Teaching excellence We know the difference good teaching can make to your time at university. A great experience can make you happier, help you to learn more and give you that edge when it comes to developing your career. We’re proud of our teaching achievements; including being awarded Gold in the Teaching and Excellence Framework (TEF), the government’s first major assessment of teaching quality in universities. We’ve been awarded 5 stars for our teaching excellence (QS stars 2018) and we’re the best university in the UK for film production and photography according to the Guardian University Guide 2019. Collaborative approach Our award-winning staff team are passionate about Media and Performing Arts and many of our lectures are active practitioners; exhibiting, performing, and curating across the country. We also collaborate with institutions across the globe. Our Telepresence in Theatre project saw our team work with contemporaries from Tampere University in Finland to create a unique ‘immersive space’ to explore Shakespeare’s plays. This space, created in both locations using cutting-edge

videoconferencing technology, life sized rear projection, and directional sound gave our students the illusion of occupying the same rehearsal room. We have distinguished artists and industry professionals visiting as guest lecturers. Recently Tony Iommi (guitarist from the band Black Sabbath), Motionhouse and award winning photographer John Blakemore have all hosted master classes. Research Coventry University plays a central role in ensuring the creative industries’ success and future prosperity. Our Media and Performing Arts research looks at how digital environments can be used to create new opportunities for cultural institutions to share their content with the world. Our specialists in dance are using cutting-edge motion capture technologies to document and learn more about European dance heritage. These are just a few examples of how our creative minds are helping to support a sector steeped in culture and heritage.

Top-up courses

Course information Media BA (Hons) UCAS code: P3TU www.coventry.ac.uk/ug/P3TU

Why study a top-up course at Coventry University? Top-up courses give you a way to ‘top-up’ an existing qualification to gain an undergraduate degree. If you’ve successfully completed a Higher National Diploma (HND) or Foundation Degree and want to study further, you could progress onto the final year of an Honours degree programme with a top-up degree. A HND or a Foundation Degree is an excellent qualification in itself, but you may have career ambitions that could be fulfilled with an Honours degree. It typically takes one further year of study to top-up your HND or Foundation Degree. This exciting Media top-up degree develops your skills within photography, television, film and visual communications in a professional environment enabling you to produce an innovative portfolio of work that can give you the edge in an increasingly competitive graduate market. Possible careers for graduates Many of our graduates pursue careers in established roles such as camera operators and editors in the media industries or become freelance media producers. Others undertake the appropriate qualifications to become teachers in schools and colleges, and others go on to work with community arts organisations or as arts administrators.
