Winter Exercise Survival

 BODY AND BALANCE  Winter Exercise Survival

WHEN WINTER HITS AND AS WE ARE SPENDING HOURS WORKING FROM HOME OR THE OFFICE, IT’S HARDER TO REMAIN MOTIVATED TO KEEP MOVING. BEING ACTIVE IS ESSENTIAL TO SUPPORT YOUR HEALTH, IMMUNE SYSTEM AND MIND BODY BALANCE AND IT ONLY TAKES 20 MINUTES TO AN HOUR OF EXERCISING, 1-3 TIMES PER WEEK TO HELP STRENGTHEN YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM AND HELP PREVENT ILLNESSES.

“We are in special times on this planet which require special actions. Movement, Music and Meditation with positive intentions and visualisations is leading the way for me and my clients to be Fitter, Stronger, Happier and to fi nd that place of Balance and higher vibrational living.” JILL HEALYQUINTARD

Exercise will relieve a condition known as SAD (Seasonal Affective

Disorder). This condition occurs when the days are shorter and colder. Generally, people are less active, eat more, sit longer which can lead to depression. We live in a gorgeous place on the earth, here on the beaches, and are so lucky to be able to breathe fresh air and be by the ocean.

In winter, you can actually burn more calories or kilojoules as your body needs to work harder to keep warm.

This makes your metabolism increase so your body burns more calories and fat to produce the energy for your workout.

When you start an exercise regime, you’ll fi nd your endurance increase; your heart, lungs and blood supply strengthen and the oxygen circulates throughout the body. Your overall fi tness, health and wellness experiences a higher vibrational level sending your body strong positive feelings.

Joining a class that consists of focus, breath, posture, alignment, balance mobilisation, stretch, strength, cardio, core conditioning and mindful meditation is wonderful for the body.

All of Body & Balance’s classes from

YogaPilates®, BodyBarre® through to TribalGROOVE Fusion® cover all ten principles for total Mind Body

Balance. All classes conclude with meditation, positive intentions and visualisations. This will balance mind and body and have you feeling and looking fabulous all year round.

Keeping up a fast-paced cardio walk, arm swings with squats along the way will not only keep you fi t but help in weight management. You can also try running up and down some stairs, hill climb, or along a beach. Remember to breathe in the fresh air and enjoy a few moments of mindfulness, meditation and positive intentions. Did you know exercise boosts the feel-good endorphins? Exercising in the cold not only stimulates the release of endorphins but it also releases dopamine, serotonin and neurotransmitters. This helps us feel good and feel happier. So, keep moving to feel fabulous.

In winter we tend to eat more and our meals are heavier than in summer. Eliminate processed foods from your diet as they will keep your vibrational energy low. Instead, eat fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, fi sh, lean meats and whole grains to lift your energy, your ‘good vibrations’ and feel happier.

Keep hydrated with warm or hot herbal teas. They’re excellent for elimination and taste good too.

Get a good night’s sleep. Our over-active minds can lead to sleep deprivation. This can be the result of the current global pandemic, being online more and watching many more streaming services. It’s important to sleep well and have at least 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep per night.

To help, take electronic devices out of the bedroom and try a few minutes of deep breathing, inhaling and exhaling. You’ll fi nd your breathing will slow down and you’ll be in a more restful and relaxed place. •

Since COVID we’ve been able to choose motivating faceto-face or live streaming classes, 3 times per week.” KATHERINE
