Certified Personal Trainer, Fitness Nutrition Specialist and past Miss Rodeo Nevada, Lauren Neil takes a minute to tell us about her daily regimen of nutrition and fitness Inside Interview with Lauren Neil... CIS: When did you get serious about fitness? Lauren: I have always been an athlete and played all different sports, but when I turned 19 I had to have my left hip reconstructed. I couldn’t walk for three months and lost all of my conditioning. My muscles were very unbalanced and I decided to start lifting weights seriously to get the symmetry back in my body. I

fell in love with weightlifting and haven’t stopped since! CIS: Have you always lived a healthy lifestyle? L.N.: Growing up, my parents were conscious of healthy eating, but not strict. When my mom was diagnosed with cancer when I was 12, our whole kitchen and what was in it got a makeover. I learned so much about eating healthy from my mom and it sparked an interest for me to pursue it in school.

L.N.: I eat 6 small meals per day. I have 4 main meals that consist of a complex carbohydrate (like oatmeal, brown rice or quinoa), a healthy and lean protein, and a good fat like avocado, nuts or seeds. I also have a pre and post workout meal that doesn’t include fat so those nutrients are used more efficiently for my workouts and building muscle.

CIS: Is horseback riding a big part of your fitness?

L.N.: Absolutely! Just like I train for my body to be in great condition to prevent injury and be at the top of my game, I feel that is only fair for my horses too. I wouldn’t go out and enter a competition without proper training, so I don’t expect my horses to either. Carb CyclingStrategy One of the bigggest diet options is Carb Cycling. We have found one of the best ways to quickly lose weight and keep it off is through carb cycling. You get great results and there is no starvation required.

W

hat is the best way to lose weight? We have tested many over the years and have found that carb cycling is one of the best ways to lose weight. What is carb cycling you might ask? Well, it’s going a few days a week high carb and then a couple days a week low carb and then taking a rest day. There are many books on this topic including the new book by Chris and Heidi Powell, Extreme Transformation.

High Carb Days

High carb days should be on your hardest training days. Eat the most carbs in the morning and then lesser through the day. Keep in mind the thought of eating like a king in the morning, prince in the afternoon and pauper in the evening. Another great tip is do not eat after 7pm each night. This gives your body time to burn what you have eaten throughout the day and gives you a rest.

Low Carb Days On low carb days, you may not have the energy to engage in a lot of exercise. During the low carb days, make sure to eat more protein. This is where eggs or egg whites come into the plan. Scrambled eggs and egg whites in the morning or a boiled egg as a snack during the day give you a lot of protein with not a lot of carbs. Also a great low carb shake are the IdealShakes from IdealShape. You can read more about the products they offer by going to our facebook page at www.facebook.com/cowgirlfit

High Carb Ideas Some great complex carb ideas are Baked Potatoes, Yams, Sweet Potatoes, Brown Rice, Oatmeal, Cream Of Wheat and Grits

Low Carb Ideas Some great low carb, high protein ideas are eggs, vegetables and chicken. The breadless sandwhich to the left is an excellent option for a healthy low carb sandwich.

Snack Ideas

One of our favorite snacks is a good ol’ protein shake. We love IdealShape shakes. All of them are yummy. Try using vanilla with a mix of frozen berries to give it a pop!

Live Your

Best Life Whether you are trying to start a successful new business or a New Year, there are a few points to remember. You can make 2017 whatever you want it to be. Remember, “Some People sleep through life; others wake up to their dreams.

3 Simple Steps in living your best life for 2017

1

Live each day as a fresh new start...

Each day is a new beginning! If you didn’t have the greatest day yesterday, remember that today is a new day. With business, your fitness or your family, each new day brings a new clean slate. Wake up with a plan each morning to make that day just little bit better than the day you had before. Sometimes we get too engrossed in a bad day that we have had previously. Forget that! We all make mistakes, wrong decisions and more. Learn from your mistakes and start again fresh and anew.

3

Make fitness a part of your day each and everyday...

Nothing is more important than your health. If you don’t have your health, you don’t have much. If you are in good health, both mentally and physically, it will enable you to have positivity in your day and the mindset and physical capabilities to reaching your daily goals Set up a time in your day to make room for fitness. One fitness option is walking. Walking not only keeps you healthy, it also helps you mentally. Take this time to plan out your goals, strategies and or any decisions that must be made. Another relaxing workout is yoga. Yoga has a way of helping you meditate and is a slower process of stretching. Also, horseback riding is the best way to get a positive mental attitude. Let the fresh hair, smell of a sweaty horse and power of horse and rider get you on the level that you need to be. Whatever you choose, make sure you do some type of fitness each day.

2

Document your goals in either a journal, vision board or both...

Writing in a journal each day is a great way to finish out your day and make plans for the next. Write both the positive and the negative of your day. Include what went well and what you need to work on. A vision board is a great tool if any of you are wanting to start a business or have a business but need to improve it. When you can see your goals in front of you, it will help you visualize success. For more information on vision boards, we will be starting a course on in our Facebook group.

Connecting with Your Horse Learn why the horse and owner relationship is so important

By: Moses Wright

W

hether you just purchased a new horse or you have a horse who is a bit skiddish, there are some tips that you can use to better connect with your horse. The No. 1 way to establish a close relationship with a horse is to spend time with him in a manner that reinforces you as his leader. It doesn’t matter what you are doing, just that you are there and interacting with him in a way that makes him feel secure.

Tendae est expe

Trust is Key This article reveal that it’s always easier to ride a horse when both you and the animal trust each other. You can ride a horse that is uneasy around you, but it’s much easier when you are both comfortable and steady around the other.

Bonding with a Horse who has been Abused

If you have a horse that has been abused, it can be nearly impossible to gain the horses trust. You shouldn’t give up hope, however. Plenty of horses have come back around after hours and hours of patience and love. A good way to start with a horse that has been abused is to spend hours talking and sitting with him. Speak in a mellow and steady tone and carry treats with you. Do not attempt to ride the horse or force him to do things he is unwilling to try. It could take days before he is afraid at the very sight of you. Once he doesn’t seem to mind your company, you can try to approach him. A frightened horse is a very dangerous animal, so be sure that you do not corner him. Offer him a treat and try to stroke his muzzle. If he eats the treat from your hands, you are making great strides! If you can touch your horse and he lets you pat him, you are nearly there. Do not attempt to get on a horse that has been mistreated previously without the supervision of professional trainers who are skilled with dealing with such horses. You do not want to get on the back of a horse who will trust you on the groundArticle Search, but utterly lose faith once you are on his back.
