Move. Eat. Live. Better
REBOUND HEALTH HAS BEEN TAKING CARE OF PEOPLE ON THE NORTHERN BEACHES FOR MORE THAN A DECADE. NOW, WITH THREE CLINICS IN BROOKVALE, FRESHWATER AND WARRIEWOOD, IT’S ONE OF AUSTRALIA’S BEST EXAMPLES, OFFERING A MULTIDISCIPLINARY AND HOLISTIC APPROACH TO HEALTHCARE.
Rebound Health Director Andrew Daubney is on a mission to look after our community. With three allied health care facilities including a brand new space in Brookvale, he is determined to give people a greater experience on their health care journey.

“I became an Exercise Physiologist because I love helping people, and I love exercise,” says Andrew.
“After 15 years experience in the health and wellbeing industry, I found that my true calling was to use exercise to manage and treat mental health conditions. Now, my job is to lead an amazing team of allied health professionals to improve the health of our community.”
Andrew employs an experienced team of experts who treat clients like family. And with a range of disciplines, their combined skills help develop holistic solutions to complex situations.
“We were frustrated seeing our clients’ health not managed well because they were bouncing from one place to another,” explains Andrew.
“At Rebound, we’ve created an environment with exceptional practitioners to help clients improve their health with the least amount of fuss.”
With services including occupational therapy, physiotherapy, exercise physiology, and dietetics, and each Rebound Health clinic has organically grown to specialise in certain aspects of personal health.
Freshwater (based at the Harbord Diggers) focuses on physiotherapy and women’s health while Warriewood and Brookvale both target exercise physiology for people with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart problems, cancer, and hip and knee replacements. Both locations have large areas to run group classes and workshops.
“Brookvale also covers dietetics,” adds Andrew. “We have three dieticians and our Senior Dietician works closely with young people and eating disorders.”
Unlike many gyms, Rebound delivers highly tailored programs to meet an individual’s specifi c needs.
“Some of our members have cancer, others have had a hip replacement. We want people to know they can trust the person they’re working with regardless of what they’re going through.
“We have exercise groups for over 60s, and work with everyone from paralympic athletes to young people,” shares Andrew, proudly.
At the end of the day, Andrew and his team want all their clients to live better and move better, so they can do the things they love.
“Some people come here for a few weeks, a few months, or forever,” he explains. “Our aim is to get them leading a healthy lifestyle, which means saying yes to the things they love to do. That might be a walk, a marathon or playing with their kids or grandkids. If it’s important to them, it matters to us.”

GIVING BACK
With a philanthropic philosophy, Andrew is always seeking innovative ways to give back to his community.
“When I took over the business, I wanted to give back without giving lots of money because we didn’t have any. We set up a partnership with Headspace - the youth mental health clinic in Brookvale. Kids at Headspace can access two exercise sessions a week, for 10 weeks, for free.
“There are great benefi ts to this program, including social interaction and connection. It’s important these kids feel like they’re part of something. And they get hot and sweaty while they’re at it.”
A focus on mental health came naturally for Andrew who has suffered depression.
“As someone who has struggled myself and led a very active life, I know the positive impact a healthy lifestyle can have.”
Rebound’s amazing Women’s Health Physiotherapist, Claire Mills, also does pro bono work with the Womens Shelter. For the team at Rebound, it’s simply the way that they choose to live out their core business values.
EDUCATING OTHERS
In recent years, The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has become a signifi cant focus for Rebound Health.
“When the NDIS was rolled out a few years ago, it opened up the opportunity for us to take what we were already doing and apply it to help a wider population on the Northern Beaches,” explains Andrew.
“Again, it was something we started because we cared about mental health. We wanted to run group classes and give people who were socially isolated, or have stigma attached to their condition, a safe space to exercise.”
In April, the group launched the Rebound Academy, teaching other health practitioners about the NDIS space.
“We’re doing seminars and roadshows and educating people in our profession. The NDIS has given us the opportunity to help more people. Now, I want to share that knowledge with others. A lot of health practitioners put it in the ‘too hard’ basket. It can be challenging, but it’s really rewarding work and I want to help others take that path.” While Andrew takes a brief moment to appreciate his new sunlit space in Brookvale, the most important thing remains, his team and the fact that they are changing lives.
“There is increasing isolation within our community,” he notes. “We have created a space here in Brookvale that’s very welcoming and feels like home. But it’s not about the size or how we big we get. It’s all about the number of people we can help.”
