Study option: 3 years full-time

Overview

This course aims to prepare you for the challenges that come with providing emergency and urgent care to an ageing and diverse population in pre-hospital and out-of-hospital environments. Often first on scene, paramedics perform a range of treatments and some surgical techniques, as well as offering information and support.

Successful completion of this course will enable you to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a qualified paramedic. Around half of the course is spent creating a sound academic knowledge base which you will use in practise. You’ll be shown required communication and professionalism skills, while developing sound anatomy, pathophysiology and pharmacology understanding.

You will undertake a compulsory practice placement where you will treat real patients and work alongside registered paramedics and healthcare professionals. Facilities for teaching include a mock ambulance, operating theatre, hospital wards, critical care settings, and other real-life environments relevant to practice.
