There will be a £5 registration fee per learner per term regardless of the number of courses/children.

If you need a crèche place please speak to a member of staff when you enrol on one of the courses.

Our crèches work to Ofsted Standards and provide high quality childcare.

The venues that can provide a crèche facility are marked with the crèche symbol, on the back pages.

Our aim is to keep every child safe and support their development through quality play.

MATHS

LEADING TO AN QUALIFICATIO

Our courses help you improve your maths and lead to a nationally recognised qualification. We can help anyone from a complete beginner right up to those studying for a maths GCSE. We offer two types of class:

FUNCTIONAL SKILLS MATHS CLASSES: These classes focus on the kind of maths adults need in their everyday lives – whether for work or for helping children with their homework. The classes include how to work out sums, using fractions, decimals and percentages, understanding the metric system and interpreting graphs and charts. There are 5 different levels of qualification you can work towards depending on how strong your maths is when you start. The highest level counts as equivalent to a grade C GCSE. We offer specialist maths and English classes for learners with visual impairment, with access to all the latest assistive technology.

FAST TRACK FUNCTIONAL SKILLS. Confident in your maths but lacking a recognised qualification? Need a L2 but don’t have the time for classes every week for a year? This might be for you. An intensive 10 week course for learners who have good basic maths skills but lack a recognised qualification. If, after a rigorous assessment process, you demonstrate the ability to achieve a qualification in 10 weeks we can offer you an intensive course to get you through the exam. Starting from January 2017 assessments to run from 28th November - 2nd December and 17th February - 27th February 2017. Ring Denis Lennon on: 024 7661 1878.

COMMUNITY LEARNING COURSES

Fancy the Foxtrot?, Raring to Rumba? – take to the floor with courses in Ballroom & Latin, or sizzle with Salsa! Or if you enjoy dancing solo try a course in Line Dancing at beginner to improver levels that will enable you to learn a range of rhythmical routines and improve your co-ordination. If your goal is to keep fit through dance, Zumba offers a diversity of dance styles that you can perform at your own pace to easy-to-follow, fun filled routines and styles that include Cumbia, Salsa, Merengue and Reggaeton. Additionally, Zumba Gold is aimed at participants who want to dance the familiar Latin Zumba moves but at a lower impact and pace. It’s a great way to improve fitness through dance and you don’t even need a partner!

ADVICE & GUIDANCE Please read the course information available online. Please note that regular attendance is important. If you struggle to lose weight, would like to increase confidence and improve fitness through dance then Dance, Diet and Wellbeing is a new course to help keep you focussed and on track. If learning set routines as part of a dance troupe appeals to you then perhaps you’ll be tempted to Tap Dance or be leaping to learn routines inspired by popular music and movements from the musicals with Dance to Musicals. Or perhaps you’ll just love Lyrical Dance, an expressive fusion of ballet and contemporary styles performed to popular emotive music. Our Ballet courses will enable you to develop fluidity of movement, gracefully moving to demonstrate a variety of strengthening exercises that will improve your overall fitness and posture, while developing the correct technique for basic ballet steps and routines. Whichever style you choose, dance can help to improve your coordination, confidence, and physical and mental health and is a great way to learn and develop new skills whether dancing solo or with a partner. Places on all courses are available to learners aged 19 and upwards so put on your dancing shoes, enrol today, and dare to dance! Beginners

For absolute beginners with no previous knowledge

Beginners Plus

For people who have completed beginner’s courses or who have experience of the basics and are ready to consolidate and build upon existing skills

Improvers

For people who have completed a beginners plus course or who are competent with the basic steps and are ready to build upon existing skills while learning more complex steps and longer, faster sequences

Term 2

Indicates a follow on course from the previous term. While some new learning will take place, new learners joining the current term will need to be aware that prior learning has already taken place, including work on a routine/s that have been taught but will be recapped, developed and practised in the current term for an informal performance at an annual dance celebration evening held in Coventry (participation on the night is optional).

(available in spring and summer terms)

Coventry City Council and Coventry Citizens Advice pilot new app to plan smoother journeys for people with a disability. The app is being piloted in partnership with Coventry City Council and Coventry Citizens Advice and is free to individuals who download it to their mobile device. The Adult Education Service are pleased to announce they are part of the pilot working with the new mobile app that helps people with a disability plan their arrival to organisations in Coventry.

How does the app work?

How does the organisation respond?

n T he unique app is easily downloadable to a mobile device. (Currently Apple and Android).

n When a request is made, the message will create an alert on the organisations system and produces a further notification to a team inbox so your request gets seen.

n Once you have the app installed you can look up an organisation you may want to visit such as Adult Education, a museum, a bar, an advice centre

n A member of staff will read and acknowledge the request by messaging you directly via the app (not just an automated response).

n You then send a request to the organisation to let them know what your needs are, for example help with an adapted child’s buggy, water for your guide dog, or just to let people know you have dyslexia, dyspraxia or autism maybe and need support – the options are endless n The organisation responds to your request and will be aware of your arrival and you can plan a successful journey.

n If the organisation requires any explanation, they will prompt for any additional information to best understand your individual circumstances. n The organisation will try to offer any help they can and confirm any agreed arrangements via the app. n If you have your location enabled on your mobile phone, an app notification will let the organisation know when you are within a certain distance from the building to alert reception staff. n In case the organisation is unable to provide you with the necessary assistance, they will try and work on alternative suggestions or offer a different venue if one is available. n The organisation will frequently review the system data to identify improvements to processes and venues to make services even more accessible. Adult Education is using the app at 22 of the venues where courses are running. Please check on the venue information to see if the app is being used at the venue where you wish to do your course.
