Preparing you for the real world Our courses provide real-life experience through industry engagement, work experience and ‘live’ projects, for example, working with industry to understand how psychometric testing is applied. We also encourage work on real-world case studies and practical simulation, such as looking at how organisational change affects different organisations and sectors. Guest speakers visit on a regular basis and come from many different sectors including the voluntary sector, prison service, police or individuals with experience of accessing clinical services. Many are practicing psychologists, organisational psychologists, trainers and business coaches, management consultants and researchers. Our guest lecturers cover a range of contemporary topics including returning to the workplace after cancer, occupational health in action and stress management theory and practice.

Research inspired Our postgraduate teaching is heavily influenced by our research, with research-active academics teaching across the Faculty on a regular basis. This means that you will have access to the most up-to-date thinking in psychological, social and behavioural science disciplines. You may also have the chance to collaborate with staff on research projects, for example, some of our students have been involved in cortisol testing projects, looking at stress responses in different populations and others working in the public sector on projects with organisations including West Midlands Fire Service. Professionally accredited Many of our courses are formally recognised by accrediting bodies including the British Psychological Society (BPS), the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), The British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and The Association for Business Psychology. You will develop an in-depth knowledge base and set of skills, which combined with a broad range of experiential teaching, will equip you to pursue careers allied to mindfulness. You will explore the various contexts in which mindfulness can be utilised, including health, education, sport, business and parenting.

• Our experiential approach to learning will help to equip you with the core knowledge and skills necessary for effective professional or personal practice. • Guest speakers include a range of specialists’ teaching mindfulness in their areas of interest, such as healthcare, education, sport and workplace/business.

We will introduce a range of meditation practices, exploring the theories and rationale behind them. We also aim to develop a good understanding of research methods, analysing relevant empirical research which evidences the mental and physical outcomes of mindfulness. Reflecting on your practice is an important aspect of this course, enabling you to evaluate your practice and improve aspects of your work. You will be supported to develop your own teaching style, not simply learning to deliver mindfulness courses without context. The application of mindfulness will be underpinned by an understanding of the origins of mindfulness, Buddhist philosophy, yoga, bodywork and compassion, alongside the impact of mindfulness on the brain.
