Minky Couture

We had the pleasure of experiencing Minky Couture blankets, which we consider to be the finest blankets we have ever owned. Their unparalleled softness, combined with a stunning array of colors and styles, truly sets them apart.

Minky Couture offers a variety of blanket types to choose from, with my personal favorite being the “Hugs” blanket. Crafted from a unique minky fabric that stretches, this blanket provides a comforting embrace reminiscent of a hug. It is the perfect companion for cozy movie nights or moments when one seeks solace. In addition to their comforting feel, the Hugs blankets feature a delightful bubbly texture that enhances their decorative appeal.

The ultra plush blankets from Minky Couture are designed with longer cut minky threads, resulting in an exceptionally fluffy sensation. They are not only incredibly soft but also remarkably comfortable, available in a wide range of colors and styles. I particularly love their buffalo check design, which I own in both pink and brown—both are exquisite. However, the blanket that I found to be exceptionally lush and irresistibly comfortable is the Ultra Sorbet Spring Blossom Blanket. I opted for the “Monster” size, which is both large and luxurious, providing a weighted sensation that is ideal for those who enjoy the comfort of weighted blankets.

Minky blankets are available in four sizes:

- The Travel size at 36”x60”, perfect for outings, movie nights, or a trip to the rodeo.

- The Adult size at 50”x60”, slightly larger than the Travel size, ideal for cuddling anywhere.

- The Monster size at 60”x72”, perfect for snuggling with a loved one.

- The Grande size at 60”x84”, a substantial blanket suitable for use on queen and king beds, accommodating you and another person comfortably.

Beddy’s

Beddy’s has become my favorite bedding choice. After using it for over a year, I can’t imagine returning to traditional bedding. The ease of making my bed is remarkable. The zip-around sheets not only offer convenience but also ensure they remain securely in place during the night.

A convenient, new feature is the zip base sheets! This innovation allows you to zip out and wash just the lower sheet without needing to clean the entire set, which is especially beneficial for parents dealing with small children and unexpected accidents.

A new blanket in their product line is the ‘On-The-Go Blankets.’ The Beddy’s travel blanket is designed to provide comfort and style anywhere. Its innovative dual-sided design combines softness, warmth, and breathability. You can enjoy the ultra-plush minky side on cold winter nights or switch to the lighter side for a more breathable experience. This versatile travel blanket, available in four unique designs, is the ideal accessory for your car, office, or travel bag.

The On-the-Go Blanket also includes a practical storage case that is water-resistant and easy to clean. The storage bag features a shoulder strap and a handle loop, allowing you to attach it to your luggage for convenient transport, making it the perfect travel companion for your adventures.

I cannot recommend this bedding highly enough! Additionally, the aesthetic appeal is stunning. They offer a “minky” sheet option that provides a luxuriously soft and warm experience for winter evenings, and their cotton sheets that are perfect for any season. The variety of colors and styles is truly beautiful. Whether you are looking for new bedding for you and your family, conveninet travel blankets, or accessories, Beddy’s has it all!

Selecting The Right Blanket

WHEN

IT COMES TO KEEPING YOUR HORSE COMFORTABLE, CHOOSING THE RIGHT HORSE BLANKET MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE

Horse blankets can protect your equine friend from harsh weather, keep them warm, and even prevent injuries. But how do you know which one is right for you? Let’s explore the key factors to consider when selecting the perfect horse blanket.

1. Material Quality

The material of the horse blanket is one of the most important factors. Synthetic materials like polyester or nylon are common. They are waterproof and durable, making them ideal for various weather conditions.

Also, look for horse blankets made with breathable materials. Breathability helps prevent overheating and keeps your horse comfortable.

2. Weight Options

Horse blankets come in different weights. Lightweight blankets are best for mild climates, while heavy blankets are essential for cold winter months.

3.

Fit and Size

To provide comfort, a horse blanket must fit properly. Blankets are available in various sizes. If you choose one that’s too small, it might restrict your horse’s movement,

while one that’s too large might slip off. To find the right size, measure your horse from the center of their chest to the center of their tail. Most companies provide sizing charts to help you choose correctly.

4. Waterproofing

If you live in a rainy area, waterproofing is crucial. A good horse blanket will have a waterproof outer layer to keep your horse dry.

*According to the United States Horse Council, over 60% of horse owners recommend waterproof blankets for protection against unpredictable weather.

5. Breathability With Waterproofing

While waterproofing is important, look for a blanket that is also breathable. This will help keep sweat and moisture away from your horse’s skin. Blankets that trap moisture can lead to discomfort or skin issues. A waterproof yet breathable blanket is the best option.

6. Fastening Systems

The way a horse blanket fastens is equally important. Look for blankets with adjustable buckles or Velcro straps. These allow you to customize the fit.

Some blankets also feature shoulder pleats or gussets. These additions give your horse more freedom of movement and reduce the chances of rubbing.

7. Insulation

Insulated blankets can help retain warmth. Many heavy blankets come with additional insulation, like fill layers made from synthetic materials or down.

When selecting insulation, remember that not all horses require heavy-duty warmth. Individual needs depend on each horse’s coat and the climate.

8. Durability

Considering the longevity of the horse blanket is smart. Find one made with high-quality stitching and materials that can withstand daily wear and tear.

A durable blanket will last longer and prove to

be more economical in the long run.

9. Care and Maintenance

To keep your horse blanket in good condition, check the care instructions. Some blankets are machine washable, while others might require special cleaning.

10. Budget

Before you start shopping, determine your budget. Horse blankets come in a wide range of prices. While it might be tempting to go for cheaper options, remember that investing in quality can provide better protection and comfort for your horse.

*Remember, the right horse blanket can significantly improve your horse’s comfort and health. Always think about the unique needs of your horse when making your selection.

YELLOWSTONE Season 5 Part 2

THE LONG AWAITED SECOND HALF SEASON 5, YELLOWSTONE SERIES WILL PREMIERE

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10TH ON PARAMOUNT NETWORK AT 8PM ET/PT

The Dutton family has amassed numerous adversaries throughout five seasons. Various overreaching governmental entities and scheming hedge funds have attempted, unsuccessfully, to seize control of the family ranch. In the most recent cliffhanger, it appears that the Duttons may also be turning against one another. However, when season 5 resumes, cord-cutters will join the ranks of the family’s enemies. The remaining episodes will exclusively air on the Paramount Network, and it is unlikely that they will be available for streaming anytime soon.

Season 5 is back on the Paramount Network on Sunday, November 10, at 8:00 p.m. ET. CBS also plans to broadcast a “special airing” of the new episode later that night, at 10:00 p.m. ET. Unless you can record shows with your cable subscription, those two airings are the only way to watch Yellowstone’s return.

Yellowstone is co-created by Oscar®-nominated screenwriter Taylor Sheridan (Wind River, Hell or High Water and Sicario) and John Linson. Executive producers include John Linson, Art Linson, Taylor Sheridan, Kevin Costner, David C. Glasser, Bob Yari, Stephen Kay, Michael Friedman, Christina Voros and Keith Cox. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

Shea Fisher Durfey

FROM RODEOS TO RECORDING STUDIOS AND ALL THE ADVENTURES IN BETWEEN...

WE CHAT WITH SHEA AS SHE SHARES HER THOUGHTS

ON HER MUSIC, CAREER, AND FAMILY LIFE

Cowgirls In Style Magazine: Tell us a bit about your upbringing and where you grew up?

Shea Fisher Durfey: I was raised in Australia within a family deeply involved in rodeo. Both of my parents are esteemed Australian champion rodeo athletes. During my teenage years, I achieved several titles in Barrel Racing and Breakaway events. Notably, I became the first female to qualify for the Australian National Finals Rodeo in the Junior Bull Riding category. My broth-

er chose not to pursue bull riding, prompting me to carry on my father’s legacy. From the age of thirteen, I expressed a strong passion for music, often pleading with my parents to allow me to perform the national anthem at rodeos. By the time I turned sixteen, I secured a recording contract and embarked on a journey to pursue my passion for singing. Coming from a non-musical family, this new venture was a significant change for both me and my family. I had to mature rapidly within the music industry, touring across (cont’d)

Australia, managing my own tour bus, and overseeing my own team and band, who depended on me for their livelihoods. I was blessed to achieve six #1 hits in the Australian country music scene over the subsequent years. In 2009, just prior to my twenty-first birthday, I relocated to the United States and secured a record deal. I resided in Nashville for several years and released a single to radio; however, my record label unfortunately ceased operations during the release period. Consequently, I chose to explore the opportunities that Texas might offer. Although I contemplated returning to Australia, I ultimately felt that it was not the path God had intended for me.

CIS: Tell us about your family and how you met Tyson?

SFD: I met Tyson at the Houston Rodeo, where I was also introduced to my close friends, Shada and Trevor Brazil. Following the closure of my record label, I spent some time with them. Tyson and I developed a strong friendship prior to entering into a romantic relationship, which I believe is an ideal foundation for any partnership. In 2013, we were married and I began traveling the rodeo circuit to support Tyson in his pursuit of his dreams. During this period, I concentrated on expanding our business, Shea Michelle Buckles, as I was frequently on the road with Tyson, engaging with rodeo committees and connecting with customers. Our business evolved from barely covering my rent in Nashville to generating significantly more income than that of a professional rodeo athlete. It was a fun experience to grow the buckle business while simultaneously supporting Tyson on the circuit.

The year 2016 marked a significant milestone for us. We welcomed our first daughter, Praise, and Tyson achieved the World Title in Tie Down Roping. I continued to accompany Tyson on the rodeo circuit, during which I conceived the idea of launching a children’s line of western boots. I noticed a lack of cute boots available for our daughter, prompting me to establish my own company. It took approximately a year to identify a suitable factory and perfect the samples to my satisfaction. During this time, I also acquired a young barrel racing horse, which I took along on the road with Tyson, practicing in various arenas before and after the rodeos. By 2018, I was able to participate in more rodeos and earned the title of runner-up as the WPRA Rookie Barrel Racer. I harbored aspirations of competing in the NFR Barrel Racing, a dream I had since childhood. With my singing career having stalled, I envisioned a new path focused on rodeo competition.

However, 2019, I became pregnant with our second daughter, Risyn, and recognized that my ability to compete at the same level would be limited.

Due to having two kiddos running around. I dedicated my additional time and energy to the development of Shea Michelle Buckles and Shea Baby Boots. Recognizing that I could not effectively balance the responsibilities of caring for horses, children, my business, and fulfilling my role as a rodeo wife, I made the difficult choice to sell my good rodeo mare, Betty. I used the profits I made

Credit: Shea Michelle Buckles
Credit: Shea Baby Boots

from her to expand the clothing division of Shea Baby.

CIS: How did you grow Shea Baby so fast?

SFD: I envisioned Shea Baby as an online retail store, but divine intervention led me down a different path. I vividly recall receiving a call from a friend who was representing my company, informing me that Cavenders was interested in featuring Shea Baby Clothing in all their locations. At that time, I had only ten shirt styles available for them. I was astounded that such a prominent retailer wanted to give Shea Baby a chance. Lacking a large warehouse to accommodate the inventory, we converted our garage into a makeshift storage space for three months to fulfill Cavenders orders, which totaled approximately 10,000 clothing items. The following months were incredibly busy, prompting me to enlist several friends to assist with these initial orders. Subsequently, it felt as though numerous opportunities opened up for me. My second retailer was BUC-EES. I quickly learned not to impose limitations on what God can achieve if it aligns with His will. Today, Shea Baby is available in over 800 stores across the United States. My heart is happy each time I attend a rodeo and see children wearing Shea Baby apparel. I am thankful for this success and am grateful for the opportunity to involve our daughters in the design process, seeking their input on various styles. In 2021, we welcomed our third child, Tyen Cross Durfey. This year was particularly hectic as Tyson was trying to qualify for the NFR while managing two businesses and caring for our three young children. We were balancing numerous responsibilities. In 2022, Tyson made the decision to lessen his rodeo commitments and spend more time at home with his family. This was a challenging choice for him, but he had always aspired to retire while he was still winning, and he felt it was the right moment. Tyson’s retirement marked a significant transition for our family, as we had been accustomed to the rodeo lifestyle, spending over 200 days a year on the road and attending the NFR annually. Adjusting to weekends without rodeos felt a little boring. I remember expressing to Tyson how dull the weekends had become without the excitement of rodeo events. In truth, I believe Tyson’s retirement was more challenging for me than for him; he was prepared for this change, while I was still adapting. I think to be completely transparent, after leaving Nashville and the music scene, I almost lost my identity I had embraced since the age of 16 as a singer. This transition proved to be quite challenging, as I had to leave behind a profound

passion for music. However, I managed to embrace the role of Tyson’s wife and support system, which brought its own joys. I experienced many great evenings cheering for him at the NFR and creating countless cherished memories. Yet, when he retired, I faced the loss of my second identity as a Rodeo Cowboy’s wife. This period was difficult for me, as I felt I had relinquished my own identity, becoming solely focused on the roles of mother, businesswoman, and rodeo cowboy wife. While I wholeheartedly embraced these roles, which I cherished and performed to the best of my ability, the demands of family life sometimes led me to lose sight of who I truly was.

CIS: Why did you decide to get back into the music scene and tell us more about your fitness pursuits?

SFD: During a three-year period, I prioritized my responsibilities over my personal goals and passions. I recognized that my primary role during that time was to nurture our three wonderful children and to provide support to Tyson as

Tyson, Shea and family

he transitioned into retirement. At times, I found myself grappling with the realization that there remains much for me to accomplish as guided by the Lord. It was as if one day I awoke to the understanding that by not pursuing my dreams and aspirations, I was inadvertently letting down those who matter most—our children and Tyson. It is important to me that our children perceive their mother as a resilient leader, someone who refuses to surrender simply because a Nashville record label has closed its doors or because I am no longer in my twenties. Why should we confine ourselves and allow the opinions of others to dictate our future? I began to feel a renewed passion for music igniting within me. However, I recognized that I first needed to reclaim my sense of self, which I pursued through fitness. I committed to exercising five days a week, drawing on my experience as a personal trainer in my youth to regain my pre-baby body. After six months of diligent effort, it became clear to me that the process should not be this hard, prompting me to develop a program and nutrition plan accessible to women of all sizes and ages, yielding tangible results. I tested this approach with several friends, and the outcomes were remarkable. As a result, many women began inquiring about my methods, leading me to establish an online workout group. Hearing the success stories from other women has brought me so much joy, knowing that I am aiding

them in restoring their confidence. This experience has been profoundly fulfilling. I also revisited old songs I had penned years ago, realizing their relevance today and lamenting their neglect. One day, our eldest daughter expressed her desire to accompany me to Nashville to witness my recording process. I recall the disappointment on her face when I informed her that I no longer engaged in that pursuit. In that moment, I resolved to return to recording and to take her with me to Nashville, allowing her to witness what her mother once did. It was this six-year-old’s encouragement that inspired my decision to re-enter the music scene. I am genuinely excited about the three songs I plan to release in the next twelve months.

“WHY SHOULD WE CONFINE OURSELVES AND ALLOW THE OPINIONS OF OTHERS TO DICTATE OUR FUTURE?

-Shea Fisher Durfey

I collaborated on one song with a woman from Garth Brooks’ team, and the second song was cowritten with Walker Hayes, who is not only an exceptional artist but also a dear friend. Walker and I were friends during a time when few in Nashville recognized the potential of his music. It is remarkable how swiftly circumstances can shift when one is focused in proving others wrong, and that truly embodies Walker’s journey. The final song I intend to release was written over ten years ago with two emerging songwriters in Nashville, both of whom have since achieved significant success with numerous number one hits. It brings me great joy to witness my friends from the past realizing their dreams and achieving success. In October of this year, my music video director from Australia traveled to Texas, where we filmed three new music videos. I believed that having the songs recorded and the music videos prepared would eliminate any possibility of turning back. Shea Fisher is officially re-entering the music industry, and I am eager to share some of the songs I have been holding onto for the past decade.

CIS: What is Tyson currently doing these days?

SFD: Honestly Tyson is happier now than I have seen him for a long time. He is doing really great in the real estate industry, focusing on the development of small horse ranch-style properties ranging from 8 to 10 acres, which he then sells to interested buyers. His understanding of the specific requirements for small horse properties enables him to create exceptional offerings. Additionally, he continues to run his mentorship program, so he remains very busy.

CIS: What would you like to accomplish in the near future?

SFD: I truly believe in pursuing the things that bring me joy and demonstrating to my family and loved ones that age is just a number when it comes to chasing goals and dreams. Over the next year, I’ll be releasing three new songs to radio and streaming platforms, both in Australia and here in the U.S., so you can expect to hear a lot more from me musically. Last year, I also purchased a wonderful Barrel

Racing horse and aimed to rank in the top 30 in the world this year to qualify for some major winter rodeos. Unfortunately, he got injured in May just as we were starting to hit our stride together,

Shooting Shea’s music video
Tyson with Tyen

and he had to rest in the stall this summer. However, reflecting on it now, I realize that if I had been out rodeoing, I might not have had the chance to reconnect with my music. I truly believe that everything happens in its own time. I’m looking forward to him being fully healed and ready to tackle the 2025 Rodeo season.

CIS: What’s one piece of advice you would give other women or girls?

SFD: Don’t be afraid to dream! Whether you’re a mom, cheering on your partner in his ambitions, or feeling like age is holding you back—remember, age is merely a number. Even if you’re just 16 and think you’re too young, this message is for you as well. The worst that can happen is you might fail, but living with the uncertainty of “what if” is far worse. Your kids and friends admire you and see you working hard to be your best self. So go out there and shine!

COWGIRL TUFF

CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF COWGIRL TUFF COMPANY

We want to congratulate western wear company, Cowgirl Tuff on their 25th anniversary. Lisa Bollin, founder and CEO of Cowgirl Tuff, reflects on her childhood experiences with the family pony, “Tony,” which played a huge role in her company, Cowgirl Tuff. Despite being thrown off multiple times, her determination to get back on instilled a sense of resilience within her. This resilience has become the cornerstone of her ‘Never Give Up’ philosophy, which has played a crucial role in the success of Cowgirl Tuff Company over the last 25 years.

The best-selling jean in their history is “Don’t Fence Me In.” This particular style was instrumental in their expansion from 500 to 1,800 stores in 2009. It marked the inception of the Unbelievable Fit, which resonated with women who appreciated their offering of 60 custom sizes. As an average-sized woman, Lisa recognized the necessity for a well-fitting jean that also provided sufficient length for riding. It was particularly frustrating to find that many jean manufacturers did not offer longer lengths. Additionally, she opted for a higher back rise, as the low-rise trend at that time was not particularly flattering for riding. “I committed to using only premium denim, which was relatively uncommon at that time, as I preferred to provide high-quality products that are durable and long-lasting. I believed I understood my customer well, as I was one of them. My daily lifestyle informed my design choices, and many of my ideas stemmed from personal frustrations, including the development of my winter line featuring fleece and flannel-lined pants and jeans. Residing in the harsh winters of Minnesota, I found a lack of comfortable, warm clothing options that were not overly bulky. Our initial offering of microfiber fleece-lined pants, aptly named “Work Hard Play Hard,” was exceptionally well-received, leaving my customers very satisfied. They were warm, comfortable, and flattering. Our winter line has since expanded to over 30 items, all of which have garnered numerous 5-star reviews.”

In 2018, Lisa began incorporating cellphone pockets into many of the jeans to enhance convenience and safety, particularly for those who find themselves alone on trails or during colt training. This feature has proven to be a lifesaver for many individuals.

“How have I managed to persevere for this long? The answer lies in my slogan. Despite facing challenges such as being bucked, kicked, bitten, and stomped, I firmly believe in the mantra: Never Give Up! Encountering this phrase daily serves as a motivating force, helping me navigate the fluctuations of running a business. My dedicated team and I are committed to continuing the development of innovative apparel for our supporters who seek products that enhance their lifestyle. I take great pleasure in reading reviews and hearing how much our customers appreciate our products, as well as how our clothing makes them feel. This feedback brings me the greatest sense of fulfillment. I often find myself in disbelief when I see individuals at the airport wearing our distinctive barbwire back pocket design.”

CIS Q’s & A’s

Cowgirls In Style Magazine: Where are you from?

Emma Cameron: I’m originally from Santa Fe, New Mexico, a place that deeply shaped my love for horses and rodeo. Growing up in New Mexico, I was fortunate to have amazing people around me who have been instrumental in my journey to becoming Miss Rodeo America.

CIS: How many horses do you have and have you ridden horses all of your life?

E.C: I currently have 5 horses, and I’ve been around them my entire life. I started going to junior rodeos when I was 4 years old, and that passion only grew stronger over the years. Horses have always been a huge part of my identity, both in and out of the arena.

CIS: What are your hobbies and interests outside of rodeo?

E.C: Outside of rodeo, I love spending time riding at home and with my family. I’m also passionate about my career in agriculture finance, which ties into my love for horses. When I am a typical day involves and getting some work done on my computer and getting all of our horses worked at the house or at a friend’s house nearby. I re ally enjoy riding with the same trainer I have had my whole life when both of our schedules allow these days!

CIS: How old were you when you entered your first rodeo pageant?

E.C.: I was 9 when I entered my first rodeo pageant, and it was a pivotal experience that set me on the path to where I am today. Since then I have held nine different titles including Miss New Mexico High School Rodeo, Miss National High School Rodeo, and a Miss Rodeo New Mexico.

CIS: What is the hardest part of the competition?

E.C: For me, the hardest part of the competition was making sure I was equally prepared in each category. The points are pretty evenly distributed between each category in which we are judged, so I had to make sure I really worked on my weaknesses and leaned in to my strengths in order to feel like I left it all on the table.

CIS: What has been the hardest part of being Miss Rodeo America?

E.C: The most challenging aspect of being Miss Rodeo America has been truly taking advantage of every moment throughout the year. It goes by so fast, you blink twice and you’re in Las Vegas preparing for the NFR. I try to remind myself to slow down and take everything in, because this has been one incredible ride. I’ve had so many wonderful experiences meeting people who have welcomed me into their communities and made this year better than I could have imagined .

homes, feed me, lend me their horses, and show me the best parts of where they are from. It’s inspiring to see how kind and selfless the rodeo community is, and having the chance to connect with and represent it has been such an honor.

CIS: You seem to be the type of person who goes with the flow and doesn’t let things bother you. How do you get your strength?

E.C: This year I have really focused on drawing my strength from my faith, my family, and my love for what I do. I am so lucky to have a strong support system that helps me keep things in perspective. They push me when I need it, but also make sure I hold myself accountable to be the best I can, and they play a big role in making me successful.

CIS: What advice would you give girls who are wanting to get involved in rodeo pageantry?

E.C: My biggest piece of advice is to find people you admire and work with them to make yourself who you want to be. It’s important to be able to take constructive criticism to make sure you are the best you can be when the time counts. Be willing to put in the hours and keep in perspective joy and passion that inspired you to pursue your dreams in the beginning.

CIS: What are your plans once your reign is complete?

CIS: What has been the most rewarding this past year?

E.C: The most rewarding part has been meeting people from all across the world who share a love for the western way of life. Everywhere I go, a community welcomes me for their biggest event of the year and volunteers make sure I am taken care of. People who were strangers just days ago welcome me into their

E.C: After this year, I plan to continue working in the agriculture industry and get my horses back in shape so I can go to some circuit rodeos. Even though my time as a rodeo queen is coming to an end, I want to continue giving back to the community that has given me so much through clinics and involvement in the youth programs that raised me. I also plan to return to graduate school thanks to the generous scholarships I received from the Miss Rodeo America Pageant.
