pork Butt 2 cups white vinegar 1/2 cup yellow mustard 1/2 cup Omaha Steaks Ancho Chile Rub 4 cups Ancho Chile Smoking Spritzer, divided (recipe below) 8 cups apple or cherry wood chips, soaked in water Score top fat so it will melt into pork while smoking and allow more rub to get into meat. Rub pork with white vinegar then rinse with water. Pat dry with clean paper towels. Rub pork butt with yellow mustard. Rub pork butt with ancho chile rub. Inject pork with 10-12 ounces of Ancho Chile Smoking Spritzer. Set up smoker with 1 chimney using unlit lump charcoal and 2 chimneys using lit lump charcoal. Adjust vents in smoker until temperature settles between 225 and 250 F. Place pork butt fat side up and add a lot of wood chips. Every half hour, add more wood chips and spritz pork with smoking spritzer. After 2 hours, insert remote thermometer probes. Be careful not to let thermometer touch bone to prevent false readings. After 5 hours, place pork in foil pan and liberally coat with spritzer. Wrap pan tightly with foil. Continue cooking without adding wood chips or opening smoker until thermometer hits 190 F (for sliced meat) or 200 F (for pulled meat), about 8-10 hours total. Let rest 1 hour before serving.

Ellenborough Park Ellenborough Park is a 15th century manor house located in the heart of the Cotswolds, adjacent to the famous Cheltenham racecourse. The hotel boasts a world-class spa and gourmet restaurant, and is comprised of 60 large bedrooms and suites designed by Nina Campbell. Having been named UK’s Leading Country House Hotel and England’s Leading Spa Hotel at the World Travel Awards two years in a row, Ellenborough Park is the perfect country retreat. Ellenborough Park as an estate has been described as a ‘pretty manor place’ in 1533 by the King’s Antiquary and in 1796 as “one of the greatest curiosities in the country” by Samuel Rudder. The main house is mostly early sixteenth century with priceless masonry and woodwork which gives the building old-world charm. Amendments have been made over the past 500 years and this has created a truly unique country house hotel. The restoration of Ellenborough Park commenced in early 2008 and took three years to complete. The initial brief was to create a racecourse hotel which would be unsurpassed within the United Kingdom. Specifications for every aspect of the work were of the highest quality and finish. Phase one was the removal of the 1970s buildings from the old hotel, which were replaced by new accommodation buildings, designed to complement the Main House restoration. Prior to 2008, the building was situated in just ten acres of land, including gardens which had belonged to the estate since its initial development in Elizabethan times. This was expanded to encompass ninety acres in total, placing the house in the centre of an estate stretching down to the edge of Cheltenham Racecourse in the South West and across thirty acres of Cleeve Hill in the North East.
