GOOD UNIVERSITY GUIDE 2019 UNIVERSITY OF THE YEAR FOR STUDENT EXPERIENCE

Awarded Gold for outstanding teaching and learning 2017.

A global outlook Opportunities to travel and/or work in the UK and overseas are a real benefit of choosing Coventry Business School. You can expect unforgettable life experiences, and start to stand out from the crowd of other graduates. Globally connected All of our Business School courses incorporate field trips, either in the UK or overseas, some course-based and some cross-faculty. As a student, you will have the opportunity to go on a field trip each year to allow you to put the theories you have learnt into practice, to network with students from different cultures and to broaden your knowledge of global business. Some trips are free of charge, while others are subsidised. Field trips are generally accessible to all students but, if overseas, they will be subject to obtaining a visa. If a visa cannot be obtained, alternative trips are available. Previous field trips have included attending International Tax Week in the Netherlands where students developed their global business skills, increasing their knowledge of International Taxation, which should help to strengthen their employability. The school has recently visited a partner in Malaysia and future new trips are also being planned for North America. Students have also had the chance to learn about Chinese culture on an exchange programme to Hangzhou, designed to develop students’ knowledge of different working cultures.

Global Leaders Programme (GLP) This exciting, members-only programme develops industry leaders of the future. Expand your global skills in our specialist workshops, experience new cultures and different countries, and meet global leaders at networking events from the likes of Google, Microsoft and Facebook. This programme is optional and involves an additional fee. For further information, please visit www.coventry.ac.uk/globalready Placement/study abroad We know what a big difference work and/or international experience can make to your career prospects. Previous students have secured and successfully completed work placements with prestigious companies, such as Grant Thornton and Volvo, which can help them stand out in the employment market. All our undergraduate courses give you the opportunity to undertake an optional additional year gaining experience on a work placement, in the UK or abroad, or studying overseas. Students do compete for placements but many are placed through our Employability Placement Unit and there is a lot of support to improve their chance of success. More details on placement support can be found in the Business Futures section on page 6.

Student profile Two weeks in Malaysia in my final year was a tremendous experience which consisted of company visits and travelling around Malaysia. We also visited a handful of companies ranging from a leading Asian accounting firm to companies that trade daily. Not only have I had the chance to partake in trips organised by the Business School, but I have been able to organise trips myself for students at the University! For example, I organised a trip to Amsterdam, to see the oldest stock exchange in the world. The international experiences offered to me have given me the confidence to excel when out in the employment market. Lucia Harrison BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance

UCAS code: L112 www.coventry.ac.uk/ug/L112 3 years full-time or 4 years sandwich (study abroad/work placement) Overview Economic forces are at play in almost every aspect of modern society, from the taxes we pay and the price of anything we buy to the stability of our government and the demand for products and services.
