Making Moves Resident Artist Opportunity, Kidderminster Wyre Forest District Council and University of Wolverhampton (School of Art & Design) are working in partnership to offer an experienced mid career crafts person a residency in Kidderminster as part of the Making Moves project. The residency will be hosted by The Boars Head Public House on Worcester Street in Kidderminster. The artist may work in any medium and must clearly state the craft they will be working in on application and have a minimum of 5 years experiences. Making Moves is a craft development initiative which builds on a seven year partnership between Staffordshire County Council and Craftspace. In a new two year phase the partnership has evolved across the West Midlands pairing four HE institutions with a range of Local Authority Arts Development Officers. The programme will comprise of 9 residencies to explore commissioning models, a touring exhibition and opportunities for students, graduates and professional makers. The Kidderminster residency will start in January 2011 and be completed by March 2012. The selected artist will be based at the Boar’s Head public house, in a converted function room which is located upstairs in the pub, (please note there is no disabled access). However, they will also have access to the other areas of the building to work and research throughout their stay, if appropriate. The artist will also work with the community which frequent the venue and a group of local artists (KAF Creatives) who use the venue as a base for meetings and project development, these sessions will be open to the wider community to join and will be high quality making sessions to stimulate critical discussion and an understanding of creative practice through making. A further community group yet to be identified may be included. The artist will also have space and research and development time to further their own practice in response to the residency. A shadow artist placement will also offer recent graduates the opportunity to observe and learn from lead artists to develop skills in working with communities and to develop their artistic practice. A sharing event/exhibition at the end of the residency will include activities which can be opened out to the wider community and potentially facilitated by community participants sharing their new skills. Following the residency each artist will be commissioned to create a piece of work which will feature in an exhibition showcasing all 9 residencies that will tour throughout the partner’s regions from June 2012 – May 2013. We are asking for a commitment of 20 days over the period (until March 2012) including fees, travel and VAT. The timing of the residency will need to be negotiated with the venue which will be your host. Deadline for applications: 16 December 5.00pm Interviews will be held: 21 December Residency Start: on 23 January 2012
